Rune of strength need a nerf

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khal Drogo.9631

I wonder why the hell this rune is much more expensive than scholar especially there’s more strength runes than scholars, hype and manipulation before demand = Wall Street Wars 2.

Alot more people play in pugs than pre-made groups or with at least 1-3 friends, so they aren’t exactly sure if they’ll get 25 might stacks with party and self buffs.

And those friends/guildies they play with might want to play necro or something that doesn’t provide party might so they’ll still be short on maximizing Scholar Runes vs Strength Runes.

I kinda like how it is right now, if you’re pugging and can stack decent might you go for Might runes, if you’re running in a pre-made group that can cap might stacks you go with Scholars.

Some people never play with PUGs / do world bosses content so dont bother explaining this to them. They will never understand.

Aside from T5 costing over 2s now, they nerfed the toilet even more, now you get lvl 75-79 random exotics too if you put 4x 80’s, so just save

lvl 75 exos are ok if they are not part of the same loot table as precursors. If they have a higher drop rate post patch, its called breaking even G wise.

just make them craftable and nerf 7% to 5%. problem solved.
or you can buff scholar to 13% (5% to 7% = ~30% buff), coz this rune actually require some skill.

Skill as in a having a hammer guardian equipped with sigil of water.

Another thing – account bound cannot be salvaged otherwise you could at least partially recoup your loss. If you buy the upgrade extracter you are more or less paying for the rune itself.

I hope everybody trashing the zerkers realize that this only affects you if you are into speedrunning. If you don’t care about speedrunning, or have guildies/friends to play with that don’t care about speedrunning, then who cares. If the speedrun groups choose to be extra strict that’s their prerogative.

Zerker groups have never affected me because I don’t speedrun, and if you don’t speedrun then it doesn’t affect you either.

On the flip side it is kinda lame the zerkers that are basically saying if you don’t run zerker you are bad/l2dodge, etc. I can dodge flawlessly and I run my cleric guard most of the time, yea I said it. People can be good at dodging and not wear zerker gear, they just don’t care about efficiency. Plus dodging red circles and telegraphed mob skills IMO requires far less skill than properly dodging in PvP.

Not if u have lag or animation spam from ele / engineers. And you cant dodge endlessly.

Dodging in PVP? U mean randomly pressing dodge when in a 2 v 1 situation?

P.S And I experience a lot of DCs from the server side in this game.

False. As someone that frequently went for solo times in Arah, I can assure you that in full ascended strength runes (switched from scholar for obvious reasons) I’m still not able to hit as well as I was before the patch unless I’m pretty much camping GS, which is obviously not a viable option most of the time.

I am quite sure that in an organized group in Arah / PUG in other dungeons it doesnt make a difference. The keywords are “camping GS”.

Well if we’re on the topic of organised groups again, then GS was rendered inefficient as of yesterday’s patch and scholar still remains the dominant rune choice along with camping axe AA with an empowered build and 30 in Arms.

Not every organized group as in non PUG not super organized speedrunners runs 2xeles or thieves have might spamming. I am not sure in that scenario you can keep 25 stacks up permanently (then again not much lasts that long in a maxed out party) and maintain >90% health.

I primarily PUG dungeons and open world ie do not have an organized group so I will stick with the more conservative approach with runes of strength.

In any case how is this RIP zerker build?

only 2 eles? hahaha what a noob how is everyone going to have a FGS with only 2 eles? If your group doesn’t have 3 eles at least you aren’t even playing the game as far as I’m concerned.

FGS ele DPS > a warrior axe axe burst? Dunno havent tried it – guess Zepidel doesnt play with 99% of GW2 population.

FGS ele DPS > combined DPS of 2 warriors (against a wall).

You could say 3 if you take into account the extra FGS for your ranger/mesmer.

Against a wall. And you are telling me that FGS ele has 10K DPS fully decked out? Can you post a link with the actual numbers, as well as a comparison when walls aren’t available?

Warrior has nothing against ele

You may as well play a video of COF P2 eles owning the rock. It would interesting to see the warriors numbers.

Good luck finding a party now that more people are TRYING DIFFERENT THINGS. I can almost guarantee you’ll spend more time looking for your ideal party than it would take to just get over yourself and do the kitten dungeon.

Absolutely false. Damage is still the meta. No one who was using zerker gear will be changing to other stats. Those who were using Assassins (which were better in some cases) will be moving to zerkers as Assassins got hit hard by the nerf.

In fact, more people will end up playing zerkers because groups will now be less accepting of having a non-zerker in the group.

