When I played with my 100nade build, Mesmer were my worse ennemy. Since We have to be melee range for most of our damage, and pinning down a good mesmer is nearly impossible, it was a really hard fight vs a pro opponnent.

I feel like Grenades shouldn’t have the same dps as bomb. As they can be traited for 1500 range, while bombs have 0 range, and a delay timer when you use them.
I find grenade to be a better choice then Bomb in almost any situation.
Condtions Grenade are more efficient for me because it proc more earth and trait bleed. It also has more chance to proc Incendiary powder.
I only take bomb over grenade when I use a confusion build. And it’s only for the concusion bomb.

Vapor Form is useless any other situation? Why so?
You have a guaranted, GUARANTED escape to survive 5-10 sec more then most class that have a single target interrupt as number 2.
You can mover yourself in the water, making you immune to finisher. You can move yourself to an allied group. You can move near weaks npc to kill them.
Vapor Form is the best, BEST, number 2 in the game right now.
I’m not asking for a nerf, but just to read some people say Vapor form is useless, I just wish I could swap my kitten single target pull with you for 1 week.

Not being instant is a pain to use them.
Especially with missile turret, which missile speed is really slow and tend to miss a lot when we use the ovecharge.

They are basically living conditions damage that can be killed and have a kitten AI.
Necromancer MM need that chaos to survive. The pets are really weak, and if they die the necro is mostly done.

But I gotta say, You are really hard to hunt as a zerg. I usually don’t have much issue to make zerg over extend, but you guys are really hard. I know if I attack one of you, the 15-20 player group will all come to me. Are you SE/BURN/DK on a team speak?
Talking of DK, I think I found in you guys a good oponent. I wish I could have get a fair fight from you guys, sadly what I received was focus fire from the whole group each time. I only have so many CC breaker before your Hammer combo, your wall, your ranger and your pull get me.

I didn’t have the same experience as you.
I have yet to find any upleveled player in WvW that could kill me. And I do 2+ hours a day of WvW roaming. And I’m not a pro pvpers ether.
When I aim for an upleveled, I know my damage will be crazy. And they will hit me like a wet noodle.

This combo is really hard to land on a good opponent.
In WvW even more, because of the pull issues and the lag/culling.
On my server, we just finished fighting vs NSP. NSP is a server with a lot of roaming group, and they have amoung the best players I found in WvW since release.
Trust me, I hardly ever landed a 100nade combo on those player. That’s the reason why I’m no longer 100nade. It’s a really powerful built, but in a 1vs1, if the enemy knows about it, you have to outplay them really bad to land it.
I’m not as good as five gauge or other pro engineer, but I rarely ever get beaten on my engineer. But landing 100nade on a good player, it’s a challenge. Especially immortal mesmer or a good contrip DD elem. I even fought a ranger from the SPLT guild that knew about my combo and made is impossible for me to land it.
100nade is good, but it’s far from being easy to land the burst. Well it’s easy on PvE/Zerg players, but any combo is easy on them.

We always have Stormbluff Invader coming in waves, all the time. I tell you, it’s like being a Russian during the early days of WWII.

I’m sure I’ve seen Engineers trolling people with those #2 and #3 skills, long enough to give an ally time to revive them. They don’t seem all that bad, can certainly be very annoying to finish them without invulnerability/stability/quickness available.
Like any class, if you give us the time to use our number 3, you already pretty much missed your shot.
The issue is we never get to use our number 3. I don’t remember the last time I used it.
I could explain it, but I would suggest trying it yourself in WvW or sPvP. Then you discover the horror.

The KR refinement barrage and failing damage grenade barrage share the same CD.
100nade is a really good build to hit and run people during a siege.
I see your build is similar to a 100 nade rush.
Exit the gate with invis from Elixir s toolbelt, 100nade some people. Dunk one with elixir S. Then gear shield to the gate. Work really well.

Anyone had terrible lag on DH Borderland yesterday? Any leap ability from my enemy, I would lose track of them because they would warp randomly.
Also, with the lag I’m really unsure of this. But I fought a ranger from BURN that kept warping around. I had my slick shoes on, and I can outrun mostly anybody when activating it, as it double my combat speed. But this ranger kept warping away. At first I thought it was lag, but then when he began to outran me it wasn’t normal. A ranger with a shortbow have no way to outrun me when I have me slick shoes toolbelt activated. I finaly got him, but kitten was that not a normal looking ranger.
It’s hardly any accusation, as I was having some surprise lag this night. But It was also really weird.

