this was just pure chaos.
It’s an invasion. War. If it feels like chaos in LA than the devs did their jobs.
/Agree
War/Invasions are not organized sterile events. The planning of it might be, but the actual reality of it…nope. Loud, chaotic, sometimes terrifying….oh yeah.
The problem is most of the events end so quickly you can’t get there in time to help. All of the escort/rescue events need to ‘wait’ until someone shows up to escort them. Getting around the dark torn up LA takes to long when the events only seem to last a minute or two. I got tired of the ‘save the children’ events which are very long so I tried through one whole invasion to do rescues and spent the entire time running around getting nothing done.
Try coming in from a different door?
I can understand making some of the events a little longer; however, I don’t think they should ‘wait’ until someone is there. Fleeing npcs trying to make it out whether someone is there to help them or not adds to the immersion, at least to me. It makes sense that people are going to try to get the heck out of dodge before they end up killed.
Well if there was a chance the marines where going to show up and escort you would you wait a minute before running for it? Maybe the event could spawn a bit earlier so people have a chance to respond to it rather than waiting around for it, doing nothing?
I could definitely live with a little dialogue before the events, like what happens with the Lighthouse.
“Alright kids, get together, we’re going to get you out of here.”
“Yes sir!”
“Meep, Mott, Mokk, everyone here?”
“Squak!” “Squak!” … “Squak!”
“Keep up you stupid Dolyaks, we’re getting out of here. I’m not leaving any of my wares for looters. If I’m lucky we’ll run over Kiel’s corpse on the way out.”
Then there would be warning that something is going on rather than mobs just appearing and making a break for it.
I too am really enjoying this update. It’s got zergs but not just a single mindless mob swarming a route thru the city. To succeed at the highest level, organization is required. This will come in due time.
I love the backpieces because they aren’t relegated to a single meta achievement reward. They have multiple tiers suitable for all characters. They have avarying appearances. They have selectable stats. You can have many, so it’s alt friendly. I like the look of the basic model with no blades so I’m gonna make an extra.
My problem is I’ll have to make two for the character I ultimately make it for. Possibly 3 if I ever choose to go Ascended. One to upgrade, and one to transmute onto the upgraded one. Since you can’t upgrade them if they’re transmuted. So then I’d need a third to eventually get to Ascended to transmute again. But whatever, it’s not like the parts are hard to get.
I just wish I’d realized the result was just another part, and not a recipe.
I think what we’ve learned from this experience is:
Giving more people the ability to res others does not actually make people res others more often. So yeah, you’re technically still waiting for that one priest/cleric player to come around and help you up because he happens to love helping other people out.
I guess that’s me then? With 1100 healing power and 4 seconds of invuln I can usually get someone up pretty fast.

I was hoping this would be a video of the whole process from blueprint pieces to Ascended.
“Nope, he’d be out here sipping Tea in safety.”
You mean like ALL of the other Council members who aren’t directly in charge of the armed force of the city? Why are you praising Kiel for doing her job but denouncing Gnashblade for doing his?
I don’t believe Evon Gnashblade would, nor SHOULD be in Lion’s Arch fighting. That’s not his job. His job is mercantile. Kiel should be in Lion’s Arch, not doing whatever she was doing to bring in her airship for a last minute “rescue.” Maybe if she had actually been in the city doing what Magnus was doing we could have saved more people and wouldn’t need a flashy escape. Evon, who really shouldn’t have even been there, stayed behind to collect the goods that Kiel would ultimate steal from him anyway.
Yes, he closed the gate on stragglers, but too bad, they had plenty of time to get through and didn’t take it, better they be left behind than Scarlets minions be given free reign to wherever that gate lead.
Evon is not a nice guy. No one with any sense has ever claimed he was. No one with any sense should believe he should be nice. He’s a merchant. He is greedy, manipulative and cut throat. But he owns his actions and himself and doesn’t apologize for it. He also gets things done. All of which is more than I can say for Kiel, who has never done anything constructive her entire career.

It’s likely going to be rebuilt after this is over for no other reason than to give Anet a place to continually recycle the holiday events.