Its the inverse of the quickness nerf – mesmers was hit hardest by that whereas other classes were compensated for the nerf.

In this nerf, all zerk non warrior classes (with the exception of staff guard and blast eles) will be hit harder instead because of runes of strength and easy might stacking by warrior.

In short warriors in full ascended gear with runes of strength and 2nd sigil of strength GS hit nearly as hard pre-nerf, all other classes with same gear can go suck it. Anet balance team’s “fix” – if in doubt, buff warrior/nerf the other classes.

Funnily enough I am not really complaining as it doesn’t really affect me that much.

7. Story – This is an issue too. Story of GW2 overall is just a lackluster compared to the first game. The thing that still keeps me playing TESO isn’t the game really. It’s the quests, story, plot and lore. They’re all incredibly well done and hell lot of fun.
Somehow Zenimax managed to make interesting, thrilling l, exciting and not obvious, mature plots and quests with the same PEGI as GW2..

Hi I agree with most your post but I would like to point out that TESO is PEGI-16 whereas GW2 is PEGI-12.

My opinion about mechanics in GW2 PVE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

I use a perma-chill build with frost drake and frost trap. It has its moments. A lot of people underestimate perma-chill on bosses or mini-bosses if they are unable to remove it, even at the expense of DPS in the case of bosses that cannot be burst down as quickly.

Spotter is nice but speccing 20 in Marksmenship is a bit expensive for me. The other 3 traits are just not desirable.

Isn’t bosses immune to the CD increase of chill?

edit:

Putting 30 points in Marsmanship gives 300 power (great) and 30% condi duration (can be good with vulnerability) meanwhile giving both you and the pet Opening strike with a guaranteed crit and those apply vuln, which is good at the start of the fight.
Also changing Remorseless to Signet of the beastmaster enables you to go invulnerable for 12 sec (15 if you are sylvari) which can be good in dredge fractal for example. But yeah, power is for exploiters, stack defensive stats.

Err no. <Sarcasm>A one-off one guaranteed crit + 6s of possible 10 stacks of vuln so OP. </Sarcasm> esp in boss fights. +300 power is nice Condi duration not so much if you are not a condi ranger. I dont need 20/30% additional condi duration what is already a perm chill build. So many other traits that are not useful unless u want go bearbow. You can always make up the stats with your gear.

I am not sure if bosses skills are immune to chill CD but even slow movement and slow skill activation (not sure about this either, but animation of special attacks seems slower) seems to be worth it. I forgot to mention its AOE perma chill esp with twin sigils of hydromancy albeit with a small radius that deals with swarms of mobs nicely.

Btw 12s of invul is a best case scenario which uses 2 util skill slots with lengthy cooldowns.

Seriously who insults people who don’t pick the Marksmanship trait line for PVE and in his case speccing fully into it?

Ranger must use spotter and frost spirit (those that don’t are a waste of space honestly, and there are A LOT of you out there)

Spirits are useless they die very easily and u have to trait for them to be movable. Not everyone specs into marksmanship. That kind of build is only good for COF P1 and frost spirit would be bad even at SE P1.

This is why no one wants rangers in their group, they camp bearbow and dont have anything at all to contribute to the party. Spotter is 6-8% crit chance… thats HUGE in a zerk group dps wise, and badly placed spirits will die… you need to learn how to use them, they have 1k radius not like you need to be placing them at the bosses feet.

I mean at that point you a just a warrior camping longbow and not using banners.

I use a perma-chill build with frost drake and frost trap. It has its moments. A lot of people underestimate perma-chill on bosses or mini-bosses if they are unable to remove it, even at the expense of DPS in the case of bosses that cannot be burst down as quickly.

ESO’s problem is it feels so dead. NPC’s stand, sit, but basically do nothing. They don’t have conversations with each others (although they do talk to themselves). The combat mechanics are terrible. Melee range is a huge radius and you don’t need to be close to anything to kill it Also, it has LESS skills than GW2 and the combat is based on a console FPS combat. You can’t make a good looking character – they all look like they are ‘strung out’.

The Imperial Race lockout IS NOT the same what GW2 does. You can play all the races in GW2, you just get some bling and a finisher – totally different. If you think Mist Wolves are a good elite, you haven’t used the others, it is very mediocre at best.

In ESO, as in SWTOR, they spent there money on actors doing voices, but unlike SWTOR, that is all they did. Michael Gambon as one and John Cleese as the other big voice and all I thought was, this was a waste of time.

During the beta, other players talked about how free the exploration was. Well, I did that and I can tell you it was NOT very explorable. I hit more glass walls than in GW1 and almost every building you walk into is it’s own little map, zoning is everywhere and annoying.

