It’s just a joke dude, an April Fools joke-spirited event. It will be gone soon enough.

It’s all celebratory, no need to get all grumpy because of it. I love that ANet likes to celebrate the holidays with the players too. Loosen up and give it a try, no reason to get all bent out of shape dude, sheesh.

Actually the devs have reminded me of older better games in terms of design and “balance”. Off to play them on my Android phone. Have fun beating more monkeys.

35 y/o too, and I love the music. You must have have not been a true gamer.

Side scolling or top down 2D GW2 shooter next pls. Would be very cool if you have 8 different classes to choose from, each with their own strengths but not 1 super powerful and 1 super weak. Would be even cooler if you have many many boss fights with different mechanics and awesome animations on bosses. Totally awesome if you actually have varying ways to get to the bosses.

Epic is when you have 5 coop play to take down SUPER MEGA UBER ULTRA ULTIMATE Badkitten Boss with your attacks instead of a scripted Mega Laser.

Ahh, such a true post.

What I find baffling about this thread are the people who, as entitled to their opinions as they may be, are shocked at the “kind of game” this is.

How could you have not done a little homework and clearly seen this was not a grimdark or Tolkien high fantasy game. It doesn’t really suggest “traditional fantasy” at all. I think it was very obvious that this game was not going to be a serious affair.

I suppose I watched a few reviews (as well as the ads and the manifesto) describing the gameplay graphics etc but not actually the theme and the premise on which GW2’s overall future gameplay development was going to be. I am not going to ask for my money back but I mean if Anet wants MORE of my money …

Uh, yeah you did:

“They created a beautiful fantasy world, and then they’ve done everything
they could to make you remember in every step you take, that this is a game
and not a world.”

Not whining. Is it wise to keep doing things to satisfy one portion of the playerbase while turning off another portion and potential players as well? In reference to another thread, this isnt a revolutionary feature that people will buy this game for.

As a GW2 player, idc. I have a lot of apathy towards GW2 since 26/03 and if devs want to devote resources (hopefully not the main dev team) to this new feature so be it.

As a long time consumer of video games in general, my viewpoint is this: I understand everyone’s concept of fun is different. But isnt that why there are a literally a million games out there, with their own particular hook and their fanbase? Even a Flash based game could produce hours of fun, not to mention the IPhone and Android mini games competing for consumers’ time. The lack of focus doesnt seem to be a good decision to me and I really dont understand the need for filler content in the video game industry at all.

This is because ice bow etc skills do not suffer from scaling.

Does Downed state need to be changed?

I don’t think it needs to be removed as it’s pretty unique for an mmo and is part of what makes this one so different.

However the only part I find annoying is the one push/fear/port/etc ability every character has. Maybe limit that in spvp. I don’t want nerfs rather innovation.

Unfortunately every PVP suggestion w.r.t skills are not delinked from PvE.

Traits are though.

I started playing a couple of weeks after launch. I don’t PVP and never went into a dungeon.

As for offering PVE-focused rewards for PVP, that just kittens off the vocal minority who enjoy PVP because PVE players are usually pretty bad at it. It’s best when the only motivation to PVP is PVP.

Eventually you will go into dungeons. Why wouldnt the vocal minority want more PVP noobs to kill? A lot of PVE builds dont work well in PvP and vice versa.

Survey: Guild Wars 2, the revolutionary MMO?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

I said just another MMO simply because I found everything to be medicore. I like the concept of what ArenaNet had planned but everythign so far led me to believe that they only half dipped their foot on something greater out of fear that it might a failure.

What do I mean by medicore? Well ….

1) Dynamic Events: Next to WvWvW, this was one of the main features advertised in GW2. Yet although technically it does change the world, theres barely any impact. So an entire village gets burned down- oh well I’ll just wait 10 minutes for a safety net quest so I can return the village back to its orginal state. Each dynamic events imo are too independent and occurs far too often from the meta. It would have felt more dynamic if everything was linked (similar to how Orr Straits of Devastation and Temple of Balth works).

2) WvWvW: Although I still enjoy WvW, in the end its just a battle for points. I was expecting there to be an end-goal for the week with objective of taking their capital fortress similar to Minas Tirith battle from LOTR but all we got is zerg fest of one keep to another with no strategical value asides from claiming points.

3) Story: I have yet met one person who have said “The story was amazing! WOW! Kudos ArenaNet”. The common reply I get instead is “Meh. Okay voice acting. Terrible ending” and I have to agree with the common. Granted its a very subjective subject but the story was very dull with lots of lame deaths. I only remember ONE decent death, your mentor and even then I can barely his name (vigil guy). The story keeps dumping you with mediocre characters you only meet for 30 seconds with their death that is supposed to evoke feelings? To make it worse, the majority of the voice acting is just horrid (take Lionguard in claw island as example). Where is Destinity’s Edge? Instead of building a story with them, you seperated them and gave us crappy characters in their place.

