I have mixed feelings about this encounter. I personally find the boss to be very easy as the platforms are so slow to disappear. However, yesterday I had same 3 members of my squad wipe before the boss even hit 40% twice. We even tried resing them and they died like 20 secs after being brought back. Then the ele would die from reflect damage and the chip damage from being targeted repeatedly by the lazer. I died to some random knock back on the last 5%. I’m still kicking myself for not having a stun breaker.
I want a breakbar to make the encounter a bit more engaging. At the same time I’m afraid of having the encounter turn into bloom 3.0 and having even more terrible pugs.
True. I mean: the rework on Cliffside shows that they can make tight Bar timers. The Archdiviner can only be effectively broken by a Poison thief or an expierienced warrior (rev needs future sight to time it right) yet it rewards the group if they coordinate the damage in this extra burn phase.
Thauma is just a pile of HP right now, everyone sits in his corner of the platform, wails away with attacks that are reflected half of the time and prays not to get nuked into oblivion by the aoe barrage.
It feels so dull and could be so much more.
O_o?
At what scale do people sit around corners for that? We usually have whoever has aggro run around while everyone else melee. Times where the whole place turns into a doughnut and you are forced to use range does happen more often than I would like though.
Your 3rd specialization has to be set to Berserker for any of the Berserker skills to be available.
Same problem here. Have the mastery achievement, got the item but no achievement completion.
That screenshot looks like you got everything except for a color change. Except for obsessive compulsive people I don’t see what the big deal is.
Ah, pirahna pond, I agree this HP is no fun and should be looked at, but I would second with the commune point at the end of Beetle Feast. There’s a King, A Queen and several baby appetizers, granted the King and Queen are both vets, but traffic to that area is next to nill lately, and soloing all them is tough.
If you make it there still transformed as a beetle, you can use the various skills to commune without drawing aggro.
Just need the 2 skill.
Alternatively you can kill the two vets separately. Aggroing one will not automatically aggro the other.
Map completing in VB and Auric basin seems to be going just fine, I see lots of trains there all the time. I think Tangled Depths definetely has some issues that are not just related to HP’s being champs (which can be ok, depending on the situation) but many players are unable to navigate the map, making it difficult to get people to group up. On top of that some of the HP’s in TD are already the most dangerous in the game by themselves.
I got map completion there on my main ages ago but I have recently decided to fully map HoT on all my chars. TD is definetely being the biggest problem, even DS map completion is easier despite requiring the meta. Simply because people will come for the meta, TD hp trains are more scarce. I think 2-3 players per HP should be a good thing to aim at. The more remote ones should just be veterans in my opinion, I don’t know what the metrics tells ArenaNet but I’m sure that my own observation might not be that far from the truth. (P.S. I personally do love the map design).
You can do all HP’s in HoT with 2-3 players already. I’ve seen it done with the one mentioned by the OP but with the AoE field, it relies on the players’ skill level with that low of a number. Although, I do wonder how a viper reaper would fair against it if they could keep their minions up.
I’ve done with 3 that went pretty easily and I’ve done it with 3 and a zerg that went pretty horribly. An important thing with this is to not backpedal too much or at all is that you can easily cause the boss to reset and also because it will aggro extra mobs. The extra mobs is also a problem when people decide to “help” and doesn’t bother to pay attention to what they are dragging n.
You do remember to open the chest afterward, right? It doesn’t auto-open.
I got the point for it long before it got the mastery necessary to open the chest.
The only way to check if you have gotten that point is to add up all points you have and see if you have one more than that.
https://gw2efficiency.com/account/achievements can help or you can just go through your achievement panel
Stat swapping is nice but not practical as a frequent thing. For a set of armor it is 6 x exotic insignians + 6 x superior runes each time.
Decorator and Edit Assembly Queue should be the only ones you need.
You do realise that you can choose the stats from a pool. With crafting your going all in on one stat. Like you can choose from all stats with powet major etc.. That’s also included in the costs..
Compare the prices of stats that cost most to craft then… It’s still the same… (and that’s even when ignoring that you can craft the cheapest version and stat-change in forge nowadays).
It’s meant to be more expensive. Your paying for not having to carft, timegate, pool of stats, not using T6. It’s just more options and like you say, you can just craft if you really want to
Depending on the stat you may still have to craft.
For example the most expensive armor piece to craft is a Pahua’s Doublet which cost 111g.
To get that from the fractal vendor it is 70g + 90gworth of matrices + another 31g to craft the exotic trailblazer insignia which requires a lv400 crafter. So it is still time gated due to the pages, requires crafting and t6 due to the insignia.
Pretty sure the intent with gliders and outfits is that you pull out your credit card.
I found the Ender’s Game reference to be quite enjoyable. The mission…
Remember from the dialog, its flavor to the story of Moto, who Taimi asked for help.
Doing it hours after release so not knowing that you could turn off the flames is a bit of a disadvantage.
I can completely understand…if I had done it first time through with one of my Scholar classes, I may have had the same difficulties while figuring it out.
