Well someone’s being a party pooper.

My comparison to HoX was merely “robed clothy with giant greatsword”, in terms of style it’s fantastic.

Greatsword could very well be a ranged weapon as well just like the Mesmer’s, either way we could definately use another 2hander.

Give Us Greatswords!

in Necromancer

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

Think about it, we’re missing a 2hander and could definately use another weapon to round us out. The game has nothing against clothies going melee, or Mesmers wielding giant greatswords. Necro’s are fairly beefy as clothies go and could easily be seen going toe-to-toe with a greatsword. And finally, Necro’s are lacking a Legendary that really fits, atleast this way we could have access to Twilight.

It could be a sort of Dread/Shadow Knight or Herald of Xotli sort of theme with attacks sort of like the inverse of a Greatsword Guardian, aoe Lifetaps, Control/Debuffs and some basic raw direct dmg.

Just picture your Necro running around with the Greatsword Legendary and cleaving and lifetapping stuff to death.

PICTURE IT!

Beautiful work relegated to town clothes...

in Halloween Event

Knote.2904

I really like the separation of costumes as town clothes as armor. Having people running around fighting as the Mad King would be pretty reidiculous, in my opinion.

Why? Like everyone running around fighting in Flame Legion set? Maybe we should put restrictions so only 10% of the population can wear the same skins or else it will be too “ridiculous”

This game is about cosmetics, who cares if someone wants to fight in Mad King costume or a chef hat, it’s our choice. Anet doesn’t live up to it’s motto “have fun your way”, more like “have fun the way we want you to”.

Who'd buy the skins if they were just available?

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

The game is about cosmetics, nothing needs to be “unique” or “hard to get” as long as it’s a cash shop item.

If the game actually have good variety you’re not going to have 80% of the population wearing halloween skins all year round…

What’s to stop everyone from wearing Flame Legion set 90% of the time?

Does anybody else feel really squishy?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

The game has TONS of dmg flying around, and necro isn’t able to just avoid it like other classes can, they have death shroud and a bit more health, but that’s it. So they end up actually squishier in some cases.

If weakness wasn’t so bad we could basically have some of our protection be from our offensive conditions. Weakness doesn’t even come close to protection however, it needs to be a flat 25% dmg reduction.

Description sounds like Ele/Mesmer/Necro.

As far as Conditions AND control I would say Necro.

Mesmer has good condition builds as well, but the “control” isn’t the same. They do of course have confusion for condition dmg that can act as control as well.

Elementalist is definately more challenging to get into and faster paced, they can do decent condition builds, and Staff is excellent for area denial/control.

All 3 have to rotate for dmg as well, none of them can just auto-pilot or auto-attack dmg, except for maybe Mesmer with 3 phantasms up but that will rarely happen.

You’re really just going to have to try each of them out and see for yourself which you prefer. Taking to the mists helps a bit as u can see your trait/utility options.

MMO's need a grind but not for fluff

I think your answer is in your thread title.

There is a grind but it IS for fluff.

… and the edge in PvP are your superior skills.

I enjoyed 1 shotting with Ambush, or immortal tanking on a disc priest. fluff is cute and all but it will hardly keep any “hardcore” players. You dont feel more superior with a fluffier weapon.

I know this is off topic. But I just had to point this out cause it made me chuckle.

This made me giggle.

But the MAJOR point here should be that casual clothing ruined that part of the game, in gw1 there was vanity icons were you can simply put these costumes in it and it would show off despite whatever gear you had. Personally all casual vanity items are a no-no for me because I spend 90% of my time fighting somewhere, no matter how much I like the hood I wont get it because its unusable for me and toggling between the 2 just to show off for a bit is ridiculous -.-

Agreed.

I really don’t understand their stance on this. Who cares if someone want’s to wear a chef hat into combat, does it really matter? This game is pretty much about Cosmetics, let us wear what we want. =[

Opinion: Costumes as Town Clothes = disappointing

in Halloween Event

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

I must be one of the few that have no problem with the Town Clothes system. We already have purchasable combat skins in the Gem Store, the advantage of the Town Clothes is that they can have abilities. I for one am excited for the Witch Outfit (picking it up tonight). The Cauldron will be a great way for people to spontaneously have fun doing a costume brawl at any point in the year! In WoW my wife had the Foam Sword Rack item and it was always good fun dropping that down in a crowded area and watching everyone go at it.

I do like the Witch outfit, and while it would be cool to have a combat armor version of it, I’m still pretty happy with it as Town Clothes.

Still no reason for hats to be town clothes only.

If Level scaling was gone would you feel motivated to visit lower level areas again?