I can still remember the characters in GW1- Rurik, Glint, Lich, Devona, Mhenlo, Cynn, Nika and none of them had the amount of screen time as GW2 characters did. My suggestion is to create LESS characters and more attachment with already known ones such as the Destiny’s Edge. I rather have 1 character I would be saddened if he/she died than 1000 new characters who randomly dies.

I could keep listing but I’ll stop to prevent an already large wall of text. I felt GW2 could have been better if ArenaNet put more effort into some of their original concepts.

What voice acting? You mean there are STILL missing lines of dialogue and mismatching subtitles 7 months after launch?

The story branches ARE rather interesting but only if you did 75% of them and you will see a lot of them tying in together, along with the story dungeons as well. The problem is some of them are far too short and the overall path feels that way too.

My answer for GW2, would be introduce more PvE rewards for PvP and you will get more people doing PvP.

Perhaps one of the reasons more people do WvW is you can kit your character out in exotic armour/weapons which you can use in PvE?

10 laurels is a lot of laurels. Even if the laurel “bug” was to be made a perma-feature, I doubt it will entice people to grind away at PvP. Personally after many matches during beta and initial launch, I find it to be even less satisfying than harvesting or crafting. If I want to PvP, I would prefer FPS or a hack and slash like War of the Roses: Kingmaker.

WvW is another matter altogether, it can be quite exciting. However there needs to be more rewards, objectives and variation imho.

I wasn’t really trying to be funny when I mentioned JP. It seems that JPs are quite popular (Not really my thing, but idc doesnt affect me in the slightest) and devs have dedicated imo the appropriate resources towards it, so much so it can be considered a feature. I bet a lot of JP fans still miss the Clock Tower and Wintersday JPs and would probably still run them.

However if you are going for a MMORPG and end up with JPs as part of the architecture, you might want to consider that organic changes have occurred.

In other hands we have the recently released Bio Shock: Infinit, and despite the “Win” objective that acording to Elbert would break all the artistic purpose, it introduces us a rare seen well constructed plot and a even rare dedication to the construction of dialogues, all involved in a scenario that could be present in an art gallery of NY.

I don’t think it is a well constructed plot as it is wildly irrational. But thats just me. As to whether the game will sell well worldwide or to people with different ideological tendencies is another matter altogether.

I was not aware that books were featured in art galleries of NY.

Even if you haven’t heard of Mr Daniel Dociu, just the water effects alone in this MMO is ridiculously good-looking.

What do you mean? Of course they wanted the reward. Remember that this was months ago when getting a piece of exotic gear was the bee’s knees. And even if they didn’t care about the gear, LOTS of people were appalled that they were prevented from getting the achievement because it was too hard. Can you imagine the audacity of a game developer to make an achievement something you need to earn through skill?

An exotic was quite a big deal but it wasn’t worth people spending hrs on it to beat it when they can farm the equivalent gold / tokens in COF P1 in much less time. The skin wasn’t unique and the stats are not desirable (who uses condi damage in MF farming?).

The bleeds do not tick any faster and the mobs will take over all less dmg from bleeds etc.. because they do not live as long though crits still high just as hard and that much faster it just dose not equal out for ppl.

Very random to talk about trash mobs but there is something to say that trash mobs are there to slow progress down and the speed up would let you just simply run past them and comply forget about them when downing a boss due to the speed at witch you where able to.

WvW IS part of pve Spvp is its own side system.

First off agreed definition – mobs not equal to mini-bosses or bosses therefore trash mobs. No decent player uses their TW for mobs in general. Quickness util maybe just to make it a few seconds faster to kill a mob.

You dont need quickness to run past mobs. Thats swiftness.

As for bleeds ticking, it increases the number of stacks quickly on a boss if it isnt already maxed out. If I am not wrong, it will also help u push out ur teammates stacks if they have less condi damage. Also I haven’t mentioned the direct damage that comes with the condi damage. It is not much but still better than nothing.

I have to say… is it really a problem that people aren’t farming the dungeon? Dungeons paths weren’t intended to be farmed for hours on end long past the point you’ve gotten your dungeon gear and lost any sense of joy in doing them. Let the people move onto other things. We just need a nerf to cof now.

Actually I don’t disagree with you. But I believe that wasn’t the intention of the devs or the people asking for more challenging content at all, otherwise it would be much harder and/or time-consuming regardless of whether you have mastered the new mechanics of new AC or not.

