Some “experts” on various fan site forums were saying “GW2 is B2P – free to play – you will never get free content updates”. I’m very glad that all those experts look stupid now. And halloween is only a “small” patch compared to what is coming November 15.
Welcome to GW2

I just hope they will implement guesting ASAP so they can get rid of the free transfers completely. But it’s indeed a welcome improvement.

Actually people are annoyed when they see bots. They become frustrated when the SAME bots they reported 1 week ago are still there. You nailed it perfectly at the end of your post, Krimpton – I still try to report all those I see, but I often wonder why I even care since nothing is done.

If thieves are nerfed and warriors buffed, I’m quitting MMOs forever. The frequent smuggler nerfs were a big reason why I left SWTOR, and the MoP talent trees were crap so I quit WoW.
Also, wouldn’t be too happy if they buffed the legendary requirements, like needing 250 clovers now instead or reduced the chance to get a precursor even further.
So you can’t take it when your class is no longer overpowered but balanced with other classes?
Not saying Warriors are ok (actually, they have a problem with only very few builds being viable in PvP), but thieves are clearly OP and need some adjustments.

@Death yeah, Frostgorge is one of the worse place when it comes to bots. It’s actually so disgusting that I rarely go there anymore, even though I like the zone way more than the Orr areas.

PvP tab go to heart of the mists take portal to Lion’s Arch – that makes one leg of going to the bank/merchant/changing zones free
I don’t like Lion’s Arch. It looks cool. But it has a poor layout for crafting/bank/tp, and the map chat there reminds me why I hate so many MMORPG players – it’s intellectually insulting.
So I don’t usually want to be in LA, and the number of loading screens involved (even with SSD and fast internet) is punishment for going the mists/LA way.
I have plenty of gold so travel costs are no biggie to me but I can see how it would suck for people who don’t have as much time to play, who suck at accumulating gold, or who aren’t as good at playing and die way more than they should.
I agree here – I actually wish each character gets a “racial town recall” of some sort. Not only it would spread out the population and make the racial towns seem alive, but it would also provide an alternative to Lion’s Arch.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
I’ve noticed Colin answered about the bot problem, which is very nice from him, but still no official word about those player names and even worse, that KKK guild name. Such a guild name should not even be tolerated in an adult rated game, even less in a “teen” rated one.

“let’s be practical and honest;
the event the tower was epic fail in relation to models of different characters, skills and pre-start event”
Let’s be honest… you didn’t try that event hard, did you? Skills don’t matter at all for the clock tower, everything is disabled.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
Agreed with Cernow, the colors are crushed to the extremes. As result, the mid range colors lose resolution, and the extremes equally, since dark grays become back and light grays become white. At the end, you have truncated extreme colors (dark or bright ones) and a major loss of resolution at the mid ranges.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
I’m sorry for your friend, Sky, but they can’t make everything reachable for disabled people either, or the whole game would feel completely dull to everyone else. And as you acknowledged, that specific achievement is not needed to complete everything else in the event. I suppose your friend also has problems in other jumping puzzles… best you can do is actually help him do them, by visiting him at his home and getting his character through them together with a good drink and some good laughs when YOU screw up too ;-)
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
snip, too long to fully quote, read the original
I’m gonna give it one last chance…
The clock tower has a few characteristics:
- It’s harder than your average jumping puzzles. This is good for those who breezed through the other puzzles.
- It’s in no way mandatory to complete the full Halloween event, or even the “Emissary of the Mad King” achievement. At no point you are stuck with “must do the clock” to be able to fully enjoy the rest of the content.
For info, I’ve started working with 3D graphics on an Amiga something like 25+ years ago, and I my work in part consists in programming real time 3D effects for video and movies. I’ve seen no 3D problem in this puzzle, and I play a Norn.
So yes, I disagree with the people asking for this or that part of content to be nerfed or changed just because they didn’t manage to do it. And I repeat, I’m in the same camp for now, didn’t do it yet, and I possibly won’t manage to do it. I still don’t go out of my way and ask ANet to nerf it – because fact is many people did it, some even repeated it several times, so it CAN be done.

So you can honestly say that screenshot 1 looks better then screenshot 2 ?
You do not notice the blurry grey layer on screenshot 1 ?Yes I can. I like screenshot 1 way more than the 2. The 2 has over-saturated colors, the sky just looks like something you’d see in an episode of “My Little Pony”, not in an heroic fantasy MMORPG.
You obviously have a thing for blurry grey layers, well all fine by me! I do know what looks good though, blurry grey layers aren’t one of them.
No, my friend, you have an OPINION. And specially when it comes to something as subjective as graphic art, it remains an opinion, nothing more. You know nothing more than I do concerning what looks good. We just have a different take on it, but you definitely don’t know better than me.
So no, sorry to burst your bubble, but you do NOT “know what looks good” for anyone else but yourself. And definitely not for me.
Are you realizing how much of an hypocrite you are right now ? I’m guessing…not.Btw..I never said Anything as a fact,i think it’s just obvious that a sharper more colourfull, darker image looks better then an image with high gamma, low amount of colours and a grey blurry layer on top of it.
Back on topic again for people that do have taste !
I’m definitely not an hypocrite, and it’s sad you had to resort to insults now too. Pretty much shows your tolerance for other people’s opinions though.
I’ve always said “I prefer the non-tweaked version”, I never pretended everyone should agree with me, I only gave my opinion. Unlike you, who tries to force your opinion of what looks good onto me and others – and you do it again in your last posts, with your little “for people that do have taste” remark.
But I understand you can’t accept that some people aren’t overly impressed with your new toy, so I will leave it at that. Keep in mind though that there are many people out there who are fully satisfied with the way ANet made their game look, whether you accept that or not doesn’t matter, it’s a hard fact.
Have fun with your colors – I never said you should stop using them even if they don’t match my personal taste ;-)