They already said they don’t want to spend time and effort making each year’s holiday vastly different from one another, and having to re-do the events from scratch because LA went away permanently would kind of defeat that mission statement.
Either way, unless Mordremoth popping out of the hole Scarlet’s drilling leads to an explosion so great that it leaves Lion’s Arch a smoking crater, there’s nothing this event has done to the city that can’t easily be rebuilt.
Besides, as someone else said: Temporary content is temporary. We can’t just have a brand new Dynamis-style end-game zone to play around with until the end of time, that’d be forward thinking. The ruins will go away, and LA will return, and we’ll be rebuilding the statue…again.
The events don’t change, but apparently every time they change the face of a zone they don’t keep the old version. So ever Halloween and Wintersday they’re doing it from scratch. If that’s the case, and based on the fact that all the Personal Story instances in LA are occurring in burned down LA I have no reason to disbelieve it, that means they would still have to remake those areas from scratch again. Therefore, if they happen somewhere else it doesn’t matter. They just have to plop the appropriate NPCs where they need to be. It doesn’t have any effect on the events themselves though.

If the zone becomes a gaping hole of molten death where no city could possibly be placed, then what?
Then it’s become a gaping hole of molten death where no city could possibly be placed and you’ve answered your own question but I don’t think that’s likely to happen.
I’ll be disappointed if the Seraph, the Legions and the Wolfborn don’t swing into action to help them retake Lion’s Arch, humans, charr and norn have already suffered at the hands of Scarlet’s minions and I feel they’d be aching for some payback. It doesn’t have to be the Vigil every time.
Just remember, Scarlet is drilling for something. Maybe a giant monster, maybe a ley line. Whatever it is, it is going to be big and full of energy. There is more than enough room for the result of this being such massive devastation that LA is literally wiped from the map forever.
I don’t mind someone ignoring a downed person under those circumstances. I prefer it. My problem is when I’m out away from the major events, but I happen to get over powered and someone wanders by, kills the mobs and starts ressing an NPC instead of ressing me. What is that about?

The idea that the, now united, races of Tyria would simply abandon the city rather than band together to push out the attacks, reclaim Lion’s Arch, and rebuild it through a united effort is not an outcome I’ll believe until I see more than someone vaguely hinting at secret knowledge to get attention.
This, and if it doesn’t happen then the writers don’t really understand Tyria.
If the zone becomes a gaping hole of molten death where no city could possibly be placed, then what?
I’m having the hardest time grabbing the vista near Trader’s Forum for some reason. Trying to finish LA map completion on an ALT while doing the invasion and I just can’t seem to get up there to it.
If it’s the one on the end of the mast that is just a really tedious jump. There is nothing special about it, you don’t have to find some convoluted path to jump down onto it. It’s just not easy to actually get up the rubble at the base of the mast.
Just keep trying and you should get it eventually.
1. Funnel us all into one or two areas — Check Nobody is being funneled. The event occurs in LA. Choose to take part or don’t. -- Funneled. Still funneled. LS content is one area. You ARE being herded. Only if you want to participate, no one is forcing you
2. Create content that fosters zergs — Check (although to get the highest rewards you have to split up, but it is not required and I still see a lot of zerging). The major complaint about Scarlet’s Invasions were that nobody completed it intelligently after a while because higher rewards cam from farming champs rather than winning. Anet responds with an event designed to give higher rewards for winning. Good planning on their part —Maybe if youre not caught in overflow, which is unlikely. It doesn’t matter if you’re in an overflow or not. The people in the overflows are the same people that are trying to get into their individual maps. They just comprise all servers rather than just yours, it doesn’t make them better or worse
3. Create content that only requires auto attack and minimal brain activity — Check That’s your choice how to play. You can autoattack all you want. I’m going to help the whole zone win the event. -- Still no need. Wasting finger energy reaching for the # 3 or 4 key. Everyone can auto attack and we win. Theres no NEED to buff people. Do you really think that is helping? Um, yes, actually. I have to assume the scores of dead players who aren’t waypointing are the ones who think like you and don’t use everything at their disposal in order to complete the events in time.
