Can I mention Game of Thrones here? Dont want to get sued for breach of copyright. Anyway although its a violent, bloody, gruesome TV series, some scenes are not fully depicted such as Theon Greyjoy’s mutilation and castration. Its not as if children are allowed to watch GOT, HBO knows that these scenes would be a big turn off for their adult viewers.

Sorry for going off topic here, I just don’t get violent games that are NOT over the top violent for comedic or horror effect, like the Hitman series for example. One could argue that that COD is not as violent as Age of Conan etc gorefests. I play War of the Roses a medieval hack and slash that features some blood and decapitations but they arent realistic at all and if the gore was amped up to realistic levels, I would never play the game at all. So in short, I would have to say that I personally feel that excessive gore and violence does detract from my gaming experience.

Some people enjoy realistic gore regardless of their age so how is that a deterrent factor at all. Is there some kind of spy program that monitors people and their proclivities so as to detect disturbed individuals via the games they play?

I’m sorry, but how is that relevant? Yes, some people like gore…. And? I’m not sure how that’s relevant to anything. If it was in the game, some people would enjoy it…? …And? …Good for them I guess?

You said kids not seeing realistic gore as a result of a violent act may result in kids actually committing them in RL. I replied by asking what if they enjoyed gore and are not repulsed by it at all and followed up by asking if the authorities had a spy program in place to monitor if people of any age were inclined towards sadistic video games and had sadistic tendencies in RL, so as to preempt any sort of attacks on the community in RL.

Yet limbs dont get severed, skulls don’t smashed in, no big spurting blood pools everywhere you see. Its just not realistic enough. Some kids might imagine that Greatswords shoot lasers in real life. Think of the children. Dont let them turn into pansies who will faint at the sight of a RL maiming/torture/murder.

Let’s put it this way: I hope you realize the incoherence, if not the potential inherent danger, in letting a kid see people violently attack each other, but fervently denying them the result of said violent.

I know this is hardly scientific (I hope to run a test on that one day, if I get the chance to, or maybe find some studies on it), but have you ever noticed how when a kid pics up a gun and shoots another kid because of a cartoon they saw, it’s usually one of those cartoons with no blood or anything, where a bullet is little more than a punch to the gut? The disassociation between cause and effect seems, to my trained eye, more dangerous than the base knowledge that there is such a thing as violence – they know. They’re young, not stupid.

Some people enjoy realistic gore regardless of their age so how is that a deterrent factor at all. Is there some kind of spy program that monitors people and their proclivities so as to detect disturbed individuals via the games they play?

Most people I know playing have kids, so I think they would not want to have their kids see blood while mommy/daddy is enjoying their private gaming hour. :-)

Of course not. Seeing people get hacked with swords, axes and daggers, being set on fire and smashed with hammers… that’s fine. It’s the blood that causes the emotional trauma. Really. Lesson learned kids: You can shoot someone in real life, just avoid the blood!

I’ll never forget that one idiot a few years ago, asking for a “no blood” mod for CS so he could play it with his 9 year old girl at peace. Stabbing and shooting daddy in the face is just dandy, just no blood! God forbid we realize that the perfectly ordinary liquid that keeps up alive is bound to spill from our bodies if we puncture them.

I wonder what kind of hysterics do some people go through whenever they get a tiny cut that bleeds a bit.

No idea why this is apparently so difficult to introduce into the game. I don’t think my father, the inventor of toaster strudel, would be pleased to hear about this.

The most likely reason is that the devs found a particular build in PVP that would be OP in full Valkryie gear.

What I have just described is one of the most unsatisfying boss fights I have ever played.

I am pretty sure its THE worst FINAL boss fight I ever played in any game. Strangely the rest of story dungeon modes bosses are not that bad, in fact they are (mostly) much more interesting than the explorer mode ones.

Anet can make it up to us by retconning the death of Zhaitan into a serious injury instead and throw in a Japanese game inspired final encounter. I mean the SAB designers were so inspired by the games of their youth I am pretty sure they understand what makes an epic fight in a video game, instead of throwing together a few 16 bit levels.

It is entirely true, and I don’t see what how your anecdote of the durian challenges that. There are many, many foods that I initially didn’t like but after a few times of trying them something clicked and I started loving them.

I think for most people, people tend to be more picky / selective as they grow older as to what they eat. But thats just me. Maybe if your city happens to have an Asian market that sells durian nearby, you can learn to appreciate it, not sure if your other family / friends would be able to tolerate the odor though. But hey I wouldn’t be offended in the slightest if you don’t like durians as I am not in the fruit industry.

Look I am not slamming European fine dining at all. I didn’t say it tasted bad but its simply that I would not enjoy the meal regardless of whether it was free or not. Dessert is a different matter though.

Food does not taste different the second time round but I am sure this experience does not apply to art for example.

Khal Drogo.9631

Well, you realize that you have to develop a taste right? It usually requires eating something new a few times before you really start to dig it. That’s why kids tend to be very picky eaters and people expand their palette as they age.

