Does banning a class improve quality of life?

I think it would be more efficient to just ban none zerkers, seeing as all zerkers bring something to the table…

except necro’s, they don’t.

Necros have some mighty strong autos, but they don’t cleave. :<

My necro DS pierces (you’d be surprised how often mobs line up for that), I bring aoe blind a chill. My well of suffering+death shroud combo wrecks entire groups of trash mobs more so than the warriors and add to that boon corrupting with corrupt boon+well of corruption makes the dredge fractal that much more bearable.

Necros bring great things to groups. Either people play crappy builds or they haven’t played a necro and they misunderstand the class.
In short Necros are great in dungeons they bring good group utility and good damage.

Nothing that any other class does easier with more DPS in the same gear. Necro was supposed to be condition heavy build since condition damage nets u no loot and since other people’s stacks interferes with yours….

SAB World Infinity.

If you want to do a spinoff Anet do it properly and keep it separate. You can still use the same servers as I read that GW1 does the same thing.

I don’t think many people really miss the grind. That’s like saying they miss going to the dentist :/

The reward system in GW2 is weird. You go from zero to exo within 5-7 days, but any step further requires weeks to months of grind, for a tiny portion of the reward you got before. Everyone is rubberbanded to the same level. While this is good for casual play, it leaves little room for challenges or personal improvement.
Furthermore there is a lack of horizontal progression, too. Once you’ve seen all dungeons and learned how to play your (unfortunatly) meta build there isn’t much left to aspire.

They could have tried to dedicate a part of their game to each part of their community. However, for fear of splitting them apart they went for a merge attempt that instead will make them lose all except the casuals part eventually.

Furthermore there is a lack of horizontal progression, too. I agree with this part the rest not so; you forgot learning how to play all 8 professions though. Anet took a positive step in that direction when they released new sigils and runes such as perplexity but not much since then. What meta builds are there except for DPS in PvE even with the upcoming crit damage nerf?

In relation to DPS and the need for ascended, I forgot to mention one important thing – doing enough DPS to world bosses / champs as to be able to collect their loot before other ascended warriors melts them

How would it take you 5-7 days to be geared in exotic without reaching lvl 400 in crafting is beyond me since it takes quite a lot of tokens for exo gear now that tokens are capped daily. Crafting to 400 is quite a grind as well because u need the mats or the G for mats esp now that lower tier mats increased in prices thanks to ascended.

I think a lot of people misuse the term casual a lot – some people think it includes people who puts in thousands of hours but isnt as skillful or inclined to solo Lupi. Whereas I would term casual players who spend not more than 10hr per week on the game who would be turned off by the grind, the obnoxious 1337ists who reside in the halls of CoE or the lack of new good content in general.

And if you want to know what really is a casual friendly game, just take a look at a MMO released last week which made GW2 server populations fall dramatically and imho permanently. Enough said.

I’m not sure why you think you can’t DPS stack to get the kill. That makes no sense. Particularly because we were DPS stacking before ascended armor and weapons came out.

And in some pugs it still fails due to lack of DPS if they don’t play warrior/thief/ele.

And for a Mystic Forging long time, the LFG tool was not up because some people thought it would “destroy” the GW2 community. I think these guys never PUG at all which would explain why some would feel that the game is too easy / you dont need good gear etc etc.

I’ve beaten every single dungeon in this game without ascended gear. Every single path of every single dungeon. I’m not even 100% positive I had full exotics in most of them.

Arguing just to argue is pointless. You can do the dungeons just fine without ascended gear. If you don’t want to grind for it, take your time and get a piece at a time as you get stuff for it from playing. That’s what I’m doing.

In the mean time I’m STILL running dugneons.

Those who are leaving this game because there’s a “gear treadmill” don’t know what a gear treadmill is.

No one comes back to Rift after a year away and does the current content with the gear they have.