Are you serious? Thieves are godlike in pve, the only weapon you EVER need is Shortbow. It can do everything. Combined with Caltrops and Signet of Malice there’s nothing you can’t do.

If you’re talking about Pistol Whip, you still use it for the stun/evasion, who cares if it does the same dmg as auto attack? You were better of maintaining Black Powder fields and auto attacking before as well anyway.

Flanking strike is still crap

in Thief

Posted by: Knote.2904

The only thing this ability needs is for the 2nd strike to happen alot faster. The delay is what kills this ability.

in Necromancer

Posted by: Knote.2904

Knote.2904

Go play all the other professions and then compare, you will see how much Necro’s lack in comparison in terms of traits.

I’ve been playing all the proffessions and experimenting with builds since beta, Necro’s build variety is awful and the traits are so uninspired overall. There’s a couple neat ones but not nearly enough.

Go look at all the builds and combo’s a Mesmer can make for example.

Epidemic is a great spell, that’s like the only good thing we have. It doesn’t make us better at condition builds, it makes us better at spreading conditions. Ironically Epidemic would be more effective on another proffession using a condition build because we AREN’T the best condition spamming prof.

Just wondering.

Knote.2904

I disagree with a lot of the things said in this thread.

No good/fun traits
Ritual of Protection in Death Magic line: Give 3 seconds of protection on well cast. This gives protection to all allies in the well radius. With 2-3 wells on your bar and the well CD reduction trait you are better than a guardian at spreading around protection.

Chill of Death in Spite line: Free boon removal and slow when someone is low. So even if they popped swiftness to run away, your conditions will tick them below 25% as they run, then remove the swiftness and slow them. Pretty awesome IMO.

Banshee’s Wail in Curses line: Gives warhorn CD reduction and increases the duration of the effects. With this trait and Spectral Walk you have 100% swiftness uptime. Also the daze goes from 2s every 30s (6% of the fight) to 3s every 25s (12% of the fight). On an AoE daze!!! That is RIDICULOUS.

Foot in the Grave and Near to Death in Soul Reaping line: If you take Foot in the Grave, with the boon duration increase of the Death Magic line (or other +boon duration stuff from armor), you have 4 seconds of stability EVERY TEN SECONDS. That’s 40% stability uptime. You can switch in and out of DS quickly, then down someone no sweat. Alternatively, if you take Near to Death, with other traits you can get 3 seconds of Retaliation, 1 condition removed, and Enfeebling Blood (bleeds and Weakness) cast around you every 5 seconds (though EB has a cooldown). That’s over 60% Retaliation uptime with +boon duration, no other class has that except maybe guardians but I think they were getting that nerfed.

Only 3 builds
Admittedly sPvP builds for necros are limited at the moment, but I’ve found tons of good builds for dungeons, PvE and WvW. You can go all Soul Reaping and Curses, sit in DS in large groups, and spam Life Blast for huge critical damage. You can go crit and daggers for huge life siphoning in the Blood Magic line, or make it more supportive by putting traits in Wells and Staff CD/marks. There’s always minion master, too (though the AI of the minions leaves something to be desired) and even then you have like 20 or 30 points to play around with depending on your playstyle. That’s like 4-5 builds right off the top of my head and I’ve experimented with all of them.

Most boring
No way are necros the most boring class. I have a blast playing as necro. Raining down conditions on players attacking the door of a keep or tower, then spreading those conditions to everyone nearby is amazing – the screen fills with little white numbers. Nothing decimates zerg like a condition necro. I’m having lots of fun trying to make a melee-focused siphon build viable, and I’ve had pretty good success in WvW and PvE so far. Nothing gets away from a dagger/warhorn necro.

Yes, there are lots of bugs, but I’m gonna stick with the class for the long term. I’m so glad I chose it at the start. Things can only get better from here (however slowly).

This is definately reaching.

Now go compare it to other classes will you?

Our traits are severely lacking.

TBH I don’t know how they’ll balance the game WITHOUT splitting.

WvW, PvE, and SPvP are 3 COMPLETELY different beasts and balance is completely different between them all. Since PvE has pretty much no endgame or anything they could throw PvE balance away I suppose, but WvW and Spvp balance is still completely different.

it doesnt really matter how you slice it. gambling with your money is a poor choice.

i really like the concept of the game, but this topic does drive me up the wall. i have seen it in many f2p games. they do these gamble things to take advantage of those who lack self control and will keep spending their money until they win. its in poor taste, its low class, and its demeaning to those who actually do try.

if they are that desperate for money then i can expect nothing more than to be dissappointed for buying gw2.

People with no self control, a.k.a. people that want the skin, lose a ton of gold/money on gambling for it.

People with self control, a.k.a. people that refuse to gamble, won’t get a skin.
