Main problem with the fix is that once people have unlocked the stuff that they wanted you are right back at where you started.
The only place I can think of with very high spawn rate is Bitterfrost Frontier.
Oh if you are actually referring to events then some have very stupid scaling. GW2 doesn’t really have quests so it’s hard to tell.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
The only way to increase the level is to get upgrades. It doesn’t matter which. I guess in this case whichever looks cheapest. Most give 35 XP but restoration ones will give 100 XP which is enough for a level. I don’t have any suggestions for that. For my guild we have the ultimate goal of getting everything but went for stuff that looks useful to us first such as the various buffs provided by the tavern.
Is the guild at least lv15?
and many of the master and grandmaster were just that crappy.
Some of them still are.
Originally, one could dabbled into all of the trait lines, but you only had 14-traits’-worth of options, so you needed to make your decisions well. Needless to say, there was a ton of diversity.
That is an overly polite way of saying “wow the master and grandmaster traits in this trait line are so terrible let me see where I can find a minor adept trait that is better”.
Excelsior.
Two people figured my main problem out: Super annoying CC in narrow spaces, corridors and bridges.
One of the first HoT annoyances was a steep, winded walkway up to a rock/boulder that lead to a bridge. That path was filled with like 10 caterpillar things that knocked me back and forth. I literally could not proceed there. That was one of the moments where I really yelled “Bad game design!!” at the screen and shut it down. That was on my Engineer (with Scrapper being unlocked but I hate that “Elite” trait and the Stilson wrenches – but no skill points to spend in so far as I just entered the jungle).
Not sure how that works out with thief / daredevil, but being bounced back and forth is not a challenge at all. Especially when every (!) thing is attacking you; I’d rather have mobs that decide not to attack you when you’re posing a threat to them (e.g. comparing your stats to a mob’s thresholds – numbers too high? Better don’t attack the player).
Or projectile-blocking enemies. As Engineer, trolololol. Until I could come close to them, I died already. But oh well, that is probably another “challenge”, a “git gut” problem or “trait misconception”.
I have gone through HoT a dozen times for both the story and world completion but I can’t think of any area like that unless you thought tendrils were catepillars during prisoners of the dragon but you were supposed to use grenades for that.
Inclines are a fairly bad design element in GW2 mostly because the game engine doesn’t handle them very well.
Yes, the glider skill is learnt after Glider Basics mastery in Maguuma. https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Gliding
The story line doesn’t appear to be essential, frankly. I used the Lev 80 booser for one character and went straight Maguuma without it. But having the story behind you, creates a better atmosphere. There is quite a lot happening in Maguuma and a lot of references to past events.
“Torn from the Sky” needs to be done once on the account to unlock masteries so that is pretty important. The rest of the story is technically not absolutely required for masteries but the story achievements account for a decent chunk of easily obtainable mastery points.
Agreeing to disagree on specifics is fair enough – any denigration of AD&D won’t be tolerated, though
Our DM took weeks (at least) to prepare his campaigns. The throw of the dice controls all often enough, though, to always make things fun.
That just doesn’t happen in GW2.
Success and failure shouldn’t come down to luck of the roll. That might be fine for pen and paper but not for a video game.
WvW – 3 per borderland, 4 in EB
last one is probably the krait obelisk in the home instance
And then you find out that you’ll need those HP for the next Elite Spec … I don’t think there are 350 spare HP out there, either, not once you fully unlock the Elite. I could be wrong, but that does seem a large number.
I do like the idea of profession-specific outfits earned through in-game action. I’m just not sure I’d want my HP to go to it.
There are 364 spares.
While I definitely agree it was a step back in the wrong direction, in terms of time taken to repeat, I would say it is very easy if you bring a friend. So long as the ice beast aggros on whoever isn’t needing the achievement, the one who does can just sit up top out of range. If said friend is that good, then you might be able to get both the 5minute kill and stay unfrosty in one instance.
Doesn’t really need to be “that good” to get the 5 minute kill. The time that I got it involved me screwing up quite a few times. Though that was only barely done. :P
i did try it again and my flesh golems charge was able to affect his CC bar but nothing else i did was, my friend who is an engineer couldnt either, as i said the issue has been ingame since the launch of the expansion and nothing has been done about it that i know… it made me quit for 6 months at the beginning of heart of thorns launch and i was getting ready to quit again, fortunately i found a trick that works the majority of the time, if there are 2 or more ppl on the field when the first rift is there… if both hit the rift at the same time it will break his bar, the 2nd time the rift comes it will possiblybug again… repeat with 2 people, it should work again… then it wont bug from then on
That sounds like it is is behaving normally. The bar scales with the number of people so they all have to use the rift.
Meh … there is no diversity without balance. A million permutations with one obvious good one is not more diverse than 100 permutations with one obvious good one.
When you look at what’s the most effective for the least efforts, you can see that it’s roughly the same for every classes : hit hard and fast.
In PvE, you can roughly play whatever style suits you ; it’ll only take more time to get the foe down. In WvW, it’s critical and leads to trends and meta that end up being toxic. I’m not talking about PvP, being unfamiliar with it.
Specifically for PvE, there’s a huge need for utilities and traits rework so that the gap between “what works” and “what I enjoy” becomes the narrowest with any playstyle.
WvW additionnaly needs an increase of base HP in every professions so that fights would last longer, hence allowing profession mechanics to start and work. If the fight finishes at first strike, then it only favors “hit hard and run” tactics.
The cooldown on some of the utilities is just way too long. I remember using Glyph of Storm on my ele and thinking “I like this skill but I can only use it every other fight”. Many of the elite spec utilities have much shorter cooldowns. Some might even be too short.
“can make” vs “will make” profit
for a while I was getting a decent profit from scribing sigil/runes but then I got bored with it.
Reasonable: You can now only loot each AB chest once per cycle per account.
Expected overreaction from ANet: You can now only loot each AB chest once per day per account.
Or just remove the auto rare from the large chests. That’s what is crashing the ecto economy. Multi map farms would still exist but tone down the amount of ectos you can automatically get.
That sounds too reasonable as well.