Sure u could do it in guild groups. Its a matter of how long and how many times before you can get through. In Pugs you need every bit of advantage you can get for the more difficult content such as higher level fractals (when they were new) – otherwise there would be no such thing as RQ which I experienced plenty mostly by teammates in the thousands of PuG runs I have been on.

The only possible reason why people dont need gear is by now everyone found out the most easy tactic which doesnt require DPS for 2 year old content.

You can do the dungeons just fine without ascended gear.

Certainly a valid opinion.

Sure killing the spider in AC in rares will take a longer time and risk possible failure since you cant DPS stack to victory.

If you’re speed running you might make it in 8 minutes. Non-speed run groups in my guild make it in 12. That’s with people who don’t do dungeons hardly ever, mind you and aren’t geared in ascended gear.

The thing is, it’s meaningless.

I can run dungeons ten minutes faster.

In other games you can’t run dungeons and raids at all if you don’t gear for it. That’s why it’s a treadmill. You need the gear from the last raid to do the next raid. That’s what very definition of treadmill.

I have guys gone from this game for a year, come back and jump into dungeons with us.

The treadmill exists in the minds of those who haven’t yet realized they’re not playing one of the old style MMOs. It doesn’t exist in Guild Wars 2.

Dungeons such as COF P1 and SE P1. You don’t need tokens or G for legendaries or for buying skins off TP or for gems exchange – its up to the individual. But people do it anyway.

Well some guild challenges do require u to have DPS – sucks to be in a guild with 30 people all wearing rare gear who play 10 hrs per month in GW2 when the event scales up to 30 ppl.

Call it everything you want. Ascended gear is not a gear treadmill. For one thing, in games with a gear treadmill, you have to have that gear to advance in the game. Anet made one piece of content of all the content that would in theory REQUIRE grind. That would be FoTM. They did this because early on people were leaving the game in droves, because they had nothing to work for. It’s the purpose of agony.

Aside from that, what dungeon can you do in ascended gear that I can’t do in rares?

At least 10 min faster in organized groups all decked out and better carrying ability in PUGs.

Better? How much better? Ten minutes faster? I’d say that’s completely wrong. I don’t think it’s ten minutes faster. Are you saying that we can run CoF in 12 minutes on a relatively casual pug and you can run it in 2 minutes?

I don’t think so. Maybe ten minutes faster for the longest dungeon in the game, assuming everyone has maxed out everything, no one makes any mistakes, and nothing unexpected happens.

But you know, since the dungeons haven’t been rebalanced for ascended gear, exotic uses do just fine.

Do you really think you run SE path 1 ten minutes faster than I do? lol

There are dungeons other than COF P1 and SE P1 which most avoid – why is that pray tell? If the rest of my pug was wearing rares, good luck DPSing down SE P1. A casual organized group with BiS can probably do it in 8 min a bad PUG with bad gear can probably take more than 18.

There is no “financial gain” in playing a sub game daily. You are going to pay $15 regardless at the end of 30 days. I dont mind paying a sub fee if new content which is at least passable is periodically pushed out.

And dont tell me u are doing fract level 50 with AR 30. Hope your fixed party is fine with that.

A game should be rewarding. There should be challenges and accolades. The limits should never be what the game allows you to do but what the player can do. If I have the funds to buy full ascended, I should be able to.

Surely a game should be fun and then rewarding? If a player isn’t having fun first then what’s the point of the rest? This is what GW2 is aiming at (in my opinion, of course) and for a lot of people it succeeds.

The first 100 COF P1 dungeon runs were kind of fun. So was the full Molten Facility and the Airship. But guess what – either became boring, shortened or was temporary.

Teon, do I honestly need to explain necessity to you? I also like how you claim I don’t know true grind based on me telling you that there is, indeed, grind in GW2. A game that was advertised as completely grind free and easy to acquire max stats.

Time gated content, limited drops, levelling system which is probably VERY dumbed down to grab as many MMO failures as possible that use the excuse “But I HAVE a life!” and then rope them into the gem store.

