- Personally I dont mind the plush toy backpacks. Women DO play this game you know, not to sound sexist.
- As for endgame content, I agree but since it is a B2P I dont mind waiting patiently for the next expansion / major update.
- As for SAB being a month long event, I have problems with the discordant aesthetics and immersion breaking factor. Just a tot experiment, what if Irrational Games created the equivalent of SAB DLC for Bioshock Infinite? I personally wouldn’t mind but I have a strong feeling that the players of that game will.

The game sold incredibly well, exceeding expectations and continues to make money through gem store sales. So of course they won’t even consider an expansion, they’re all going to retire, shut down the servers, and abandon their customers. Because that’s what successful companies do after they produce a hit, right?

I mean, after George Lucas was finished with the one Star Wars movie, he said “I’m glad people liked it, but really, I don’t want to revisit these characters or anything, I’m moving on.”

And what band ever releases a second album? They just make a few bucks and go back to school so the band members can get their CPA licenses.

Off topic: Google one hit wonders.

I suggest a win win scenario. Do something like FC3: Blood Dragon (SAB version) and sell it for $15 on Steam and Anet store. Judging by the enthusiasm from the SAB fans, they surely wouldn’t mind paying that bit of money for it.

The SAB team is pretty much as large as the maximum party size in this game, not to mention that live work teams are divided evenly…and that they’re design teams, it’s not their job to fix bugs.

Exactly they get paid to do some magical kitten like SAB which some people like. Unless they are Anet interns.

Difficulty finding group to go into dungeons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khal Drogo.9631

I find dungeons to be such a hassle to do.

You spend 15 minutes making a group through a 3rd party site, then you spend 15 minutes clearing the group event to unlock it. You always have to pray someone has completed SM to open it, and someone always leaves after the 1st patch causing tou to repeat the process.

You spend 25-30 minutes prepping for a 10 minute dungeon.

While you are in a queue (like queueing for WvW for example) you could always help clear in the meantime. LF4M doesnt always work when people post their ads superseding your group form request.

Ranger’s Rampage As One Elite Skill is the equivalent of some other classes util skill. Stability is a situational boon but a very useful one granted. For example if you are going up against Old Tom it would be useless.

I would like to say some racial elites (and utils for that matter) are very useful especially to certain classes in terms of synergy and in some situations which the class lacks access to a particular cleanse / debuff / buff / summon but I am afraid of the nerf bat, so I will just leave it at that

Completely agree since mesmers are not expected to contribute much by way of DPS, you should have told those l33t warriors they did not do their job. I do believe OP was unlucky enough to become the scapegoat for their mistakes.

An efficient run of CoF P1 is 5m30s – 6m for comparison. Next time you see those warriors – tell them to l2p. :P

If I am not mistaken, you must be in a fixed group and maxed everything to the hilt to get 5 min 30s – 6 min consistently and not have a single mistake when it comes to the effigy + cleared the acolytes without any random CC affecting any of the team.

Obvious example of an ‘elite’ responding. It’s never their fault, it’s always something someone else should of done. Btw, the op was not a novice if you took the time to read his post you would have realised that.

Some of the “steps” mentioned aren’t necessary like pullback of slave driver onto wall (in fact may even be longer because everyone has to walk those few steps further). What I do is illusionary leap, immobilze the guy, everyone stack, Cast Tw, phantasmal warden + 4 H/Bs, blurred frenzy + a few 4 auto attacks and slave driver dead. Most of the times I dont even have time to cast Signet of Inspiration.

Provided the warriors slam all the offensive banners into ground 1st and readied their FGJ.

Khal Drogo.9631

You’re right, they didn’t set up those speed runs to educate mesmers and we’re not as fast as you are at picking up little things by observing. I’m used to being asked to ping gear and when party leaders ask me how experienced I am I say I’ve done this dungeon path at least 30 times before because I have. But I didn’t expect to encounter those kinds of people in COF as I haven’t even encountered that kind of extreme elitism and rudeness in fotm 40+ parties.

I don’t think you get it. Let me try to explain.