I ran this last night with a couple of guildies. And yes the same thing did occur, where Modremoth became invulnerable. However, I noticed he had an active break bar, and when I used a Crowd Control skill on it, it fluctuated. So I told the guildies to take down the break bar, and when it was gone, THEN we could start damaging him. The fight progressed normally after that. If he goes invulnerable, and nothing seams to continue, try taking out the break bar.
I do know if you do not have enough CC, or enough players with CC, if that break bar stays up, you may be unable to progress.
Normally you would use the rift to break the bar but it is like some of the posts mentioned it is apparently immune to CC skills as well.
One other important thing to know is that during that section (barring other bugs …) it is possible to get out of combat so even if you don’t have any CCs when you start the fight it is still possible to swap utilities. An elementalist can easily break the bar with tornado and a mesmer has signet of humility.
Perhaps I’m crazy, but the need to sacrifice one skill for another and balance out your build is part of game balance. Not having enough of that is part of what caused the zerker meta. If a boss could one-shot a warrior in full zerk and did that attack more often than one could possibly dodge or endure pain, you’d see toughness used as a stat more often. I’m not saying they should do this, I’m simply saying that I disagree. Giving us reason to leave an all-damage spec is absolutely crucial for good game balance.
Toughness might get more use if they stop being idiots with the mob design. Getting hit for 27k (non-critical) damage with ~2900 armor doesn’t make toughness very convincing. If it crits then the only one that might survive that is a warrior in sentinel armor assuming they were at full health to begin with. Then there is still condition damage which renders that completely useless.
Your suggestion would affect people relying on passive defenses than people using berserker gear. Dead mobs deal no damage but characters with lower DPS will have to fight for longer periods which means they will have to take a lot more of those frequent and harder hits.
Can we please have this armor brought back, i really want the hood for my Charr Elementalist.
https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Guild_Archmage_armorI know we have Devout robes that are similar, but i really love how the hood covers the Charr’s horns on the Guild Archmage armor.
Also, the Devout hood covers one eye which looks really stupid imo.Maybe it could be added to the Legacy Armor Reward Track?
or just adding the rest to the guild armorer
I agree.
This is one of my favourite Living World skins, I used it on my engineer for absolutely ages (I only gave it up when I finally got the green spinal blades, and I still think I might swap back).
I don’t understand why it wasn’t included on the Laurel vendor when most of the other season 1 rewards were added and I think it would absolutely make sense to either add it to that list or add another way to get it in-game.
Maybe they could add it to the new Nightmare Fractal, since it originally came from the Tower of Nightmares.
I think that was one of the “initially there but then got removed” items.
Those sound like fairly standard vampire abilities … also turning into mist.
I dunno, it sounds fun and cool. I’d rather see a necromancer turn into a fiend or some sort of undead creature to do this rather than bats, as that doesn’t really fit the theme.
They could just rework the Shadowfiend command skill to port you instead and blind nearby allies.
Maybe then some people would actually use it.
A teleport that relies on a stupid AI? I doubt that is going to increase its popularity.
“… and without sacrificing abilities needed to DPS – unacceptable.”
This is exactly what balance is. It’s the most vital part of literally every MMO ever. You can max your damage, or you can increase your utilities, or you can be durable, or you can break things down with damage over time (i.e. conditions). To be good at one thing requires you to sacrifice another thing. A lack of variability was what caused the Berserker meta to strangle the gameplay for the first 2 years of GW2 before they finally made other builds actually useful.