It’s genius! I admire ArenaNet for creating a second Farmville and milking the meek! You say having a life is the reason you can’t get through this game. I say it’s because you lack knowledge as you can race through any game that isn’t time gated. That’s why time gating was introduced in this game at all.

Guild Wars 2 is the most casual friendly game I have ever played. Which is a shame. Guild Wars 1 took skill. I just hope one day that there is something at my level too.

It was advertised as having no required grind. Like Guild Wars 1, there were always going to be things to grind for. In fact, that very question was asked numerous times before release. It’s a game that was meant to cater to different play styles, including those who wanted to grind.

But plenty of people play this game, do WvW, all the dungeons, PvP and don’t grind.

People who choose not to grind or don’t have the time to grind which should never have never increased 10 fold with the introduction of ascended gear.

I grinded to level my alts for each profession to lvl 80, gear them all in exos and chose nice costumes of each of them and Anet introduces ascended.

And how is time gated content casual friendly at all? If people had a choice at all, they would rather not log in daily to do at least 1 hr of watever and instead play 3-4hrs on the weekend days.

If I wasnt grinding for ascended, I would be happy pugging in dungeons as frustrating and unprofitable it can sometimes be.

Same thing for temporary content – you have to rush to finish whatever achievement to get that reward whereas I can take my sweet time to do whatever in the Elder Scrolls online. Isn’t that more casual friendly?

Of course. Who else would spend that level of time to have their gear compensate for skill? Gear over skill games are completely aimed at casuals. They put the time in and can have their time be their progression.

You’ll never see a game like this as an E-Sport.

No one is stopping you from running content or even WvW in subpar gear dude. If you want pure “skill” based games you should be playing games like Dark Souls, even then some builds are better than others.

I like the 2g my fractal 50 runs make me, I also love receiving uninfused condition rings, Thank you anet!

would you rather rings didn’t drop at all? Someone can use those rings (I’m running a condition based necro -_-) and every time when you’re dealing with RNG loot you’re not guaranteed something useful to you. The same way that even if you solo raids in WoW the gear that will drop is likely to be the wrong class for you to wear it.

I would rather you could buy ascendeds with a ticket system (pristine relics) too, I don’t like RNG, however a lot of players were complaining that no loot drops that make them feel like a special butterfly in a dungeon take away the excitement at the same time as Anet was trying to make crafting extra important and because of that we have this RNG mess in the first place.

Kind of silly of ppl banging their heads against a brick wall and expecting a different result each time. Why waste your time on something you don’t find fun or profitable?

That’s my opinion though.

All of those can be used by DPS builds and that is even worse.

That would just balance the cheesy tactics used by dungeoneers that doens t want challenge but rewards, yet comes in the forum asking for more challenging content….

If they want more challenging content they should try as i said avoiding the copy paste runs they saw on youtube.
Or just PUG (pugging requires build adaptation, reflexes and versatile tactics).

I cannot second this sentiment enough. Or run on their least favorite class / build. Its a shame Anet does not want to introduce a system that rewards PUGging though.

If you listened to the live stream from 4/9/14, there is NO WAY T6 mats are going to drop in value. Node farming is now randomized on each instance of a zone. You think vicious claws, powerful blood and ancient bone is expensive now, wait two weeks when gw2nodes.com cannot show you anything. Farming is going to be hunt and peck.

What? Bone, blood, claws, etc. don’t drop from resource nodes. People wouldn’t use gw2nodes to get those; that was only good for getting orichalcum, ancient saplings, and plants.

Dropped 500 rare Great swords in the toilet the other morning (with a rough crafting cost of 210g), my return was around 50g of exo’s.

Dropped 100g of rare short bows four weeks ago and got ‘The Lover’.

Quite enjoy the gamble myself, although I’d never waste all my gold on the MF its just a bit of fun once in a while. I tend to have X amount of gold put away to have a gamble each month, and I always save my T5 mats and craft the rare’s (only a few gold cheaper).

