This is one part I think that Blizzard balance fairly well in WoW, they made gear(stats) fairly reasonable to obtain with some effort, but some vanity items for example like some special mounts (strat UD mount) had like 0.1% drop rate but people in general was still okay with it and would mindlessly grind for it.

You’ve got to be joking.

Take an OP trinket, give it a miniscule drop rate and put it on a ginormous loot table, then hope the Raid Leader, Guild Master, Loot Council, Ninja Looter or heaven forbid another layer of RNG with rolling for the darn thing doesn’t get it first. Then lock the instance so you can only run it once per week for extra special fun!

All it did is if you were lucky one tier and got the drop, you were “good” that season. If you were unlucky, you couldn’t get on a decent RBG team or in a decent raiding guild – you “sucked”.

Blizzard’s system is terrible, the GW2 fans know it and laugh when you say it’s better. Go home, blizzdrone, you can quit trying to sell WoW here, we don’t want any

A better indication of how well the game is doing:

http://www.guildwarstrade.com/gems

Both volume and price steadily increasing. The game is doing great

Actually that means nothing.

First of all it is known that the price is not purely supply/demand but Anet actually influence the price as they have said themselves.

A rise of silver cost for gems and higher prices on the TP means that people can buy less gems with gold. That means it encourages people to buy them with real money rather than in game gold.

So, if anything, you can conclude Anet is encouraging people spending real money. That would mean to me they need more cash, so perhaps this actually means the game is not doing so well.

The sheer volume increase says otherwise.

Where do you see volume in that graph? I see only price, and since it’s based on ingame observation i don’t even know how would they estimate volume.
Seeing price change we can guess several things:
- it is possible that the supply went down. There are less people buying gems with real money and exchanging them for cash (that is relatively bad – less real money income), or
- demand went up – people buy more gems for in-game cash (that’s also not good – might mean they buy less for real life cash), or
- anet intervened to increase prices. That’s also not good, because it suggests they want to encourage buying gems for real cash more (perhaps because they need more income)
Lot of suggestions and guesses here, no hard facts, but on the whole it doesn’t look as good as you suggest.

Also, there still will be gem spikes on events and sales (and we have black friday coming up). That doesn’t tells us about the general tendencies.

http://www.guildwarstrade.com/gems

The top line is price.
The bottom graph is volume.

Volume has doubled in the last month.

Trust me, GW 2 is in serious trouble its just alot of people are in-denial. My guild has saw many people quit since launch, we’re talking 50+ people quit the game and some of these was fanboys from beta weekends.

My guild is doing great – at this moment 9:51am PST on a holiday there are 53 people on.

Your guild failing is in no way an indication of the health of the game.

Likelihood of constant Lion's Arch overflow?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

I think you have to consider that even casual dungeon-runners had exhausted what they wanted from the older dungeons. I was doing them for fun, not the gear.

^^This

Also, overflow LA is still the best place to form a pug group outside a guild so having a few minutes there isn’t a big deal. You can choose to stay in overflow or travel to your home server or even put yourself back in the queue for the next time a spot opens on your home server.

It generally doesn’t last that long since so many people are passing through quickly (form a group/go to dungeon, go to the Mists/take asura portal to new zone).

Karizee.8076

I do too!

I rolled a new toon last night, my first Norn. Leveling through Wayfarer Hills I am blown away by the detail, my toon leaves footprints in the snow that slowly fill as the snow falls. The ambient sounds of snow plop plopping off of roofs. The sheer number of friendly, helpful players – this game has the best community of any MMO I’ve seen.

I see a couple technical issues with the game, namely player culling during big events or in areas with ginormous amounts of players like Lion’s Arch or WvW. Some QoL things could be added like a preview function in the Trading Post. But they’ve stated they are working on these things, I’m more than willing to be patient, they haven’t let me down yet and I simply love this game.

Dear gamers, please don't ruin this for me.

Most of the opinions expressed on the forums are pure sabotage, nothing more, and mostly the same players posting copious amounts and trying to push the agenda of another MMO. You can safely ignore it.

This is a good example of a player having a stroke of conspiracy theory, while I’m sure no Arenanet dev actually believes this to be true…

Please stop thinking most players complain because of another game.
They complain because of THIS game.

When you see posters with 9 pages of “I hate ANet because _______ and going to resub to _______” making a mess all over the forums it’s pretty easy to see.