In a good group I can do speed run in 6 minutes. In your case your group did in 10 minutes.

Now let’s make some assumption. Let’s presume every cof speed run net 90 silver. So in 10 hours my group can make 90 gold. But in your group I can only make 54 gold.

As far as I can tell, there is a big difference between 90 gold and 54. Do you start to get it now?

Err I dont do pushback on to wall and feedback on turret (heres the kicker: my armor is knights with a combo of berzerker / cavalier accesories as a phantasm build) but my speed run clears are consistently 6 1/2 minutes with good 4 warrior pugs who never asked for MY gear ping (warrior gear may be understandable though).

And you know something about some mesmers; they are so conditioned to do pushback even though they are in parties with 0 warriors and 2 thieves.

It has something to do with you must play the way some kittens play.

(Hint: I use signet of inspiration + battle roar; no nerfs pls).

I dont mind waiting for more new content for core GW2 (some may call it Hello Kitty, that’s respect for you). As for SAB fans, good news: Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon awaits. Not quite the same genre but same nostalgia factor.

It will be helpful if Anet announced their long term plans formally and Anet actually survey their entire playerbase via email, not just the ones on the forums.

Mate, they don’t have a problem with design and programming talent. They have a management problem. They need people who can manage.

The attention to detail in this game is sometimes extremely high, and sometimes non-existent. You can tell when different people designed different things. They can’t release new content without breaking things. Their reactions to exploiters are generally knee-jerk. Their priorities are inconsistent (for example – they encourage group play with guild challenges, yet toss group play out the window with individual leaderboards).

My point is, it’s obvious as hell that there is no one guiding hand setting the policy and vision for this game. The lack of leadership to keep it under control, consistent, and focused is preventing this game from adding any real depth to it. It’s a mile wide, yes, but only an inch deep.

They don’t need designers. They need a really good project manager. Oh, and a solid philosophy to provide focus.

Well I am not a game designer but I had a discussion about Castle Greyskull with another player in WvW map chat. I was waxing lyrical about how cool it would be to have it in an actual game. This got me thinking about one of the aspects of movie and fantasy castles which is traps and secret passages. I am not a big fan of jumping puzzles, but I like the EB jumping puzzle – it is pretty fun esp the PvP aspects of it. It is strange that Stonemist castle only has the direct approach and not puzzles and traps akin to EB JP for an alternative route into it and which can be linked to the existing EB JP map.

I am just giving an example of how I feel the game design can be improved upon, instead of adding a 8 bit 3d platformer.

P.S Pretty sure I read about my suggestion in some other thread as well.

You mentioned stealing experienced dungeon designers from other companies. There’s not much choice in that regard. Most top tier people are working for a handful of companies, Blizzard was merely an example. Good luck stealing them. Good luck keeping them if money’s all they’re interested in.

There are many good dungeon developers, not just from Blizzard. The only issue is they design dungeons for single player and small coop games. Whether their design can be integrated into GW2 is another issue.

Is Blizzard the only other company you can think of?

That’s assuming those people are willing to leave AND assuming those people are willing to leave without demanding absurdly high paychecks. Some of those people can realistically demand 6 figures a year. Furthermore they have extreme loyalty to their company so stealing them is very difficult. Besides, do you want someone who ran away from his previous company?

That suggestion falls in the easier said than done category.

Yes. Companies aren’t the mafia and loyalty means jack squat. Btw I heard there was a new Yahoo CEO since last year.

That’s an attitude that won’t get you hired. Most big companies require a bit of loyalty, so if you leave a good company, they will see that as a lack of loyalty towards the new company. It depends on circumstances of course, but leaving blizzard after 2 years means you’ll most likely not be hired by a.net. They won’t train someone who just leaves after 2 years.

We’re not talking scrub companies here. A.net is a top tier developer, and they only hire top tier employees. Loyalty is a quality required for top tier people. Without loyalty, you’re second tier at best, which means you’ll not be hired by a.net. So let’s not compare apples to oranges.

