Players going into 5-man dungeons, which, IMO is the glue that holds MMOs together, and experiencing tedious disarray due to the lack of any role structure whatsoever, is almost without question the #1 reason why the game started hemorrhaging players right after launch. I had many friends that started playing that all gave me that same feedback when they stopped. In fact, most of them couldn’t even find anything else to really criticize about the game (except maybe the PS, which doesn’t matter nearly as much, and the problems with the karka event).
That does not add up. Literally. If there was a significant portion of the players who want that then there should be absolutely not problem for them to find like minded people to play with.
Arenanet ultimately ended up blaming the dungeon team and firing them (or, at least, the main guy behind the dungeons), when the problem was more on the side of profession design, and remains that way to this day, although elite specs started chipping away at the “DPS only” meta. Needless to say, this reaction was very short-sighted. FotM can never carry all the weight of all five-man content. The game needs new, expansive, thematic dungeons out in the world that don’t have barriers to entry. Arenanet needs to reinvest in dungeons and in tinkering with the professions to provide viability to several different roles, with the ability to both heavily focus on up to three and the ability to hybridize between them. An example would be a Revenant using Glint and Jalis, specializing in tanking and boon support, or an elementalist specializing in healing and control. Here are a few possible options that players could specialize in:
It has been possible to have different roles since the beginning of the game. The effectiveness of some of those roles have been questionable but that is due to the design of the encounters. Dungeon encounters for much of that time. If the dungeon team is not to be blamed for the design of dungeon encounters then who is?
And yet I’ve never experienced “utter confusion, chaos, and disarray due to the lack of any role structure”, not even once.
I’ve experience that but it was primarily caused by two things.
1) general lack of experience by multiple party members
2) lack of communication which typically came down failure to communicate if or which of the various gimmicks people have come up with to deal with the encounter where if it fails even if it is just one person who isn’t in on the plan
Try to use DH with longbow. I saw a solo player kill the golden ooze by luring him in circles (healer oozes can´t catch the golden ooze) and shooting from distance with longbow with some traps to help the dps.
Btw, Legendary Vinetooth Prime is much harder to kill. It took me 1 week to find a map with players who know that we must cc him.
it’s not harder to kill but easier to fail which is not quite the same.
I am slightly surprised that 10 people couldn’t manage to kill the ooze fast enough
There are two Woomulla chests on the list, are you absolutely sure you are at the correct one?
Asymmetry isn’t necessarily bad. There are several asymmetric gloves that aren’t lopsided. Asymmetry doesn’t imply lopsided that is just what the artist decided to go with. Maybe they needed to avoid clipping issues with shields since it’s on the left hand …
Uh .. I just tested this and it is actually the opposite.
Starting with 51% LF in DR
Walk into the port to Ebonhawke end up with 69%
Walk back through portal into DR and it is now at 58%
→ Ebonhawke 78%
→ DR 65%
→ Ebonhawke 88%
→ DR 74%
I have them half reset …
The berry nodes generally have two nodes right next to each other. One of those have reset but the other has not. Timer can’t account for that.
Just toss this on the pile with the rest of the “bugs that will never be fixed” and move on …
Are you going too close to the ground? You can get hit by the ground’s effect even without touching it.
why wait when you can just add up the numbers? it’s not like vitality’s contribution to total health is an unknown …
They still give you the same amount of AR …
You can convert them back into fractal relic from the vendor.
Horizontal Progression is advancing through the game at the same capacity/strength throughout all the content (more or less).
For instance, GW1 is a Horizontal Progression game. You get max weapons and armor easily and early. Then you just play through the content in the game without worrying about getting new gear and having to grind out a new tier every year or so. All content is geared towards the gear you got in the beginning, with nothing stronger to make you feel left behind if you are not grinding the newest dungeon for the newest tier.
You progress through the game with the same strength from since you started, just experience new content. Hopefully that is an understandable explanation.
The reason some find this better, is cause it allows you freedom to play when you want and how you want.
In Vertical Progression, you are constantly chasing that carrot to get the next strongest gear. But you never ever reach the end. New gear is always added and it is a never ending cycle. And if you just hit max level and go PvP, you will always get destroyed by someone more geared than you. And you can’t experience new content unless you grind old content to get gear so you can survive to get the new gear.
With Horizontal Progression, you never have to do that. You will always be equal, no matter what new content comes out. You don’t feel forced to have to grind a new set of gear to be up to par with everyone else. You don’t feel forced to play 24/7 to be competitive cause your gear is outdated. Your gear will always be the best anyone can get, and you will always be able to participate in any new content cause gear will never be stronger. So you will never have that feeling of being left behind or not up to par.
