Just adding my two cents, to say that it WOULD be nice if AN communicated more with the community in general. It would be really good to know exactly what they’re currently working on and what plans they have for the game, and I’d like to hear some of their reasoning behind some of the changes they make to the game, why they did this and that. I think that might go a long way towards mitigating the popular perception that they often slap together “fixes” in a rather haphazard manner. Even just quicker posted and more informative patch notes would be a beginning. I can honestly say that I don’t think I’ve ever played an MMO that seems so cavalier about patch notes. They’ll typically make mention of one or two changes they made, while in reality they made a dozen.
Colin Johanson just posted this today.

I have the hat. But…do you have the white t-shirt with red logo? Do you? O.O
I have the hat but I do not have the t-shirt.

Hey guys,
Just to help provide some clarity on this, we’ll be releasing within the next couple of weeks a high level summary of our big plans for the first half of 2013 to help provide more transparency into our plans with the game going forward. This will include providing more details about our goals for the game, information about the stories and features that you’ll see in the Jan/Feb/March releases.
To set expectations accordingly, the January release will be a relatively small release that sets the table for the stories and features we plan to roll out with the Feb/March releases and beyond. Also, there will be no new race, profession, or new region with these larger Feb/March releases. One of our major goals with these releases is making our existing world as strong as possible, ensuring there are reasons to go to all the locations in the world we’ve already built, and strengthening the core game we’ve provided. In saying this will be an expansions worth of stuff in these releases, we’re talking about the number of new features that will be rolled out across PvE, WvW, and PvP in early 2013, which usually you’d only find in an expansion for a traditional MMORPG.
More details and specifics to come in the next couple of weeks, but I hope that helps provide some more insight into what to expect at a very high level.
Glad to hear this, sounds like you folks are on the right track
Love it!
Thanks for keeping things fresh
I love when players like this expose themselves so I can add them to my block list
I know they said there would be 2 big updates for January and February, equaling out to what they said would be an expansion worth of free content, but no news as to what it will contain.
Source on this? I’d like to know this to be true.
Here it is, it was discussed in an interview with Gaming Bolt.
So what is an exploit, case in point, I log into the game, go to the AH buy a yellow for lower than the price of an ecto and salvage it. I get lucky and get two ectos back, selling them both nets me enough money for two more yellows, which once again I get lucky with and earn four more ectos?
Is this an exploit? It seems normal to me, but given the twaddle handed out by Anet over this, how can we be sure?
If you got the insignia back as well, then yes, it would be an exploit.
People were using the exploit as a pure ecto printing machine. So much so that it affected the global market. Look at the 1 month to see the effect:
http://www.gw2spidy.com/item/19721
ANet’s post on /reddit:
“Guys, this was an exploit — pure and simple. The terminated accounts were connected to the most egregious levels of abuse. The User Agreement and the Rules of Conduct are on our legal page. You can read them if you’re not sure how things work. More informative, maybe, is the Conducts Breaches and Outcomes document. (all off of this page: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/legal/)
Add it all together — the rules and the fact this impacts the whole game — then consider the forgiveness shown in an earlier instance of exploitation and get on board with the fact that it was wrong, the worst offenders lost their accounts, and that’s all pretty straightforward and as it should be."
Egregious. Not some kid that got a couple ectos. Egregious.
I’ve played just about every day since the game launched and it just keeps getting better and better.
Best MMO I’ve ever played.
Not because I’m concerned that someone will look at my gear and judge my min/maxing or anything like that.
Because not having an Inspect Player feature paves the way to conversations between players.
You see someone, they have an interesting weapon you haven’t seen before or a spectacular helm, or any of their gear and what do you do? You ask.
Great scepter. Do you mind linking it?
Where did you get it?
What color dye are you using on your boots?
And people are open. They love to tell you where they got it, what they had to farm to make it, how they matched the dye on their chest piece to the jewel on their sword or whatever.
The great thing about being part of the GW2 experience is the community. Hand down the best gaming community I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing with. We are all learning together, all the systems, the best ways to do things, where to find the finest items.
Not having an Inspect feature was a brilliant decision by the makers of the game, it meshes perfectly with all the other design decisions (like node sharing/no mob tagging) that builds a great community.
I think this player was pulling your leg.
Here is a post from the devs on /reddit which clearly states under what circumstances accounts recieve suspensions for inappropriate names/language.

