Let me try to convince you to bring signet of earth instead of signet of water.

Active: 3s immobilize vs 4s chilled. Immobilized means your opponent can’t dodge, turn, or even move. The most important part of immobilization is the ability to remove a player’s dodging ability. Chill’s skill recharge debuff is nice, I agree, but the debuff only lasts for 4 seconds. 66% extra recharge time for 4 seconds means 8/3 extra seconds on any skill on cooldown. Useful, yes, but extremely difficult to use to its full potential and in the end its just a bit over 2 seconds longer recharge. The speed debuff is inferior to immobilize, even if it lasts for an extra second.

Passive: One condition removed every ten seconds is both unreliable and weak. Rangers are able to cleanse all conditions every ten seconds, but the ability to cleanse 1 condition and you don’t even know when it will be cleansed is not worth it. Signet of Earth’s +100 toughness is just so much more reliable since you always feel it working and you can count on it.

But of course if you still like signet of water then you can do whateva you want

Earth sigil is overall better in my mind too, but I’m building in as much condition removal as possible since I dont use cleansing flame and I want three signets. It does dispel the odd imob/cripple/chill which can get you killed if you’re on the run, which is what I keep it for. Its a bit of a die roll but its a die roll in your favor. In wvwvw, chill works well enough to slow down the runner I want dead, or the guy whos leading the charge.

edit: add to that someone is much more likely to hit their condition removal with imob (i sure as heck hit my teleport usually), where they might let chill slide.

Haha I’m specced identical. Loving it. Works well with my sceptre/dagger build too. Also instead of cleansing flame I use the flash cantrip (up more for one thing and also gets me out of the hot spots better), and signet of water instead of earth for the extra condition removal as well as the chill on demand.

Also for equipment I go a bit less power and tough for a lot of condition damage.

25k potential damage to afkers isn’t worth the trade-off of being a useless piece of tissue after spending all your cooldowns.

Is it just me or does everyone assume Eles only use D/D? -.-

It’s the only weapon set that was nerfed into oblivion, and unlike S/D you can actually land your damage skills without wasting all your CCs.

Correction- you mean the only set which wasn’t nerfed into oblivion am I right?
If so yes I agree with you, d/d is the only set which doesn’t force you into using signets to actually land your skills.

Scepter focus outside dragon’s tooth and phoenix, lack strong heavy hit skills, therefore people have tried to use scepter as glass cannon weapon, trying to make the most out of those signet = “1 hit for 1 kill or I die”, outside glass cannon no sane ele would take scepter for sustained dmg

The advantage of scepter is really just the range on attacks, you dont have to run up into melee range (and melt) like with dagger. Air actually is pretty good for a quick unload and leave, fire is good if you find someone thats not moving too fast (either due to channel or cc, and some people are just so caught up they ignore), healing in water is better than dagger, and earth is.. well earth, best autoattack but rather use the offhand dagger’s offense.

For the most part however when its a lot of ranged I just pull out staff so dunno, teetering on going back to D/D.

Its probably a legit complaint. Looking at the thieves patch notes the damage in pvp varies so much between pve and pvp its probably like a different class.

I’d be very careful going down this road anet, there should be better solutions than to make the classes this bipolar.

Sounds like a rally to me too, its not class specific. Just means someone they were attacking got killed. Elementalists mist form does not rez them and you would still be able to stomp them easy after that.

I like dagger/focus, or scepter/dagger for wvwvw.

I find that there are times when I want ranged and dagger is fairly strictly short range. Highest dps however, so I always want to carry one in one hand however.

I find that scepter/dagger wins out for a range/melee combo, just because if youre going to go ranged scepter has more options than focus.

Interesting challenge. My wife is the same, likes it simple.

Try this, just stay in fire, cantrips provide regen and condition removal as well as extra might, happens automatically. More fire spells keeps ramping up her might buffs too so gets better as she goes, also automatically. Staff for good range and less twitch required. Should hit hard enough. For travelling she can switch to air and get a good speed buff but the air points could be moved to earth for more protection too.

Unless you can show me that the pvp only patch changes only affect spvp then maybe you’ve got a point, but they could easily implement those changes to work in all player vs player engagements. WvWvW is different than pve, in many ways, such as badges of honor etc.

Have you ever read just one skill patch? I don’t think so..

Let’s take the last one for example:

Cloak and Dagger: This skill’s damage has been reduced by 33% in PvP only.

Cluster Shot: This skill’s damage is reduced by 15% in PvP.

Tactical Strike: This skill’s damage has been increased by 10% in all formats. This skill’s daze duration has been reduced from 2 seconds to 1.5 seconds in PvP.

Shield of Judgment: This skill’s protection duration has been set to 3 seconds from 5 seconds in PvP only.

Selfless Daring: This trait had an efficiency with healing power that was reserved for healing skills only and has now been reduced to its intended level. Heal scaling has been reduced by 50% in PvP only.

Do I have to continue?

PvP only actually means: Those skills have been nerfed only in sPvP and tPvP, WvsW would not be affected at all because you use PvE skills there…so what’s your point?

Are you sure it works this way in wvwvw and these patch dont apply there? This is my original provision (duh)?

Its for the interesting gameplay. Sure you could do fine spamming one button as another class, but this class you have to play like concert pianist, with proper timing and all!

