Just did a fresh install on a friend’s computer this evening, took less than an hour with a good connection.
In 2011 WoW had over 12 million ACTIVE subscribers, GW2 barely broke 450k in august of 2013 and hasnt even sold half of what WoW has in active subscriptions in overall copies sold.
You are comparing a peak concurrency number to total number of subs. Peak concurrency is total number of players logged in at a single moment, where a sub indicates how many logged in over an entire month.
For instance, WoW’s peak concurrency at MoP launch was only 1 million which falls within industry standards – peak concurrency is usually around 10% of total active players per month. So GW2 probably has ~4 million active players (if not more since the China launch).

Rare drop from Bandit chests. They are tradeable so you can buy off the TP from players that got a lucky drop.
You (ANet) shouldn’t punish your playerbase when you (Gaile) had to work on a potato with a bad internet connection. Long loading times in a forum holy kittens … I didn’t knew such things exist.
Am I the only one, then? I experience long load times at work (strong ‘Net service as you can imagine), at home (fast cable), on the road — everywhere. Maybe I’m impatient, but posting and loading to read take me quite a little bit of time.
It’s instantaneous for me, as fast as I can click I can see pages or threads or posts or subforums or w/e.
The only thing that tends to spool up is editing a post.
I spent most of the day in the new JP yesterday, very fun! More of an exploratory feel, less of a skilled platformer type thing.
And it’s vast! Extends past the current Silverwastes boundary. All those ancient ruins underneath, feels very mysterious.
I also happened to see Mr. Josh Foreman himself in there going after a Golden Coin – it was one where you can take the long skinny cable from the boat to the cliffside, he laughed at us that thought that was way to enter the JP and directed us to the south of the boat.
Big thumbs up for this content, thoroughly enjoyable
Gaile, if I may make a suggestion for the sticky threads? What do you think of having a single Bookmark sticky that links to some of the current stickied threads categorized by topic? Then the team could still have plenty of room to sticky high priority discussions and the community wouldn’t lose threads that we’ve come to value.
Not a mystery, we know very well how it works. It does differ depending on the mob/boss however, providing more interesting combat than simplistic trinity games.
Here’s a vid that illustrates how it changes from daylight to shadow:
And some pics to show the glow in the dark effect:

I wonder if you can dye the Luminescent Armor. Every picture I’ve seen of it looks blue. The NPCs wearing it in Silverwastes have blue armor.
You can dye the luminescent but the dyes appear a bit differently than normal and have a blue-ish tint. Here’s my character with Enameled Reign and Anamnesis (dark red/crimson colors) on the shoulders.
The blue effect also pulses, it fades bluer then pinker every 30 seconds or so.
My speculation is since we are getting 2 pieces of the carapace and luminescent armors in both episode 7 and 8, that they each will last one month.
So episode 7 to launch tomorrow, Wintersday launches on the 16th, episode 8 to launch in January.
Ya I think this would be more likely.
I agree with that. (As a sidenote, I don’t think I’m going to bother trying to collect the luminescent version; it took me some time to realize it, but I saw side-by-side illustrations of carapace and luminescent on the wiki and realized they’re both the same design. I guess the difference is that luminescent is, well, luminescent.)
My guild leader was speculating yesterday that the next episode will move back to Dry Top. How likely is that?
Although they have the same skin, the luminescent set glows in the dark. I’m building the set just for that reason
Hard to say where tomorrow will take us, things are definitely heating up in western Silverwastes.

The current Living Story is awarding keys, you can take all your alts through for a free key each.
Yes. If you buy a copy you get a key, you can give the key to a friend and they will register it as their account. Perfectly legit
You can check here for authorized retailers.
Confirmed not working as intended, they are working on it.

If you are having difficulty with cripple, you may find it helpful to use some condition clearing/mitigating skills, traits and food.
We know Wintersday starts on December 16th, but I don’t think they’ve said yet how long it will run.

