I’ve also seen less people farming there overall. I think others are experiencing the same thing and have since stopped farming that area. Maybe the ones showing up on the AH are only from Jormag event mobs? Who knows.

During? I thought those were nerfed ages ago because people were purposely prolonging the event so they can farm those.

Unless you are over 30(your real level not the downscaled level) levels above the enemy there any need to care about being around the same level. Even if you ARE 30 levels above the concern is mostly about loot rather than exp.

If you play a lot over the next week its possible to get the shattered wings for free. Just complete 8 of the dragon bash achievements should take about 8 hours of play time if you focus on them and follow a guide such as the dulfy guide.

I believe the OP is referring to the other types of wings. I don’t like either but the holographic wings are nicer than the shattered wings IMO. On the other hand each dungeon run yields approximately 1g for me without including the value of any loot that drops. Each run is approximately 30 minutes(this is with all or mostly guild members and killing most things) so 8 hours would actually get you 16g which is more than enough to buy one of the holographic wings. That is of course assuming you have a lv80 with at least lv80 masterwork gear.

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

Orr was supposed to be a land free of hearts but with events firing all over the place so you’d never run out of stuff to do.

In reality, there’s only a few events if any going on at any time, and thus nobody cares about 80% of the map.

The solution is to simply load up the whole map with stuff to do, so that you don’t feel left out if you dare wander off and shelter/pertinent starts and you feel you just wanted your time.

That’s another problem I have with this “endgame” in GW2. The hardest zones are not only void of players but also void of any activities. There’s nothing going on. I could stroll around the map for 30 minutes without finding a single event anywhere. That’s basically Anet telling me to get out.

There are events in Orr … but nobody really bothers doing the. What is the point of doing them? The event reward is the same as everywhere else. Loot is the same. Event NPCs that turn into vendors offer nothing worth getting once you are all set up in exotics. The convenience of opening out a waypoint is completely negated by the fact that the events reset after a couple of minutes anyway making any effort to open a waypoint practically worthless.

I’d be surprised if Torment was actually strong. For one it’s a stacking condition, they have low initial damage since they’re supposed to ramp up.

2) Currently thieves DoT is limited to bleeding and poison. This will be a condi spec thing primarily of which thief doesn’t roll. P/D WvW trolling? Who is to say that is not augmented this patch. Maybe Torment on Shadow strike to make more varied change.

3) Dunno if dodging is counted. Possibly not since confusion already treats dodging as a skill.

It’s probably more so just to give the condi specs on these profs a bit of an extra edge to bring them up to par. That isn’t to say other professions don’t have weak condi specs but considering I don’t recall Condi Mes and condi thief being a “thing” for eons…. i doubt its an issue.

While getting map completion progress done is a good source of XP, might it be advisable to hold off actually completing the map (save a Vista or two, perhaps) until you’re higher (near cap) level? That way, the items you get in the chest might be useful for more than a level or two. I know getting completion of a map also awards XP, but some items at 79 might be more useful than XP you can get so many other ways.

The completion rewards are based on the level of the map specifically to prevent people from doing that.

Edit: Just checked my map, there are in fact lv10 hearts for every race but some or them are not located near where you might be expected. For example in the Norn starter area the lv11 heart is much closer to the lv8 heart than the lv10 heart.

Does building toughness punish you?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

What affects mobs aggro tables (for the most part) in guildwars, in order of importantance.

1.closest target to them
2.who is dealing damage
3.top damage dealers
4.who is using a shield / has more toughness and overall armor

While there are no tanks, people sometimes toss around the word anchor. Where as a class such as a guardian with high toughness is more likely (not all the time) going to be attacked, he can use this knowledge to help position the mobs so the other damage dealers can hit more targets in the aoe and use the higher damage, rooted moves like hundred blades more freely.

for a necromancer, defensive use of death shroud also helps survivability.

While having high toughness does let you survive easier, dodges/invulnerabilities are the most important, even for classes like guard who have a lot of sustain.

Are you sure about the aggro priority? I was in a Group event in Orr and the Champ kept targeting me, no matter what I did. I kept getting killed and everytime someone rezzed me the darn thing came right back at me. No amount of running or dodging helped. I even stopped all outgoing damage. The thing was stuck to me like a heat seeker.

There are enemies that will focus on people further away so no that priority isn’t the same for everything. The Nightmare Vines in Twilight Arbor seems to favor attacking ranged. Subject Alpha in path 1 of CoE seems to put a high emphasis on who is dealing the most damage, with a particular party composition it would stay glued to the glass cannon berserker. Giganticus Lupicus seems to have different priorities as well. Did the Mursaat path the other day, it seem intent on murdering the thief in the party at every opportunity(whenever she was not dead). Given how much damage the thief was taking she definitely did not have more armor or HP than me or the mesmer in the party. As for distance, since we ressing our distance was more or less the same.

As for whether toughness helps, it can certainly help in the right situations. For the GL fight I mentioned above I forgot to swap my berserker+ruby orb set for my cleric+soldier rune set. The difference was very clear, with the cleric in can stand in the bubble without too much worry, with the berserker I will most likely get downed. The results were the same back when the cleric pieces were cleric+ruby orb.

Kill the Hydra Queen - Achievement bugged

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

I think it’s a bug that is noted on the wiki page. Lionscout Jenny must be alive when taking down Taidha Covington, otherwise the achievement won’t register.

Whatever the bug might be I am pretty sure it is not that. I got the achievement a while ago fighting Taidha with a friend. I got the achievement and he didn’t. Jenny couldn’t have been dead AND alive at the same time.