Well our confusion buils are mostly used in WvW.
Not sure it would be viable in sPvP. That confusion nerf in sPvP is really hard.

Hello fellow engineers, I come to you asking for advice.
I recently started playing this game a few days ago, and decided to roll an engineer. I so far love the profession and just hit the stage where I am able to get my toolkit. I greatly enjoy using it, and I wish to know a build revolving around it to level up with.
Any advice would be appreciated, thanks!
Focusing entirely on toolkit will prolly be hard. The kit itself don’t have much Area of effect damage skill, and is mostly useful to use cooldown then switch to another.
Maybe if you pair them with turret it can be useful for leveling. Been a long time since I leveled my engineer.
I would personally suggest going for bomb kit or grenade kit for leveling!

For box of nails, I mostly use it ether for setup, AoE slow when all is on cooldown or for running away.
If you have to retreat, and the enemy is right behind you, use your glue shot, then if it’s not enought, boxe of nail.
If you are dropping a prybar on someone in the middle of a group, walk out while throwing box of nail. You cripple the whole group. Useful when glue shot/bomb are on CD. Also give Bleeds damage.
When using magnetic pull, drop nails just before. Ennemy will be crippled.
I just can’t live without Gear shield. When you get focused on by a group, or someone drop a burst on you. Gear shield is just magic. 0 damage from a shatter mesmer is awesome.
Magnetic pull is a lot more about setting up combo. 100nade combo, prybar combo, big ol bomb combo. Magnetic pull is wonderful. Also useful to chase or interrupt someone.

Even before last patch, I think most people agreed that tookit was a very useful kit.
But since last patch, just with the amount of build (mine,Mask build, Serj build,100nade) that revolve around using tookit is crazy.
I think overall, this kit went ahead of Grenade as our most useful kit in the bunch.
Every, every skill on it is useful, except maybe the auto attack but WHO CARE!
For one utility, we have an AoE cripple/bleed on a low cooldown, especially if traited. We have a HARD hitting direct damage + 5(FIVE!) stack of confusion for 5 seconde. We have a 3 second gear block on another low cooldown when traited. And finaly, an awesome pull that could be the best pull in the game.
For one, I think every kit should be like that. Every skill are used during a fight. They don’t feel like a waste like flash grenade, or lackluster like glue bomb or fire field or most EG skills except SE.
I think Anet is on a very good way with Toolkit, and should work the same way with other kits. Early on, Toolkit had prybar nerfed for not knocking back people. The kit was a bit lack luster. 1 sec block for gear block, and I think something around 600 range for magnetic pull.
It got slowly buffed each patch. The last patch double buff was out of nowhere, still not sure it needed it. But that kit is just awesome.
We want more kit like that Anet!

We are very few, and multikit Engineer are prolly the highest skill cap in the game!
You won’t ever stop positionning yourself and rotating kits. On 90% of the build, you won’t ever auto attack more then once during a fight.

But that’s a good thing for us.
Prybar stack of confusion last for 5 sec without any buff. It can last for 8-10 sec with rune/traits.
So that’s 5-10 sec of them not attacking. Some won’t dodge because it proc the confusion.
That’s 5-10 second if they enemy don’t have any condition removal, to attack them.
It’s a good thing. Tho it’s even better if they attack while under confusion, I give you that.

Why the nerf on kit refinement? While the nerf doesn’t seems to fully work yet, adding a global cooldown over an individual cooldown on a trait that will affect non-FOTM build (HGH unaffected,100nade is affected, but not so much – Multikit build (hardly viable) are affected really hard) seems to be a really weird move. We are really wondering why did that happen?
Do you consider engineer downed state balanced? Compare it with Mesmer, thief, Elem. Especially number 1 and 2 abilities.
Like someone else asked :
Do you consider making some subpart build better? Ex : Engineer Turret, Necromancer Pets, Warrior banner, Trap thief, Non DD/SD Elem.