4. Inject the same monsters into the content — Check Well it makes sense doesn’kitten Scarlet creates a large and varied army of krait, clockwork, aetherblades, nightmare court, dredge, and Flame Legion. That’s 6 factions, each with numerous types of enemies. Of course she’s going to use the army she spent the past year building. —And the same army we have destroyed time and time again. Same monsters, for a year. Nothing new. Boring. Yawn. BTW, how many minons does she have? She must have more monsters and minions in her army than all the orders, lionguard, and GW2 players combined. How do you manage to play any game for an extended period of time if you can’t handle the reuse of mobs? I do agree on her numbers, they are an unruly amount of minions
5. Do not give the player much direction as to where to go when he/she logs in for the first time — Check Read your mail, check the upper-right of your UI. Talk to other players…it is an MMO after all. It’s really not that hard. Read the mail checked the UI. it said to find a camp director. I spent 15 minutes runnaround around Ganderran(where it spawned me) looking for this director. I had to ask in chat where to go, they said just wait for the even to start. Oh..Okay. Wish the ingame mail or UI would have told me “wait for the event”. Ok, you missed a step. The step you missed was to open up your map and look for the yellow star which indicates a story contact. I do agree that there could have been a little more information about the cycle, but I happened to have read the patch update which said every hour.
6. Tell the story abysmally — Check. Truth be told, there’s not much story to tell. What, did you need pages of lore and revelations? This is the culmination of the story…a massive attack on Lion’s Arch. We get a cinematic showing the beginning of the attack and we take part in the evacuation. What else needs to be told? Personal story told a story better than this living story ever did. Id much rather have something similar. Personal Story had all the development time of the game to write. This one had less, but while I don’t necessarily like all the characters nor how they’re doing things, the overall story and how it can be told after the fact works just fine.
So I made a new character a week or so ago, and with the revelation that LA would be destroyed I opted to wait to see how that worked.
Watching the kids playing Destiny’s Edge in front of the destroyed fountain was a little weird. Watching the Vigil troops practicing marksmanship with no practice dummies, or even walls in front of them, with Scarlet’s drill in the background is just straight up freaky.
What other LA specific Personal Story instances just come weird and wrong thanks to the changes? How does the Whisper’s sneaking the girl out LA work, or the meeting of the three Orders to take back Claw Island?
The Captian’s Council is elected
No, it isn’t. The Captain’s Council is appointed by the Council. The election wasn’t to get into the Council, that was just the result. The Election was the show the Zerphyrites who we liked more. The person we liked more would be the one allowed to draft the trade agreement with them, because they seem to think popularity is some kind of judge of character. The person who got the trade agreement would be the one appointed to the Council.
So technically the Captain’s Council are tyrants and dictators without any legitimate backing by the people of the city nor hereditary title.
Actually, I like it. On the surface it seems zergy, but that’s not the most efficient way to win the event The more citizens saved, the better the reward loot. And that requires not a single monster zerg, but rather a number of groups stationed at various locations and succeeding events. Give this patch more than a day and you’ll (hopefully) see fewer zergs and more organization.
Also, I love the back items!
I wish I’d realized that the only recipe was for the Ascended, that each back item has to be made individually from the dropped parts. Then I wouldn’t have sold all my extras.
i think you have unlocked the secret to personal enjoyment in these recent LS updates. i thought i had it when the patch first came out but i lost it rather quickly. how do you personally play when you’re with 100 other people vying for as many loot bags as they can carry? my method yielded great monetary results but as you can see i’m still disappointed. what can i do differently so that if i decide to go into LA again, i can start enjoying myself?
Not sure if this is sarcasm or not, though I have a feeling it is. If it isnt then I apologize. If you want to enjoy the game just go with the “zerg” flow so to speak – pun intended. If you want to play by yourself there is always pornhub. Otherwise dont complain about a multi-player game being multi-player.
Oh I’m certain it’s sarcasm. I hear it in a straight monotone, like an infomercial. “That is amazing… how can I, too, make millions by washing my socks, Bill?”