So what the hell is the point of having the gear in the first place?! Freaking pointless.
There is absolutely no character progression in this game, unless you consider completing some scrub dungeon with no benefits as progression. Stale and boring. I keep coming back because I ask myself “Why did I quit” and am very quickly and thoroughly shown. So no, you don’t have the freedom “to play how you want” because if I did have the freedom, I would see my character grow in strength. Instead I get to grind out legendaries for the 4th time for fashion. What deep gameplay. At least I get to “explore” right? Lmao.
This thread is 4 years old. That guy isn’t likely to answer you.
It only showed month and day. I thought it was 4 days ago.
You can click on the date to change it to years.
You can also hover your mouse over it for the full date.
They were originally going to remove the WvW buffs with the introduction of skirmishes but either they are delaying that or not going to remove it anymore. There was a few bugs display bugs initially but that has been fixed already.
There is no reason for that ring to behave completely different from the rest of the LS2 ascended trinkets …
All the other trinkets’ availability is account bound but this one ring is per character.
6000 unbound magic + 500 winterberries is not very expensive
I am a chronic world completer, meaning I do all the underwater quests, too. I can tell you that on some of my toons, I forgot to change out the breather you get at around lvl 40-50 ( either levelling reward or story reward ) and it literally did not matter/I did not notice until I checked what ascended gear that toon is still missing. Unless you plan on spending 99% of your time underwater or running the water fractal, an ascended breather does not really add a lot to your toon ( other than the joy of having everything ascended ).
My advice would be to pick, per toon, the same stats as that toon’s armor/weapons. So, Berserker breather for Berserker armor, Knight breather for Knight armor, and so on.
I’ve had friends who ran fractals with me do the highest level aquatic fractal with the breather they started with just fine.
the elite specs are only select on the third trait line
There is a combined cap of 15k from daily and the old (discontinued) monthlies.
You might have sold it to a vendor …
Try checking with Craftsman Hobbs in LA. If it’s missing it’s possible he can provide a replacement. Otherwise…maybe it’s a bug and you might have to open a support ticket
You can buy the chest from him again for around 10k karma.
o_O
Do you mean Entangle? Binding Roots has a 20s recharge, 3.25s cast time and is from Avatar of Melandru which has a 3 minute recharge with a 20s duration.
You get it on every character who does that story step or you can just buy as many as you want from the vendor in Tarir.
Thermal tubes and gliding seems fine in Bloodstone Fen and Ember Bay but their placement in Bitterfrost Frontier doesn’t seem to be very good.
Stuns, knock downs, fears – unacceptable.
Slows, when traversing a zone without mounts – unacceptable.
More mobs (w/Slows) packed into an area that you must traverse, and would die if tried to clear – unacceptable.
Conditions, without enough tools to remove them, while playing solo, and without sacrificing abilities needed to DPS – unacceptable.
These were my thoughts on the new zone. Otherwise, the tree areas were absolutely stunning.
Their attacks are slow and easily dodge-able. The only noticeable condition there is chill and will unlikely be the cause of your death.
The mob AI in this game is the worst I have ever seen in any video game and is like beating target dummies. Pretty much all of the non event mobs and most of the event mobs die in seconds. To me it just seems like a l2p issue more than a mob issue.
The AI seems to have gotten worse in the new zone. I frequently notice confused mobs running back and forth trying to decide if they should fight me or not. This also makes them more annoying to fight especially when combined with the chill spam.
For over three years we had to put up with mobs that don’t move and could barely cast a single skill if they had any at all, and would generally die easily to a single, undergeared player with almost no build pressing their #1 button.
That is what is unacceptible.
What we have now is just the very beginning of what we should have, challenge. Though the mob AI still has a long way to go, it is better.
If you don’t like it ,don’t play video games.. its what they’re for.
The only real gripe I have is that in Bloodstone Fen it seems like mobs overswarm you and have too much health compared to the other newer maps. But every map seems to have gimmicks like this, such as Auric Basin having too many chargey things, and Tangled Depths being too excessive on the Chak goop.
I think this is kind of how ArenaNet intends it ?
There is challenge and then there are cheap tricks. A challenging fair fight is good. A fight where the mob uses nothing but hard CCs followed by oneshots would be terrible.

Sounds like it wasn’t actually completed. If it is complete the tank should be hanging around the start of the adventure and shooting at stuff.
You only need to go there for a couple achievements and the mastery point.
The PoI can be obtained without the elixir. I did that on my second character just to check. Just use the thermal turn on the side of the cliff with the warning sign next to it.