And besides, if you complained about it then it actually would be called complaining. How many people never get treated to nice meals?

I wish this was even remotely true. You know about a fruit called the durian? Some people find it pungent to the point that it is repulsive and my government has actually made it illegal to bring them into public transport in order not to offend tourists (mostly). I never had a problem with it at all even the first time I had it.

Locals constantly amuse ourselves to the facial responses of the people (both children and adults) who are unaccustomed to the fruit. Some may enjoy it eventually as an acquired taste but I believe some would never want to try it again. Unlike others, we are not so sensitive to be offended if that was the case.

Why ask questions you already know the answers to? Personally, I think this poll is nigh-meaningless, as there is already quite a bit of consensus in what is worse off than the rest, pre- and -post patch.

Because everyone’s opinion is different than yours, mine and his.

I think the balance team is waiting for that 1% validation that ranger isn’t the worst dungeon class.

AC will probably never be good again

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

This is it. AC did not get harder, just a little bit more interesting. Of course, since most people want to do all stuff while being braindead, it might be more empty now, but that’s nothing bad.

Everyone’s definition of interesting is really different. You mean zapping globs and pulling them into a cannon isn’t “braindead” and fun? I really can’t think of a game genre that remotely resembles this mechanic. I would rather do housework.

I really wonder why some players (and not some game designers defending their work) feel that new AC is such a fantastic new challenge for them. They say its not more difficult, then go with guildies for ice bow/stack to win, and say they love the new dungeon then never do the dungeon again after they got all the tokens they wanted.

AR is hard with PUGs but no one said wow its so buggy (no wait … at least not as buggy as AC) but its certainly not boring until the last fight which becomes a snooze-fest in a guild party and teeth-grinding frustration in an uncoordinated PUG party.

AC will probably never be good again

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

Of course. But that is because said organized group communicates. If they would not communicate (and said group had not ran the dungeon in question together several times before) they would not really faceroll content.
They are “working” for it by communicating and learning how to do stuff together.
The main issue at the moment is that most dungeons don’t require any communication at all.

No not really, I don’t even really need to ,,communicate" at all with my guildies at all; I just follow them. Same thing with pugs really. Its because I have had prior experience with the dungeon in question its only a slight variance in the places to stack and if any .. err .. shortcuts exists. I never knew that a certain boss can be perma knocked down for example and have been doing it the “legit” way which probably took a few minutes longer.

Khal Drogo.9631

As you could read above it is not about me and how i handle dungeon :-) Finding group in 5 minutes on LFG is possible like for every other dungeon, but compare it with pre-patch AC.
You may like changes and i admit they have sence, but it really drove most people out of this dungeon. What will happen if they will change every dungeon this way?
I just try look in to the future. AC can serve as example how people react. They say we love this and after few months the dungeon is totaly empty. I dont think those 5 groups across whole europe on lfg can be considered as ,,full dungeon".
If changing one dungeon to require more coordination can hurt its population so much what can changing every dungeon do with population of whole game?
They uncompromisingly rewrite dungeon and result is empty dungeon. No matter changes are good or fun the result is bad.

Its not because of a lack of coordination that people don’t do AC P2. It is the chance that Detha bugs out and just annoying ghostbuster gun mechanics that simply isnt fun and wastes time.

As for 5 min finding a group, its usually like 10 minutes because by the time I tabbed back to GW2 the party is full. If I put up a LFG notice, it will be duly ignored. As for AC, its a fact no one wants to do anymore. At this point in time, it isnt because of buggy mechanics, annoying CC spam or inexplicable frame lags but its because everyone got what they needed and only do COF to farm gold. One can only conclude that in attempt to appease the ,,elitists", Mr Hrouda satisfied no one and wasted his design team’s time.

Stop feeding the ,,troll".

And yet the dungeons were supposed to be there for organized groups.
95% of the game is completely possible to do for even “bad” players without every talking to anyone at all, and yet people gets crazy when the little things that is supposed to require some communications starts to actually require communication.

Why do people feel the need that they should be able to do every single thing in the game without thinking or working for it?

Organized groups make content faceroll, not exactly “working” for it. Which is in fact why elitist players should be forced to PUG if that was possible so that they stop QQing about how easy dungeons are.

In fact in guild parties ppl dont communicate about tactics but just general chitchat. Not me though I have problems with typing as it is.

More often than not, it is not about communication it is more about playing with people who are just in PUGs to be trolling ,,kittenhats" or stubborn noobs who insist on doing things their way. Then again there are just general disagreement about tactics like in AR.

I should probably list the bad habits of bad pugs:
1) All Like to rez the same guy at the same time and no one kites.

Instead of just defiant stacks how about a percent chance the CC will take effect?

Would be pointless. You can use berseker for everything because no boss has any relevant attack that cannot be dodged. If no boss has any relevant attack that cannot be dodged, there’s nothing worth interrupting. If there’s nothing worth interrupting, between wasting time with crowd control or just doing more damage, it’s always better to do more damage.

Dodge? Never heard of it. 10s Boss kills btw. And HOTW is so boring ….
