I dont know how these custom arenas work. If i buy one will it last forever, or it will disappear if i dont pay the rent? I would like to have one if its guaranteed that i will never lose it.

It comes with 30 days and if you run out of time there is a 2 week grace period before it disappears. Most players using them use guild groups to fund the arena to share the cost.

How do you propose that the QA team properly test something that is due to go out to millions of players? Fact is, there’s no way to find every bug. Every game out there has them, and it’s because things happen that can’t be predicted until it’s in the live environment.

Given S1 rewards still haven’t been received I’d say it was a fair bet that the same thing would happen.

What do you mean didn’t get their Season 1 rewards? Everyone I know got them and I guarantee if people didn’t get them after Season 1 there would have been just as much screeching and caterwauling as there is now.

I too find it amusing how somehow farmers have been made to be the badguys

Because THIS…

it costs thousands of gold to buy a single legendary or 500 gold for a skin

…Is the FARMERS’ fault. The farmers’ and the TP PLAYERS. Without EITHER of those, NO ONE would have THOUSANDS of gold, ergo NOTHING would be so EXPENSIVE.

If GW2 had NO farmers, the game would be MUCH, MUCH better for everyone ELSE.

You’ve obviously not considered there’s every possibility that the price would skyrocket if less farmers existed.

Farmers often help curb that spike between supply and demand.
If there are terrible drop rates in game and you at least want a chance to purchase something on the TP, then you’re more likely to get that item if farmers constantly…well…farm it. That ends up getting farmers trying to undercut each other for a sale.

- The more farmers there are, the more there are on TP, the lower the price gets.
- The less farmers there are, the less on the TP and the more expensive it’ll get.

While I’m not saying this is the be all-end all of farmers and the TP, but it’s definitely not just Black and White as you assume.

Uhm he’s also leaving out one major factor which is the REAL source of the problem. All of the outside gold coming in from the gem to gold conversion. That produces gold that wasn’t in the market in the first place and any 1st year economist will tell you this alone will drive up prices faster and is more dangerous than any other internal economic system.

That’s incorrect. The gem to gold conversion does not add gold to the economy, it is players trading gold they earned from the game. It actually acts as a gold sink in the economy, by way of a built in transaction fee.

Generic Quests =/= Hearts and Events. How?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

The difference is it really is dynamic.

I can be at some small outpost, talking with a vendor and unpacking my bags, just minding my own business. Next thing I know, the outpost is under attack – huge herds of Centaurs are galloping through, careening and skittering around, killing the NPCs, yelling their war cries. The NPCs pick up arms to fight them back, some die. The vendor I was selling to has run off with a sword in his hand, crying to us to rally to him. Now more players are showing up and the event scales larger and larger, bigger attacks, champs instead of veterans. I can pick up arms and choose to join the battle at hand or run off if I feel overpowered. If I run off and they lose the battle, that outpost will be destroyed. I may see the smoking ruins from the distance, for the time being I can no longer sell my wares there.

When you understand that this event is part of a series or chain of events, that it was triggered by a smaller event on the other side of the map – I mean it could be something as simple as a player losing a snowball fight with some children, then you really understand how very different it is from exclamation points NPCs pinned to a map.

Just want to say how much fun I’m having with the new trait system. I started leveling a new character and was surprised to find I’m getting so many traits unlocked simply by running around the open world and doing different things. Has a real BONUS! feeling when I unlock one.

At level 40 now, there’s has been a couple that I’ve specifically sought out – seems like a really good direction for the game, very much like skill hunting in GW1.

I think is ok to charge 200 gems to a player like me, that have lvl 80 characters since long time. Meaning that if i missed a part of the LS is bcs i didnt want to log in, or couldnt do it, but no doubt i can pay 200 gems if i missed one part.

My question is, what happens with new players, the ones that just start (or didnt started yet) and/or started since some time ago but dont have any lvl 80 char yet?