He’s right. This game is THE WORST ever for the amount of absurd snares and other annoying cc. Also, there is no cc immunity timer, so a big flaw in game design that permits oh-so-ridiculous chain-cc, not to mention the fact they didn’t bother to code in any kind of resistances AT ALL in the entire game – and this is the only big game to go that route.
Clearly this game was designed to be simple to code and balance, for the purpose of maximizing income while minimizing maintenance and balance issues (which are expensive) – and the actual “fun” and “cool” factors (aka, “fun to play”) are a distant second or third in consideration.
Actually this is the first time where there IS a CC immunity. You get a warmth buff after breaking out of the ice prisons which prevents you from being frozen again.
Yes. Basically each of them gives you an extra salvage. So salvaging an attuned and infused would be like salvaging 3 or maybe 2 normal rings.
If you buy everything that will be around $150 USD
For the clovers the single clover recipe is more consistent but also more tedious. You only need to get 75 since the Gift of Battle will result in getting 2
Check the price of the precursor before starting the collection on it. The collection for some are much more expensive than than buying
I take it you guys don’t have lots of characters?
As far as I know I only ever have 1 at a time. If I get it on a low level character I use it right away, if I get it on a level 80 character I put it in the bank and use it the next time I log into a low level character.
Occasionally I find one I stuck in an invisible bag and forgot to move over, but that’s the only time they stick around.
12 lv80 and enough tomes and scrolls to make another 12 at least …
I think I’ve gotten one … then promptly sold it.
They might be rare and/or few people harvest the sawgills since they aren’t really good for much.
That behavior is the same as what was done with the HoT stuff like the Deluxe Charr Copter.
I just toss them into the bank until I have a stack then turn them into tomes … then wonder what I am going to do with the tomes
Huh? I thought once one character got there all your characters got in so you do not have to repeat the story? You mean they found ANOTHER way to gate it? Kitten.
Why would they make part of the LS account bound?
Well they did make the ability to collect unbound magic account bound…
Which has nothing to do with the story. The stories have always been character bound. Loot and such varies and the choices made for specific ones, such as unbound magic, are separate from that made for the story.
The ability to collect unbound magic and the elixir are pretty much the same. In both cases it requires doing part of the story to discover how some other group has been doing it. White Mantle for unbound magic and Svanir for the elixir.
Oh, I didn’t notice that it was part of the story as I had completed that first. I personally don’t have an issue with the recipe being character bound or account bound. I can understand why access was restricted through the story as it was likely a design choice.
Anyway, it’s now account bound once you’ve earned it after doing the story step after the fix went into place. The issue brought up by the OP has been resolved.
It is still not account bound. You have misread the patch notes.
The fix was simply to prevent your character from forgetting the recipe and for the game to stop forgetting to drop the suet for your character if you restart the episode.
I have a related issue. Currently I can’t purchase additional firestones from the Kodan npc.
I’m really hoping this is a bug? As obviously I don’t want to redo the story anytime I want to access the Bitter Cold qq.
I recommend doing everything you need to do there in one go and then forgetting the place exists except when doing the story. The minimum duration for the elixir is 2 hours so that should be more than enough time to do everything.

