I agree there have been many good suggestions and I try to stay positive but it really is getting a bit ridiculous how we get no responses or anything.
Same here. I was feeling better and better about my necro. I keep telling myself changes will come eventually. Been patient.
But just reading that patch, reading all the changes for each class, getting excited. Then.
Bam a couple tiny changes for necro.
I almost cried. =[
We have a ton of bugs. We still have a clunky class mechanic. We don’t have many good traits or good build/trait variety, or that many fun traits. We usually only have about 3 builds for the most part.
I’m mainly dissapointed because I’ve been waiting for them to spruce the class up so it’s more fun. Fixing bugs is just the cherry on top, we haven’t even gotten much of that.
It’s just, dissapointing. We’re playable, and effective, but still.
Judging by yet another let down patch. It’s not going to change any time soon unfortunately.
I’m still in shock that we have the LEAST changes this patch.
Holy crap…
Can you just throw us something Anet? Buff underwater skills, buff staff auto dmg a little bit. Just a few small things???
Ugh.
To add to this. =p
Necro Greatsword -
Since this game has no problem with caster/scholar classes equipping melee weapons and meleeing, and since it feels like Necro’s are lacking another weapon (especially 2 hander), I think greatsword would make a great fit. I think of Shadow Knight or Dread Knight (EQ Necro/Warrior combo) when I think of Necro with a Greatsword, it could be a decent hybrid between tankiness through lifesteals (an aoe life steal) and dmg, it could be the opposite of a Guardian with Greatsword.
Also since Necro’s lack a Legendary that actually fits atleast with greatsword they could have Twilight.
You’ll be very happy with thieves. Besides how well they work in PvP once you get your mechanics down, in PvE/WvW they are fantastic and the acrobatic playstyle is alot of fun.
To me, coming from nearly ever MMO out there starting with EQ/DAoC.
Endgame to me just means the higher level you get the more difficult/challenging the game gets, and the more epic the game gets. You start out in rags, killing pigs, finally get all the way to max level with your new shiny gear/weapons and go and take on a dragon.
Having something to do constantly in game isn’t necessarily endgame IMO. But having alot of things available for you to do or keep you interested are great and a huge part of why I love MMO’s.
But yeah, it’s just technicalities. It just so happens that leveling your character tapers off but increasing gear levels don’t in some MMO’s.

In WOW, you don’t have to even see the enemy, only important thing is the health bar.
Many wow players (and I’m including myself there) literally didn’t see their enemies, with custom visual interfaces covering up all the middle of their screen. It’s a bit silly, indeed.
Instead we have particle spam to do that. Haha. =p
I definately wish Staff was viable as a standalone weapon like Thieves’ Shortbow.
They’re both pretty much the same, mandatory as a utility weapon, except Shortbow is incredible, the auto attack dmg is fantastic and bounces, clusterbomb spam is fantastic dmg, and still brings great utility.
Staff auto is just, wimpy. It needs to be alot better. I really wish I could use it in a power build and actually be deadly by auto attacking stuff. Either that or give it a slight boost in dmg or attack speed and add a chunk of direct dmg to Mark of Blood for more consistent direct dmg.
Why are you trying to balance an AoE weapon for 1v1?
Thief Shortbow is an aoe weapon. And is amazing in an 1v1.

I would love if they implemented some phantasm style of temporary minions. Just summon them on the fly that focus on a target, and die in like 20 seconds.
Even a new 2hander focused on minions would be boss.
Speaking of WvW and Spvp.
Would anyone else love a fusion of the two?
DAoC style battlegrounds anyone? >=]
TBH they need to move rewards AWAY from tagging in general. It really ruins the experience IMO. I get so focused on trying to do like 10-20% of every single mob’s health even if it’s not exactly beneficial towards beating the event.
Especially when events get more complex, say if one objective is to hold off all the mobs attacking and another is to work on repairing or protecting and npc or turret. Which one is more profitable?
It also makes some weapons/skills/builds mandatory and really hurts some classes more than others (Mesmers). On top of all of that, looting in this game is a pain in the kitten it’s hard to see the super subtle sparklies, and corpses just blend into the terrain and are covered by all the spam.
The rewards should be moved from killing mobs, to just contributing to beating the event, have a chest reward for the events sort of like Warhammer Public Quests, that reward you based on contribution. Make Contribution not competitive so if 50% of the people get gold, the rest get silver no matter what (if that’s how it works atm).
I think doing ANYTHING to affect an enemy mob should be considered tagging, dealing 1 dmg, putting a condition, a non-dmging chill field. They should all tag stuff, then just reduce the loot mobs in events give. I don’t understand why you should have to do a certain % of hp to tag, there’s no reason.
To captilize on that idea. What if you’re race’s nemesis sent packs of enemies to assassinate/hunt you down once in a while? Champions Online anyone? lol
I believe the chests will drop the permanent versions.
Holy hell, this is the kind of kitten I’ve been asking/looking for. Bravo Anet.

I’m assuming what happened was you dropped an ability that pulses constantly which basically stun locks you if you’re in melee range of the Ele when they have Static Aura up.
Happens all the time in pve.
I think Warhammer got pretty close to that idea.
I remember in the Dwarf vs Greenskin PvE area there was a public quest (dynamic event) that was actually a PvE/PvP public quest, hub on each side was for both races and you basically had to compete and push the event chain in your favor. Was pretty neat.
I do think the respawn rates need to scale better. If they even scale at all that is. There are definately some areas where respawn rates are just absolutely insane, and I’m stuck just constantly fighting until I can gtfo out of there lol.
Perhaps you haven’t played the other classes underwater. Necro is a joke underwater lol.
Yeah Spectral Fire could make sense. I would love if they explored more of the Spectral side of necro more.
Confusion could make sense in terms of being a disease essentially.
Yeah I’m really not of fan of the models/skins in GW2. If they’re going to be an abomination they better look menacing. =p
I kind of wish pets could be more along the lines of AoC necro pets, I know lore doesn’t let them have humanoid sort of minions, but having spell caster or maybe some spectral type pets would be awesome. I see all the cool spellcaster-type Orr minions and I’m just extremely jealous lol.
Yeah, necro underwater in general is just a joke. Has to be the worst class underwater in terms of boring skills AND underwhelming skills.
Trident is a joke, pretty much a pure condition dmg weapon that doesn’t do very good condition dmg, can maintain 5-6 bleeds with the auto and the poison requires you to dash into melee range, the whole thing is just a poorly designed mess. Spear is DECENT only because of it’s 2 skill.
They could really swap both weapons’ 5th skill lol.
As for DS, both plague blast and frozen abyss have that obnoxious delay that prevents you from casting anything for like 1-1.5 seconds which is what makes it so bad. If it didn’t have that delay it wouldn’t be as terrible as it is. But it’s pretty much pure utility underwater.
I definately have the say thief. Signet of Malice + Clusterbomb Shotgunning = nearly impossible to kill and just tons of melee aoe dmg. A caltrops, and being able to kite with shortbow on top of that.
It doesn’t get better. Every game starts to feel exactly the same. Not to be a bummer. =p
Only thing I really enjoy or bother to do in Spvp now is play on FoeFire/Khylo with gimmicky long ranged or glass cannon builds just for fun.
Most F2P MMO’s I’ve played have pretty decent gold —> store options. Some even having a way to actually convert just the same. It’s not really new. Allods/Champions Online being 2 examples.
And yeah, I doubt GW2’s lottery chests will be AS bad, still doesn’t change the fact it’d be much more preffered just having them be listed for a flat price like the costumes and stuff they already have on there. =p
The only things I think should be allowed to be RNG are in-game non-cash shop related stuff. It just doesn’t feel good throwing away your money/gold to gamble for cash shop items, ever.
Just coming to put my “cent” in the thread.
I’ve played too many F2P MMO’s with crappy lottery grab bag style of selling stuff. It’s horrible, and it left a bad taste in my mouth.
I would much rather just have the items listed for a static price. The gambling aspect only ticks people off.
Same reason % dmg reduction doesn’t reduce conditions.
Conditions are only affected by condition dmg.
Some MMO’s with an account wide bank would let soulbound items be traded that way. Not sure why GW2 decided not to allow it.
Duelist by far the best.
Warden can come in second but it’s situational.
Duelist is also a 100% projectile x8 finisher. So Duelist + Chaos Field = 8x confusion.
And can maintain about 5-7 stacks of bleeding.
Well I’m sure if they did, they’d be yelled at for not dealing with bots or other problems. =p
I have a question. Are the random skins from the chests exclusive to the chest? And are they account bound, meaning : they can’t be traded/sold?
Speaking of making hotjoin 8v8. I could just imagine LoL making normal queue games 8v8 for the same reason (it won’t make casuals feel bad) or something like that.
8v8 Summoner’s Rift. Good or Bad Idk lol.
I would say it’s because they made an FPS out of an MMORPG.
There are really few skills/builds that it can get boring pretty fast if you’re into strategy or building a char. With my necro especially I get bored pvping with him, condition build or some well build that’s either glass cannon aoe burst or bunker. Yawn. =p
And I’m just talking about normal, casual, hotjoin pvp, not any tournament stuff where builds are even more limited.
I never got into the pro-scene in GW1, I played casually in random arena’s, Jade Quarry, Fort Aspenwood, etc. I could play for hours just making SO many fun, gimmicky, or even effective builds. It was just a blast. You don’t find that here. Then of course, I had the carrot of having new skills to unlock to make even MORE builds to keep my playing as well. There’s no carrot here, no ladder, etc, gear skins aren’t nearly enough, I found one I’m happy with and the rest aren’t worth going for, especially since it’s dyed Red or Blue anyway.

Phantasms just need to have their survivability/uptime versus dmg ratio adjusted. The fact that I can grab 20% phant hp trait, on top of 50% phant hp signet, with the bit of vitality on Zerker amulet, my phantasms can take ALOT of dmg, and if someone is stupid enough to waste their time trying to kill it, I can just sit there and dps them, and if they don’t kill em, the phantasms just sit there hitting for 3500-6000 dmg a hit.
And this is on top of the low cooldowns with traits as well. I’ve been doing these cheese mesmer builds since beta. A phantasm build is definately the most broken. A glass cannon phantasm needs to reflect the same survivability if it’s going to reflect the same dmg output.
As for some of the things said above I think what I would do, is make it so the phantasms have a distinct sound and a small beam that ties the phantasm to it’s target and either make it so the phantasm is invisible to anyone else but its target, or make it so it takes 90% less dmg from everyone other than its target and make them alot squishier (assuming they’re glass cannon).
(edited by Knote.2904)
I heard they’re still working/thinking on changing this.
But in the mean time what you could do is try playing in windowed mode and squashing your screen down vertically til you reach an FoV that’s more comfortable. Only downside is you’re also squashing your UI.
If the black lion chest skins actually have a decent drop rate I don’t think I’ll be upset about it. If it’s just way too low or on top of that is account bound so you can’t even buy/sell from other players, then I’m sure alot of people will be very frustrated.
I’ve played too many F2P mmo’s with these crappy lottery grab bags, and when it’s the ONLY way to acquire said items it really sucks. I would much rather just have a flat price for the kitten things in the store.
Guess what? Servers aren;t free to run, and developers and support staff don’t work for free.
Of course ANet want you to buy gems. But nothing that requires gems gives a stat boost over not having it and gems can be purchased with gold too so this is one of the mildest cash shops I have ever seen.
I don’t understand how this goes past everyone’s head. It’s not about costing gems, it’s about spending gems for a CHANCE at the items, as opposed to just buying the items for a flat gem price in the store like everything else. Once you’ve wasted enough gems that would buy 2 of the weapons and still didn’t get anything you’d be PO’d.

Tha CoE Azura Boss before last is not that hard !
all you have to do is watch for the start of the animation and dodge at the appropriate time, I mean come on you learned about a similar tactic in Ascalon Catacombs Explore mode fighting Lieutenant Kohler. It just so happens that this Azura Boss is a bit less forgiving at least in AC if you missed a dodge you might still live.
You obviously didn’t read a single thing I said. I never said it was hard. It was beyond easy, and boring, and still manages to be annoying with one shot mechanics.
I could half afk and still beat that fight with a pug.

Some of the NPC’s are kind of overpowered compared to it’s player counter-part. Look at the dmg the Necromancer does compared to the actual profession lol.
I’m assuming the main spell you’re talking about is Eruption. In beta it used to have almost twice the radius it has now to make up for the massive delay, and it was really good then. Now it’s pretty much useless IMO just because it’s so tiny on top of the delay.
Plaque lmao. Conditionmancer be given yall gingivitis.
Q: What is a "bunker"? Is it only certain classes and builds, or is it an Engineer item?
in PvP

A build focused on staying alive, lots of healing, dmg reduction, cooldowns to avoid burst, good condition scrubbing, and usually some passive dmg like high uptime on Retaliation or some Condition Dmg.
Oh and usually some good CC to keep people off points.
I just did CoE story for the first time today.
Never. Again. It was such a drawn out, boring, unchallenging, piece of garbage I’ve ever wasted my time on.
That odd random mob that has a billion hp and ends up taking literally 15-20 minutes to kill, while it randomly one shots people, you have no idea how to avoid said one shot ability because you can’t see ANYTHING, you just drop. So you spend 15-20 minutes slowly beating on this mob while you just sit there rezzing anyone that drops, over and over.
Then the room that spawns like 30 golems/mobs that just completely annihilates everyone because it’s impossible to deal enough dmg to kill everything before more stuff just spawns. We basically kited everything in a giant circle for 30-40 minutes while we slowly killed off each mob.
Final boss, kill dude in his golem suit as he does nothing to challenge you, random lightning fields, I eventually just stood there auto attacking at ranged and sort of AFK’d, while we slowly killed it.
Finally kill the golem suit, actual boss pops out, teleports all over the place constantly again doing nothing to challenge you and again takes forever to kill, then near the end he starts doing his one shot mechanics, quickittentle charged shot that’s IMPOSSIBLE to see coming, again just run around rez anyone that get’s randomly shot, and dodge the aoe lightning volley thing (another one shot mechanic).
Finally kill him, now comes the giant cyclops thing, doesn’t do anything challenging, sit back at ranged and auto, I never came too close to the undead finger things. He has some one shot mechanic if you get too close to him, and near the end starts spawning random ice aoe’s that ALSO one shot. Stay back, ranged/auto/spam, avoid ice aoe, spend another 10 minutes to slowly kill it.
Not only is it a slow boring tank and spank essentially, you have no interesting rotations or abilities to keep you interested, for some classes your best dmg is just auto attacking. As a necro all I did was auto with staff, spam marks on cooldown, then sit in Death Shroud spamming Life Blasts for the most part.
On top of that the only reward was at the end with a nice amount of xp and a hat. The chests are just a joke.
In the end it feels like you waste your money on repairs to essentially waste your time doing something that’s god awfully boring. Dungeons need some serious help. They’re not actually CHALLENGING, nothing makes you think. You just zerg mobs down, spamming dmg at em, kite stuff around, then just rez people that get downed by cheesey one shot mechanics or crap you just can’t see coming/avoid.
You would think with the action elements of the game there would be more fights that function similar to Dragon Nest or Monster Hunter style fights. Where dodging actually matters, where you can actually see attacks coming, and they weren’t all just one shot mechanics either.
I partially blame Downed State for alot of this, it’s basically and excuse to have one shot mechanics and just non-stop streams of high dmg flying at you. People just getting killed constantly? Well it’s balanced because you can just run over and pick them up, over and over and over and over and over. It’s not fun, I don’t want to spend fights being the downed state 50% of the time. I’d rather have a balanced, fight where I’m actually on my feet for most of the fight not being dropped constantly.
Anyway, there’s my rant, Dungeons just suck atm. =/
It only procs on direct dmg hits, not condition tics.
Dmg does not scale with your Power, the dmg is different against different targets though, so either it scales with the Attacker’s Power or is just a flat amount and is reduced by Toughness.
[Warrior]18k HB on Chief. Possibly the highest raw HB that can be achieved. Can anyone go higher?

Well in a-net’s eyes it’s a very well balanced ability that can 1shot ppl.
As for PW hitting for 6k omg OP got nefed to the point that auto attack hits harder…Keep posting stuff like this, don’t worrie warriors will never get nerfed and we all know why…
PW can be spammed 3-4 times in a row, stuns, and gives evasion.
Well you can do a hybrid build where you are actually tanky by constantly stealthing. Scrubbing conditions each time you stealth as well as healing, then relying on might stacking to keep dmg up. Works quite well.
The idea of a node being instantly grey as soon as it’s “contested” is interesting.
The first point is the only one I’ll comment on.
I still never understood why they made it so you can essentially lock out your skill if you interupt it, I don’t really like it.
Removing mana/resource system is fine as long as they make up for the complexity. Unfortunately I don’t quite think they did.
If combo’s were alot shorter than they are atm, and there was more of a “combo” system tied between each weapon skill I think it could be alot more interesting.
I would say not being in a guild is a big mistake. Playing this game solo is EXTREMELY boring. The game really doesn’t do very well at encouraging social behavior through it’s “public quests” just because of how simple/quick/easy they are. So you won’t have those moments of meeting someone new through some really tough encounter where you had awesome teamwork together.
I would just highly suggest getting into a guild and try to get involved in WvW or Dungeons to give you something else to do.
As for your last paragraph, I think Legendaries are the only thing that match that description.