I’m working for a top tier company too, if I’d leave before the 5 year mark, I’d never be hired by a similar company again. I have an implicit obligation to return on their investment, given how an employee usually doesn’t earn money before the 1 year mark and doesn’t break even before the 2 years mark.

Let me get this straight. The OP’s mistake was:
1. Didnt pull slave driver into the wall.
2. Didnt time warp fast enough.
3. Didn’t cast feedback fast enough.

And for that you get kicked? OMG I am so thankful for being in my guild then. I’d have been kicked a hundred times over by such people. I ran several CoF p1 farms recently. We never really did #1, is it really THAT necessary? As for the other 2 points, well, I get that some people want to do fast runs and all but I feel like that just crosses the line. It’s not like the OP didn’t do it at all.

1. Not really necessary. All speed runs without pull still result in 20s-30s kills by competent non-“elitist” 4 warriors.
2. Read above. I set up my phantasms then cast my TW sometimes.
3. Read above w.r.t the 2 shamans and turrets. Don’t even cast feedback at all.

Nothing against Robert Hrouda, he has done a good job with story dungeons and in general, its just that I played games with better setpieces (exciting, interesting, etc.) for combat regardless of difficulty. Whether is this the result of designing for a MMO instead of a smaller coop game I dunno.
2. Listen to feedback from the general population instead of just the 2% of the playerbase.
3. Release standalones for content that is thematically different from the rest of the game. Eg Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon.

GL with that. I have a feeling that even with more melee evades and 50% more endurance regen, using a ranger is going to be more difficult than a necro as the weapon evades does not make u invulnerable to everything because of the very limited window of evasion on the ranger skills.

P.S. I don’t care for SAB either. I also have zero desire to get ascended gear, play fractals (though I have to admit, the one where you become a dolphin was pretty fun) or get a legendary weapon. Guess I’m a noob. But at least I’m a happy noob.

Khal Drogo.9631

Don’t you know it’s against forum rules to say something positive about this game? lol

Actually it’s nice to see the occasional positive post. I really like SAB too. On the topic of the Living Story, it would have been a lot better, to me, if they didn’t promote it heavily. It raised people’s expectations.

Part of the reason SAB went over so well is no one expected it. No one was waiting for it. It came out of left field and it was cool. If they’d done that with the Living Story and not really explained it, it probably would have roped more people in.

At very least, more people would have been speculating about it.

Perpetual blinkers on, quietly ignoring SAB negative feedback.

I didn’t really care about SAB until I read the forums and realized there is an active campaign for more of this stuff. I paraphase from someone else in the forum that said that SAB did “violence” to the aesthetic and the immersion of the game. Then I read the word “mutilation”. To me that word pretty much sums up the feeling I get when seeing the grinning 8 bit cloud that mocks me everytime I go to GW2.com and have to bear with it until April is over. It then proclaims in no uncertain terms that if I hate SAB, I must hate GW2 and if I bought GW2 for GW2, I am part of a poor minority demographic from a non-developed country that the Devs intensely dislike and furthermore I am typing in a language that is apparently automatically translated into English by the forum.

A dozen posts = half the player base and being called elitist is an insult as compared to “whining”.

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

quickness wasn’t. timewarp was. when I first heard of time warp, I knew it was an elite (so it should be better than most utility skills), so I guessed it would last maybe 4-5 seconds. NOPE. much better than that.
personally, I would prefer twice as long at 1/2 the effect to how it was. instead, they just dropped it to 1/2 the effect :P so now TW is normalized, but all other quickness skills last half as long as they should.

You forget TW has a 210s CD with no way of reducing the CD whatsover. And how was TW overpowered? Can you quote specifically which encounter TW trivialized, apart for COF P1? Taking a slightly shorter time to kill a boss is not the same thing as “trivializing”.

Yes, do read the guides and prepare yourself to re-learn some of the encounters you thought you knew. Spider Queen is now a real boss and its adds do real damage. Kohler needs to be fought with his adds which nearly nobody did (and skipping him has become difficult). Focus your reading on the last bosses, they have received the major changes.

