Dusty Moon, it’s the way they phrased the answer that’s most disappointing.

GuildMag: But will it come back after the current season?

Matt Wuerffel: We can’t really comment about what our long term plans are for the game, and so, you know, it is a similar answer if you ask me what was gonna happen in the upcoming episodes of season 2. Like, I really can’t say. But it is a very much different game in a lot of ways than Guild Wars 2 – a game within a game – and we’re trying to focus already in World v. World and PvP and PvE and Fractals. There are lots of systems that we have and we want to focus first on getting those to a state where we’re really happy with them and we’re fully supporting them and then we could look into… ‘All right, now that we have those up to a quality that we’re really happy with and fans are really happy with, what other projects can we take on, and what things can we look at doing?

It sounds like it’s last on the list AFTER they and the fans are happy with everything else, then maybe they will look at doing other things which may or may not include reintroducing SAB.

I am just crushed

Let me ask you then, stale – how many junk items do you think should generate a unique piece of armor? 100? 250? 250,000?

Too few and you have a fairly meaningless, completely mediocre method of acquiring unique sets. They wouldn’t be unique because everyone would have them.

Too many and it would be a grind. A grind for JUNK.

Most assuredly related to expanded Commander functionality.

Pugmanders: gaining the respect of militia?

in WvW

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

One of the best pugmanders on my server is one calm, cool, collected cat. He explains the strat as we are moving towards an objective and tells why it was successful when we succeed, “see how we sliced their zerg into 2 smaller groups by running up that hill” kind of stuff. Always links waypoints for fast travel, never rages even under the most extreme duress.

If we are outnumbered that week he focuses on defending tactics and promotes practicing different strats – always a positive experience running with this guy. People love him to death.

Let’s see what we get this time… :P

1. Competitive Week
2. A Fresh Start
3. Collecting and Trading

While the first week covers PvP/WvW, I’m not sure what “A Fresh Start” will be… Any ideas?

Btw, check http://www.zam.com/story.html?story=34887 for more details

A Fresh Start could possibly be a reset for the Glicko rating or rebalancing world WvW populations?

Thanks for the great content!

Thinking about returning, got some questions

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

WvW is still massively popular. They added a new map called Edge of the Mists, many of the more casual players have drifted over there and WvW proper now has more tactical and strategic play.

Players are still encouraged to play in all open world areas, for instance our last chapter in the Living Story took us to The Grove, Iron Marches, Hoelbrak, Dry Top (a new zone) and Plains of Ashford.

Not really a massive grind at all. There is some level 80 only content (all new Living Story and a few dungeons) and quite a bit that is generally only played by level 80 characters (most dungeons and Fractals), but most of the open world is available according to your level. Without the gear treadmill grind form of endgame that most MMOs offer, it’s easy to jump back in feeling just as powerful as when you left.

Expansion or end of franchise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

Games with gear treadmill endgames NEED expacs, they wither and die without them.

GW2 doesn’t have that problem. Since they give us new content every 2 weeks – new zones, new dungeons, new stories, new maps, new features, it keeps us playing.

Why do people make statements like this?

Every time WoW loses another million subs, some WoW kid goes into full on panic mode and posts here.

Truth is all the expacs in the world can’t save WoW from it’s inevitable slide into obscurity.

Question about explorer achievements

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

Shouldn’t take too long. If you use the Bluestone wiki link, simply expand each map of the region and check it against your ingame map. When you uncover an area the name of that area appears on your map.

So for instance, if you are working on your Ascalon Explorer achievement, hit the show button on the wiki for Fireheart Rise. It shows 25 named areas. Now open your ingame map and verify you have all those 25 names on your map. The ones you don’t have you need to discover, click the name of the area on the wiki and it will pull up a map showing just where that area is. Then do the same for the other 6 maps until you have the Explorer achievement for that region.

Have fun with it, there’s some really cool stuff hidden away in those out of the way places. Talk to the NPCs there, there’s tons of lore also.

The reason these aren’t simply check boxes on the report button is they are generally more complicated issues and require an explanation of what is going on, make sure to include screenshots, date and time, server and map of when you observed the action.

Most Populated Server?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

You heard wrong. They use a megaserver technology to sort overflows according to server, party, friendslist and also to combine servers on less used maps. Even the most out of the way cities have a bustling population. There are more complaints about too many players at events rather than too little.

For WvW it really depends. The higher ranked servers have more round the clock coverage, but even low ranked servers will queue up maps on reset and during prime time. As the week goes on there is less activity in all tiers as the matches reach resolution and players move to EotM or PvE.

https://leaderboards.guildwars2.com/en/na/wvw

Imo, a new player would fare better on a Silver league server since you’ll most likely get steamrolled in the top tiers before you have a chance to learn the game mode.