The correct answer to the question, though, is “Not that.” If the only thing that matters to you is amassing globs of loot to do whatever with, I can’t help you. I’m personally sorry for you that you find so little joy in anything beyond monetary gain, even virtual monetary gain, which is arguably more sad.
If that isn’t the only thing that matters, then how about trying to experience the event for the event and actually immerse yourself into the game. If you don’t know how to do that, I may still not be able to help because it’s just a thing I do, not something I can easily explain.
I don’t get why people are calling this the best update. I’m not really caught up in the suspense of the destruction of LA. Is my heart supposed to be pounding at the sight of the fire and destruction with a big giant drill in sight, while you see children and soldiers walking as slowly as they possibly can to the exit?
For months we’ve been hyped up with the introduction of ‘new’ monsters, slowly learning their mechanics and how to counter them, only to find them all on one map , in large groups where the only real counter is a mass zerg, distributed amongst underwhelming events, with Scarlet spectating.Best update? No bug fixes at all, and tons created. How are people calling this “SUPER EPIC” when you have all of Tyria flocking around playing hide and seek with children and bugged events, disappointing loot, and people that care more about the well being of the moa racers than anything else in LA.
So we’ve gone from Disappointing to Super Epic? I have seen a lot of threads about Disappointing, and I’ve seen a handful of threads saying they enjoy the event, but I haven’t seen any posts, let alone threads claiming this event is “SUPER EPIC.”
It’s a fun event, I’m enjoying myself, but it’s still just another event. It is cool to see a zone so drastically changed but I don’t think many if any are rocked in the boots by this, and I certainly haven’t see anyone claiming to have been, so where exactly is this even coming from? Who is actually saying this?
I have to agree with Kal, if you are just running around spamming auto attack its your own fault that you arent having fun, and is in no way Anet’s fault.
Although Kal if you take out the people of the “many” that r disappointed that are just complaining about stupid crap and not real problems, then no there isnt that many that are disappointed. The actual real problems/bugs are not that many or that big.
Sure, that was just my passive aggressive way of saying, “Why did you bother posting this thread, it’s been done before.”
Your observation fits more in line with the way ANet usually does it.
sorry i wasn’t talking about server lag. i was talking about playing on highest settings and having 800 people around you fire their spells. it’s just unavoidable when you have giant open world content like this. i have to set my graphics to the lowest to avoid crashing and i hate how everything looks.
Still not following. I always have my graphics all the way up and I’ve never had an issue. If the graphics are crashing your computer, or even just the game that’s probably your computer, nothing else.
If you spent any time checking out the forum before posting then you would know the answer to your question is, “Yes, there any many people who are disappointed.”
So yes, there are.
There are also many people who enjoy the differences between this event and the other events that, while mechanically similar in many fundamental ways, were still entirely different experiences.
Some of us don’t mind the zerg. I like running in a crowd of people who are all intent on accomplishing the same basic goals as me, and who I can be reasonably assured will attempted to back me up as I will attempt to back them up. I also really enjoy who the game scales to make things ridiculous when that happens. I find it exciting to start running against mobs that can potentially oneshot me.
I also don’t find it mindless. There are strategies that even the “zerg” must adhere to if they want to survive. If you’re just running in and auto attacking whatever happens to be in front of you at the time it’s no wonder you’re bored and not enjoying yourself.
That’s true, all he’d need to do is drop a bunch of crazy princess dolls and toy golems and they’d take out all of Scarlet’s troops, no problem.
Gratz! You’re now ready to take on those annoying do-gooders of Paragon City!
Lion’s Arch is burning, but who cares when there’s a six-month old election to argue over.
I’m with you 100% on this. I’ve still got 100 plus vote for Evon buttons to run through.
Apparently the PS missions that take place in LA are going to take place in burning down LA. So to accommodate this they just put her house on defense. At least that’s how I interpreted it. It, of course, could also just be that they had the foresight to say, if there is one place in LA that would not be destroyed it’s her place because of that defense system.
… Also the simple fact giant forces are not that easy to suddenly mobilize and relocate. Considering how Scarlet attacked the city and took it within an hour, there was also next to no warning.