If your trying this for a pre its not worth it. You can easily acclimate the money for a pre within four weeks (hours of play dependant) of casual play via dungeon play.

Precursors are now 700g so 4 weeks of continuous daily play 700/28=25g per day from dungeons. GL with that if you dont have a fixed grind party and have to rely on PUGs.

400g worth of rares in the Forge

in Crafting

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

Well the chances of getting a precursor are extremely low. ~250 attempts with rares ~160 attempts with exotics on average or 0.4% and 0.6%. This is based on forum post, my friend that is in the precursor market and reddit. That is why it is RNG. Gamble’s fallacy is a good way description of the mystic forge. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gambler's_fallacy

It would not explain why quite a few ppl have extraordinary luck or at least better luck than others. Its like hitting the jackpot thrice with the same stakes as ordinary ppl and anecdotally it would seem to be more than just one person. Maybe a statistician could sift through the data and analyze objectively whether is there bias or not.

In another thread that got infracted, I was wondering how Magic Find was implemented in its programming – from what I read somewhere it changes to another tier of loot table.

For all the TP haters out there, at least it serves a purpose – unlike kittening account bound fractal weapons and sunless weapons, if you wanted a skin you could grind for it. Otherwise you are out of luck.

Just a thought. I know it is all RNG but I wonder if Anet control the amount of pre-cursors the MF gives out in a day.

For example today, it may only dispense 20 precursors and no more. If those 20 are already gone, you could put a million rares in and still never get anything.

It’s possible… But I don’t think so. There are a lot of different exotics you can get so they don’t even need to make it rarer to get from the mystic forge. If you were trying to get the exotic riffle Charrzooka you would have to spend just as much as you would spend on the precursor if you wanted it.

I don’t think your assumption about Charrzooka as being an equally rare exotic is correct either. Anet has indicated they are going to try to improve the MF rate for exos in the Apr 15 patch but leave the rate of precursor MFing untouched – which suggests that precursors have their own probability rating.

Precursors are like playing the Lotto.

The odds are astronomical to win.
And you know what? Someone still wins on a regular basis,

…..its just not going to be you XD

Its like playing the Lotto for some people and for others its like playing Roulette in which they keep getting good drops.

For those that haven’t noticed, precursors are on the rise… again. Paying with either real money converted to gems, then to gold, or straight up with gold is a stupid way of doing it. You are paying for pixels. If that brings you enjoyment then good for you. However it fails to address the core issue of precursors — acquisition method alternatives — and the fact that no dev wants to go anywhere near a thread as hot and loaded as this is.

Its like saying owners of art paying just for the paint. In any case you arent really paying for “the pixels” as Anet retains ownership.

I guess I’m just of the mindset that what you’re suggesting, while perhaps legendary in scope, is not what the devs are considering because it’s an entire revamp requiring a LOT of coding…my solution was meant to be simple for precursor attainment without solving further mat requirements or making it additionally complicated. After Jormag’s defeat, you need to talk to the NPC to buy 100 Icy Runestones (which is similar to part of your suggestion).

The only legendary content on the level you’re speaking of was the one-time Karka event on a Sunday back in November of 2012. I got a 20 slot inventory bag. That was cool. But if that’s the type of content you want, it can’t be based on RNG. Hence why I recommend the 10k achievement point level – it requires very little programming from Anet, puts a standard out there, lowers prices, and makes it achievable but not immediate FOR EVERYONE ACROSS THE BOARD.

Equalization – that’s what the core of the RNG issue is about. They don’t need to revamp the whole process. Just how to obtain the precursor.

Thus it was not stupid to save G and buy precursors off TP. My 2nd precursor Howl wasnt popular and I used AP money to buy it. If you want to know what bad luck is, the two times I opened the Karka chests I got the crappiest exos there were and didn’t see my first exo drop either from mobs or chests until 1500hrs in.

Subsequent patches did improve my loot table however but still nowhere as fantastic as some.

