Oh yeah, these videos. Apart from the inaccessible camera angles and the highly orchestrated scenarios, I’m seeing certain skills being used back to back to make the combat seem like something it isn’t. This game taught me one thing, don’t pre-order.

I was happy with the early access and that new game feeling of leveling your chars in an MMO environment with the naive notion that it was beta only for a few weeks then everything from class balance to bug fixes will be largely polished and stabilized in a few months, like what happens in most AAA published games.

I was wrong.

I would pay real money to play the game shown in these videos. Is there any chance that it will happen? Perhaps a crowdfunding effort via Kickstarter?

That is if only GW2 is the last game in the GW universe and the devs have moved on. I wonder what GW3 would be like 9 years from now.

I just laugh at some of these forum people. Really, nowadays if you buy a console game, you might get 60 hours of play out of it, if its good. If you’re unlucky, or you own a Wii, it’ll be 15. A game that has multiplayer value, achievements, creativity, you might get a little more out of. This game lasts way beyond most, if you’ve seriously beat the game and done everything, you’ve probably played 2000 hours. What more do you expect out of a game?

Not much – how about 1) not changing the fundamentals of the game such as class balance every month.
2) Not introducing ridiculous gear grind
3) Stop dreaming about ESport. Never going to happen
4) Making more fun good looking PVE content which made Year One a success.
5) Going into forums expecting real discussion about the game and not getting astroturf.

If the game is as bad as you all make it out to be for this past year or so, then I must wonder what you’re doing still here.

Oh that’s right, it’s not as bad as you make it out to be.

Seems to be the same people, over and over again. If you quit a game, quit it’s forums too.

Don’t get the hostility for negative post =.=.

That’s all you seem to post :P

Yeah, I’ve quit games from WAR to Aion to Rift. I posted a lot on the forums too. I don’t make drastic statements threatening to quit or try to drag others with me. I just stop posting and don’t bother playing.

Sure, by all means make a thread that lists why you don’t find it fun anymore and what the devs should do. But complaining without offering a solution isn’t really helpful at all.

I don’t play more than 10 minutes a week anymore, but I still post here because I WANT this game to be good. It had more potential then any game I have seen in a long time, unfortunately it is being slowly drained of life by awful grinds, ridiculous “stories”, and temporary content.

I mean look at this latest patch… does anyone really believe that with 2 months of work by a living story team all we get is rehashed content with like literally 2 minutes of new content… if that seriously took a whole living story team 3 months then we may be at the point of no return.

What can you play with 10 mins per week in GW2?

1) Mine 10 Ori Nodes with alts?
2) One Mini Game such as Keg Brawl?
3) Complete 1 to 2 daily quests?
4) One match of SPVP?

You are missing out on a lot of AP, Ascended weapon daily crafts and mining daily crystals.

Oh I’m sure the devs are ‘listening’ to you. But does that mean they are going to make changes? Of course not.

They’ll have open ears, but they’ll never fully commit to an action unless its reasonable and suitable for this game.

Just cause you and thousands others are complaining about one feature doesn’t mean they are going to follow through with a solution.

Thus I and thousands others stopped playing. The End. Hope I dont get infracted for posting a reply comment.

If you missed some of the dungeons like Aetherblades and Molten Alliance, sorry you are NEVER going to play it again.

If I am not mistaken SAB will make its return soon for people Hoping for it.

So far since ascended weapon rollout I dont think I have missed anything fun, feel free to correct me.

Says who? Its very likely that those dungeons will make a return, in any way shape or form (fractals maybe).

I think SAB (super adventure box) will come back periodically, almost like a seasonal think. Every year a full month of SAB fun.

You missed the new TA, probs the best 5 man dungeon i ever played due to its nice mix of challenge, teamwork and mechanics. And yes i am an MMO veteran (30+ MMOs played) so i played a lot of 5 mans.

You missed Tequatl. The initial struggles due to , the collective theorycrafting and most importantly that it functions as a nice community builder. It resulted in a lot of people on voice chat and even a mumble server that is permamently populated these days on my server.

Compare that to wow for example where they create features that work directly against server communities (like cross server fully automated LFG, LFR, crossserver arenas etc), and you know why i think this is a good thing.

Raiding and gimmick mechanics is not my cup of tea, coming from an MMO noob who is so turned off by GW2 to resolve never going back to this genre ever again. The LFG tool spent one year in development.