The funny thing about engineer “versatility” is that most of decent the engi builds fall into the “one-trick” pony category (100nades, the new confusion builds, static discharge, Tankcat). This is not to say these builds are easy to play, quite the contrary most folks need to play extremely well to execute their strategy, but in the end if the opponent dodges or recognize the “trick” there is little the Engineer can do to counter.
1) If you are looking to forums for stupidly named builds. Then you really shouldnt play the engineer.
2) If you are unable to do research on your own, to design a build, trait and equipment to fit your playstyle and reaction time. You shouldnt play an engineer.
3) If you rely on youtube to teach you how to play a class. Then you need to play some easy game like Call of Duty.

i just ran into an engineer and died in 1 second. i run a glass ranger so i know i’m really weak, but i was hit for 1-2k about 10 times by grenade barrage in under a second.
i’m curious to know what this is because i’ve never seen it before. i was pretty surprised when i was dead instantly.
With a Ranger again a 100nade, use your range and your high amound of dodge.
Being Glass Ranger, won’t be easy as it is not a top build, but you can still kite engineer around as they have to be close to do a lot of damage.

This is not aimed at any one server. I’ve ran in the zerg before, I’ve done the small group roaming, I’ve done the solo roaming. But seriously, all I can think of when I see this scene is a zerg forming up at spawn and leaving to try and cap a tower/keep.

Your solution to fight range : Use pistol.
So your tips to any class that will range your build (Ranger, Ranged thief (wild bill and all the rest), Mesmer, HGH Engineer, Necromancer) is to use a untraited, condition weapon in a power only build? This isn’t going to win any fight. You also give up all your healing by switching to pistol. No kitRegenarator, No infused bomb.
Drakeco and Maskaganda are both solo roaming Engineer, and I doubt they are bad. Mostly any build can be effective in a zerg fight. If you count on allies to immob your enemy, sure it’s not a bad build. But not sure it’s viable ether.
About DD Elem, I will ask you to seek a bit more. Right now, in sPvP they are the top Dog, even after the nerf. In WvW, they are unnerfed and they are still the best roamer around in the hand of a good player. Hybrid Elem hit hard, and are hard to down. They are an example of what this build should do.
The difference between Warriors and guardians, is they have gap closer, and there attack are instant. They don’t have a 3/4 sec delay before there damage explode like our bombs.
Any non-crippled/non-immob/non-chilled player will usually evade 75% of your bomb. A free to move player should evade any kind of Big Ol Bomb.
If the attitude would have been different in the original post, I’m sure the answer would have been more understanding. Wouldn’t make this build anymore good then it is, but still would be a better discution.
Someone posting with the “I’M better than any of you without even playing the class” attitude receiving negative reply, how the hell could this happen?

Well I didn’t say infused bomb was not efficient, but I just wondered if it was useful for your playstyle.
Not sure what to replace it with, If you drop bomb, it would also mean dropping some traits.
If you want to stay supportive for your team, I guess Elixir Gun could be an option. Sicne last patch Super Elixir isn’t bad at all! You can switch bomb infused for Kit refinement in tool line, and get a double Super Elixir on switch. Tho with the rescent kit refinement nerf, not sure if it’s going to be a mess with the grenade kit switch.
I don’t have much idea right now, will tyr to think about it! But your build is still interresting, if it’s fit your gameplay style, it’s perfect Except for power shoe, drop that!
And I would take Protective shield over explosive descent! Protective shield is a really good trait!

But drop power shoe man Movement speed don’t stack, and you already have speedy kit.
So you have perma swiftness (33%) and power shoe (25% in combat). The game only use the 33% movement speed from swiftness, and ignore power shoe.
I would also drop exploding powder for Incendiary powder. Only because you seems to be more about condition damage, and less about direct damage. Also because Incendiary powder is fantastic.
Also, is heal infused bomb really that efficient? You have a really low HP and average armor, you prolly drop really fast in close combat. Is the heal really useful? Without much healing gear?
I personally hate to use both Grenade and bomb in the same build, As I feel with the grenadier trait, grenade are way superior.

Elem DD bunker can be more efficient, with more mobility, more cond removal, more CC breaker and more damage.
How just curious how do you land your bomb vs any good player in WvW? You don’t have swiftness, so you are already slower then anyone around. You don’t have gap closer, and only 1 immob/slow that is also a bomb.
It’s a big meat shield, nothing more.