PS. IMHO its not just precursor acquisition that is the problem – its loot in general.

How much time would it take you in game to earn enough gold to to buy 800 gems? Why would I grind all that gold when I can work at my job for a fraction of an hour, buy what I want, and spend the time I would’ve spent grinding for gold doing whatever I found fun.

WoW has a cash shop, yes. But that cash shop only a few mounts, a few pets and dumb looking transmog helms that everyone mocks if you dare show your face in game with one of them on.

Meanwhile, I can get hundreds of mounts and pets in game.

+1. In any case Anet lootz table is seriously skewed towards some people and not others. Some people can get 3 Sunless weapons whereas other can get 0 after months of wasting 20 min daily on it. Fract weapons? How about the precursor rage thread (I dont personally experience it because I grinded and saved for G and got precursors off the TP when they were “cheap”)?

ESO’s only item in the cash shop is a single horse and its just a mid tier one in terms of gold.

On top of everything you have to GRIND for empyreal, dragonite and bloodstone for ascended.

One thing about monthly subs I dont like though is that its not a balance of time – its not equal x amount of hrs of game-time.

The end to the season 1 story pretty much hit us over the head with the fact that we’re going to be seeing new zones in the west, past Metrica Province and Brisbane Wildlands.

-Mordremoth is out there, and he’s the new big baddie.
-Marjory’s sister is heading to Brisbane Wildlands to investigate black market activity (i.e. the bandits).
-There are two exits to zones we can’t get to in Brisbane Wildlands.
-There is a bandit fortress with level 80 bandits, it holds one of those exits.

Marjory’s sister is going to that fortress. Something dramatic will happen. New zones to explore will open up. It’s not a big secret.

Wow wish we had a timeline to all this. I would settle if all this came in August.

And btw if you have been playing GW2, there are no “seasons” to the “living story” only WvW.

Not like I want it to be like this but tired from ‘’OMG, we have no content’’ threads. You don’t have traditional MMO content, however I can listen a huge list full of things that got added to the game, from QoF changes to content.

Bold added by me.

You’re actually asking us to chip in and pay them more, because they’ve failed at their job of making the game enjoyable?

You mean grinding for ascended isn’t fun?

Anyone excited about the new drum yet?

To be fair, a drum makes sense for the instruments. Strings, woodwinds, brass, and now percussion. Those are the major instrument families, as I recall. They’re just filling out the missing one.

I am sure the classical musicians who play GW2 would appreciate the devs’ efforts tremendously.

There’s a drop in server population? I was too busy playing ESO to notice.

ESO launch – relatively polished and bug free as compared to other MMOs after one year, Zenimax listened to feedback given by players in beta, has a inbuilt LFG tool at launch, will never have a SAB even though Sheogorath is madder than a hatter.

Its like comparing Game of Thrones to Adventure Time or whatever RPG inspired cartoon young “adults” enjoy.

Ah ok, this is my final character and wanted to make a minion master with as many bodies as possible, so was thinking Blood Fiend, Bone Minions, Shadow Fiend, Bone Fiend, Flesh Golem, then Ogre runes for the Rock Dog and the extra demon from the Sigil.

(Obviously a fun build, not a min/max)

U are forgetting the jagged horrors and consumables. its fun for farming. too bad demon summoning requires u to be downed in order to restart stacks

I have the exact oposite…. I was not really expecting anything fun, because I really think that both the quests in GW1 and SAB were crap and I’d rather have a 1 day gimmick like the good old, gender swap, stickfigures, gwendolls and mini me. Each year I was exicted for what foolish silly little gimmicky thing was on for that day and got disapointed when some noncanon quests was introduced instead. So I was happy when I logged in today and saw something silly and foolish like the bobbleheads today.

SAB (as much as I myself hate it and don’t really want it) will come back I am sure… it have just grown out of it role as a joke…. because too many people thought it was meant to be serious content.

It is serious content for the 1337 gamers. Hard content which does not allow just autoattacking.