True, and that was on my power build herald! I did not want to even think about how some of my other professions would do in the danger room. True, I could have waited a bit more so I was not going in blindfolded but I was like a kid who had just been handed a new prezzy to unwrap.
It was very easy on a reaper. I expect a tempest to steam roll it as well. I guess chronomancer would be annoying if you have to relying on illusions but that is nothing new.
JP’s always give “bad” loot. If a JP dropped “Fat loot” then it would become a must do everyday. No one wants that. Most people enjoy being able to do what they want and have the same change as everyone else at getting something good.
Except that you wouldn’t actually have to “do” the JP every day. You just park a character there. Then, every day, just log in, open the chest and get your Phat Loot. Better yet, park however many toons you want there. Phat Loot x times every day for practically no effort. That’s probably why the loot isn’t that good. It’d be way to easy.
That does work every 8 weeks.
Meh … that infusion only matters for people who are really that desperate for an extra +5 to a stat
I think most people that say the SW puzzle is a breeze compared to Chalice of tears, have forgotten what SW was like before gliding. Specifically gathering golden coins before gliding. When first introduced, SW was just as difficult as Chalice of Tears, and when the next nightmare JP is introduced, we’ll all say Chalice of tears is the fun one.
The SW one was never difficult. I did spend quite a while on it for the first run but that was me being stupid with the skritt tunnels. The SW puzzle also gives a visible buff and it works across disconnects.
The coins are inside the JP but they are a completely separate thing just like the tokens are separate from the Chalice.
I thought the ability to buy the wood was a once daily reward for repeating the heart?
It is but it doesn’t always reset.
bugged since release, sometimes it’s there and sometimes it is not
I hope so, my warrior has beena lawnmower in the new zone, to the point its boring. I can spin attack and hundred blades through swarms of destroyers, while back in GW1 my warrior needed 7 heroes to get through small groups. ‘Evolved’ destroyers my posterior organ.
That is because everything at that point in GW1 was balanced for having 8 characters around. Open world trash mobs are definitely not balanced to required groups to do.
What they need to do is add in a set of elite specs that is available to everyone, including F2P players then balance the various elite specs against each other.
Magic Find simplified:
{buys one lottery ticket, doesn’t hit jackpot}
{buys 8 lottery tickets, still doesn’t hit jackpot}:3
That is not what the guy who won the lottery around seven(it’s been a while) times said. :P
I don’t see why one must be equal to the other. One is for getting a particular reward. The other is an indicator for doing all available achievements.
Meh … haven’t bothered doing any of the world bosses in months. Shatterer overall was not an improvement.
They’ve done same look for every weight for heads and shoulders and gloves for a very long time. The dragon horns helm from the first Dragon Bash was like that, the special aquabreathers from Southsun as of the first karka event, the twisted watchwork shoulders, Mask of the Night, and then gem store skins like Toxic etc. Heck, the Radiant and Hellfire achievement skins are one-size-fits-all as well.
The benefit is that everyone gets the same reward with the same aesthetic merits and can mix and match it with any weight of armor.
The chest and legging of the Radiant and Hellfire sets are different for each weight.
At best they would be tickling the enemies with feathers anyway.
You also need to do all the hidden achievements as well if it is like the previous episode. I guess that has a useful purpose. Until it lights up anyone looking to do all the achievements would know if there any hidden ones left.
I do not think you can use instant portals anymore due to the need of getting the 3 or 4 checkpoints underway, they are now mandatory. So any portals you see do NOT port ppl up to the top instantly, as you will not get the chest , the completion or the mastery, at least this is what I heard. they arre usedtoport fllen ppl from the last checkpoints at best…
And as a mesmer I use portals anyways so I do have an added securityfeature while jumping, likewise I’d use the Wurm as necro to get back to a place if I’d thinkI’d falldown…. Actually I have 2 mesmers which arre mostly if not solely used to scale JP’s asI find it was more relaxed compared to rerunning long JP’s. I’ve seen ppl use portals and mimic almost since headstart, which is IMHO a perfect use of the mesmers abilities. else there’s also the teleport gun…. which can be used as well….
Too bad it has also made it somewhat buggy …
Well they aren’t really that random since the mobs of a particular type only spawn in certain areas. Some areas also have higher density than others which increase the chance of having something spawn there like the northern border of Fields of Ruin for the devourer.
Really! That’s great to know, because I feel that’s the most difficult and time-consuming Heart to complete.
Mostly because of the screwed up jade spawns. You can also pick up pieces of a damaged ship thing and bring it to the ghost for heart progress.
The tunnel for “Walking on Fire” is inside the lava pit near the heart quest for catching lava rocks / cooling sensors / collecting dwarven artifacts. You have to glide through using a series of small updrafts.
Right next to the machine parts for one of the story steps. Two parts on each side of the tunnel entrance and 1 part in front of the entrance.
Even if it’s the basic iron weapon skins re colorized to gold, it would still be cool.
That would look like the Bronze weapon skins …
Are you sure it is not the effect from standing close to the tower?
