Crafting and Loot Drop systems seem to clash

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

So, just the opposite of what the OP states; that crafting is being removed from the game. I’m still confused about the Ancestral armor part. OP states that Ancestral armor can’t be crafted, and is a new addition to the game. I thought it might be Cultural armor, but that’s been here since release. And Ascended armor is all about crafting and/or drops, but crafting for a guaranteed piece.

With the addition of Ancestral armor and weapons the direction for equipment progression has become more confusing. Ancestral armor and weapons is not obtainable by random drop or crafting, as I know it, so it seems that the development of Guild Wars 2 seems to be developing towards removing crafting from a game.

Maybe the OP got so confused by the choices that they started writing about a different game in the middle of a post? :P

The harpoon gun scenario seems a lot more likely …

Same issue with staff and trident and occasionally scepter due to the icons.

Edit: After checking my wardrobe I remember I ran into something similarish when I got Flamebelcher. It looks like a rifle and the name is not something you would expect on a harpoon gun.

Friend of the Owls - Nevermore issue

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Owl's_Abattoir

Check out the events section. If you click on each one, it says Upon success / Upon failure this event happens.

I forget if it was friend of the owls or the other achievement for Nevermore in this area, but there was one event that never started because all the others succeeded and something had to fail to get what I was hunting for.

Anyway, of the 2 achievements gained in that area, 1 took me over 4 hours to get, but the one I had to wait the longest for was the one that never happened because all the others succeeded. I ended up luring Jormags Minion close to the WP (Into the owl circle) and got the achievement. Jormags Minion always happened, but wasn’t the event stated for that particular Nevermore Achievement.

If you do it this way, ask whoever is around to not kill the minion quickly, let them get close to the WP, they’ll die really quickly after that, but if they get close enough to endanger the owls, you should get credit for the achievement.

They changed that a bit. You can just do the beast of jormag event twice to get both items for the collection. You don’t need to care about the one that needs to fail.

I’d say Bloodstone Fen is probably your best option. Events are the best source of experience, and Bloodstone Fen has basically non-stop events of some sort (rifts and the Bloodstone Champ are on a constant cycle, as are the White Mantle events on the ground, Hablion is pretty frequent, and then there’s the Jades and Ghost champ events which are less frequent but provide a chain of 4-5 events in a row). Plus, you can buy permanent experience boost upgrades from the Unbound Magic vendor that work while you’re in the zone.

The map bonus in BF also gives additional exp(it also has other stuff like unbound magic). You get the map bonus item roughly once every 2 events.

Khisanth.2948

I see, your settings are set to ‘snap at ground target’
That means that the mouse is constantly providing the marker, and when using the skill, it’s instantly cast to that location. Go to your settings and turn off Snap Ground Target.
This is a setting for people who are accustomed to the size/positioning of the targetring and can do without

That is not what snap ground target does. It just centers ground target skills on your target if it is within range.

The setting you are talking about is “Ground Target:” set to Instant.

Vapor blade is narrow and it can have problems when bumping into debris on the ground.

You could also add in sigil of blight/fire/torment but it is probably not worth it unless you already happen to have a weapon that have these upgrades in them.

Once you figure out how it works it is also very easy so I don’t see anything ridiculous about it. Just a bit of waypointing cost maybe.

Daily quests concern

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Khisanth.2948

At the end of the day, MMO pay-styles vary greatly depending on player choices. The continuum ranges from “drop-in for a short time when you feel like it” to “play for many hours every day.” For reasons related to their profit models, developers provide things to keep the players at the “many hours” end of the continuum busy.

Problems crop up when players at the “drop-in” end of the continuum want the rewards put in for the players at the “many hours” end. Players who might otherwise recognize that “obsessive content play X” is not aimed at me cannot get past the desire for virtual prize Y. Unfortunately, the virtual prizes are what gives the game longevity. They aren’t going away, and neither is this issue.

Actually I feel that these daily purchases makes dropping in much easier.

When Ember Bay first came out I would do everything on 3 characters. Then it dropped to just 4 hearts and some of the bosses then it was 4 hearts on one character and now it has dropped to nothing on any character. I have stopped partly because I know I can get 200+ petrified wood a day if it ever came to that(the chance of this is extremely low) so at worst I would need 2 days or a weekend to get everything I needed.