Only do dungeons that are less than 10min? lol so I guess a 15-20min arah path is not profitable.

Also, no love for ele and thief?

Its profitable only for non pugs and arah super vets + selling of spots to noobs/nubs.

or just solo P4 in 20 min and sell the spots at 9g each, instant 102g/hour profit

Everyone should do this.

Transmutation stones rewards removed?

Farming BL chest keys doesn’t take much longer, and yet they still haven’t removed them from personal story rewards. It’s just mind-numbingly boring, almost noone is going to do much of that. (and people that would are the same people that would farm gold to buy gems, but would never pay real money themselves).

Farming BL chest keys is pretty long – its about 25-30 min in my experience; loading etc travelling inc. Maybe a v fast guy can do it in 20 or less but its lvl limited – not much u can do to improve speed.

flipping TP is the only way to earn money, if enough people do it we will reach a state in which no more gold is ever created in the game.

Well Anet could just pump in G by buying stuff from TPers then.

Creating an asura, exploring Rata Sum, deleting him and doing it all again isn’t that long. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s gonna be nerfed.

Its only 10-15 min with as asura warrior, but its the worst job ever. Extremely boring. I can probably only take 1 hr of it daily.

Warrior / thief combo can stack might easily too and thief has even better dps.

Dungeons are ok for G but only COF P1 because its so short and SE P1/P3 (relatively short and many champ boxes). You need tokens for exos to salvage and you might get lucky and get the inscriptions (tip: Knights and Berserker’s insignia go for the most G) and you probably need the Globs of dark matter + ectos as well.

If you want to farm T6 mats, rares and G, best events are Assault Arah and Temple of Melandru. You only hope there arent lots of players that have super DPS which prevents you from tagging – in my experience it happens quite a lot at Arah. At least in temple of Melandru, the number of mobs and spawn rate scale better with the number of players and during the defend the interrupter phase this will increase the number of champ spiders spawned.

Then again post Apr 15 this may not be the case and devs have indicated nerfing loot drops and / or distributing more evenly throughout the other maps. Devs in Anet, better loot otl : 3

No one complaining about minion master nerf?

in Necromancer

Khal Drogo.9631

The MM nerfs are in no way significant to their PvE use. 5% damage nerf is tiny (you really shouldn’t use that trait in PvE anyway), and vampiric master, while again it shouldn’t be used in PvE, won’t make a big difference.

I dont PvP at all, but I will miss my jagged horrors when they are merged into a GM trait.

Getting a cool skin is not a grind .
Getting better stats it’s a grind.

Getting a cool skin is optional and you probably get only ONE for one of your characters if it is very grindy. And most cool skins are less grindy than ascended weapons.

Grinding please please please

Khal Drogo.9631

To the dude above me. You need to go back and play those games. I currently raid and play with friends in all of them, and in comparison to gw2 how it is now, vs last Oct the ‘grind’ you are talking about is 150% easier in wow etc, in fact its so easy that i geared up a brand new toon in full purple gear in heroic raiding in under one month and that was not playing more than twice a week. I haven’t been able to touch that here. So your comparison is bad since you obviously don’t play those games, you like to use as a comparison for what grind even means, and sit here and defend guild wars.
This game has way more of a grind than anyone wants to admit. You should just own up to it.

I am shocked this post did not get infracted. What in my opinion sets GW2 apart from other MMOs such as Final Fantasy Online is its more action / arcadey combat system which I prefer. Then again the non stop tinkering with the class skills etc killed my interest. This indicates that Anet either
1) does not have a proper/good QA department
2) development cycle was mismanaged and/or allocated to other parts of the game such as SAB
3) exited beta/development way too early (see: Hearthstone)
4) simply does not have the expertise/knowledge required to create a balanced class system which is a fundamental aspect of the game

I think the overall feeling for many players is one of disappointment. Personally the direction I would have taken with the game is the RPG aspect as in FF (minus the equivalent grind) rather than the MMO aspect of WoW.