The second reason why I slowly stopped playing that game, and my main point of this post, is that the community told me not to like it!

That seems kind of silly in my view. Would you let people tell you not to love your significant other?

If you love the game, play it with other people that love it – and there are LOTS of us, servers are busting at the seams with players that love the game

Or 2 rehashed dungeons for 8 months. Zul’Aman, Zul’Gurub anyone?

Of COURSE everyone is running the new dungeon. It’s our first new dungeon since the game launched. Do you really expect people to run the same dungeons we had at launch forever?

Plus it’s wonderfully fun, epic and a downright revolutionary concept in dungeon running. 9 mini-dungeons in one with a world boss, escalating difficulty. Good stuff

One fractal level consists of 3 mini dungeons, you must complete all 3 to be eligible to enter the next fractal level.

Every other fractal (even numbered fractals) has a world boss, the Jade Maw, so on even number fractals there are 4 mini dungeons.

The only way to see your level that I know of is to try to enter the portal to the dungeon, you will get a pop-up message that tells you what level you are eligible for. You don’t need to be in a group to do that.

Loving the new Dungeon, one concern

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

Karizee.8076

Oh, yea second hand information had the dungeons reset every week. So basically since I didn’t jump right in at the start I’m doomed to wait out for alts. It may be I will eventually find a group for level1 but so far its been frustrating to say the least. What concerns me a little more is that this may be the gateway dungeon for the next dungeon they implement. I’ll roll with what ever they throw at me, I just wish they had implemented it a little different I guess.

It seems there are a couple people that share your concern, maybe you folks should group together?

Lion’s Arch overflow is your best bet for finding random groups for any level.
Joining a guild is great too.

I think we have a bit of a meta game going on right now, people are pushing as hard as they can to see how deep into the fractals they can go. Once they start hitting a wall, they’ll start running their alts through.

They will only be free until ArenaNet implements the guesting feature. No date yet on that.

At that time xfer fees will be based on the target realm population, if you were to purchase the gems with cash it is something like $20 for a high server and $6 for a low server. You could also purchase the gems to transfer with ingame gold.

Also the fee will include all of your toons, you transfer your entire account.

I really cant see why anyone would bother with Guildwars 2 treadmill when WoW treadmill works better…

You’ve got to be joking.
In WoW, not only do you have grind and RNG, you get to top it off with a Raid Leader, Guild Master, Loot Council, or Ninja Looter that determines whether you even get a chance at the gear.

It’s dreadful.

GW2 is miles ahead of WoW in this respect and so many others.

Actually he has a point. WoW treadmill items are at least innovative with what effects the armor sets do.

Not $180 a year innovative effects.

That’s IF you even get it after the RNG, Raid Leader, Guild Master, Loot Council, and Ninja Looter have had their first shot at it. Let’s not forget you only get this lovely chance at a chance once a week.

You have to be a masochist to play that game.
There’s a reason that GW2’s popularity is soaring.

It’s called forum sabatoge.

A certain big name game that is feeling very threatened by GW2’s popularity certainly has the budget to buy a few games and pay a couple peeps to go gamebashing on their forums.

My advice is to ignore it and focus on the game you love with the other millions of people loving it.

A weekend about loot... what did we learn?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Karizee.8076

This thread is about the changes to the game made this weekend. A serious focus of them was loot, every piece of content added had a considerable loot factor to it, the high end market was turned on it’s head and the most controversial topic the game has faced was about loot. There are plenty of threads about the Lost Shores for you to post in. While it was a factor in the loot theme this weekend, it wasn’t the only one (or even the main one). Please try to stay on topic, if you want to talk about Lost Shores content, please focus on the loot aspects of it, not the DEs of the Lost Shores.

Maybe you should change the title of topic then to something like “My focus on loot this weekend” or “Loot aspects of the weekend event”.

Today’s event was about discovering a new zone.

We held the enemy at bay while NPCs cleared forests, erected defenses, built new bases and waypoints before our very eyes. We saw bridges being constructed to new areas while we held off wave after wave of enemies, pushing the line of scrimmage deeper into this untamed wild land.

We had to actively help create this new zone, it was not just sitting there waiting for us.

Those whose focus is loot only will only see loot from the event.
The rest of us partook in an epic adventure and saw Tyria change in front of our very eyes.