So in short I missed nothing I would consider fun.

Personally I think you’ve actually come at the perfect time because for the most part the " lack of end game " as many call it may slowly begin to be stamped out if rumors of the next patch are true.

Very curious as to what these “rumors” are…care to share?

I just returned after nearly a year…I got a few toons up to the mid 20s and then left for MoP…now I’m back and my new toon is in the 40s and I am in love with this game like it’s beta all over again. Maybe it’s because I’ve put WoW behind me for good, and that I’m not rushing AT ALL to 80, are why I’m enjoying the game as much as I am.

I don’t get the negativity at all, it’s confusing. The game is better than when it launched, which was when everyone loved it. Maybe people need to take a break like I did!

So funny….. A thread full of responses detailing how terrible the game is, yet they continue to play and post here.

Welcome to GW2! As with any MMO, there are many ways to play and enjoy the game and GW2 delivers on those play styles with varying degrees of success.

It’s called Player investment, people put in hundred of hours of work but they dont want to step away and see all that go to waste.

We’re waiting for good updates, hopefully :/

Not really, I put in an obscene number of hrs and walked away from putting another 2k+ into mindless funless grind. I would have been happy to play daily for 1 to 3hrs and even creating GW2 machina (with permission) but Anet was kind enough to cure me of my GW2 addiction.

@Everyone Thank you for the warm welcome I’m really glad that i finally stumbled upon a nice and (mostly)positive thinking game community, that doesn’t focus on nihilism

You mean like all other MMO communities where the people on the forums aren’t astroturf? People complain, get over it. Its not the end of the world for players if they don’t play GW2; maybe it is for some Anet staff.

Have fun with GW2 as long as they can keep creating content to pull players in and have patience as the game exits open beta 1 with class balance issues after one year and enters open beta 2 class balance within the next year.

IF you guys really collaborated with the community you would see that the Cantha thread is pretty big and what MOST players want is a large content update in the form of extra content like in GW1 not piece meal projects that make us by trinklets in the gems store. I have not played the game since you guys BROKE the ranger. Until you guys REALLY listen to the community and release an expansion pack and fix the ranger I will no longer support this prouduct

Ranger is not broken in WvW and PvP. Thats what matters to the esports demographic. And btw class balance is going to be tweaked after October 15th and probably hundreds of times before GW3 is released. Have fun.

(0.05 * Condition Damage) + 42.5 per stack per second at level 80
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bleeding

Ascended grants 188 major stats and 134 minor stats instead of 179/ 128 for exotics. So you get additional 9/ 6 condition damage.

Zerker gets bonus weapon attack AND bonus power (and precision and crit damage).

In other words, zerker scale much more in damage in comparison.

when you take the game for what it is

This was used for every failed game since WoW.

When i hear this phrase i know things have gone south.

“It was supposed to be a great game, but if you take it for what it is itll be fine”

And what it is? Medicore, not really good, not all bad, but yeah. And then they wonder why 90% of people quit the game in 1-3 months. Becasue, you know, “if you take it for what it is” lol

I’ve heard the very same thing said about every successful game when someone complained about it, including WoW.

I used to complain about WoW and my friend would say, take it for what it is. It’s such a natural response.

Are you suggesting that WoW is failing because someone said that about WoW?

Guild Wars 2 isn’t other games. It’s what it is. Some people like what it is. If ENOUGH people like what it is, it will be successful. Of course those people who like it are going to say take it as it is…not because it’s mediocre, but because they don’t want the changes you want.

Since I am quoting Vayne I can be reasonably sure I won’t be infracted. So here goes …

The difference between WoW and GW2 in their respective heydays? About 7 million people in my estimation.

That’s a very good way to sink a ship you have there. Numbers are good, number are good, numbers are good, hey what happened no one is playing any more.

When it comes to games you for the most part have one shot, screw it up and you will have lost your audience. There are simply to many fish in the sea.

I would like to disagree. If what they have implemented (ie Ascended weapon time sink) is working and has managed to maintain audience retention, it is an indication of success like a TV series which has gone on into its 2nd season still in its prime time slot drawing the all-important demographic they were targeting.

If audiences are willing to sit though that weekly hour of entertainment without changing channels, it indicates they enjoy that content or at the very least don’t find it to be annoying / boring / flat-out bad / a waste of their time.