Did you by any chance just list some of them for sale? They might be in the waiting list.
Click “O” and go to “My Transactions” > “Current Transactions” > “Selling”.
The screenshot shows that 30 were sold. On the other hand there is no way to tell if OP already picked up the gold from the TP. The only way to check that would be server logs.
Also … make sure your mail is not full because whoever made that system had a few screws lose at the time and the two are somehow related. -_-

Progress should not be loss since you are free to swap around your active track without losing any progress. Not sure about continuing to progress. It will probably swap you to a different track automatically similar to how it swap to a different track after completing one.
You also need Aetherium Capacity 3 which requires Mine Excavation 2

There was a point where applying an upgrade only made it account bound and then only soulbound when the item was equipped. The warning dialog about being soulbound was always there. I am not sure why they decided to go with that fix when the other approach seems more sensible.
AFAIK, it’s always worked this way. You can upgrade fine items without soulbinding them; only masterwork and higher become soulbound
That worked for things all the way up to exotics until it got fixed.
Really???
Bitterfrost Frontier has only 2 waypoints, bad means of map traversal and an isolated southeastern area.
They’re toning down waypoints in favor of adding ways to travel around faster. They’ll probably add another method of travel with the next expansion, in the same way HoT added gliders. The problem with having too many waypoints is that they make the world feel smaller and emptier while making it easy to miss everything in between.
That worked for Ember Bay but whoever did Bitterfrost Frontier didn’t get the memo apparently and did a terrible job of it.
BF also had a decent balance especially with the gliding skills.
(edited by Khisanth.2948)
Seems like the longevity of these maps were never taking into consideration when they were designed. Especially when some of the achievements are tied to metas directly or indirectly have now become somewhat of feats strength to do.
That is not anything new or unique to HoT. There is very little that feels like they’ve thought thing through for the long term.
Not to mention the 3 new living story maps are better designed than the original 4 HOT maps.
Really???

I heard there is a great farming route for berries. Berries can be turned into UM which can be converted to gold. If you only approach it from a profitability standpoint that is mostly true. Also for the berries you only need to deal with 1/2 or maybe even just 1/4 of the map since most of it is in the north west area.

I’ve made some money with rare purple dye but dyes are low volume items. You’ll have to collect your own grapes from the Fields of Ruin grape farm (southeast corner).
At one time brown pigment was valuable so I would gather potatoes from Loreclaw, make brown dye, and salvage.
Promoting bronze to iron ingots works pretty well, again you need to gather your own copper, there is a rich copper vein in the ettin cave in Queensdale where the oak event used to spawn.
You can also make the T7 mats. I got lazy and I let nearly 100 of each mat accumulate, I dread the effort to convert them to gold.
See the common thread in these? You have to go to the effort to collect mats and somehow add some value in order to get some profit.
Even then it is not guaranteed that the result is actually profitable. For example even though Sheet of Charged Ambrite requires a time gated component making and selling it actually causes you to lose a bit of money each time. At one point I think spiritwood and elonian leather were in a similar situation or it was just barely profitable like a handful of silvers.
You make the blueprints then the assembly device makes the item based on that.
Try to use DH with longbow. I saw a solo player kill the golden ooze by luring him in circles (healer oozes can´t catch the golden ooze) and shooting from distance with longbow with some traps to help the dps.
Btw, Legendary Vinetooth Prime is much harder to kill. It took me 1 week to find a map with players who know that we must cc him.
it’s not harder to kill but easier to fail which is not quite the same.
I am slightly surprised that 10 people couldn’t manage to kill the ooze fast enough
Same, i play hot like 1 year, and the ooze never seems a issue. Smoother than Balthazar Champ.
but my 2 cents: single target classes focus on ooze, luring him and making him move in circle, then, the strong aoe guys like elementals, or viper-necros can take care of smaller ones.
Balth can be solo’ed … at least if you don’t mind a bit of cheese >_>
The halloween food give +15% instead of +10% and some of those are extremely cheap such as https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Bowl_of_Candy_Corn_Custard
That is the correct area but that cub can move around since it will follow whoever unfroze it around until it gets frozen again.
Meh … that daily is a waste of berries anyway.
Unless I can have my Charming Noble Human Male charming the living daylights out of Logan Thackeray and Rytlock Brimstone, I’m against this.
You are going to have to fight the Queen and Rytlock for Logan. I guess you have to fight Logan for Rytlock as well. That is going to be a very awkward relationship afterwards.
uh I guess you are a huge fan of polygamy?
if I wanted a dating sim game I don’t think it would be that difficult to find some on steam

all it does is change the color of the icon. It does not contribute ot the meta. IF it did you wouldn’t have gotten the crown.