The achievements give 3, 2 and 1 for a total of 6.
I think I was at 50% then did an Octovine …
Bloodstone Fen and Ember Bay require doing the story to get there at least for your first character. Once you get there you can buy a scroll that other characters can use to get there. Teleport to Friend might work as well.
That is assuming you have the episodes unlocked.
The new zone Bitterfrost Frontier might not require doing the story since there is a portal into it.
Did you restart the story at some point?
I don’t understand. What do I do to get this buff and get karma from kills
You buy it from the unbound magic vendor.
Bitterfrost Frontier also has the same buff.
It is a permanent account wide buff that is automatically applied when you are in the map.
It’s the same issue as before. Also stripped the guild buff from every character.
You should be dodging and moving out of the way of things on every class but on easier content there is no need to do that on any class.
Damage in T4 fractals is in a weird spot right now, especially in the older fractals. Our new fractals focus on damage from sources that are more visibly telegraphed, and we’re moving forward with that design philosophy for all of our reworks and new releases.
No one likes being killed by something they didn’t see coming, and while some of the current damage sources are fair, many of them feel too punishing. You’re going to see this become more balanced as time goes on and we get more reworks out.
Today’s release of Nightmare shows off this new encounter design framework in full force, I encourage you to take a crack at it and let us know what you think.
These wolves are just poorly designed regardless of where they are found. At close range they can basically twitch a bit and hit you for 20k damage delivered as two separate hits and yes I am aware that you can mostly avoid it by standing at maximum melee range(~130 units) but that doesn’t feel like it makes the design justified.
The weird thing is that despite the timegating regular quartz still seems to be more valuable than the charged quartz.
You see tons of people mining Iron Ore nodes but almost nobody on Quartz, just because in roughly the same amount of time, one can get 30+ iron versus like six quartz.
Also because the quartz nodes are account bound. Mine it on one character and you are done. That will drastically decrease the number of people you see around those nodes.
Whoever is selling Sheets of Charged Ambrite doesn’t seem to care about the price of quartz.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
These are also available from the map bonus system.
You might think it is expensive to buy but on the other hand they aren’t really valuable enough to worth going after them either. It is a terrible price point.
Craftings cats seems a bit weird.
some time ago they were considering to add slots at material storage for such items as petrified wood, blood rubies, tenebrous crystals etc so we might see that implemented on the next update or the one that follows
That would be nice but there is also no need to carry them around with you since you can spend directly from your bank.
There is! The Snow Pile is a platform ledge decoration, but they can be used to make snow makers, which I don’t think is in that list on the wiki.
The snow pile doesn’t have snowballs. The snow maker makes it snow but again, no snowballs. If possible, I think the snowballs would be a good addition this year.
The snow maker gives you a snowball when you interact with it.
So some guy had issues because he logged in and ran immediately to end game content without even learning the basics and then he didn’t know his skills or what to do. He refused to listen to any help or advice and we’re supposed to take from that that this game is what was at fault?
Sounds like an impatient little kid.
Also no amount of guidance will help a person who isn’t interested in learning.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
and it doesn’t even have the usual broken scaling issue
I like how this thread starts with asserting that there is an issue with Octovine failing and then it turns into suggestions on how to make it fail more often.
That would imply there are multiple items with that name with different items ID.
Did you open the chest?
East already has stuff that can knock people out of the air …
As for excluding some people from some weapons that’s true of any design they could come up with. I couldn’t use Frostfang because as well as finding it dull it’s too blocky to suit the character I’d give it to. I can’t use incinerator because my elementalist is a sylvari and the nature theme extends to her weapons (she uses a primordius dagger and a corrupted shard, which look like they’re forged from fire and ice) – an obviously manufactured weapon would look completely wrong on her.
Incinerator also has a good chance of making your ears bleed if you use it on the main hand with an elementalist.
Cooldowns are not shared unless you are trying to use two of the same sigil.
There is a 3 or 4 day delay for accessing the TP. It is probably to avoid issues involving stolen credit cards so simply getting money isn’t actually validating anything.
Actually I am pretty sure the code doesn’t get automatically applied if it was bought from anywhere else. Also doesn’t make sense to buy from anywhere else while the official site has it for 50% off while the other places are probably still at regular price …
Custom arenas can already go from 1v1 to 10v10 …
PvP doesn’t really seem all that successful despite the prizes. If that is not true then maybe they should work on that perception issue first.
If you bought it from guildwars2.com there is an email that acts as the receipt which includes the code.
Meanwhile … I got none.