Greetings Leah, very happy to see you on the team – great work on the last 2 episodes
For myself, I’m still not really connecting with Kasmeer. She comes off a bit too “Reese Witherspoon goes on an adventure with Scoobie and the gang”. Here is the Kasmeer I keep waiting to see:

I do applaud setting her and Jory on the alternate path inside Glint’s Lair, that was brilliant. I could still hear the conversation, but it felt a bit removed from me, it was still my adventure.
I have 5 80s but I mostly play my elementalist so she is the only one I’ve done full world completion on.
On the others I do get as many waypoints as possible so I can move them quickly around and while I may skip some of the middle zones, I try to go for map completion in the high level zones for the 2 free exotics and 40 t6 mats zone reward. I’ve made some good gold from those zone rewards, the exotics often have the superior strength runes.
Only made 1 legendary so far, I still have the other Gift of Exploration in my bank.
I wouldn’t call Glint’s lair a zerg fest. That was a pretty sweet dungeon we got last week.
This thread isn’t referring to instanced content as dungeons, this is referring to your typical 5-man dungeons with story mode and explorable paths, like Twilight Arbor or Sorrow’s Embrace. And, as has already been pointed out, there are no plans for developing more dungeons of this type, given that the team was disbanded.
Hmm, I ran the Glint dungeon with a 5 man group, it was awesome. First we did the Story mode and then we did the achievement mode
Seems the line gets a bit blurry on instanced content. I see players that solo old dungeons and players forming groups for the new LS dungeons. We had the Battle on the Breachmaker raid which was what? A 25 man dungeon? That’s all a raid is isn’kitten A glorified dungeon?
You’re the 2nd person in this thread to say the dungeon team was disbanded yet we are getting all these dungeon instances, do you have a source?

I am not finding where this info comes from, can I get a link?

Usually I just read the dev and patch posts, the rest is pretty much pointless arguing and hyperbole and it’s terribly tiresome to have the same convos over and over again or try to combat those trying to sell other games.
The devs have stated on numerous occasions that only a very small fraction of players ever post on the forums, reddit or fansites. I guess like most players, I mostly just play and love the game, only go looking for info when I need it
Perhaps it would be better if a mod moved this to tech the support forum. I figured enough players used sweet FX, that some player would know, and respond.
Not really a question for Tech Support since this is a 3rd party overlay that enhances post processing. You’d be better off posting to SweetFx’s site.
I say dump what you don’t need, they are raining these mats for players that think it’s too hard to get them.
An amazingly fun game with a wide range of difficulty that appeals to players of all ages and skill levels (although there is a small very hardcore/difficulty focused group of players that believe the game does not offer extreme tests of their prowess).
There is a reason it’s so popular
I think it’s just a flavor item, not everything needs to be about stats
I’ve got all available armors so far (that’s 3 weights of both the shoulders and the gloves in both carapace and luminenscent – all 12 pieces) and there is no horrific grind.
In fact, I have 2 extra shoulder boxes since they pretty much drop like rain in the new underground labyrinth and I have another 3k bandit crests I don’t know what to do with since you also get those in most ridiculous amounts. In total I only spent 1k crests for a pair of gloves since I was impatient to get it done
I can tell you haven’t even tried to play through this content and are just parroting what you heard some other scamp say because there is no grind to speak of here. I’ve only played the new zone maybe 7 or 8 hours since the patch launched Tuesday – if you think this is grind you need to try any other MMO on the market.
So, you were both lucky with the drops (and i mean really lucky – in my whole guild we had only one carapace chest drop so far), and were farming the crests 2h/daily on average (if those 7-8 hours include tuesday and friday – and friday is not finished yet. so, most likely at least 3h/daily). Now, put yourself in a position of someone trying for 10k (gloves, helmet, boots, legs, chest) while not being so lucky and not actually liking this grind. Such a person will end up hating this zone. I know that i am already starting to.
No, hate is playing WoW for 6 months waiting for a trinket drop, grinding the same raid on as many difficulties as you can, over and over and over, week in and week out, because you need that trinket to play the next content. Then one day finally it does drop but some ninja looter swipes it and shards it in front of you. That sir, is a grind.
This is nothing.
In fact, I have 2 extra shoulder boxes since they pretty much drop like rain in the new underground Labyrinth
They don’t drop for everyone “like rain”. You were just lucky.
Greetings.
In the 7 or 8 hours I played the zone I got 3 extra boxes altogether – 2 shoulders and 1 gloves. But let’s say I was just ridiculously lucky, that the 6 gods have blessed me for my good looks or I was born with a lucky horseshoe up my …er round my neck. Even if I didn’t get those drops and had to use the crests to buy the 2 extra glove boxes, it would still leave me with over 2k crests I don’t know what to do with.