I think those players shouldnt pay 200 gems for things that they didnt had the chance to play yet, or even knew that existed. To be honest, this isnt a new player friendly thing.

Sorry for the broken english

You don’t need to be 80 to unlock the content. Any player logging in over the 2 weeks that chapter is active unlocks the content no matter what level they are. They just can’t play it until they hit 80.

1) The combat is amazing fun. I’ve been playing since launch and still have a couple professions to level but so far it’s the most fun combat I’ve ever played in an MMO. The wealth and beauty of the combat animations give the combat a real visceral feel unlike any other.

2) The lore – I’ve never been a huge lore-hound but this game has me hooked. I never knew I wanted it but Living Story chapters every 2 weeks keeps me extremely interested and logging in.

3) The gorgeous open world, the dynamic events, how exploration is more important than questing, how dungeons feel dangerous. The art is just stunning.

I think it’s the best MMO on the market atm, certainly better than any I’ve played.

The hidden truth about the "Chaos of Lyssa"

in Festival of the Four Winds

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

The reason why ANet won’t do anything about flippers hijacking markets is because it benefits them greatly to see these higher prices. Remember that gold as a currency is tied to gems which can be purchased for real money. They hope to drive new players into purchasing gold in order to catch up which is exactly why they keep on nerfing popular farm spots.

Unfortunately this short-sighted greed is having an extremely negative effect on the game as a whole. Short of getting extraordinarily lucky a new player will have no way to ever compete on the market. They’re strangling their own game trying to squeeze a few more dollars out of it.

I don’t agree. The best result for the game and therefor the best result for ArenaNet is for the markets to work as efficiently as possible (usually). Fortunately, the nature of the trading post provides a lot of natural force for markets to work efficiently. While nothing is 100% perfect, the large majority of every part of the game’s economy runs incredibly efficiently and we put a lot of effort into making sure that they remain that way.

Do you consider the precursor and Chaos of Lyssa market working “efficiently”?
I guess quite efficient for the flippers.

I think you may not understand the term efficient as it pertains to investing.

Why the Guild Wars 2 Internet Hate?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

I think there’s a small but vocal subset of GW1 players that prefer the solo around with henchies playstyle and really didn’t understand what taking the franchise to MMO status meant.

There’s also a few GW1 players that see the addition of ascended gear as a total betrayal by ArenaNet. They don’t think ascended gear was necessary even though players were getting full exotics in a week.

There’s also some WoW/WoW clone players that don’t understand the non-linear sandboxxy-type features of GW2, they prefer the more traditional exclamation point lead you through the game type quests. Also quite a few of those players think since there isn’t one ultimate instance at endgame that there is no endgame.

But in my experience 90% of it is advertising for another game. “This game sucks, come play WoW, this game sucks ESO is better” type stuff. There’s big money in gaming, millions of dollars are at stake. Some players think with every post they are saving “their game”.

Not to discredit anyone’s genuine gripes with the game, MMOs are evolving beasts and no game is perfect. But this pic pretty much says it all:

I agree. This is why I would prefer a sub. Paying those 15 bucks a month and being sure that the devs are working to make the game better and fun, instead of creating the next bunny ears in the cash shop. If the game is poor, I simply stop paying.

There used to be some great MMO’s with subs. Not one of those games was working against you. Because that’s how I feel about GW2. I’m playing against the game and not the content.

I wish I could agree with you, but subs games are duplicitous too.

Usually a sub game or sub player offers a couple different justifications for the sub price – premium content or increased quantity of content, and inclusivity; ie that rewards are all included ‘in game’ for the sub price.

Neither of those is true nowadays.

Take WoW – a nine month hiatus on ‘content’ before the release of it’s Cataclysm expansion, and currently what is it – 8 months and on-going? before the release of it’s next. Subscription prices are ongoing during all of that time; you also don’t receive any kind of discount for the expansion prices for paying a sub for all those content-less months.

There’s no sub game that releases more content objectively than many of the f2p/b2p games out there. As for premium quality, that’s subjective but .. let’s just say that I’d lean towards content being of a relatively evenish quality between sub and f2p/b2p games.

