Either the cannons should start contributing to the fight or the NPC should shut up about defending them. As it is right now it just drag out the fight for no reason at all. If they actually functioned like the galleon in the Taidha event chain then they would actually be worth defending.

Salvage kits and gathering tools are not stackable. The game doesn’t consider those to be stacks anyway. They are items with X number of uses.

That image also looks more like a first person view which would not have the same issues.

Another area besides WvW where you can see the problem with dense trees is Eda’s apple orchard in Queensdale. The problem is short trees.

Why is CoF still in the game?

They COULD buff the enemies on that path with retaliation so you can’t zerk it anymore.

You do realise mesmers pack a ton of boon removal?

Well my only other suggestions are the following.

1. Nerfing warrior damage in dungeons (not suggested)
2. Making all of the mobs take 75% less damage from physicals and 75% more damage from conditions (could work)
3. Make a cap on how many times your account can run a specific dungeon path in 24 hours before rewards stop coming. (will definitely work)

None of those things are good solutions. Most will hurt people who are doing it normally more than the people who are farming it.

Bots can’t farm CoF.

It feels like ANet doesn’t want people to do the temple events unless they get “enough” players to overwhelm the scaling. I just wish they’d tell us what “enough” is so we could stop wasting our time.

The other approach is to never trigger the scaling at all. Either way the scaling algorithm is still broken, the best way to tackle them is to play unnaturally.

AC is not the equal playing field compared to other dungeons. After the AC revamp other dungeons have better rewards/time ratio. You run “daily” CoF because it’s easy and fast, so unless you want the AC tokens you’ll stay away from it.

tl;dr Experienced players run CoF (fast/easy), CoE (same as CoF), or Arah. I do run SE for tokens.

Are you saying AC takes longer than Arah? O_o

Tell you what when we start the NPC hate list Trahearne pops to mind far faster than Alesia lol

That is probably because you’ve been playing GW2 much more recently than you’ve have had need to bring Alesia. By the time you meet Trahearne on a non-Sylvari character you should be pretty much trained to know that NPCs are basically useless and Trahearne has some annoying lines but when you have Alesia in the party there was a reason for that.

The problem with Alesia was her skill priorities. She had a tendency to try to res people in the wrong time. The middle of a battle where your party is taking enough damage for someone to be killed is not the greatest time for your only healer to stop everything she is doing and start casting a slow ressurection spell. If you weren’t playing from release it might not be as noticeable, there were a bunch of updates to henchmen and hero AI. In the Crystal Desert section of the game I believe she has(or had, there were also some updates to their skills too) Healing Touch on her bar as well which meant she would try to charge into the thick of things when trying to heal.

Nothing beats Trahearne, even Kormir didn’t beat trahearne.

That is debatable. If Trahearne dies you have no reason to care. If Kormir dies you have to restart the mission. Kormir is also an expert at pulling extra unwanted mobs while being just as useless.

I sometimes get it and sometimes don’t. A friend pointed out that one of the cause might have to do with continuing to hold the forward movement key after missing a jump. Releasing any movement as soon as I realized I missed a jump seems to help.

Alternatively … a mesmer who is good at jumping puzzles is your bestest friend.

If you haven’t gotten to the lv5 Personal Story step then it wouldn’t hurt to do it now. You get less benefit from it if you wait.

You can level pretty much anywhere as long as the mobs are not more than 3 or 4 levels above you. Although for someone new it would be best to stick with mobs less than or equal to your current level. There isn’t much penalty for fight mobs below your level. You’ll still get about the same exp and drops.

If you stick to areas close to your level and do the events, each event will get you around 7% of your level.

Balthazar temple requires a bit more people than the typical group event as well as awareness of how the event progress. What kills those NPCs is mostly likely a bunch of Risen Nobles with overlapping AoEs. You either out heal the damage or you run ahead and aggro them away from the NPCs. After that you’ll still need to deal with the risen priest of balthazar. 5 might be a bit tough for that.

Dwayna, Melandru and Gate of Arah is probably doable with 5. Lyssa is probably best done with 10-15 at least but we did do it with 3 once but I don’t recommend it! Not really sure about Grenth but it also requires awareness of what not to do in order to avoid killing the NPC and making the event fail.

The Temples off Soldier, Rabid and Magi gear. You can get armor with same exact stat from various dungeons.

Then there is the Trading Post …

…and let’s not talk about another level 26 run last week where people just kept dying on the bosses and i couldn’t figure why. Turns out 3 of the players had no AR whatsoever, and had tried sneak in hoping nobody’d notice… well kitten, 1 leecher might get under the radar but 3 of you?

That’s… something that i really don’t understand. I mean, why? They don’t get any better drops (since they’re capped at their personal level), and only making it harder on themselves. And their personal level just couldn’t be anywhere close to 26, or they would have at least some AR already. Just getting to 20 guarantees one ring with a chance for more. And a single amulet is also not that hard.

Maybe they are very good at sneaking individually and they managed to do only the odd levels in the 20s? :P

This seems to be a bug with all ‘objects’ in general. The unstable ice formations in the ice room of the reactor in Metrica does the same thing.