It’s quite amusing
The game is still young. As it continues to add MORE FREE CONTENT and MORE FEATURES each and every month FOR FREE, it’s going to be (as Angry Joe said) the nail in the coffin for paid subscription models.
Gota love content people. Tell them the word and they go “OMG WE’RE GETTING CONTENT!”
“Don’t you wan’t to know what it is?”
“CONTENT CONTENT CONTENT”The game is dull, boring and dry. They can throw a few more useless spells, introduce a few more generic zones — who cares if its free, its still crap.
To quote Lord Faren: “Speak for yourself chum!”
I’m having a blast and I can’t wait to see more content especially in form of new zones.
I’m wondering if we will get new zones with the January and February patches.
They did say that we would be getting as much as an expac’s worth of content in those 2 months.
I’ve never seen that before, looks amazing!
The quality of the tool varies with your level when you acquire it or with the level of the mission where you acquire it.
I can confirm this.
Yes it’s the lvl 30 dungeon in the charr starting zone.
Level 35 for explorable mode (the mode that gives dungeon tokens – 3 different paths)
Same with Sanctum of Rall.
Overflow servers at 8am PST.
Hundreds of people in zones everywhere.
Queues for WvW in primetime.Busiest MMO I’ve ever seen.
Overflow in Lions Arch during holiday event? :O Praise Balthazar.
Overflow everyday in Lion’s Arch. Holiday or not. Been that way for MONTHS
Your “the game is dead” posts would be better served on the forums of another game….one that has a subscription and hundreds of dead servers maybe?
Overflows in Lion’s Arch. There’s proof the game is active!
Oh here we go
You seem to think that the people in Lion’s Arch don’t count because they are in Lion’s Arch?
Or the people in WvW don’t count because they are in WvW?
Or the people at dragon events don’t count because those events have chests?
Or the people in dungeons don’t count because they are in dungeons?
Or the people that you run into everywhere in jumping puzzles don’t count because?
Sure, there are some zones that don’t have a ton of activity because they don’t have major events or events that are on a predictable timer. I went to Gendarran Fields yesterday to pick up something from a heart vendor and thought, hmm – seems a bit slow here today. As I was running along I saw this large rock formation growing and swirling out of the ground, these 2 large fire/rock dogs spawned and before you know it 25 people appeared from out of nowhere to take them down along with the Champion Centaur that came after the dogs. It was an epic meta event that awarded a chest. The other players dispersed after the event and things were quiet again.
We will never see 2 million people packed into 5 zones like we did at launch. But to have this kind of traffic where we are hitting overflows at 8 in the morning 4 months after launch is unheard of. The game is doing great
I did 3 ive done before and got credit for all 3.
Btw, you don’t need to complete, just discover the entrance.
Same with Sanctum of Rall.

Every Very High – Full world I’ve tried have been near enough dead.
Stormbluff Isle
Sanctum of Rall
Blackgate
Crystal Desert
Gandara
DesolationList goes on, so I can imagine what other worlds are like.
Tarnished Coast is apparently busy, but that’s role players.
Won’t last as long as GW1 did.
Sorry to burst your bubble but Gandara is doing fine. Even the 1-15 zones are full of people, tried Caledon Forest recently? Queensdale? Maybe Wayfarer Foothills? All of them full. Also, higher level zones are as busy as ever, from zones like Dredgehaunt Cliffs, Iron Marches and Mount Maelstrom to the “regular” ones like Frostgorge and Cursed Shore there are always people around doing events, I find it very nice that I can around and do events with lots of people instead of soloing them, as lots of people think it happens in the game. Try playing the game for a while, then come and post again