Some people arent going to like that idea but some people do, and this is the class for them. It is a very engaging class.

Never used E/A since I figured it was getting nerfed, so dont miss it :p

Conjured weapons need a stability buff to give it utility too. At least we dont lose our traits like tornado which is suicidal, as elementalists we are very tied to our active defenses so an elite needs to account for that.

I can keep my fury up constantly with 5 arcane trait + 2 signets (reduced timer) + 1 aura in frost. I’d feel too vulnerable in pvp without a couple stun breaks. Otherwise I’m pretty similiar, spec the same except instead of water I’m in arcane.

Using scepter/dagger now to increase my range out to 900, but the aura combo works with pretty much any weapons combo.

Oh yea, and use a different site, its painful to have those ads forced on you to see spec.

I’d like to see a buff to tornado elite. Its debateable but the only way I could see using it personally is if there was some kind of protection buff to go with it. Loosing all my active defenses is too costly to make it worth risking. Otherwise it would be a lot of fun.

I can actually give an unbiased opinion, I play both classes, though my mesmer is fully matured and shelved now.

Mesmer

Many escapes, can fool people easily, can keep up swiftness fairly consistent, ranged damage single target good but aoe is meh (with exception of izerker but has cooldown), and little access to damage “spikes”. Very good 1-1 duelist. Extremely good in wvwvw too with null field, pulls and feedback, can shut down a lot of people.

Elementalist

Very versatile, easy to get full time swiftness, gets good mileage out of combo fields, has a lot of escapes too (just not so much as mesmer), better dps but not the best, lots of debuffs. However requires A LOT of knowledge of class and clicking to get it all out there. You’ll have to memorize several sequences of abilities to keep ahead of yourself and push out meaningful damage and effects. The best range aoe in the game (fantastic for wvwvw).

Both are weak to sustained dps but elementalist has very good access to protection, while mesmer has higher health, in addition to active defenses.

Two videos that prove you wrong.
Here’s a video of an Elementalist fighting a zerg. Yeah, she totally dies in seconds. She definitely doesn’t hold off far greater numbers for a really long time, and even get a few kills.

Bad example… the zerg is a bunch of auto attack noobs, I think they were more concerned with taking the supply point then killing the elementalist by far. Pretty hilarious to see though. Good use of escapes, but the best part is when the ele just turns around and run straight through again for no good reason and barely take damage. Cant say its skill more than lack of skill being demonstrated here.

Maybe if tornado had a couple more buffs like protection and/or swiftness with it to prolong your life a bit or something like lich form it would get used more. Its actually a pretty cool elite except you die too fast when you lose all your active defenses, which an ele needs.

Everyone has a bad day now and then. Elementalists are more complicated but thats part of the fun. Go back to practicing your combos in pve a bit, then try again. Thats what I do when I cant seem to get my mojo on.

I wish the elemental just stayed up, I honestly only seem to cast it accidentally, usually forget I even have it. I do get some entertainment out of the air elemental however, in spvp its a lot of fun when I am downed and someone tries to finish, the stun will continually disrupt their stomp. Very amusing to watch and can buy you a lot of time vs 1.

Mostly not very thrilled in general like an elite “should”, but havent tried FGS yet.

Running with soldier amulet i have to max air to get a decent crit chance, and i also like the traits best. But I also have arcana maxed, that to me is a must. I do like the synergy in water but I find I havent needed that degree of condition removal.

I stopped using it because it ended up being half full servers all the time.

Trolling aside, its a great class, love it. Its not UP its just more work, but you “can” get more out of it than many classes. If they increase dps the people that are already playing it well will be very OP, so there is a problem. The only solution would be to dumb it down, like making the attunement switch delay longer and increasing the damage of the longer CD skills, which would make a lot of people upset too that like it as it is.

I like it as a complex class, but thats not to say that there couldnt be some way for people to enjoy it differently if it doesnt take anything away. Probably wouldnt be the best way to play either but if someone wants to, why not let them?

Not a bad idea to give an option like that, but I would use the existing system. There is a trait in air for instance that gets better the longer you stay in air, I would do them like that. Like +5% damage and a buff, that gets better every 10 seconds you stay in attunement, up to 25%. edit: yea make them traits instead of changing the way the class works..

Thats only one part of my argument, the other is the additional work load to make 2 weapons (with 4 attunements each) work!!!!

It would be assumed that we have access to all these abilities while they are balancing. Which includes some very nice fields in staff which could be made extremely powerful with the blasts in dagger. There would be a new round of balancing.

And one of the main complaints I already notice is there are too many buttons to push for this class.

Sorry but I think this would be a step in the wrong direction. If anything push for some long range attacks in d/d, or heavier defenses to outlast a spike.

As long as there are free transfers you’re hurting yourself by not playing along. I held out for a while too. Dragonbrand completely emptied of pvp-ers and anytime I went out it was impossible odds. Now I’ve transfered and am having fun in well matched battles again.

I dont need to win the war, just have a shot at it maybe and win the odd battle.

Hutt ball! I actually hated it at first but got to be my favorite part of swtor.

CTF is obvious. There are variations on CTF too like if the flag goes back on drop or stays where it is for a time then goes back, or just one flag both teams are after (like huttball!). While carrying the flag you could replace skills with “flag skills” so bunker builds lose some of their active defenses.