Yeah, when you have portal technology at your disposal mobilizing is super hard. Just look at Scarlet who did just that. She can mobilize enough troops to instantly terrorize an entire zone at a moments notice, cause she has portals. It’s too bad we don’t have some kind of cheap and effective way to move around at a moments notice too…
Wait a second, I remember some guy told me about these things when I first started. They’re a common thing, that the Pact themselves even place for special insertion. They’re called Waypoints. Presumably, since a random NPC told me about them random NPCs could actually use them. And even if not we will have the main portals to each of the Order bases.
I’ll accept the Pact not being able to appear the instant Scarlet arrives, but they should be able to make the trek to Lion’s Arch of all places faster than they could to battle Jormag.
What do Charr do when confronted by a leader who is doing stupid kitten? They stand up and (sometimes) end up killing that person. They don’t bow down to an idiotic person directly above them. They most certainly don’t go “Well, that person beat me, so I’m just going to sit here suspecting an impending attack but do absolutely nothing to prepare myself or anybody else for it.”
Unfortunately, other than by the Charr, if he did what Charr do he’d have been look down on even more, and probably arrested because he would have just broken Kiel in half and possibly eaten her. At the same time, that’s a sub section of Charr. Blood legion will just kill them, Iron and Ash won’t necessarily.

The living story zerg fest, run in a circle and kill mobs and repeat all day, has finally become a normal part of the game.
Nothing bad about it but I seem to be missing the point of it? oh yes, Achievement points.
Um, excuse me, AND a back piece. Helloooo.
And the Aetherblade airships are far superior. I believe that the Pact airship fleet would have to step in. Hopefully, we will see that in the next patch. I would think the Glory of Tyria would make a return to do battle.
There’s a point. What exactly has the Pact been doing for the past year? All three of their head quarters are on the cusp of a major siege. They have instant portal access to Fort Trinity. Zaitan is “dead”, so Orr is supposedly just mop up. The combined might of the Pact was enough to take on a city at least three times the size of LA and Zaitan was way scarier than a big drill. They should make short work of Scarlet and all her nonsense.
How exactly would this be done retroactively? Based on the way the achievements worked there is no way to know if the event proper completed or not.
They have to have at least one ship on Claw Island. Now would be a pretty good time to use it.
So wait, even the lowest level version you make you get to set the stats?
I had a lowbie Mesmer parked at the Troll’s End puzzle chest and fully expected to find myself in another zone when I logged in to her last night. I was surprised and happy to find myself still there.
However as soon as I opened the chest, one of those beams of destruction from outer space blasted me off the rock that the chest is on.Take heed, if you still have someone up there for this purpose, open and log out quickly as the blast will knock you off and is unavoidable.
Stability?
Kiel was stonewalled by the rest of the council, no AA defenses ever got built. If Evon was on the council it would have been the same outcome.
Except Evon could have just built them himself and said kitten off to the Council. Or just thrown his realistic political clout around and made them listen. Threaten politicians with major financial situations and they have a tendency to back down.
If he could, then why didn’t he do so?
He’s a Charr. They’re vindictive. That’s what everyone gets for not electing him like they should.
Well smart move. Played out really well for him, cosnidering he’s now under direct orders of the lion’s guard, possibly facing execution. Top-strategist that Gnashblade. Almost makes you wonder how he did not end up on the captain’s council.
Yep. Brilliant move on his part. “I WARNED THEM ALL ABOUT IT!”
random npc: “then how come I only saw you pacing about your businessplace kittening about Kiel winning the election?”^ Cause that’s pretty much exactly what happened.
Because he’s Charr. That’s how Charr are. If he’d been elected he’d be right in the thick of things like everyone else. He wasn’t, so it’s not his problem and he’s not going to invest in it. Too bad for them. That’s how Charr think. It probably has something to do with the years of constant war after having their land taken from them by the humans. It’s cultural.
I’m not claiming it’s noble, and definitely that he’s more noble than Kiel. Just that he would have been a better choice for Council. Especially since he would be doing what he had to for the protection of the city, but that Kiel would ALSO be helping cause that’s just the way she is. Therefore if Evon had won there would be more active support for LA than there is because he lost.