So kudos to Anet kitten many other commentators on these forums has mentioned. May GW2 march on to its 3rd year and beyond. No other MMO has ever come close to its community outreach.

You are basing this on assumption without proof. It might just be to use your analogy that there is simply nothing better on at the time of the tv show.

Well that may be true, if there is nothing better on, I would be playing games

Hi Cris,

It would be great to have some place on forum where we could discuss things with team directly.
I already have some things on mind that would love talk about. Last 3 updates changed game so drastically and if you want to continue this way it surely need lot of debate with us.
Now it seems to me like you have some vision of the game and you want to fulfill no matter consequences it can have. Don’t take it wrong please :-)
I am just worried about games future, becouse i enjoyed it much, especialy content like Bazaar, Politics, Dragon Bash, Jubilee and other. And i would love to continue to enjoy the game.
There are a lot of angry people now, but even if they are behaving how they should not, something angered them. I am not defending bad behavior just saing that opnion or problem of that person can be same valid or important as opinions and problems of others. They just have to learn how to behave.
Thanks for reading and possible response.
And sorry if my english is too bad :-)

I haven’t read any rants so far or the moderator had deleted those posts. So I think either people are beyond the point of anger or the GW2 “noise makers” are actually quite a polite bunch.

On the subject of immersion for the poll…

Do you think it really matters? We’ve already ran over the line and then some on breaking immersion. I mean, every time we complete a daily, monthly, Personal Story, or an Achievement milestone, we have a giant picture of a chest with boxes in the middle of our screen. Not to mention whenever we get “special” mail, we get a giant letter in front of our screen as well.

And then there is the gem store items. Baseball hats with the GW2 logo on them, RayBan Sunglasses, Fuzzy Animal Backpacks, 8bit Weapons and Backpacks, T-Shirts with the GW2 logo on them, a “legendary” bow that shoots unicorns with the Arenanet logo on it, Modern Hoodies, etc etc the list goes on.

I think we are way past breaking immersion with a small poll in the corner of the screen. Honestly, it seriously feels like you guys don’t even care about immersion with half the stuff you release, so I don’t think an in game poll is going to matter.

Ouch. Touché.

Nevertheless, polls dont really matter, what matters is the game concurrency numbers. If the numbers are up, Anet can just ignore the “noise” generated in the forums as “minority” concerns. If the numbers are plummeting like a rock, I am confident that as a for profit company Anet would gladly eat some humble pie and reverse their decisions concerning their product like other billion dollar companies in recent gaming history.

Nobody likes difficult content, it’s a myth.

There are 2 different sets of players; those that want easy content and those that want exclusive content.

The first set wants the game to be incredibly easy so they can relax, socialize and generally progress with minimal effort.

The second set wants content that is tuned specifically for them so they can beat it and subsequently brag about it to players unable to beat it.

Notice, no where in there did I say either set wants difficult content. When given the option of being handed a $100 bill or being given a days worth of work and being paid $100 for it, no rationale person is going work when they can get the same reward without working.

I get the analogy since quite a few people consider GW2 their second job instead as a game.

As a community we need to stay away from idle threats, people calling for people getting fired, and totally reprehensible comments being aimed at devs and other forum users. Blind rage is ludicrous and if we want real communication we need to talk, not just spew hate and anger.

No idle threats and no rage posts about perpetual class nerfs/buffs/changes (aka neverending open beta). I simply cannot afford the time required to grind Ascended Weapons and upcoming Ascended armor and hence moved on from GW2.

The devs need not accept feedback from a disgruntled individual or a group of like-minded individuals if the game is indeed growing in concurrency numbers.

ArenaNet's target audience

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

I don’t agree. Arena net is trying to please different segments of people.
The players that have cash but little time (gem shop…kaching)
The players that have little cash but LOTs of time (keeps player populations up)
Dungeon players (twilight arbor)
large group players (tequatl rising / Guild missions & puzzles)
PvP (esport tournaments)

Now I’m not saying they are all successful, but these are things that I have seen recently. So Arena net is trying to appease different player bases. Not everyone runs dungeons, not everyone PvE’s, not everyone PvP’s and not everyone WvW’s. some dabble here and there a few do them all, but most people primarily do one thing. So Arena net is trying to do a little player pleasing here and there to keep a large number of players….playing the game.

The players that have little cash but LOTs of time (keeps player populations up) – Ascended weapons.