As for inclusivity of content for the sub price – don’t make me laugh; sub games sell services and special items in their cash shops too. No such thing.

I’m not even going to get into the topic of how subscriptions can force a game to be designed with deliberate and meaningless timesinks.

So.. take it all together, and what do you get for your sub fee? Bupkiss aside of access, which most games – not even MMOs only! – include for free to their multiplayer.

The difference between a sub MMO and cash-shop MMO is not about which one has more contents. In a sub MMO, the focus is the design of attractive contents that satisfies the player’s demands (hardcore or casual) to keep those subscribers happy. In a cash-shop MMO is goal is to design contents around the cash-shop items and sell more gems. Both models work can work great IMO, but don’t have the same expectations from a cash-shop MMO compared to a sub.

The difference between a sub MMO and a B2P MMO is that the sub MMO only lets you roll for loot once a week. That’s how they make their moneyz.

…And B2P MMO such as GW2 doesn’t have any loot or time restrictions?

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/crafting/Remove-time-gate-in-Ascended-crafting/first#post3353316

Not nearly as obnoxious as the weekly lockouts that sub games employ. Weekly lockouts to get a chance at your loot dropping, then another chance on top of that maybe you’ll win the loot roll. If someone doesn’t ninja it of course.

Whereas in a sub game, you can see everything from every dungeon, to every raid, and zone and dallies, etc.

Except you’ll be doing it by yourself since the whole game is designed around the very last raid and everything else is irrelevant and obsolete.

I had a friend recently drop that “game that shall not be named” since with the weekly lockout + RNG it took 2 months to get 1 piece of gear – that’s $30 cash for one stinking piece of gear and you can’t buy it with ingame gold either.

Sub or no sub, cash shop or no cash shop. The beauty of GW2 is that if you quit, you can always come back. The account exists until you get banned, or request a termination.

You and everyone else say this like it is unique to GW2. If I am playing WoW one month, and quit the next month, I can always come back to WoW and my account is there.

Difference is, I’m not required to pay a monthly fee to keep playing, or restart playing.

Yeah, I hate those “got to pay to log in” models. So glad GW2 didn’t go that route.

New patch?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

We’ve heard that the Chinese and US/EU versions of GW2 will be receiving concurrent updates, so can players expect a break in between Festival of the Four Winds and the start of season two to let the Chinese community members get their feet under them?

Zadorojny: The big thing about this festival is that we wanted to really make it feel like it was a huge welcoming celebration but at the same time that it was something that existing Guild Wars 2 players could come back and take the time to enjoy. It’s a chance for everyone to come together and celebrate before we launch into the start of Season 2. Don’t worry; by the end of the festival, you’ll hear more about Season 2.

Waller: Our focus right now is having a great release with Festival of the Four Winds, and hopefully people will enjoy both the Labyrinthine Cliffs and the Queen’s Pavilion. While they’re enjoying that, they should know that before the release is over there will be more information that will make it clear about what’s coming. As a fun note, players who have been carefully watching the progress of the “Festival of the Four Winds” release will be able to find hints that might tease at living world season 2.

Source

The developers are heads-down working on the future content releases. We are also in the middle of launching the game in China. Launching a game in a new country is kind of a big deal. Because of the team’s focus on game development, they are not able to dedicate as much time out of their workday to posting on the forums. While they might have time to read the forums, they don’t necessarily have time to engage in discussion.

I know it’s hard to be patient in this down time between Living World seasons, but please bear with us. As much as you’re craving new content to play, the team is dying for you to play it.

Unfortunately, I can’t give you any information about future content, whether it’s plot spoilers or timeline. I can say that, as a player, I am very excited about the next season, and I cannot wait to see what you all think about it.

Please know that your feedback continues to be important, our devs are still reading (though they may not have time to respond), and we sincerely appreciate your support and you sharing all your thoughts with us (critical or otherwise).