Its too bad for new players though. They would have a much smaller pool of experienced players to help them or have more difficulty forming parties to get their AC gear.

Khal Drogo.9631

Its not just an PvP thing but part of it. The thing is you where having ppl able to up there dps by so much in such a small bit of time that you would only need to wait for these ability to come off cd. Where you have other classes who cant use such ability or would not truly benefit from them such as condition dmg classes. It allowed player to make the most out of mobs down times when you dropped a shield making the fights a lot shorter and easier then intended too.

Err its only 10s of quickness with a 210 cd only if everyone is in the field and their HB or equivalent are not on CD.

I run a necro as well and this is just a blatant lie about condi builds not being able to benefit from TW. For one thing it will help you stack bleeds faster, maintain your bleeds longer as a consequence in the long run, use your scepter skill 3 faster for a bit of damage.

I didnt realize trash mobs were an issue in the first place or that mobs had downed time. In short bullkitten about trivializing content.

I get why the PVP community and some devs wants the nerf for balance in PVP. This must be the major reason of the nerf. No need to come up with lame excuses why quickness needed a nerf in PvE. If you want to use the logic that a skill will enable to win a fight easier and faster, it would apply to almost every skill in every classe’s toolkit.

So being able to down some one in less then 1/2 a sec and execute some one is not a “i win” button? The PvE spin is that the game was become 4 war and 1 mez the game was being pushed to all out dmg only being the “best” way to do things and in the minds of the players because the best way of doing something is the only way to do something making it imposable for other classes to join in with these events.

So …. its really about PVP.

Please try 4 warrior and 1 mesmer in fractals even at < lvl 30 and tell me the results whether that is the optimal setup. For that matter, SE, TA, Arah. There isnt only one dungeon and this nerf added about 30s tops to a COF speed run.

In PvE open world events, not just warriors or the mesmer himself are happy with TW, it is a shared boon to help down megabosses faster.

That would not fix the problem. You can still execute ppl at 100%+ speed giving no time to use any downed skills. Quickness was the one button win skill for both evens in pve and in wvw/spvp. They had to do something about the amount of speed it gave ppl or it would become the only boon that was worth using.

Wow TW allowed me solo Dredge Shaman, Bloomhunger + every boss not in COF. Thats the definition of a “I win” button. Even pre-nerf, pretty sure not the only boon worth using.

The reason they don’t reward skill is obvious, they would alienate and subsequently lose a large portion of their players. Someone already mentioned that the only reward they earned by skill was the Mad King Slippers from the clock tower. Do you remember the backlash on the forums from the players who found that JP too hard to complete? In a nutshell: “How dare you developers create rewards that require that I complete a challenge? why do you people bother with mega bosses?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khal Drogo.9631

Khal Drogo.9631

They are seriously a waste of time… you get one rare which you’re lucky to get 20 silver for and a bunch of other useless things that if sold will maybe total up to 25 silver…and you guys seriously spend hours waiting for these bosses to spawn…

Why do you do that? It’s so inefficient…

Doing ONE CoF run takes 6 minutes (8 if you’re on a bad pug team) and even conservatively gives you 80 silver per run…in six minutes you can make 3+ times more gold (and get tokens too) than you do waiting for hours for mega bosses…

You might say though… “but I don’t wait for hours, I just go when my guild tells me that the bosses are up”… ok, but even at that rate the best estimate to kill a mega boss would be 2 minutes per boss… add in the time to run there from waypoint, pick up your loot in the end, it probably takes 3 minutes minimum per boss, which at 25 silver per boss still only makes you 50 silver in those 6 minutes that it takes to run CoF… it probably takes a minimum of 3 silver to travel to each mega boss, so your total is a whopping 44 silver vs 80 in CoF… and on top of it all you can now only do the event once a day…while you can farm CoF till your hands fall off…

In fact… in 20 minutes of running CoF (3 runs conservatively) you can make more gold than if you did all of those mega bosses combined for the whole day…

Stop getting upset over these events, they are useless in the first place… no point getting your blood pressure up worrying about these nerfs to mega bosses… do what’s efficient… if you’ve never run CoF, it’s seriously the easiest thing ever to do… compete joke of a dungeon… you have no excuse to not try it… do 3 runs a day, get all your gold, then go enjoy the parts of the game that are actually fun instead of waiting in the swamp for hours…

1) I don’t like PUGing with people who consider 8 min runs (even speed runs) “bad”. Its even worse when some party mate RQ because they didnt kill the slave driver before pre-nerf TW has expired.
2) Way more boring.
3) I enjoy playing on all my professions so that I dont lose touch with the feel of playing them. Running warrior or even mesmer and pressing the same buttons doesnt appeal to me even for the monetary rewards. Unless I am in serious need for money though.