Esport – Anet’s shattered dream

Dungeon players – too little too late

Open world Raid players – see above

First, I am not leaving. I play every day and do most of the LS content.

I am in 3 guilds, 2 of which are dead. I have had friends in my 2 dead guilds start asking me about what is going on in GW2 because they heard about all the new content and where thinking about coming back. So I tell them about all the great updates we have had, but then I have to tell them, “sorry, it was temporary so you missed out”.
It’s a real downer. None of my friends has any interest in returning once they find out they missed so much content that they will most likely never see again. Telling them there is new content every 2 weeks makes no difference it seems.

Has anyone else experienced this with their friends? Opinions? Is LS really a reason not to return?

What LS? You mean SAB?

GW2 had a great run of one year, Molten facility, Airship, Fracts, Queen’s Gauntlet (as laggy as it was) – nothing else seems to be coming close to the above mentioned IMO.

Even if future content was of the same quality, I doubt it would convince the people who left to return. Good thing I enjoyed the best the game had to offer.

Holy Grind Wars 2!

I was suprised to not find my name on Erick’s list, because I’ve made sure to chime in on this topic elsewhere and have read all 24 pages of this thread. Apparently I just failed to post in it.

As is clear by my signature, I feel the way ascended gear has been implemented is terrible. I went from ecstatic that this game was promoted as not having gear to chase at endgame, to disappointed by ascended trinkets, but resigned because they weren’t overly burdensome to acquire, to finally deciding to cut off my financial support over the roll out of ascended weapons.

I recognize, as Vayne frequently reminds us, that companies change direction. I also recognize, however, that companies often sacrifice long term health for short term gains, and give up on a bold vision for a perceived sense of security. He’s right that we are in no place to judge why they’ve made the changes they have. We don’t know what forces they are responding to.

We do, however, have every right to judge the product of those choices. Like any consumer, we judge whether we are interested in continuing to buy a product or not.

Research has shown that for every customer who complains, there are twenty-six of like mind who do not. That means, according to Erick’s numbers, this thread represents about 3600 people who dislike ascended gear. I know of at least a few who don’t post here, but have voiced their complaints on fan and guild sites.

If you ask any worthwhile businessman, they’d rather hear customer complaints than have their customers just quietly leave for other businesses. Voicing our displeasure over the current direction of the game is a service to ANet.

Yes, it’s entirely possible that we are a tiny minority, and are expendable. Perhaps the money I used to spend in the cash shop is being made up tenfold by MMO traditionalists who are happy they have carrots to chase. I really like the original vision for this game, however, and am committed to calling ANet back to it for as long as I continue to enjoy enough of the game to keep playing.

Can I +1 10000000 times? thanks.

Do what i’m doing now don’t play the game and boycott it and post on forum to vent your anger!

I pretty much have already. Basically for the last month or so, I’ve only logged in to do daily’s if that! There’s nothing here keeping my interest until new permanent areas are opened up to explore.

I will probably play once a month if Anet is lucky. Meanwhile I hear there is this amazing casual friendly card game that will blow the minds of game companys investors.

Something that makes a bit more sense would be ideal

I think what Colin said did make sense. People need stuff to work for…you may not..I may not, but I suspect we’re not typical.

There was already a lot to “work for”

And they could have picked crapload of better options of thibgs to “work for” instead of gear treadmill with all its problems that even WoW hasnt managed to solve in 8 years.

A single tier of gear does not a treadmill make.

No, constant adding new gear to grind/upping power curve does. Duh.

No point play this game that fails to promise, lets just play gtaV and leave this game to rot

Ye, already playing something else. Waiting for ESO/EXNext, whenever those arrive.

I can’t wait to drink your tears when those games come out and disappoint you.

Well Anet must be doing something right as they have not given any indication that they will reduce the mats for ascended weapons, which would indicate to me that there are still many active players.

I think what Colin said did make sense. People need stuff to work for…you may not..I may not, but I suspect we’re not typical.

What do people “work for” after the get the latest tier of gear?

Achievement points. Remember this isn’t the latest tier of gear. This is part of a tier of gear that was already rolled out. The achievement point grind (and yes it is a grind) started AFTER they started rolling out ascended stuff.

So why not add achievement point grind, instead of adding additional ascended stuff?

Because they started rolling out a tier of gear and it’s unfinished. Some people want that extra tier of gear (if nothing else it allows them to continue making higher level fractals). That’s why.

But it doesn’t mean there’ll be another tier of gear after this.