Stand to any one side of the room before they spawn. Avoid dodging into stuff. Their aggro radius doesn’t cover the whole room.
I feel like it is more about aggro management. Mainly don’t aggro the whole room and try to pile all the mobs on top of the same area to avoid covering too much of the room with fire. Once does get covered by too much then you use the orb.
I just did my third run where I more or less aggro the whole room a few times and that was tougher to deal with than the previous two.
Just did this on another character. Did you get the one right on the edge of the lava? I know I missed that one the first time around.
Hmm Taimi’s Game was pretty easy … on a reaper anyway. You know there is a thing to get rid of all the fire on the ground right?
I have no disability except not having played platformers or any twitch-based games before GW2, and Taimi’s Game was hard for me. I was sooo happy that they put checkpoints in the instance so that I didn’t have to start over from the beginning every time I died. Yes I knew about the strategies and tactics, I’m just bad at twitch-games. If Anet had added these checkpoints to the boss fights of the Personal Story and Living Story, I might have actually completed one of the storylines by now instead of giving up!
Anyway, I can’t imagine how someone with a hand disability plays – kudos to the OP!
Are you sure you are thinking of the Taimi’s Game instance? That is on one big enclosed area so there is no platforming involved at all.
You can move the ranks around by dragging them up and down the list.
Special note about Mystic Clovers- These are quite expensive with the rise in price of the Mystic Coin. Some reward tracks give you 7 Mystic Clovers for completion (non-repeatable reward tracks). These tracks are Silverwastes, Verdant Brink, Auric Basin, and Tangled Depths. If you play both PvP and WvW, that’s 56 Mystic Clovers. Since the mystic forge recipe for mystic clovers also rewards T6 materials, it is recommended to obtain your 77 clovers before buying T6.
You also end up with getting two clovers from getting the gift of battle and you have to get the gift of battle anyway so the number to aim for is actually 75.
I’ve been using the 64bit version almost since it was available. Haven’t had that problem. On the other hand what you have described has happened before while using the 32bit client (others have had the same problem before). Never figured out the exact cause but the mostly likely cause is some other app stealing focus. Tracking it down would be tricky but there is a program(that I don’t remember the name of) which tracks window focus events.
Edit: wasn’t too difficult to find the focus tracker http://www.adminscope.com/downloads/window-focus-logger-gui/

Found it slightly odd that the vouchers are are worth different amount depending on the type of weapon.
If it spawns elsewhere you’ll see a boss icon appear on the mini-map. This is map wide so if it’s anywhere in your map you’ll see it. Then you should use the nearest waypoint to get there ASAP (as I said they can die quickly).
If it spawns while you are on the map it also has the big announcement text. The wyvern tends to not die all that quickly due to the flying making it invulnerable.
What was the point of resetting hearts ?
A repeatable gold/karma source. Plus, it allows said karma vendors to have a once-a-day item to sell to players (the 3 petrified woods).
There are a bunch of other vendors in game (Marjory, Marjory’s assistant, wintersday gift and various fractal merchants) that reset daily without resetting anything else.
PS: while we’re talking about undocumented changes: is the fractal 3-like piranha effect new when you make a target bleed (not sure if that’s the reason) with the legendary spear? I don’t use it that often, and it’s the first time I notice.
I hope you are not referring to the necro spear skill …
The simple solution is to go to character select and then log back in.
All it takes is a patch or two and everything that could be said right now would all turn into lies.
They look okay. Might get the warhorn at some point. The greatsword also doubles as a can opener in case your character ever runs into any giant cans that need opening…
Honest question here,
Why would you choose to play an RPG if you dont care about stories?
It seems like choosing to go to a seafood restaurant when you dont like fish.
It seems like nobody remembers that some people have more than one character.
“This won’t end well.”
Mats being level specific help new players who are leveling up be able to gather and sell mats for gold. It will also drive up the cost for higher tier mats as now the node spawns have to be split between all tiers and not just the level appropriate onces.
I do not agree with this suggestion.
… and then they have to buy it all back when they try to level crafting
Cost isn’t the only consideration though. I crafted the Legend even though I knew for a fact it was considerably cheaper to buy it. I’d previously bought The Lover and I found the process of crafting the precursor much more enjoyable, and actually quicker.
Then there is the other consideration. Zap’s collection involves at least one frequently broken event.
Cost is a huge consideration when you talk about speed. Crafting cost 2.5x as much as buying The Energizer. That means you can gather half as much stuff and sell all of it then buy it. Gathering half the stuff should be much faster than gathering all the stuff and then there is the time saved not having to get the account bound items.
Making 4g and spending it on materials that allowed me to check off one little part of the next stage of the collection felt much more like I was getting somewhere than making 4g and adding it to the slowly growing pile in my bank which felt like it was never going to match the buy orders on the TP. Plus I really enjoyed the collection/scavenger hunt aspects.
The collections are a mixed bag. Some might enjoy it. Some hate it. I am mostly neutral. Unfortunately once you have gone through collection 2 there is no going back since that already took a big chunk of gold/materials.
Maybe they finally fixed it.