That is not really specific to the the Aetherblade Retreat. Phase Retreat does this all over the place. It used to(might still do it) have a very high chance of sending you into the ground.

Instead of quitting the whole dungeon you could have logged out instead, note log out not leave party.

These are actually all correct based on the description of the trait line. The thing to keep in mind is that they increase the recharge rate rather than decreasing the recharge time.

Unless the description itself has changed(it hasn’t based on the wiki page http://wiki.guildwars2.com/index.php?title=Tools&oldid=192856 ). It has either always been like this and the skills had the wrong tooltip(easy to confirm by checking at videos before the patch) or it’s a bug fix. People complain about lack of bugfixes but not all fixes are necessarily beneficial.

Other profession mechanics have the same issue.

This game is getting so bad yet Anet can distract players with snowman finishers in PvP and WvW…..

I think its getting really good. Most of the changes that have come along I would have loved to have a launch.

  • Better loot from champs
  • Better rewards at the end of dungeons
  • Level appropriate rewards in any zone (had a lvl 80 exotic drop from Blood Witch)
  • AOE Loot
  • Living story is a neat interaction with the games world once story is done
  • Preview in TP
  • WvW personal progression
  • New PvP maps

List goes on and on, but those are some of my favorites. Yes the game has some hiccups still (instance closing when party leader leaves), what game doesn’t? But if you consider how much has been added and improved just as the game is coming up on its 1st birthday, and how much we know is coming, it’s pretty amazing.

I have no problem with most of that list but WHAT better loot from champ? I’ve yet to see anything resembling decent from one. Not even a masterwork item.

So anyone here actually know French? From the google translation that looks like they just said Guild Halls. Not really the same as player housing. I could see how that sort of thing could easily be lost in a machine translation.

I just saw this thread and though,“I won’t ever do something like that.” Then, I logged onto Guild Wars, bought a heavy invaders helm and couldn’t believe I did it. Hope they change it a bit, maybe give you a warning like,“You are unable to use this armor class.” When you buy it, just a thought.

Uh I am not sure I would like that. They already have a ‘are you sure?’ sort of dialog. At least for dungeon stuff.

I buy daggers with my warrior to toss in the forge because that is my weaponsmith, don’t really want any more prompts. Besides if people already ignoring existing prompts what are they chances they will be paying attention to the new ones?

Search rest of the forums for all the people who ignored the ‘if you apply this upgrade the item will be soulbound’ warning.

It’s a bit odd that the tokens are account-bound, but the gear bought is soul-bound. Sure, it’s user error, but lots of potential user error instances are prevented/prohibited by the code, and it would be more consistent for the gear and tokens to have the same initial “bind” status.

Well the problem is that they DID have the same initial bind status. It’s just that they forgot about all these other stuff when they made tokens account bound. Other things on the list are all those dungeon specific runes that drops. Then there are the very stupid extended potions …

um the term imbagon comes from paragons being overpowered in gw1.

I suspect they will release the axe next. Then after a month or two bring them all back and sell for a limited time as a package deal. The “limited time offer” marketing technique is tried and true and generates bigger sales because people don’t put off buying it and it drives impulse buys.

That said, I cannot see them never returning. They will return periodically then leave. They may change name or look sometimes, but overall they will be the same item wrapped in a new bow. If I had to guess, they’ll bring them back from Christmas at the latest (for a limited time of course).

Hmm with a frosty theme … I only have the axe and pick on one character but if they start releasing different animations then I’ll probably start getting the other ones for other characters. It’ll only take around a decade to finish off every character …

I don’t think DR affects those but as people already mentioned in the dungeons section. The bags are not guaranteed drops. They can be replaced by some of the dungeon specific drops like the Ghostly Spineguard.

That would be critical chance not critical damage. Big difference.
The hero panel has some issues with displaying conditional buffs. The easiest way to tell if it is working or not is to get your base crit rate to 85%(not too difficult on a warrior) and then get 3 bars of adrenaline. If you don’t get a crit on every hit after that then it’s a bug.

The posts above are correct, the entire group of chanters is respawning after a wipe at any point. I’m going to change it so that only the 2 initial chanters will respawn on a wipe, and the larger group will spawn once the first 2 are killed. (As it used to work, except that the 2 chanters will reset after a wipe.)

Uh … while you are at it can you make the same change for Kholer’s adds?

A few questions from me too:

1). Leveling by crafting:
– should this be done at higher levels? If yes, around what level?
– how much exp would a crafting prof give? (say 1->300, since I`m a casual non rich player)
– which and in what order should one start with the crafting profs?

That would get you 6 levels.

2). The food (+10% experience) and the Oils are available from level 5.
– do they stack?
– what other exp boosts can one get? (banners / something else?)
– with the fastest exp gain/money spent as target, does it matter what kind of buff consumables (food/oil/potions) one uses? Are they all the same? Should one always get the cheapest ones (3 coppers/piece) or there is a more efficient way?

Food and oil/potion/sharpening stones stack and as long as it is the same +10% it doesn’t matter which item you get. I believe there are some food with a +15%.

3). Story quests; I have leveled up long ago a few toons, and some of the story quests were not easy nor short.
– should one do them every 10 levels? Every 20 -30 levels?
– should one do them when they come (normal sequential way) ?