That’s a nice reply, but at no point does it actually say that Evon isn’t selfish and doesn’t only care about glory. Even the Order of Whispers wouldn’t try to defend the indefensible.
Evon doesn’t care anything for glory. He’s Ash legion.
Greedy, maybe, but for greed’s sake, not glory, that’s dumb.
I think it looks way out of place for my sylvari. Best backpiece so far IMO is the Fervid censer, something this huge and tacky isn’t for my tastes (I still shudder when I think of that southsun horrid tentacle thing.) But I do like the update mechanic of it.
My only problem with the Sklerite everything is that they are representative of absolutely nothing which exists on Southsun. If even one of the Karka had crazy tentacles and eyes they’d be fine, but they don’t so they make no sense.

I have never understood the people who whine and complain about waypoint prices.
That was, afterall, the main selling point for Ellen Kiel, right? A waypoint discount. Did this even happen? Did anyone at all notice? Would anyone at all notice? Of course not, it doesn’t cost enough to matter. Do an event, waypoint cost covered. Wait you waypointed from Orr to Frostgorge? Ok, do two events, still covered.
If you actually play the game at all there is no reason to complain about the cost of anything. And even if they did remove the central gate hub from the game it would not have a realistic effect on the economy.
I’m really not following how this is ANet’s fault, nor problem. ANet doesn’t control the market, we do. If Tailoring is so expensive that’s not ANet’s fault it’s ours. That’s what supply and demand means. Obviously the demand for cloth is high, therefore it’s expensive.
Besides that, complaining about it like this isn’t going to do anything good. They’re more likely to increase the required mats in leatherworking to increase the price than they are to lower tailoring.
you’re right, I forgot that I programmed the game to:
1. Make silk bolts take 3 silk instead of 2
2. Made damask take 100 bolts of silk instead of 50 like all the other items
3. Made damask used in all 3 armor sets instead of just 1 like elonian and steelwe the players are so foolish for programming those things that made silk so expensive. That will learn us to do that again.
Well then I hope you learned your lesson. Next time don’t do that to everyone.
We have taken care to make sure that all elements of Lion’s Arch map completion are still accessible during the Escape from Lion’s Arch release. Some of them may be a little tricky, but you should be able to get to all Vistas, the Diving Goggles, and even still be able to do the Lion’s Arch jumping puzzles!
So far I’ve gotten all of them. I did the pirate puzzle and the sewer puzzle, but not the Ogre puzzle. I forgot to grab the Vista after the sewer puzzle, though, probably because I was being attacked by orbital bombardment at the time. And I also forgot the one in the smuggler cave.
I was disappointed that the pirate puzzle Vista is the same and so doesn’t exhibit any of the changes in LA, but the rest are really cool. The underwater one is king of lame, but since it passed the drill bit I took a shot of that. The diving Vista flies by the interesting destruction a little too fast, considering the end is just seaweed.
The best Vista, though, is the “new” Marionette Vista.
Back pieces are universal, they don’t have armor type requirements. The idea was obviously just to make it as accessible as possible to crafters.
It like a big shout out to City of Villains.
I was thinking the same thing. Does not look like blades, it looks like Aracnos spider backpack.
Yah, I’m quite happy with the Spinal Blade backpiece just as a “dummy” backpiece to transmute other appearances onto.
Provides a lot more stat combination variety than, say, temple exotic backpieces.
Probably not much of a change for Ascended since there’s already customization options there with the various fractal capacitors, the basic ascended backs, and Light of Dwayna / Shadow of Grenth, but for Exotic at least it’ll be pretty nice to use as a base.
The appearance of the Spinal Blade itself is pretty decent too. Different, but that’s good.
This right here. I’ve been waiting to get the crap back piece from the PS for my new Mesmer, but now, once I get the last piece I’ll be able to just craft a backpiece for her to put the red rose skin on.
You need to go to the north entrance from Gendarran Fields, the one with the Windmill, to the south entrance in Bloodtide Coast, or to a new east entrance in Lornar’s Pass just south of the Priory.