Another good one to see the armors on the various races:
I kinda agree with the OP here. I was so hyped up for the game, even pre-ordered the game for 3 day head start. The no trinity sounds promising, and all classes can range/melee sounds cool as well.
But after playing I find that the no trinity and all classes can do everything makes everything homogeneous. The world bosses and dungeons are just a gankfest. And there aren’t any real gear upgrades at level 80, so you’ve experienced the content once there’s really no point of keep grinding the dungeons. Theres no satisfaction of getting more powerful as you keep playing like most rpgs.
This is a cool game and I do want it to keep going. I’ve stopped playing a while ago and now getting back to check it out. But I just don’t find any incentive to play. I dunno about other people but running around the map or spending hours collecting and grinding for a gear that only looks better isn’t gonna cut it for me.
Maybe Anet did not want to create a game where you have to grind dungeons over and over again. Maybe they wanted to aim their game at a playerbase who hates dungeongrinding….like me! I always hated grinding dungeons in WoW (because I think it’s the most pointless thing ever) and I’m so glad I don’t have to grind dungeons in Gw2 anymore.
If you enjoy grinding dungeons (and you have every right to enjoy that, it’s personal preference afterall) why don’t you play that other MMO who offers that?So many people on this forums who don’t realize that Anet wants to be different instead of copying the same principles over and over again.
In light of both the critical and popular acclaim GW2 has recieved, you are in the majority.
I LOVE that my legendary will always be legendary (once I get it haha), that it won’t be replaced on the very next content patch. Now that was a pointless waste of time if ever I saw one!
Ironically I don’t care for the noobie skirt. Felt like my tushie was hanging out, couldn’t wait to replace it, lol.
Game is going to be around for years to come! Big updates already with huge ones to come shortly. My server is packed to the rim with people. From the low zones to the high. Game keeps getting better and better and it seems more and more people are coming.
Big updates already? Which ones? Holiday events don’t count as they are only around for a couple weeks if that.
Both The Shadow of the Mad King patch and the Lost Shores patch brought new permanent content to the game outside of holiday activities.
The January and February patch together will be an expac worth of content. Free I might add.
Mad King is halloween.
It is indeed. We also got a ton of permanent content with that patch that stayed in the game after the holday event including over 50 dynamic events, the Skritt Burglar, mini-dungeons, Modus Sceleris, jumping puzzles, a new mini-game, and a bunch of achievements, new mats, recipes, skins, town clothes, etc.
(edited by Karizee.8076)
Sometimes I wish I had a pair of virtual scissors to cut off the back of the skirt so that it matches the front.
I don’t know why it bugs me but it does, lol. LOVE the front, want scissors everytime I see the back.
Pixelated scissors to go with the dye options, hmm?

Happy New Year to all my fellow Tyrians, realmies and enemies alike. Thanks and grats to ArenaNet for a fantastic first year and wishes for continued success.
2013 is going to be a FABULOUS year!
Terribly sorry to hear your guild failed. Maybe you should join an active one?
Mine is doing great. 60-100 people logged on at any given time, generally up to 250 people a day (btw, you can check the daily logins under the transaction tab on the guild pane)
We run dungeons, do some WvW, lots of events, and people working on their legendaries. I can’t hardly keep up with gchat these days.

Absolutely. Got the money right here /pats pocket
Still a ton of story left in this one that I’m looking forward to first
Looks like they may be rolling out an expac end of 2013 according to that report by Daewoo – sounds like good timing to me.
There’s been a few times where I’ve earned an achievement, but due to being busy with mobs I missed what the achievement was. This left me looking through my achievement tab trying to figure out what I had before vs. what I have now.
My suggestions is that we have a section in our Achievement tab with the achievements ordered by date recieved. That way I can look at them and get that nice fuzzy feeling of “Nice, I finally earned this!”, rather than “What just happened?”
Overall the game is outstanding, this is a minor suggestion for a QoL improvement for us achievement hunters
Not only do they put distinct music in each city/zone, they also give us holiday music. Not just one theme either, there are distinct songs of amazing quality for each holiday activity.