Hard to say. I usually combine it with map completion. The order goes like this.
1) Complete starter map
2) Do personal story until it goes to another map
3) Complete that map
4) Do personal story until it goes to another map
… all the way until the end

4). Vistas and map completion at lower and higher level.
– long ago (if I am not mistaking) map completion some time awarded the rare lv 80 transmutation stones (or was it the personal story quest?..); are the rewards for a lv 20 toon that completes a map worth the time? what about for a level 60?

Map completion sometimes does give the transmutation crystal instead of the stone. It can also be a black lion key. Can’t remember if I ever got a crystal from a low level zone. The stack of crafting material can be quite useful if you are starting out and you need materials for crafting.

Assuming that we know that creatures drop illogical stuff anyway…wolves dropping bows for example, it’s easy to explain.

I always assume the stuff that’s dropped was on the last person the monster ate.

Based on that theory we should ignore MF and start dropping mobs on other players instead for better drops …

Sorry, I misread. However, now I fail to see your point. OP says they are bad for small guilds. You say they are fine for a big guild but I think most people already know that. Are you suggesting what the devs have been suggesting? Get more people?

the whole overwriting mechanic is horrible though. if i have a combo that i like, for example poison field then blast finisher for AoE weakness on the mob, but someone else laid down a fire field what do I do? I have to wait for the fire field, and the water field to pass….when do I even get to do my combo???

it’s a ridiculous mechanic, basically denying people the people with lesser combo fields the chance to do anything to help the team for fear of overwriting the “better” fields.

… you blast the poison field for weakness. Finishers proc from the oldest field.

I don’t see why they couldn’t add an off topic forum. WoW, lotro, dcuo, rift and what seems to be every single other mmo’s official forum that I checked has a way to discuss things that are not game related.
These are the official forums of these games too.

There are plenty general gaming forums for discussing all sorts of games, why does anyone need to discuss in the forums specifically for GW2?

Sorrow’s Embrace and Honor of the Waves also has those stats. Chest in SE has a chance of dropping destroyer cores(and lodestones?) and the ones in HotW drops can drop glacial ones.

With three people it doesn’t really matter much since regular mobs do not scale to the number of people around. The problem won’t be killing fast enough but killing too fast so that the other people won’t even be able to get credit for the kills.

Transmutation Crystals Bugged?

Just checking, but have you unequipped both items into your inventory before attempting the transmute?

That isn’t actually required.

I recall there was a bug with transmutations where you had to put the already transmuted item on the left side and the other item on the right. You could try that if that isn’t what you were doing already.

The reason why AOE loot takes the lowest priority on the interact function is to not interfere with other mechanics. You will notice things like banners and turrets already have priority over loot when pressing F so that when you are fighting you do not have trouble picking those up instead of looting.

What I find most noticeable is that looting is higher priority than ressing.

People like playing skyrim, because it became open source.

Open source keeps people playing it by playing other peoples mods than by time they get burnt out from the mods an expansion comes out.

Skyrim is not open-source. It has a well-understood modding structure and, to some extent, an API, plus a fairly flexible game structure. Open-source means the source code of the game itself is released, not just a way to interact with said source code. The people that deal with that source code still need to know exactly what they’re doing, or Bad Things Happen™.

GW2, by its very nature, cannot become open-source effectively, as most MMOs cannot. Consider the repercussions: one tiny logical mistake or poorly-designed interaction can bring down a server when there are hundreds of people interacting with it. How on earth are these miraculously-appearing 300,000 people claimed by another poster supposed to coordinate on making changes to a live game in such a way as to avoid these mistakes, which largely stem from a lack of coordination?

IF they ever add things like that it would be confined to instances for the reasons you mentioned. Other problems would be how to avoid people creating loot pinatas and gold fountains and completely destroying anything resembling an economy. There are plenty of other was where things of this kind would destroy the game even without causing crashes. One easy way to solve all of them is to have those instance give no loot but I am sure you know how much complaints that would generate.

I think one of the things I miss most about GW1 is the atmospheric feel of slight despair and immensity that the world conveyed. The world just felt so massive but a lot of it felt really sparse, post searing ascalon for example always felt really somber and creepy. The searing crystal in Pockmark Flats always really intrigued me, it’s so beautiful and massive and the wind riders always kind of terrified me with how fast they float around in packs.

My favorite is still Factions for atmosphere. Boy, does Factions have atmosphere!

I doubt the same will ever happen in the case of any NCSoft related properties. There might also be some code shared between NCSoft published products which would create additional roadblocks.

I think a better version of his question would been “commercial AAA MMO”, as opposed to just “commercial MMO”, since indie developments are also considered commercial MMOs and thus more likely to end up open source.

Anyway … while something like Ryzom ring would be great, it wouldn’t require anything to be open source.

Also keep in mind that open sourcing it would pretty much put it on a collision course with GW2’s business model. Selling cosmetics. Once you have access to the source you can start modding things so you can look however you want. Sure you’ll still look like some random fashion victim to other people but for many people looking the way they want on their own screen will probably be enough.