Oh and another thing…
Don’t forget that in other MMORPGs, you not only pay to use taxi-like transports, but you also waste time staring at a screen for several minutes (can be VERY long for long travels) without being able to play. At least in GW2 you don’t have that.I have never played a game with that type of feature. Are those by any chance those free download games that you see ads for all the time?
Does the name “World of Warcraft” ring a bell? Yeah, the most successful MMORPG of all times for now.
Other games which have such transports are DAoC (must have been the first AAA one I think), LOTRO, SW:TOR, all games in which you jump into a taxi and then have to watch it move/ride/fly to destination.
So no cheap free download games, but major AAA titles.

1) Why’s that, why would they have no idea ?
Because waypoint costs under 80 are a joke compared to what events and hearts give you. So people who are not 80 yet and post “waypoint costs are just fine” don’t have a clue about what they are talking about.
2) Yeah “Game Breaking” was a bit over the top, but it’s definately spoilt my Guild Wars experience, and how good it was going to be to team up and play with human beings.
It needs to be toned down at 80, I agree on that. This said, this travel system still has huge advantages compared to travel systems in other games (see edit in previous post).
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
@Ravenblade – then just don’t do it. As I said, it’s not mandatory. There’s a ton of other content you can enjoy. Fact is, not every single piece of content added to a game as large as a MMORPG has to be tailored to be fun for YOU – there will always be tons of other people who will enjoy it.
All the issues you list (camera orientation, acting partially blind (which is almost military skill requirement) and avoiding invisible collision zones) are only YOU failing, and not the game’s fault. I have guildies who already done it, and none mentioned the problems you list. I’ve made it pretty high in the tower even though I’m not done yet, and I never noticed those problems either.
PEBCAK (Problem Exists Between Chair And Keyboard). Practice more, improve, and you’ll do it… or just do something else, as it’s not a mandatory activity.

(edited by Korrigan.4837)
Two things in my opinion:
1) people who are not 80 yet should NOT complain about waypoint costs, because they have no idea about what they are talking about.
2) costs are a bit high at 80, but definitely not “game breaking”. They should simply remove the default fee, if you teleport to a WP you are standing on it costs 1s50c which is silly, it should cost nothing.
Oh and another thing…

Except for the better antialiasing, all the color modifications and supposed “enhancements” make it way too flashy – like turning Clint Eastwood in some sort of carnival Las Vegas cow boy…Because you’re obviously using the wrong settings, dont say things like that because you give people a false impression. You need to actually Tweak the settings to your likings, wich can take up some time
Of course I can say things like that, because that’s my opinion about this “tweak”. Beside my own experience, I find all the screenshots posted here more or less ugly.
As I said, the only real benefit I see is the “better” antialiasing, and even that causes compatibility problems with other programs like Steam or voice chat overlays.
If ANet wanted GW2 to look like a hippie on drugs game, they’d have made it that way. I prefer the original look. To each his own though

What a surprise, whining about something “too hard” for some people.
First, let me tell you I haven’t managed to complete the tower yet. I’m still trying, in short sessions. I find it challenging and interesting, games NEED stuff you don’t complete on the first try.
Second… it’s not mandatory at all to complete. Not even for the “Emissary of the Mad King” achievement. You do NOT need it.
The latest MMORPG player generations seem to think everything in game must be able to be completed by them without breaking a sweat. I say ANet, do NOT cater to those spoiled players – keep on adding stuff some will not be able to complete easily. Something to look forward to.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
This actually makes me wish I’d have made my Norn warrior bigger. Annoying rude people who blame and insult others for their choice of character race is kinda “poetic justice”.
This should be harshly punished in game by the GMs. I for one will make sure I will report any verbal abuse I witness in the clock tower event.

I mean, for goodness sake, I can die standing on a waypoint and it will cost me around 1.5s at a minimum to teleport to the waypoint I AM STANDING ON.
As I said in my previous post, this is pretty much the source of the “problem”. Remove that initial cost. Teleporting to the waypoint I’m standing on should cost NOTHING. Then keep the actual increase with distance. Prices would then be “fair”.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
The DR captcha is already a better idea, but it still annoys me… imagine you, aka a legit player, is actually fighting a pack of mobs, or a harder mob, and that captcha appears… you can’t dodge anymore, you die.
Personally, I’ve never botted in any MMORPG, and I’ve played most of them since UO 17+ years ago. I don’t want to be punished because of bots.
bots tend to have those idle moments after events where they sit in town
So do legit players. I often stay AFK in Lion’s Arch for like 10 minutes while I get some food or go to the toilets. I wouldn’t want some guy pass by, drop a bomb on me, and make be get booted/banned.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
It will possibly affect the bots, but it will mostly be used by griefers to annoy legit players. You hated the duel spam in other games? You gonna really hate the “bot bomb” spam in GW2…
Very, very bad idea.

When you are “dead” in WvsW (aka not downed, but defeated, with a banner rammed through your corpse or health reduced to zero), you should simple have the map open without the ability to see the surroundings, aka without being able to close the map. You are then forced to select a waypoint to rez, and you can’t spy on others.
EDIT: just saw that Auesis made the same proposition two posts higher. This gets my vote too.

Funny cos last i checked i posted before you had even entered the thread.
Check again. I made the second post (aka first answer) in this thread, way before you posted your first insulting post towards those who don’t want raids.
And yes, I don’t want raids, not because I’m “selfish” as you say, but because in every game they are added to, they become the mandatory end game activity. Want the best gear? You better raid. And that’s what the op asksfor, I quote him here:
" I’m not saying this gear should be so powerful that you feel obligated to grind out these 30 man dungeons but it should be powerful enough to encourage doing these dungeons over and over for these rare drops while having worth while drops, even if you don’t get that rare drop."
Sorry, but I will never agree with this. As I said, there are enough games out there for people who “enjoy” the never ending raid gear grind model. Leave GW2 alone.

Insults will get you nowhere but in trouble.
This said, I’m no WoW hater, played the game since day one of US release in Nov. 2004, which means I have at least one active WoW account since almost 8 years. I still don’t want to see raids in GW2, because it’s a slippery slope I don’t want this game to head to. That kind of content just doesn’t fit the philosophy of this game.
So you think because WoW has a feature then thats a valid arguement to dimiss it in GW2? Maybe Im just sick of the pretend cool kids hating on wow for no other reason that cos its wow.
Maybe you may want to read my full post and see I’m not a WoW hater. But I guess insulting people is more fun – and you call others “cool kids”? The irony is thick, don’t you think?
We got WoW and a dozen of similar clones since 2004, I’m sick of that, I don’t want this game to slowly become another WoW clone. This way, I can play BOTH games because they are different, specially considering GW2 doesn’t have a sub fee. I have one good AAA game which doesn’t have a raid end game – and I will voice my opinion so that it remains that way.

The norn animal forms are not “bad” per se, the problem is the HUGE cooldowns on them, which makes them completely useless on the field.
Reduce the CD (at least 50% of actual duration), and the skills will be used in game.
But I’m sure ANet are monitoring this and see that almost nobody uses those animal forms.

No. No raids ever, please. Not in this game.

I’m at 100% map completion so it’s definitely possible.

I think there’s a problem with the minimal costs of teleporting.
At 80, teleporting to a waypoint I’m literally standing on already costs 1s39c. No kidding. Remove that initial cost (teleporting to a waypoint you are standing on should cost nothing), and the general price would be fine and solely based on the distance from your actual position.
I don’t mind paying 3, 4 or even 5s if I travel to the other side of the world. But if you remain in the same general area, the cost should definitely be much lower.

Well, I must admit I’ve seen quite a lot lately, and in most level ranges too. For instance on my server, the “grawl valley” in Frostgorge Sound is “bot heaven”, but today I’ve noticed a clear reduction of the amount of them along with the disappearing of the names of those I’ve been reporting for like a week now (gibberish crap bot names on ranger characters).
I think the worst for the honest player is to report bots and to think it’s useless. Honestly, two bots in that “grawl valley” I’ve been reporting for at least a week, and every new morning they were still there. It’s really disgusting. Today they were gone, I hope it’s the sign of a more active anti-bot action policy from ANet.

It’s definitely not a feature, and I doubt you can link any official developer post saying it’s a feature. There’s something you most likely misunderstood.
And despite fighting massive zergs from both opposite servers, in 7 hours of WvWvW (we started at 7pm and ended 2am), I didn’t have the invisible zerg problem once.
A PvX guild for mature players with a life.
…
WvW was the next big disappointment for me. In addition to imbalances due to player populations the invisible army patch was ridiculous. BTW this didn’t exist when the game came out, I have screenshots of me sitting on top of EH Keep looking down at a fight at Bluelake seeing the whole enemy force outside and the whole friendly force. There was a patch about 1 and a half weeks in that actually added the invisible armies for people with good computers. Granted it the idea was to help people with bad computers but it was a clear choice to screw people who had quality gaming machines to try and pander to people with Bestbuy HP or Dell garbage(that or it was a short sighted patch that’s effects were not thought about). This isn’t how you make quality pvp battles this is how you alienate people who spend money on games.I totally agree with this. The invisibility patch have destroyed WvW for me. One second you are just running along some buddies and then BLAM! you’re in the middle of the enemy zerg and you couldn’t even see them coming.
This was fixed in Friday’s patch. We did a big WvWvW event with my guild Sunday evening, and we didn’t have any invisibility bug even with massive amounts of enemies.