True and it doesn’t mean there won’t be one. Because after all people need to work for stuff.

It doesn’t mean there won’t be one. But I think when Colin said he hopes this is the last, is because I think he knows how many people are addicting themselves to achievement point grind (which I think is far worse than gear grind btw).

No one said, written in stone, this won’t be the last. But I personally don’t see any reason for another tier to be made, if in fact the achievement point system works for them. Most likely, progression will continue through different types of infusions.

I think that is a false hope Colin has, even though I want him to be right. Unfortunately if history as shown us anything in MMOs, it is that people like power and progress. Cosmetic items and achievement points aren’t going to quench the thirst of the masses.

I think the masses have changed a lot, due to consoles which all have achievement points now. Even steam has achievement points. People are making the shift from gear grind to achievement point grind…and I still think that’s worse.

History doesn’t necessary come into play after things have evolved a bit.

If that were the case, they could have built this game like that. Instead they added a new tier of gear. I guess you think they realized the importance of “achievements” a little too late?

Oh sure. Anet complete underestimated the percentage of the player base that could live with cosmetic rewards. Actually that may not be completely true either.

Anet didn’t put enough cosmetic rewards in that were hard enough to get besides legendaries which were ridiculous for the average/casual player. If they hadn’t been buyable, it would have been a completely different game today. But you can’t rewrite history.

We know people weren’t picking up on legendary weapons, at least not enough to keep them in game and playing, and people were leaving after they hit level cap. Forums were filled with people who had “nothing to do” and no patience to wait for stuff to do.

Anet, in a blind panic, introduced ascended gear and fractals in an attempt to keep people in game…and to a degree that seemed to work. Then the achievement point stuff was put into the game along with the living story. That keeps more people playing and coming back on patch days..which is why they’re every two weeks.

I think Anet screwed up badly in the early days and they’re trying desperately to fix that error. But they can’t do it by removing gear grind at this point. They just have to do the best they can with the hand they’ve got.

I think a lot of people arent really complaining about the ascended tier per se (albeit a few are concerned about a neverending treadmill) but the amount of grind required to obtain ONE weapon as opposed to getting a ring and accessory. Cannot imagine what has to be done for ascended armor.

dunno what you are talking about. As a non-CoF farmer and a guy that do NOT enjoy running around in circles pressing 1 for countless hours I can tell you that dungeons are now QUITE profitable.

Laid off the gold making routine, try other things, gold is decreasing in value, accept it and adapt. I, for once, Im glad Anet is doing something to get rid of farming which gives an unfair advantage to people with too much free time in their hands and give people like us who have jobs a chance to catch up in the little time we can afford to put into the game.

Not if u want Ascended weapons.

Yah, i alwyas dreamed of having alts parked at JPs just to farm gear.

I always dreamed of champion trains and temple zerging for months just to grind some gear.

As i said before, they want to sell vegan meal with meat in it.

But anyways, these changes are not for west market, focus is east now.

Empyreal/Dragonite should be gated

Right now, the Empyreal Fragments and Dragonite Ore seem to be a little too easy* to get. Capping Towers and Camps in WvW give a lot of Empyreal Fragments, while taking Keeps gives you Dragonite Ore. Then you have World Bosses and Jumping Puzzles that can be farmed daily for these two mats. With all these sources of rare material, it seems to be speeding up the Ascended weapon crafting.

As I understand, Ascended weapons were meant to take a long time to make. Getting from lv 400 to lv 500 Crafting is in itself an expensive task. But once you hit lv 500, you can start making your weapons. Spirit Residue and Mithrillium are already gated, so why not all the other Ascended mats?

In my opinion, there should be some reductions to the drop rates of Empyreal and Dragonite mats. I don’t know if such rare Ascended mats were intended to be that easy* to get. (* easy as in more common that usual)

Getting the required quantity of Empyreal and Dragonite is easy if you spend 8hr daily on the game.

I think they are great addition to the game, exotic really were too easy to acquire.

These however require a little effort, and i mean it, very little, just do your daily things, and craft your time gated items until you can craft. Seriously, the material required are easy to get, and you don’t need much of them.

This is an absolute lie. The ascended material is easy to get by doing Temples and dungeons but it will take you a lot of time to accumulate mats for one ascended weapon not including the crafting and other materials. And if you are just doing a daily, probably in a year you would get your first ascended weapon.