Why are Aggro mechanics purposefully Vague?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Khisanth.2948

Khisanth.2948

So, can we conclude then that the game old “don’t bring more toughness than the ‘tank’” isn’t valid anymore (for aggro reasons that is, since mobs in this game doesn’t care for whoever thinks of themselves as ‘the tank’)?

That was never 100% valid in this game. Bosses, especially new ones, have always used an AI to decide on the target. It could be any of the following:

  • First to damage or most recent to damage
  • Lowest health
  • Highest toughness.
  • Nearest target or farthest target.
  • Doing the most damage.

And quite possibly a mix or none of the above as well?

I agree, yet you often hear “don’t bring more toughness than the ‘tank’” every now and then. I think this ‘myth’ is busted.
Whether it’s optimal to run with high toughness if you’re not ‘tanking’ (lol) is another question completly, but imho it’s not a argument for breaking aggro from the tank, since the mechanics in this game simply doesn’t work that way.

I think I’ve yet to see mobs stand still and only hammer away on the wanna-be tank in this game…

Uh yes and no. The only place where “bring a tank” is relevant are raids and bosses there DO use that specific rule.

Khisanth.2948

Some enemies create the illusion of doing that. I was joking in the Labyrinth that someone needs to teach the gargoyles to stack because it’s annoying that they come out the door and go in all directions, then realised that’s actually much more sensible than standing in a stack of AoE’s. But I agree it would be nice to see some of them actually reacting sensibly to what players do.

They should be dead before they have a chance to move apart. :P

And without actual AI players can learn and adapt much faster than the enemies. If one is programmed to move out of AoE players will just stop using them, if it moves around a lot they’ll immobalise it and so on and it becomes little more than another ‘gimmick’ of that particular fight.

Player skill balance would also need to be very different for that type of situation. Mobs did move out of AoEs during one of the first beta weekends. That didn’t end well. Constantly running mobs would also make melee characters very annoying to play.

It would be extremely hard, if not impossible to make those things stack.

Unrelated to the primary thrust of this topic, but couldn’t you add a Mystic Forge recipe to combine 4 25-use BL kits into 1 100-use BL kit, and then 2 100-use BL kits with 2 25-use BL kits to get a 250-use BL kit? That would be pretty legendary if so, because I currently have ~30 BL kits and they’re way too valuable to just waste.

How about stuff like the PvP reward boxes?

You’re intended to open those, not store them.

I undertsand why you don’t want to put crafted things in. Would it be hard to at least make more things stackable in the bank, like the various salvage kits, harvesting tools, etc.?

Every month I end up getting quite a few BL salvage kits. It’s great to get them for free, but it would be even better if they stacked.

Just increase the kitten population per map. It’s ridiculous how fast they fill up. Compare it to WoW where you have hundreds and thousands of players in the same instance and then look @GW2 where the servers are full with 100-200 people. It’s kitten ridiculous in 2016.

I don’t thing the engine is optimized enough to allow this without completely destroying itself and our computers in the process. Never mind how trivialized the actual events would be with three or four times as many people doing them.

I would rather they deal with TD’s specific issues, as mentioned above. The map itself needs to be more appealing and more rewarding, and the meta needs some leeway so that it’s not so sudden death.

Exactly. TD suffers the same problem that TT does. It requires far more coordination from people who know what they are doing to finish it, and its rewards are on par with or worse than the other metas (or world bosses in TT case). The meta needs to be reworked, and the rewards should probably be increased a bit.

At the very least it should be updated so that a single lane failing is not an immediate failure for the entire meta event.

o_O?

TD doesn’t really need much coordination beyond “my lane is almost done, who needs help?” and maybe making sure Nuhoch has enough people to stomp.

The one lane failing it for everyone thing does render it pointless to even try to do the event unless you are pretty much sure that you will be able to pull it off.

Yes … although I don’t recall the reason for the change. Might have been at the same time as the NPE.

Edit: You don’t need to be nearby for an event to show but it will only show the nearest which can be annoying with broken events or events with long timers.

It is weird, and unfortunate. It could be though that no one else there knew enough about the meta to be willing to put up a tag and help organize. Not many people do the TD meta compared to the other 3 maps in the first place, and of those that do, very few would be able to effectively lead a group.

or the effort simply isn’t worth the reward

depending on what the person is after it might be better for the meta to fail ASAP