All the skins in your PvP locker have now been moved to your Wardrobe in your bank. Whatever you wear into PvP basically turns into a skin there, use the UI located at the center top of your screen to apply PvP runes/sigils/stat amulet and set your PvP traits.

You get new skins from the PvP reward tracks now. For transmutation, all your levels in PvP were converted to transmutation stones, combine them to form transmutation charges and use the wardrobe feature to apply new skins to your gear.

My dear Stand The Wall, I understand your pain, I truly do. Having watched my previous server’s excruciatingly slow, painful, drawn out descent from Tier 1 to T6 last year (it took 18 weeks of losses just to leave T1), I thought I knew what Glicko Hell was.

But it turns out Glicko Hell goes deeper than Dante’s Inferno. I’ve entered a new circle: Glicko is now running backwards and pushing us up the ranks even though we are losing against a higher ranked server.

GW1 players how do you feel?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Karizee.8076

I just have to say something.

I never played Guild Wars 1, but a friend told me about Guild Wars 2 and I started playing in the beta. Within the first 20 minutes I knew this game was going to be special. And it is.

Having fallen in love with the world and the stories and the combat and the game modes, I’d considered picking up Guild Wars 1 to delve a bit deeper into the backstory, but if anything has convinced me to not play GW1, it’s the GW1 players that post on this forum. All this stuff about soul-crushingly hard content, 800 skills and builds and heroes and henchmen has been an absolute turn off to me. Not to mention the attitude and demeanor of this small minority of GW1 players with their continual bashing of this game and their sour, bitter and hateful treatment of anyone or anything to do with GW2 which is hands down the best MMO I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing.

I honestly wonder if you folks have ever played an MMO before because if you’ve seen the garbage that’s out there you would know that this gorgeous, fascinating and immensely interesting world the devs have created for us is one of a kind jewel in an ocean of mediocrity and to be treasured.

Seriously, if you like GW1 better, why don’t you play GW1 instead of posting here?

The only reason you don’t hear about it as much is they rarely launch patches. I think they are going on a year now without one and their bug forums are still full of bugs from the last one!

Hey guess what, the same applies for gw2.

No, GW2 launches patches every 2 weeks.

Yet, we still have bugs which exist for over an year or things which took them over a year to fix.

You might be new to MMOs. They all have persistent or recurring bugs, things that are difficult to reproduce since they are such large complicated games.

If you really want to play a bug free game I suggest looking to console or board games because every MMO I’ve ever played, without fail, from the biggest to the smallest, no matter how much or how little PTS they had always had bugs.

This is what you all get for not jumping in on the public test server and helping to make sure these events work right.

Oh…wait….

PTS aren’t a cure all, and let’s not pretend otherwise. Most of the people I know who were on PTS for WoW did it so their guilds could get raid timing down for when it went live. Did nothing to help with the bugs. They were only interested in getting world firsts or whatever.

I repeat, public test servers aren’t a cure all.

We don’t pretend it is a cure, we know it should be integrated as a part of their testing workflow. Also, "Most of the people I know " is a meaningless extrapolation, PTR in WoW did serve it’s purpose to an acceptable degree. It is not my intention to come out harsh, but PTR is not just a fancy idea it’s a essentially a developing tool.

Don’t be holding WoW up like it’s some kind of shining beacon of perfectly polished gaming because it’s not. I played that game and every single patch without fail was full of bugs, from wildly unstable servers to bosses twirling off into the lava to low level paladins beating end game raid bosses and throwing their rankings off for entire seasons.

The only reason you don’t hear about it as much is they rarely launch patches. I think they are going on a year now without one and their bug forums are still full of bugs from the last one!

Megaservers was implemented because of how dead the maps were in majority of the servers. If you werent in a tier 1-3 server, most maps looked dead.

Anyways, heres a recent link to Top 10 MMOs past year revenue…GW2 is not in it (Although some other games from NCsoft are…)

http://www.polygon.com/2014/7/20/5920815/list-of-mmos-by-revenue-warcraft-old-republic

Source is game industry international.

There is no doubt in my mind gw2 is dwindling in population… I highly doubt theres even an average of 50k concurrent player

The reason GW2 is not on that report is it references subscription games only. Here is where they got their information:

http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-07-18-the-old-republic-earned-usd165-million-last-year-report

Now according to NCsoft’s financial reports for 2013, this is their income for GW2. That would put GW2 at #5 on that list.

Q1 2013 32,800,000
Q2 2013 25,800,000
Q3 2013 22,900,000