I did not participate in the Beta – from what I heard from others who did it was greatly improved at launch. You talk as if GW2 NPCs do anything different apart from being background animation at best.

As for voice-acting, you don’t know who are the other big names are do u? Theres Kate Beckinsale and Malcolm McDonell etc. Is it money well spent? Well put it this way, I seriously doubt that people will buy the game simply because of their star-power, they had a nice budget to hire really talented actors thats all. I would be more concerned if they hired Selena Gomez or the Glee cast to do the voice acting.

“If you think Mist Wolves are a good elite, you haven’t used the others, it is very mediocre at best.”

Seriously this is what I block people for in-game. No it does very good DPS, has good health and has a short CD and is the best DPS summon elite apart from Asura Golem series-7 and summon Thieves Guild, the former being a racial elite and the latter a class elite. It has become my default elite on my sylvari Guardian in most situations. Why would any so-called GW2 “fans” trash that skill is beyond me – if its “mediocre”, then a lot of other elite skills are equally as mediocre.

Combat mechanics are different – you can’t really compare the two and not everyone likes more skills, which is why GW2 doesnt have as many skills as WoW.

I dont deny there is greater customization in character building in GW2 and better aesthetics imho but its not the basis of a game with longevity.

“The PvP is also NOT that good – it is too big and too dependent on zergs.”

Sounds like GW2 WvW. And I hate GW2 PVP – no matter how many tweaks there are to class balance to the detriment of PvE, it is destined to be a “esport” flop.

Calling it a mass exodus, then, is at the very least extremely misleading. Do you have numbers of any kind to support this mass exodus? Do you know how many people are playing now as compared to six months ago?

Same question can be applied to you. Unless you are Anet you have no idea.

Or, once the sale is over, they will list highly active servers as “Full” and less active servers as “Moderate” or “High” so newer players must select less populated servers instead of the most active ones, to spread the population around.

Then when the next sale comes they will increase the caps again, so the influx of new players can select from all servers again because even the “Full” servers are losing players over time and those players have to be replaced.

And to restate for one more time: the server population shows how many accounts are registered on a server, it’s a value that can change by Anet on the fly (by tweaking the cap) so the newer players have a better understanding of which server is more active than the others.

And it has nothing to do directly with the game losing players due to other games being released or about to be released or anything of the sort. I’m not claiming the game isn’t losing players, because it IS, as all games do, but due to the sale it’s also gaining more players as well.

All this in-before the lock since people turned this into a <random new game> vs GW2 thread again…

Except that server “populations” (misnomer it should read: cap – registered players) have decreased universally and not tweaked for redistribution purposes.

Perhaps its only guild chat atm. I just remember a lot of LA’s “banter” went on after I blocked some people – maybe its not the same people I blocked.

Another thing – some people I don’t block for chat at all, some for being super nubs or noobs who refuse to communicate at all. I wish I can put them on separate temporary block lists as the chatters, as well as my permanent kitten list.

Usually I lean more to the “elitist” side of arguments, but I have to say, you lost all sympathy there. Why not have an autoblock of anyone below 3000 AP for you or something like that?

Of course TESO has new zones. It’s a new game.

But the idea that the quests weren’t generic just because they were dark and voiced? Absolutely nothing in that game that made me feel like I was playing an elder scrolls game and you know…I’m not the only person who had this problem. A lot of Elder Scrolls fans are equally annoyed.

Err no, it has new zones added after one month of release – not just the zones that were in the release.

As if you weren’t swinging the sword over and over again and mashing the F button in GW2 quests.

I dont really want to discuss ESO on a GW2 forum – but its my honest opinion about that game. I dont know how many people can realistically play two MMOs simultaneously though.

Oh yes – loads of FedEx quests and not much else. Artificial barriers preventing the player from truly exploring the world of Tamriel (the very essence of EVERY ES game) and some of the most laughable, phoned-in voice acting I’ve heard in years.

The wonders of a triple-dip payment system – box, sub and cash shop (not to mention an entire race locked behind a paywall). Of course they can afford to churn out new dungeons to grind every month!

Well imho the voice acting is at least on par or better with GW2’s voice acting – they even got John Cleese saying a few lines. Unless you dont know who John Cleese is of course.

http://www.ign.com/articles/2014/01/23/the-elder-scrolls-online-voice-cast-includes-john-cleese-and-dumbledore

Err no, its not a “triple dip” system. Go watch popular Twitch streamers playing ESO, people keep repeating the same misconceptions about the cash shop – its only selling a mid tier horse that can be bought with in game gold.