Sounds like we are getting a Marionette type raid.
I like the idea of a collapsible/expandable section of the account wallet for zone or event specific currencies.
Maybe do the same thing for the collectibles section of the bank, any mats that are event specific should go there with collapse/expand function to view.
If all you want to play is WvW, you can progress your character and make it very powerful with World Experience (aka wxp):
It started with a double mesmer team that use to offer a taxi service to the top of the Obsidian Sanctum JP, way back when that was the only way to get siege blueprints
They are not obtainable atm, but that_shaman on reddit did datamine the codes so they should be added to the game at some point.

Yes, they are gorgeous
There’s a thin scarf off the light Glorious Crown for humans, also a scarf off the light Whisper’s chest for male humans. Not sure of any others.
No – profit/skill point is referring to the gold you can make from skill points as currency.
You continue to earn skill points in a number of ways.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skill_point#Acquisition
And can use them to buy crafting components from Miyani.
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Skill_point#Crafting
Those components can be used to make a variety of things, from upgrades to siege blueprints to material promotions to rare weapon skins. Click through on the previous link to see all the recipes for each component.
So say I want to make a cool looking weapon and sell it for profit, something like:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Abyssal_Scepter
The difference between the materials cost and the selling price less TP fees, then divided by the number of skill points required to make the item would be considered the profit per skill point. You are basically selling your experience to other players.
Now I will caution you to watch these markets to make sure you understand them before you go investing a bunch of mats into crafting something, because even though some of those skins have a great profit margin they don’t sell very well. Here’s a great place to look at trading post histories for each item:

Although there was that SAB item datamined from Tuesday’s patch…

I’ve made 7 precursors in the mystic forge. Kept Spark, sold the others, made Incinerator.
Friend got one from TA, another friend got one from Scarlet Invasion events, another guy I know got one in WvW from killing a necromancer in the borderlands. Hearing lots of chatter about them dropping from the boss event bags in the new zone.
Did you notice that the expanded map is on the carpet in the library?
There’s a rather extensive discussion on reddit about it:

Love. Love, love love this chapter
I just finished the Glint’s Lair instance and man, it was beautiful and it was hard and I died so much but I finally beat it and it was wonderful. Took so many screenshots.
And the new zone is simply amazing. Thanks to all who contributed, players and devs alike – you’ve all together created a spectacular experience <3
Click the small down arrow on the active chat tab header to set your options. A check box is there for Game Messages. Been there since launch I believe

Fun fact: Those 137 million ToT bags would have dropped over 1.3 billion pieces of Candy Corn. There’s currently only 5.5 million on the TP.
Most players have no clue how vast this economy is.
Last week ArenaNet posted on twitter that 137,944,233 Trick or Treat bags had dropped so far. That would be about 2.7 million Shiny Foil Candy Wrappers if all those bags were opened (there’s only ~100k bags on the TP, but who knows how many players have stockpiled, plus all the bags that dropped over the weekend).
If I had to guess, I’d say at least 4 million entries. It is indeed a raffle, one of the german devs posted details:
