I think you’re confusing the word “Axe” with “Wells”.
And no, you aren’t getting 12k with Ghastly Claws.
Even in WvW against a lvl 1 naked char with a zerker set completely buffed lvl 80 necro with 25 bloodlust sigil stacks 30/20/0/0/20 traits and 25 stacks of vuln/might
I doubt you’ll get 12k, with ALL of that, maybe, but I still doubt it.
Also, WvW is an awful example of dictacting balance, especially because of my example above, PvE stats are inflated compared to Spvp, and there’s alot of lowbies you’re fighting in WvW.
That video showed how good wells are at pumping out aoe dmg and that’s it.
Axe is bad and needs help, all you’re doing is possibly impeding progress.

Some classes have too much, some have too little.
Some is too passive. Some don’t have enough reactive cleansing (rangers) and get screwed in the kitten by immobilize.
I’m sure we’ll get some love on the 15th fellow Necro brother.
Hang in there baby.
God they have so much to work on.
Events and tagging are such a kittening mess.
The fact that there is so much of this along with the game not having any sort of interesting rotation or much variety in attacks makes it get really tedious after a while.
Was just doing an event where u have to kill 3 champ mobs that have a massive amount of health and absolutely no mechanics, literally people just run around in a circle and kite them.
Takes like 15 minutes of just auto attacking and the occasional strong cooldown attack. Christ it’s boring. Not really sure what they were thinking when they made these.
It’s like champ/vet hp scaling is overtuned while hp scaling of regular mobs is completely non-existant, on top of this horrible tagging system. It’s just a mess.
The horny bandit strikes again!
Hide yo char’s.
The reason for 8v8 hotjoin is because devs believed that a larger format would be more appealing to casual players, by putting less focus on individual performance. Jon Peters cited the example that in Team Fortress 2, Dustbowl is by far the most popularly played map, due to its large size.
The concept is that by having more players in a game, there’s more room for an individual to make mistakes without affecting their team’s overall performance too badly. This in turn would theoretically make it easier for new players to learn game mechanics without being forced to face more experienced players in 1v1 fights, where they would become frustrated due to their lack of experience.
It’s a nice concept, but it falls apart in reality:
- This isn’t an FPS. You can’t hang back with your group and snipe a guy in the face without putting yourself in any personal danger.
- Games that allow large team sizes also have maps to accommodate them. The maps in this game were designed for 5v5, and were not enlarged to accommodate more players. This is why a rolling zerg is a viable strategy in 5v5, and why newer players just find themselves getting stomped by huge groups in 8v8.
It seems like the community generally agrees that 5v5 would be a better format for hotjoin. The nice thing is that there’s a really easy way to determine the truth of that. Make half the hotjoin games 5v5 and half the hotjoin games 8v8. See which gets played more.
Not to mention FPS is mainly all about ranged combat.
Also the maps here just aren’t made for 8v8.
I wouldn’t mind an 8v8, 10v10 or w/e Spvp MAP.
But everywhere? Meh.
Yeah it’s true lol.
Just swapped my axe for sceptre for my well rounded stats.
The direct dmg on sceptre isn’t too far off compared to Axe, but with the extra bleeds on top.
But who am I kidding? I stay in staff about 99% of the time anyway.
Staff/Death Shroud is my real weapon set. lol
“Wow that guy mastered Death Shroud”
I think the fair comparison would be SoM to our Blood Fiend.
SoM is far superior
It doesn’t help that most dungeons are boring and/or obnoxious.
Where is the love for Hylek?
Casual play comes first.
They need to just follow LoL’s example.
Plague Form really is only effective on a single person. If you use it against 2 people and they’re not completely stupid they will just split up and one of them gets to sit there and dps you down.
I’m wondering, while in DS, do all these life siphon skills like heal on crit and wells or what have you, do they restore HP while in DS?
Nope, and it’s sort of contradicting.
Some of our survivability is based on our constant regen/healing yet going into DS basically cancels out some of our survivability for, some other survivability.
Sometimes I wish our DS/life force mechanic was more like Mordekaiser’s passive.
The fact that it doesn’t makes it really useful when trying to loot considering how atrocious it is in this game.
Fire/Air or Bloodlust. Or both.
Also to answer your specific question, Strength.
Only one’s that suck are the rectangle greatswords.
Everything else is awesome though, Anet doesn’t care about other weapons.
^ I gotta say, it feels a little unfair Mesmer/Thief/Guardian are allowed to faceroll in pvp, have varied builds and have more fun overall than us.
Should’ve just left us the way we were. =/
It’s not like being nerfed that early warranted any earlier buffs.
Pfft, I kinda HOPE they nerf Well of Blood.
Pretty much how entire bulk of healing and survivability is baked into a healing power boosted Well of Blood. We’re so cooldown based as it is
^ Why wouldn’t they?
Yes.
For the most part, yes.
^ I haven’t thought about that. Brilliant lmao.
Not necessarily in terms of strength or effectiveness.
What I really like about Epidemic, is that it defines us as Necromancers. It’s unique only to us, something to make other classes look at us and be jealous. It’s also extremely satisfying and has high potential.
Also more importantly, it has alot of style. It looks awesome, in fact it actually looks ALOT like a similar spell Magus in Warhammer had, that same swirly radiating effect.
What I’m mainly talking about is Aesthetics. I want necro’s to have more awesome and defining animations like that.
Fear was originally supposed to be that as well, but that’s sort of out the window by now.
Considering Toughness is the ONLY stat that lifesteals scale with I’d say yes. =p
Knote – I think you haven’t read the original post….this entire thread isn’t about balance, it’s about adding a new weapon because we only have 6 while the mesmer has 7 and the Ele has over 60 skills which amounts to 10 weapons
Everyone else – Torch works, I’d be very happy about that but I’d love if it was a green flame.
I loved your idea about how the weapons are put into the area of death and despair, I feel that the pistol would fit so perfectly into that setting as it’s been a morbid piece of human history for the last…what? 350 years? I have no idea.Archmagel – Intresting…I hadn’t thought about the skills. I mean I think it would be ranged, or melee with a cleave (as we sorely lack that, as why I wanted rifle/pistol) but I’d think explode minion would work nicely as a skill, Taint steel could also work, ranged skill that causes weakness and vulnerbillity. Sweep legs, crippling. A gap closer would be nice (Think ranger greatsword launch) but I really have no idea
I wasn’t referring to you. =p
I was talking to the poster above me.
I will say that I find Greatswords rather smexy, but just don’t see a way we could use them. Nope, we definitely aren’t squishy, but it just seems odd to me.
Ok, idea that might change my thoughts. What skills would you think we would have with the Greatsword?
Personally if it were to happen, something akin to being stronger with more enemies around you. AoE Lifetaps, aoe Debuffs, and sort of the opposite of GS Guardian.
Some kind of epic looking, low cd cleave #2 attack that steals life for each condition on them. Auto’s could be slow cleaving attacks that applies Weakness/Vuln. 4th skill could be just a simple 600 aoe that attaches to targets and lifesteals as long as they stay in range, if they move too far it shatters for dmg and chills. 3rd skill could maybe be like Infiltrator’s Strike, 600 range shadowstep that drops a dark or poison field, and if your target is in melee attack range you can teleport them back with you. 5th skill could be a defensive move, a 300-450 range Aura that does a mini daze every couple seconds, like 1/4 Daze per 2 seconds over 6 seconds and maybe a random condition and a bit of swiftness.
Some of that might be OP, but it’s just an example of how i’d view the weapon set.
If the Greatsword were to be a ranged weapon like Mesmer’s, then I’d prefer to have it be sort of Minion Master ish. Basically spawning temporary weak minions that function like Phantasms. Could have a reaper pet with good uptime that harvests Life Force for you. A very low cooldown bone minion spam, small decent dmg and a bleed and has a leap to keep up with targets, etc.
Frankly, I could care less really what weapon, I’d just like another weapon period. Even if it means Rifle which would just seem SOOOO out of place. I’d use it.
(edited by Knote.2904)
They said it was less intimidating for newbies to join and play, as they don’t feel like they’re hampering the game with their poor play as much.
Wow so your argument for aesthetics is class balance? Really?
Oo
I’d be ok with a cooldown nerf on Epidemic if it lasted for a couple seconds after using it to basically auto spread any new conditions.
Greatsword is over-used and over-rated. it’s also the most expensive weapon type on trading post
And greatsword would fit perfectly if we had heavy armor. We don’t, we have cloth.
A pistol that can fire green flames or the like would be great. It’s about making use of what weapons we have available to us. Not “OMG GREATSWORDS XDDDDD”
Yet mesmers use greatswords and don’t wear heavy armor.
HoX’s in AoC were clothie mages that used 2 handers and were a mage/melee hybrid.
I don’t see the argument. Besides we’re not squishy.
What is with the all the “realism” all of a sudden. “A necro couldn’t hold a greatsword” Really? lol.
I don’t understand why he couldn’t just have came with us as we closed the gate, it’s like he just wanted to die for no reason and pretend it was noble. z.z
Well, imagine it like this. You and few others are escaping a horde of monstrous undead counting in thousands and try to lock them behind a door to buy yourselves an extra minute to run for the ship. If Tybalt had not distracted them, you never would have been able to push the doors shut due to the huge numbers of undead trying to push back.
Distracted them? There was literally like 50 5 feet away from him right as the gate closed and he slowly walked towards them. He just died instantly. Was basically suicide for no reason lol.
Most of what you said.
But my main gripe is the low amount of customization we have.
Traits aren’t completely doing their job imo. They need to change these up alot more.
I don’t understand why he couldn’t just have came with us as we closed the gate, it’s like he just wanted to die for no reason and pretend it was noble. z.z
I don’t really understand why people say Greatsword doesn’t make sense on a Necro, then suggest sword, and even a rifle/pistol…
Look at any Necromancer/Warrior hybrid (Shadow/Dread Knight), great sword fits perfectly.
But w/e. =p
I just want another weapon, anything.
This is also my worry for when they plan on pumping out new content.
They have such a massive world that’s sort of going to waste. I would like for them to also improve on the old zones and add some incentive/carrots to go back to them.
1. I HATE hearts, with a passion. HATE HATE HATE.
2. No hearts made me love Orr, so many different events in their place just run around and explore.
3. It’s not easy mode, the rest of the game is just WAY too easy. And while the occasional CC on the mobs is annoying, it’s really not THAT bad. I would love to have a zone that’s maybe even harder just to encourage grouping up with people and just going out to explore and deal with really dangerous mobs. Old school MMO style.
Yes, my necro is not too pleased with this underwater zone.
I thought they were fun the first 5 or so play throughs, but they were a bit too shallow to enjoy much further than that. The fact that they implemented them though shows ALOT of potential and I really hope to see it go further.
And to the red if they’re still reading this thread. 4 words.
Costume Brawl + Reaper’s Rumble.
Unique skill sets per costume, Moba-style map.
Pure win.
I actually don’t agree. And I’ve beaten it atleast 100 times now.
Through persistence you get better at it, persistence is the only way you WOULD beat it. Some people have to spend more time til they nail the jumps, others less. I don’t think that’s a sound argument.
I wouldn’t mind it hanging around for a couple more weeks, especially if they gave use a title for 100 wins or something for us “exclusives”. Hell even better if they added more difficulty to it over time lol.
Unfortunately I skipped out on buying Phantom Hood because it’s town clothes only which means it’s 100% useless to me. =[
So yes please.
To the poster above me. I think it’s ridiculous for female mesmers to go out fighting with giant dresses and panties showing. but what am I gonna do?
Basically this : I’d like to make use of Autotargeting, it’s an extremely handy feature, however I’m forced to not use it because I like to reliably use my mobility skills in the directions I choose to go.
Such as Ride the Lightning, Warrior Charges, Necro Underwater Dash, Heartseeker, etc, etc.
With Autotargeting, if something is in front of you, you will target it and dash toward it instead of just dashing forward like you’d much prefer to do.
And being invincible indefinately via Ele/Guardian bunker is even MORE crippling to the scoreboard.
Solo queuing tpvp shouldn’t be possible IMO. It’s a tournament, it should require a full group to be queued together.
Why?
Why can’t there be a competitive but still slightly casual Solo Queue, a Free Team Tourny and a paid Team Tourny?
LoL has Solo Queue and I think it helps ALOT for them in terms of Esports. It lets the more casual partake in competitive play, it’s a great entrance going from Hotjoin into Competitive play, a good way to find a team/players and get your name out there. It’s also another carrot besides skins (that get dyed anyway…), get better and watch your number grow.
Right now it’s choose between getting farmed by Premades or play in the 8v8 clusterkitten.
The thing is, that all you are asking for is a tournament for a “lower” lever of tournament play. Because to be honest, puging means a much lower level of gameplay, because you are not used to each other, have no chance to communicate properly and the classes/builds etc is random.
And in my eyes what you are asking for is Exactly what the “normal” sPvP is there for.
Tournaments should not Need to be team only, but dont complain when you go up against teams please, because where would the teams go if not to tournaments?
Dont like the higher level of competition then go sPvP.Oh and yes, the rewards is not as good no. But what do you expect when the competition is higher?
I don’t care for the rewards, and normal Spvp even if it was made 5v5 would still not be the same, it doesn’t match you up with people of the same skill level like an ELO ranking system would.
And free tournament’s are essentially as you say “a lower level of pvp” especially if people are allowed to continue pugging it.
Premades and pugs should NEVER be matched together, especially in competitive games.
All this does is gate a big portion of players from higher levels of pvp, all that does is hurt esports. There’s no good reason not to have a solo queue option.
Oh also, since I can’t edit.
If the TTK raises a bit overall it would also be nice if downed state was a little weaker, maybe 20% or so less downed health just so it’s slightly easier to finish people off with just dmg as opposed to only with stomps.
Would have the side effect of making the “let em bleed out” strategy not as strong and obnoxious. And would also let casuals feel less irritated by downed state. Whenever I play hotjoin I almost never stomp anymore, it’s just tedious and if the person isn’t on a point I just let them rot or sit back and slowly pew pew them to death.
And I can’t imagine how frustrating it must be to be forced to sit there for like 20-30 seconds before dying.
My necro wont go near the water as my pet will despwn and when i get up to the the surface and on to land i get a CD on the skill…
That’s only because they’re not slotted, unless you’re talking about Flesh Golem.
Necro underwater just bloooows though. =p

Those are the exact problems I have with the pvp so far.
The classes that use (and pretty much require) for burst, out side of backstab cheese need quickness because they’re just too simple. Quick + Auto, Quick + Strongest Attack, with maybe some cc thrown in, and that’s it. Compared to what a Mesmer/Ele have to do to achieve their spike/burst.
And the burst/bunkering definately needs toning down, it’s basically 2 completely opposite extremes atm and they both need to be taken down to a similar “range”. I actually thought with the dodging and action parts of the game it would actually be, as you said, a dance back and forth til someone wins.
To the above poster : it’s not that burst shouldn’t kill people, obviously that’s what burst is about, it’s that burst is just too mindless atm. Also, not being able to die to 2 people but also not killing them, that’s part of the issue, if 2 people are on you, you should die eventually if you don’t get help, and if they’re glass cannon you should be able to have a chance to kill them as well, you’d do less dmg than a cannon but you’re going to live much longer. Again it’s just too far in 2 opposite extremes.
(edited by Knote.2904)
I’m really, REALLY happy to hear about underwater balance. My necro won’t go near the water. However, I still wouldn’t play the map even w/sharks removed, IMO the map is just too small and the land portion of the map is like one small tug-of-war style of area. On top of that Spvp is 8v8.
But that’s just my opinion/feedback.
If that’s the case Jon then you should DEFINATELY consider swapping Dark Path with Spectral Grasp lol.
I do like the sound of it, if it can come to fruition. One thing I actually do like about this style of caster is they usually are : Tanky, Immobile and usually only move about through teleportation, they let the enemy come to them or force them to, they use DoT and Debuffs and use Debuffs to cripple the enemy offensive.
First of all, there is the issue with us actually being easy to escape from, then the fact that Weakness which is really the only defensive debuff is crap compared to Protection. Weakness should probably just be made into a flat 25% dmg reduction or give us a unique condition that we can use in our defense.
Having 2 health bars doesn’t even come close compared to having alot of ways to completely avoid dmg in the first place. There’s a reason Thieves and Mesmers can EASILY get away with going full blown glass cannon. Hell, the only reason Ele bunkers work is because they can easily go for 3 Cantrips anytime they get in a sticky situation.
A good example is WvW, if a thief/mesmer/ele/necro get jumped by 5-10 people who do you think can make it out alive? The thief that instantly teleports 1200 range away and stealths, the mesmer that distortions/blinks and stealths, the ele that just pops every cooldown to avoid all dmg and teleports, or the Necro who pops Death Shroud and dies in 5 seconds? =p
And for us, the only reason Necro bunker works is because Well of Blood with +healing is basically 10 seconds of near god-mode and the occasional god-mode Plague Form. Which is another thing : we’re so cooldown based. Our dmg is also cooldown based (Wells/Life Blasting, then have to get more LF).