I wonder why we need an AMA since we have a whole forum dedicated to GW2 and it’s fans / people who play the game. Couldn’t they just answer questions here in the forums in the time they would do the AMA? Or is it the kind of “upvoting” a question thing that is important for the devs? Then I would ask: wouldn’t it be possible to include such a option in the forums here?
Reddit is a better option for an AMA, each question has a reply directly underneath it rather than a question being asked on page 2 and the answer being on page 5 of a thread. If they tried to do an AMA on a forum thread it would be a disorganized mess. To turn the whole forum into an AMA defeats the purpose of the forum.
The up and down voting is an added bonus as well, questions that the most people care about get the most upvotes, superfluous or trolling posts get downvoted and things people don’t care about one way or another don’t garner any votes.
They said they would conduct an AMA after the holidays, maybe later this week or next week I would think.
That post is from 2010…
What do you think? I’m having a hard time deciding whether or not it would be good to remove rallying from the game.
By whose authority would you make that decision? j/k
Personally, I love the rally. Makes combat more exciting, gives that edge of barely making it to jumping up with that glow – nice addition to the game.
Try using gw2lfg.com, it’s what everyone that doesn’t have a dedicated group is doing these days.
Check this post, they are doing restorations for any account compromised after 12/1/2012
My guild did it last night. It was already in progress the first time through and the event failed, so we went back to the bubble and farmed around there until the NPC was ready again.
Got it on the 2nd try.
You have witnessed a dynamic event in the living, breathing world of Tyria.
You might run by a village at one point in time to find it a bustling, thriving place.
Go by it later and find it overrun by enemies.
Even later (if you did not defend) and find it burnt to the ground.
Busting at the seams on my server.
Hitting overflow at 8am PST. How many other MMOs have this kind of traffic?
If new expansion hits in 2-3 months… then there is no point in me working towards making a legendary.
New expansion = new legendaries, new and fresh is always cooler, people want what most people dont have, they want to stand out.
So basically for 99% of players we might as well give up on our legendaries until the next expansion.
I think you have it confused with other games where your legendary becomes obsolete at expac.
Your legendary will always be BIS here in GW2.
http://www.gamebreaker.tv/mmorpg/guild-wars-2-expansion-predicted/
This doesn’t make it fact but this firm also predicted we’d get a launch date 3 weeks before we actually did get one so they have SOME credibility.
I believe that firm is saying sometime in the 2nd half 2013 (which would put an expac 6-12 months out)
Oops, my mistake. It was a blog, not an interview.
Here is the link:
https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/chris-whiteside-on-the-lost-shores-and-beyond/
You’ll be glad to hear then that they discussed this in a recent interview and are currently reworking the dungeons.
I believe the reworked dungeons are coming with the January patch
If you get stumped, here is a map that you can reference
Karma vendor:
Being on your home server is great for when people are announcing in map chat that they are putting together a group for specific event (say a Balthazar run) or if someone pops in from WvW saying they need peeps to take a certain objective.
Being on an overflow server is good for putting together dungeon groups since you can do those x-realm.
I recently leveled Weaponsmithing – cost 2g after I sold the weapons using this guide.
http://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/15den2/dynamic_crafting_guide_with_suggestions_to_buy/
Has dynamic links to TP prices.
Because of WvW it would be exploitable to have toons on other servers.
However, you can transfer servers free once every 7 days.
More town outfits would be great
The only time I hesitate to jump in and help kill mobs is when I’m in a starter zone just because at 80, even downscaled, I pretty much demolish them before other players get a chance to get a couple hits in.
That is unless they want my help or it looks like they are struggling with taking down a Champion or doing a difficult skill point, then I jump in to help