You can only enter during the event active time each hour. The gate will open up, but with a cross through it. Then a group of Scarlet’s minions will attack. Once they’re cleared you can enter LA.
I believe the rally point defense events don’t occur in the main servers (ie not overflow) as a result of the maps not ending properly.
I dunno, I got the daily and I have yet to see a main server since the event went live.

WHATTTT, 9000!!!!!! AHHHHHH
Your scouter must be malfunctioning.
This took too long, but at least I didn’t have to do it.
*Ranger
• Signet of the Beastmaster
• Signet Passive: Stowed pets stay stowed and give ranger buffs depending on pet stowed.
• Signet Active: The next time you are downed, your pet will pop from permastow and instaress you sacrificing stowed buffs for 1 min.Fixed
That’s actually not terrible. Though hilarious that you would make a power called Beastmaster be about not having your pet active.
I’ve just did a defend the dolyak event and got silver.. do I need gold to get it to count for daily?
Did it succeed? I don’t see why it would need gold. Do two more.
The daily is to succeed at three defend the * events. Defend the Ogres, Defend the Dolyaks, Defend the Children.. Moas, whatever. Finish any of them three times. I’m pretty sure I got it entirely on Dolyaks.
- However, by this moment you already have the bad experience from the release imprinted before you even tried it. But you already knew the answer anyway, and not playing content is the best way not to accidentally get any kind of pleasure and prove yourself wrong.
Incorrect not playing the content and asking for others opinions is the most efficient way to learn if there is even the silver possibility of finding enjoyment from the content. One knows one’s own tastes and can gauge from the feedback provided by others whether or not a piece of content of a video game would be worth their time or not. Every single one of us is selfish in that regard, we have our favored style of playing the game and will defend any content that allows us to indulge it.
Logging in for one run won’t kill you, and if you’re already so discontent with the game that you would just want to sit it out it isn’t going to crush your spirits either.
The only way to know is to do. People will spout what they spout, and unless you know everyone who is responding and know if their tastes match yours then nothing anyone tells you is actually meaningful. The best option is to log in and play it once. Actually be inside Lion’s Arch for ten minutes and decide if it’s not worth it. Anything else is just a waste of time and effort on all sides.
- Once again, an MMORPG should be “massive”, and if you want non-zerg=solo content only, I’m not sure where’s the point in playing an online game. A second to last event is supposed to be twice as epic and massive.
The hardware can’t support the definition, look at Final Fantasy XIV’s end event before the relaunch they had to divert the players to another location. I will concede that a second to last event should be impressive and massive, however I find this event to be quite small. An simultaneous strike against the capital cities or even the Order’s bases would give a feeling of massive as well as possibly alleviated the stains caused by Zergs.
The Hardware works just fine and supports it just fine. It definitely feels like it should. Also, while simultaneous attacks might seem more epic to you, they don’t have anything to do with the story that’s being told. Even attacking the Orders is entirely irrelevant to the plot.
- The previous content patch – Marionette – was all about breaking up zerg and using tactics. Have you played it at all? I participated about 40-50 times, got 3 wins only because of people who’re not capable of doing non-zerg content but still got 2 watchwork moas, an ascended armor chest and a couple of 4-6g recipes. That patch, however, made it clear that the majority of casuals are unable to handle that skill level, and we will be having something in between for the time being.
I have a different theory on what the patch highlighted. Supposed skill level was not the thing highlighted, but rather the lack of empathy within the various factions of the Guild Wars 2 community. Several of your points made seem to support this. Unfortunately I am incapable of providing a solution if this is indeed the problem.
Neither of these things are true. It was a failure in the design of the event that led to people with high plays but low wins. Though how anyone could play 40-50 times and get only 3 wins is beyond me. I played 20-30, maybe if that, but at least half of them were wins, minimum. And I am definitely a casual player.
It was the inability of the small groups to have any impact on the outcome beyond the small circle they influenced that caused the problems, not the casuals, and not the “lack of empathy.”
In this event they’ve removed the small groups, but still require separated groups to work together simultaneously, while also having other groups completing separate tasks, and also leaving room for individuals to go off and do their own thing, while still providing for the overall event.