As for a race being locked behind a “pay-wall” yes well its a one time off $20 increase much like how digital edition GW2 was initally released without the option to buy using gems restricting use of one of the best summon elite skills. The race bonuses arent imbalanced in anyway – its just a personal preference.

I love how people think something “light” is necessarily for younger people. There’s a whole lot of older people who don’t like dark as well. And those people have plenty of money to spend on gaming.

I’d personally prefer a darker storyline, but ESO was so generic, it wasn’t the darker storyline I was looking for.

How is ESO generic? There are so many quests, far more than GW2, involving multiple storylines that are beyond a children’s storybook and deal with mature content and have much more quality voice-acting – not to say GW2 voice acting is bad but its sparser.

As for the"older people with lots of money" to spend on gaming, imagine the cries of righteous indignation if SAB was to be put behind a paywall.

You must understand that to many new players we’re talking MMORPG vs MMORPG, and they don’t give a crap about GW/TES lore since they’re new to both. Or rather, even if you don’t agree, it doesn’t change their decision making at all.

In such an instance, the king is value-for-money, and because it’s that much more expensive, TESO can’t ever compare with GW2 for that. The people I know here are starting to join GW2, steadily… though my community in itself is slow to join MMORPGs.

Man I am really tired of logging in daily just to craft my mats for ascended daily, or killing Teq daily for months and not see a Sunless weapon, going to COF P1 for the ten thousandth time. Even guild missions become a drag.

Whereas in TESO, new zones and new dungeons are rolled out at the end of month for people who level cap very quickly. This is within the first month of launch. Whatever your criticism of Zenimax, they dont sit on their behind.

Population falling ?

What Gumball said. It’s mathematically impossible for the population of all servers to drop, they only increase or transfer from one world to another. This isn’t a subscription MMORPG.

The population fraction can drop if the capacity is increased. The capacity must be increased because you don’t want a whole group of new players raging on the forums that they can’t join their friends for those worlds being full.

And if anything, people I know are JOINING the game in relatively high numbers, because of how the pricing for TESO turned out – the game they were waiting for at first. Let’s face it, even players who really, really like the TES franchise might feel the game is 3, maybe 5 times better than Guild Wars 2, but for it to be worth the purchase, relative to a 50% discounted GW2, it’d literally have to be 10+ times better than GW2.

That is pretty much impossible.

I played RuneScape for several years, so it’s possible. That said, that was because of the XP malus in F2P – within 14 months of creation a P2P account I simply 99-ed every skill (16 of them in one massive firework party at the end), level capped and quit.

GW2 I’ve level capped for some time, and continue to play.

You are comparing a PG quaggan friendly Living Story franchise to a darker M fantasy franchise filled to the brim with Elder Scrolls lore? Apples and oranges.

Of course, the target market of the former would find the sub fee too expensive. Personally I dont like the sub fee but I dont intend to play every 30 days.

Just a reminder: Anet announced serveal times that server population is counted by accounts registered, not but active player-base, therefore, a server falling in population is literally impossible, unless they change the capacity or change the counting system.

Mega-server is coming and sale have been under way for a while now, Anet therefore have been tweaking the servers.

I see, so if the servers dont reach “Full” again means the sale hasnt been very successful or they overestimated the number of new players? I had assumed server population has been counted by the number of active players – guess MMO companies want to keep that number a secret.

Blocking people in GW2? not really

I had a blocked person in my party and did not see what they typed, do not see them in map chat or say chat. Not really sure what you mean.

Perhaps its only guild chat atm. I just remember a lot of LA’s “banter” went on after I blocked some people – maybe its not the same people I blocked.

Another thing – some people I don’t block for chat at all, some for being super nubs or noobs who refuse to communicate at all. I wish I can put them on separate temporary block lists as well as the chatters apart from my permanent kitten list.

No RNG is truly random, but the better ones feed values of high precision into a chaos function to give a better semblance of randomness.

Only the people who coded the GW2 RNG algorithm know how it works here.

Knowing how the algorithm works is one thing, but does anyone at Anet actually do a statistical analysis to check the bias isn’t too biased?

You sure you’re blocking the right person? It works fine for me.

Blocked people will still show up in map and guild chat. I am not really that petty to take notice but its one of a few things that Anet devs seem to resist doing for the sake of “socialization” such as the dragging of their feet over the LFG tool.

you will have your time, I felt the same way then in the same month I got 4 precursors..

1 & 2: Was trying my luck with 100g in the forge for The Colossus to make juggernaut, 2 forges in I got one… forged the rest for the hell of it and got another towards the end.