Regarding the whole “this should be an introductory dungeon” discussion, I think you all tend to forget why Anet has hands tied on that one. This dungeon grants token that allow you to buy Exotic lvl 80 gear. Without making any change to this fact, they can’t make it simple enough for levels 35 to do it, or level 80 to farm it. And for those of you who will tell me Citadel of Flames gives tokens as well, you are absolutely right. Expect the nerf bat to hit it very soon.

Anet has just made vendored exo weapons unsalvageable, so its not a matter of hands being tied. If all they wanted was to stop people from farming, they could have made AC much more difficult.

I would have been fine if they had just changed the spider queen and nothing else.

I love how people seem to think that Anet employees are all some kind of gods that can literally work on any part of the game. As cool as that would be, it is unfortunately not the case. The people that work at Anet do different jobs. The ones that worked on the SAB are not the same ones that would do any of the things some of the entitled people here say they should be.

What the SAB does do is prove a concept: puzzle dungeons and puzzle bosses can exist in an MMORPG format and people will play them.

The “entitled” people “demand” to know whether is this going to be a permanent feature of the game, since the concept is “proven”. Maybe NCSoft is planning a platformer MMO and GW2 is the testbed. Or whether does it bring in needed revenue for GW2?

Is Guild Wars 2 Doing Well?

To me, GW2 is easily the best MMO since WoW, and is currently the best – “best” meaning (again, to me) the best and most forward-looking, the freshest and the most fun to actually play.

Having said that, I’m burned out on it about 700 hours of very casual play in. As a game, that places it in my list of all-time most played games. As an MMO, it’s still second best – after WoW.

It has not become the ‘next step’ in MMO’s I hoped it would. It’s very close in places, but there’s a list of things which keeps it away from being a true classic.

Yes, it is doing well and will continue to do so. I’m still confident it can grow into its own and become what I think many of us hoped it would be, but the clock is ticking.

Just to add: whatever else happens, GW2 is a remarkably beautiful game, crafted with so much obvious love and skill that I feel a bit bad typing what I just did, and ANet’s success has been hard fought, and well earned. Good luck to us all !

+1. It surely has the best graphics in an MMO so far. I am a noob MMO player I wouldnt have a lot of XP but by looking at D3 and WoW in Youtube, no thanks. Maybe there is some Japanese / Korean MMO that is even better looking but I dont know either languages so ….

IMHO, Anet has to be really careful about their game design; because their game design could have profound effects on GW2’s non-subscription business model, in comparison to a subscription one. Bandwidth and servers cost money to run and maintain right?

Not only that, but who they choose to compete with. Esports – I think of DoTA, HoN, SC2, Fifa (no offense the world doesnt just comprise of Americans). SAB – Minecraft + N64 emulators on iphone/android + the millions of casual platformers.

SAB is meant for platforming (with a bit of combat) / old school console fans, you don’t have to bring in demographics into play here such as age etc.

I liked other genres better for example Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis and Xwing etc in my youth and I have always been a primarily a PC gamer.

The only thing I liked about Mario was the suits he could get; which he could use to interact with the environment and fight bosses in different ways. Otherwise I wasn’t interested in a genre with storylines meant for ages < 8 and no payoff whatsover.

Story dungeon design > explorer path design for most dungeons. Notwithstanding difficulty variance.

Is New AC dying?

There are over 20 people who have have done the dungeon in the past 30 minutes and that’s not counting those that deleted their entry. You cannot say a dungeon is dying just because it doesn’t have a constant inflow of whatever you consider new listings. The ONLY dungeon that has that is CoF for Path 1. All of the other dungeons have considerable less people attempting them on gw2lfg.

Only Anet will have the stats on AC. If you compare the number of entries pre and post nerf, it is very obvious.

The other dungeons were never popular to begin with, except probably for CM until a few months after launch and about the same level for TA.

I didnt declare AC to be completely dead, I asked a question that would reveal people’s inclinations and a bit of “We told you so”.

I would say maybe 20-30 minutes. It’s not bad at all if you know what you’re doing.

If 3 of you know what you are doing + high enough dps / bring an ele. That was the same as old “effortless” AC.