There might be some silly thing where you need a higher participation level to get the achievement than to get the rewards. Remember the bug with not getting enough credit for kills to get loot?

exchange that berserker armor for soldier’s, take out those 30 points in strength trait and put it in defense, take out those 30 points in arms trait and put it in tactics
vuala! now you can survive 4 times as much punishment. you’ll take 50% longer to kill stuff, but that’s the trade-off.

As for warrior being squishy, just as with every other class it depends on your build. There is not much point in discussion without knowing your build. Environment is also important. Open world, dungeon, and WvW have different sorts of advantages and disadvantages to exploit/defend against.

The description they had for the Tequatl fight before launch actually sounded a bit like the Claw of Jormag fight. The turrets are supposed to be involved in the fight. If they get destroyed you it kicks off an escort event to bring supplies to get the turrets. There may have been other bits I forgot about. Unfortunately none of this seems to have made it to the final version.

The Tequatl fight seems to half implemented. The other things that point to this is the fact that the other events that are part of the meta event doesn’t seem to have anything to do with the Tequat fight except maybe a bit of lore.

It is mainly the Thralls. They can frenzy which lets them run faster, attack faster, hit harder. On top of all that they will all poison you. In addition do dealing damage to you over time Poison will also reduce the effectiveness of your heals.

The best approach (assuming you don’t have a character that can just stand there and exchange blows) is to use some sort of snare. Ranger should have the trap that cripples and bleeds along with one that chills. Use one and when the cripple or chill is about to wear off use the other. You should be able to kill them before they get to you or at the very least their Frenzy should have worn off by the time they get to you.

There is also a 3rd option besides buying gems with $$ or with gold. Delete all characters on the account. Transfers are free when there are no characters. Then there is the fourth option, buy some gems with $$ and buy the rest with gold.

From my understanding, if you come from other MMOs you might know what this is intended to mean. But if you don’t, one would not intuitively just assume it means you can only use/equip one of them.

If you came from GW1 it would mean … this drops from a specific boss which is obviously not true here either.

If you can hold off, bank the laurels as they are always adding content to those vendors.

Completing the daily also gives some coin and exp and sometimes and item in addition to the laurel.

Any plans to bring players back to Orr?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

But one solution would be to revert the changes that made orr so empty. And from there you can do the more exciting and rewarding stuff

It’s certainly one of the options we discussed, however it brings us right back to the initial problem we set out to solve, a large part of the player base was asking for more exciting and difficult open world content in our top end areas. The original version of Orr events were painfully easy, they didn’t scale well, mobs evaporated into thin-air and you had to race to even get a hit in before they died to get credit for kills.

The ideal balance point we’d like to have is with the scaling and more exciting encounters we have now, so it’s actually fun and at least remotely challenging to play there, but also rewarding as well. The reward systems we want to roll out to support those areas are part of a larger reward revamp and aren’t done yet, but are on their way and tie more strongly into the comprehensive system we’re trying to develop, thus the swap.

In regards to regular mobs hitting for insane damage, we did find a bug about a month ago causing many of them to scale way out of proportion, it has since been fixed and normal bosses in Orr should be doing damage on par with other bosses in the game. If you find any that are still nutso, please give us a shout, the intent is they should be fun/challenging, not one-hit-wonders.

Hope that helps give more insight into what we’re trying to do here, these changes are directly tied to feedback we’ve received. You don’t have to agree with them, but it’s important we explain why we’re doing them so folks understand the end goal, which I don’t believe we’ve reached yet until the rewards are there as well.

And now off to do that work thing, thanks for the feedback folks, as always keep it coming we really appreciate it!

TL;DR version being “We’ve put the cart before the horse.”?

Where are all these people clamoring for more challenging content? Most Orr events are untouched. It is as desolate as expected for a place like Orr so at least it helps with immersion.

Then we have the karka queen. The timer on gw2stuff.com provides a very convenient way to track how often people are doing that one. For the majority of all the servers(both NA and EU combined) the last time that event was done is in the double digits. Some are even in the triple digits. One is near or over 200 hours. That is over a week that the event hasn’t been done. The usual excuse of ‘no reward’ doesn’t even apply to that event since it DOES provide 2 rares. Personally I don’t think the reward for that event is worth the effort either but I am not one of those clamoring for these so call “challenging events” either.

The bug has certainly NOT been fixed, at least not for Lyssa. The gorilla is still easily a one-shot. Why does the champion gorilla have more HP AND hit harder than the legendary priestess which is supposed to be the primary target? Lyssa can be fun with a small amount of people but once it scales up it is just random one shots and gorillas jumping on you from behind.

There are also no meaningful tactics you can apply there. In THEORY it would be a smart move to go and destroy the trebs so people don’t have get pelted with all those AoEs and get forced into the tiny area but they respawn so fast it becomes a pointless waste of time.

As for reverting changes to the events to make them farmable. That would be a mistake. Yes it would “put more people in Orr” but what good would that do when those people are just sitting in a few specific spots in the fairly large maps and not doing much else?

To make matters even worse, there’s a skill point that you have to channel at a Dwayna statue near its path, and once you start, it warps right to you even if it’s away from the statue when you start.

The only way it’s doable is if the Knight does its flame shield skill first, since it doesn’t attack during that. Otherwise, you’re downed before you can react.

Whoever keeps changing these veterans to champions should stop doing it. This is just like that Champion Risen Noble sitting around the skill point in Gallow’s Hang (Cursed Shore), no one is going to try killing them because it isn’t worth it.