3. A week later I dumped 40g into the forge to do my “mystic Forgesmith” daily requirement… Got Dawn from it.

4. about 2 weeks later fighting Yaks Bend in Briar just before I died I spammed ’F" on a chest and got Leaf of Kadzu. (Pic)

Before that I have had nothing, and since then I have put a tonne of gold into forge for nothing so now I went back to only “trying” when doing the forge is a quick way to get daily done.

May we know how many hrs do you have on your account?

Can we get some d/c grace please

Try DCing in a dungeon / Teq / Wurm a few seconds before completion. Its even worse. All the time spent and no rewards / completion status.

In addition, why arent places reserved in overflow maps for people who DC and given a grace period of a few minutes to reconnect?

GW2 blocking system is unique to say the least – in other games and MMOs ignore command does what it says and filters out all chat from the person you want to ignore.

One of GW2’s idiosyncrasies that has never been fully explained after two years.

ArenaNet has raised the server caps twice in the past. Considering the half-off sales promotion, and the amount of posts from new players, they thought it best to raise the caps once again.

I gather you know this because Anet announced this previously. If there were no news from Anet, I would just go ahead and say people are taking a break or are moving on.

I would also add to that, I have had a chaos gun drop in WvW, have had dusk from PvE near launch and have had dawn drop TWICE. Where from you say? CHAMP BAGS!

Please merge with Precursor Rage thread. This is what I mentioned about outrageous luck – how is it possible that a person can get 4 precursor drops whereas others with possibly many more attempts / boxes open get 0. I can accept probably 2 or the maximum 3, but 4? This would indicate a serious problem with the RNG.

Fix the LFG abusement allready!

It means that a player/players make open slots for others to join the group at the end of a dungeon. Those who join the group then pay a sum of gold in order to kill the last boss and get the full reward.

Those who have fought their way thorugh the dungeon will get more gold for their effort and the buyer will get the items they need for a few gold and less time spent inside that dungeon.

Most likely the “item” they want is the title dungeon master. Its for people who do not want to play the dungeons legit and nothing to do with “saving time”.

How on earth has dungeon selling been a obstacle to anyone “wanting to be better at game”? How? Please explain.

Dungeons are bought cause people want tokens (and in AC, experience for lvling). If youre rich then why waste time doing the same path over and over and over again just to get some tokens. Why?

If you want to go and “improve your experience (laughing here for obvious reason)” then sellers have never been an obstacle. Never!

You still need empyreal shards and the fastest path of every dungeon should provide enough tokens for whatever gear u want in time if you are competent enough – no need to be so “skillful” to solo content whatsover.

Theres a reason why no one ever “sells” places in COF P1.

Its too much to expect from a b2p non sub game. Again my opinion.

And more action is coming by the way of SAB whereas in another MMO, a new Adventure Zone awaits at the end of the month within the first month of release for content rushers which does not involve blocky 16 bit graphics.

Nope, that’s not a legitimate reason to demand a change, sorry.

How about if myself and a buddy of mine kick you from a dungeon right before the end so we can get our guildmate in? Naw, that’s never happened in the entire history of the game – right?

Also, griefing is still grief. Just because you cannot solo a dungeon and sell it doesn’t mean you are devoid of empathy for someone who can and is then griefed.

If anything elitists should be happy at this. After all, how can people be better at the game if they can just buy their way to completion of a dungeon and not learn how to play their character properly?

Please no infraction Anet, the term “better” is a just an opinion and not directed at anyone in particular.

Does banning a class improve quality of life?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

I’m going to bring up a piece of anecdotal information, but I promise I have a point.

One time I was in a Fractal, and we got Molten for our final boss. We all died, except the one pug we had (was a guild run, mostly) soloed the berserker down from 75% to 0% giving us the revive. This PUG was a 13K AP Necromancer.

My group was stunned. I mean, we had been carried, the entire run, by a Necromancer Achievement Hunter… How could that be?

Moral:

In my opinion, it isn’t the class, the gear check, the achievement points, etc that determines the QoL of a given run. It’s the bloody RNG. This is why initiatives like the Dungeon Mentor guild and the other initiatives are so important. By doing this, we are improving the PUG Roulette RNG, one student at a time.

Class banning has its place in speed running. However, in my opinion, to expect a PUG to be speed running quality is foolhardy. I’ve had fun fractals and dungeons with all classes. Especially this shortbow cutie.

Not surprised that necro can carry for a few bosses but not all. That used to be the case more often before the DS nerf. Ironically I think the worst class to solo a boss would be the guardian because of low hp and all the skills equipped for support.