With a group that knows what they’re doing, you can complete all three paths faster than you could pre-revamp. You have people attempting the dungeon without even bothering to read up on strategies or watch videos.

I saw this one video the other day that someone made of the path 3 boss claiming that it was impossible to beat due to the falling rocks. They were still trying to fight the boss the old way. If they had done a simple search then they would see you need the npc to cast their shield to block the rocks.

This dungeon is still very easy. It’s just that you have to know the general idea on what to do beforehand which honestly isn’t asking much.

My takeaway is don’t fix whats not broken and don’t listen to a small vocal minority. In reverse, whats broken doesnt get fixed or takes ages to get fixed. To sum up my annoyance with AC and the 26/03 nerfs.

AC, after a few runs, is actually much faster than before for P1-P2. The only problem is P3, because Grast may (auto attack to victory) or may not (CC yourself) protect you.

The issue you are experiencing isn’t limited to AC I believe.

Not really, COF P1 was still the most popular dungeon by far before they made changes to AC although AC could come close at peak times. The rest of the dungeons were never that popular to begin with. But I would love it if people would like to justify AC changes unless the dev’s intention was to drive players away from AC.

On making people happy, I am guessing a much smaller subsection of the playerbase who are still running AC because they loved the changes so much.

How to tell people are bored or burnt out

I’m not currently eating, either — but I haven’t been “burnt out on food.”

Actually, now that I think about it, that just shows how ridiculous the OP’s reasoning really is. He’s basically saying that if forums and websites for recipes/cooking were steadily increasing, it’s an indicator that people in general are “bored or burnt out” on food. Do we really think that’s the case?

Analogy fail.

Best patch ever. Everything is fine. GW2 still has strong growth (no I dont have access to Anet’s stats I am guessing but the people guessing the opposite are ignorant idiots.)

I think we should leave GW2 to the elitists and see how far that takes them.

It’s like all the dungeons that present something of a challenge, people have always stuck with the easiest options.

Not true HOTW P1 is still easy but it was never popular to begin with unlike AC.

Oh, don’t twist words. I didn’t say “Timewarp is a crutch”. I said “you shouldn’t use Timewarp as a crutch”. You should be just as capable of handling a situation like 2-3 party members down without Timewarp as you are with it, because it’s always possible to get stuck in a situation where you won’t have it. And 50% faster is still 50% faster—that’s still a lot of extra speed for ressing people, or for rolling through channel skills, or for spiking damage.

Yeah if you are fighting some easy boss. I would like to see u try rezzing without Time Warp at Bloomhunger or Dredge Shaman when all your reflects are on CD at higher level fracts or even CoE if you dont have a group of experienced party members.

And no, I always save my TW when its needed, not to just pop it off the first chance I get. I suppose the people not using it as a “crutch” wouldn’t have the same mentality.

While it’s taken me a while to figure out what you’re actually babbling about, it appears you’re really upset that your pve elite was nerfed a little bit because of problems in pvp. I’m terribly sorry you feel that this great injustice came down upon your shoulders. I really am. However, your method of expressing that sentiment is extremely lacking.

Your argument has apparently been contriving a situation where if shatters were nerfed, that the community would be shedding the same river of tears you are currently. Perhaps that’s true, but the point is it doesn’t matter. It’s completely made up and irrelevant, as you’re trying trump up a fake nerf to use it as an example as to why this change was so bad. It just doesn’t make any sense whatsoever. Sure, I could say, “hay guis lol wut if anet like lol just deleted mezmar hahahah.” That would be just as pertinent as what you’re trying to say, which is not at all.

What DID happen was Haste, across the board, received a reduction. While some classes have been affected by this change more than others, it still affects everyone. In the end, you have 3 options: 1.) get over it, 2.) change your play style (ie reroll), or 3.) quit.

Sorry if it took you so long to understand, maybe I should use simpler words.. 11th try: How is TW OP in PvE outside of COF? Still 0 answers. Maybe all people can come up is just “same to you” instead of valid counter arguements.

How is adding a 5s cd to the shatter equivalent to deleting mesmer? Maybe to the guys roflstomping the competition in WvW and PvP.

Well if you want to play the get over it card, like I mentioned if shatter nerfs ever come, you guys can also feel free to suck it up.

I bought the game primarily for PvE, I didnt realize it was advertised as an esport a month or two after launch. I was just mesmerized by all the pretty artwork and animation, new lore (nvr even hard of GW1 before GW2).

But good news, devs have balanced skills and traits around PVP, at least they did something.
