Instanced "dressing room"

I forgot about Including the makeover kit options, which would be a great thing to have as well.

On the surface, the concept as a whole seems as though it shouldn’t be all that difficult a thing to add to the game, at least for the armor/weapons and dyes since it’s kinda just emulating a player with all those things unlocked and turning off cost for trans charges.

If a game has a nickname of Fashion Wars 2, it might as well embrace it all the way.

I suppose this has been suggested before, and I see there is/was a phone app of some sort that predated the wardrobe system, but I think we need something entirely in-game.

I’d really like to have an instanced area where you have all of the wardrobe items AND all of the dyes unlocked while you’re able to see your character in the field.

In other words, a place where I can see the character in action, with weapons out, doing moves, checking for clipping, checking for color matching issues, in a “live” environment with areas with different lighting scales.

It’s very difficult to get a good sense of this sort of thing in that little panel we have to use now as it only reveals a bit of this stuff. We only get to see how four dyes look together and only as splashed across an entire channel, not the way most players would probably apply them.

Armor and dyes are expensive and/or time-sucking propositions in many cases, only to find they don’t work out as well as you thought they would from the results in the static, generic preview option available currently.

I reported a couple yesterday that I found in Brisbane Wildlands. Tagged them as friends and watched them rapidly pop from there to Caledon Forest, then Queensdale, etc. It’s been a while since I’ve noticed this brand of vermin. Hope it doesn’t become a common occurrence again like it was before.

I said when they BLATANTLY make you try to buy it. That’s when it gets annoying is when it’s shoved on you.

There’s nothing blatant going on. It’s your perspective that’s the issue. A L35 wall is easy to overcome within several hours, less if you’re really trying, and less still with a companion. This is a very feeble effort to “BLATANTLY make you try to buy” anything if that’s ANet’s nefarious plan.

And if they swarmed that’s easy banning for Anet seeing as how they are rly active around festival time.

So, what you’re saying is you believe that things should be set up so that all players in Lion’s Arch during this festival should put up with additional RMT annoyances* so that a few people who can’t manage to get to L35 on a free account in time can attend? Is that about right?

*(Banning RMT vermin isn’t instantaneous—it requires a lot of players being bothered, then having to report them, then waiting on the devs to process reports and ultimately act on them. All the while more and more RMT slime are oozing in through the open door you advocate.)

Salvage kits' "chance of rarer materials"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kruhljak.2705

Kruhljak.2705

Here is something else I’ve noticed but unsure if it’s true. I’ve seen a lower salvage rate from items that can be created by crafting Vs those that can’t and are simply dropped. GW2BLTC notes which items can be crafted when you mouse over items.

I haven’t collected much data from salvaging crafted items, but I can say with certainty that crafted item yields use different yield tables (for lack of a better term).

For one, they tend to yield mats that are one level group (i.e. the block of item level ranges that would produce a mat one tier below as it’s “common” yield) below that of other items of the same level. For example, where dropped L50 light armor would guarantee linen, crafted L50 armor will yield cotton (though they may yield linen sometimes as a +1 “rarer” mat, I just haven’t salvaged enough to have that happen, if it can). At L80 this may not be the case, and I haven’t done much of any salvaging of L80 crafted armor to find out. IIRC, weapons were a mixed bag of sometimes lower tier as compared to dropped, and sometimes not, depending on item level.

For another, some weapons that are crafted entirely of wood can yield metal ore. For instance, low level wooden bows will yield copper ore instead of green wood. This may not be consistent (again, limited data on my side) as item levels rise, but I have many examples of this in the past. It’s possible this has been corrected more recently, though. It’s also possible the quirk with armor has been changed recently as I haven’t salvaged any crafted armor for a long while.

The rules for crafted items vis a vis salvaging are clearly separate from those applied to dropped items. It would be interesting to investigate it just for kicks, but I’m not up for it these days.

Salvage kits' "chance of rarer materials"

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Kruhljak.2705

I don’t see on colbymg’s site that they’ve explained how they determined the ‘actual’ rates. Earlier research has shown that “chance of higher material” depends on the target item’s rarity and level. My own data on salvaging ‘salvage items’ shows a wide variance, such that I’m not sure that 1000 or even 2000 salvages is enough to be sure about the drop rates.

In particular, there seems to be a big difference between the rate differential from T3->T4 compare to T5->T6

I can verify this on my side, as well.

The way I handle the discrepancy is by ignoring the stated number and simply noting that the cost per kit generally suggests that it’s not worth bothering. Unless one kit gives 50% more of the next tier, the extra cost outweighs the value.

For the most part, I’ve found crude kits/copper-fed generally work as well as anything up to Mystic/Master’s in terms of end profits when salvaging blues/greens. The variance is, indeed, too small in the long run to worry about.

tl;dr my rule of thumb is progressively more expensive kits do drop progressively more Tx+1 mats, but not enough to make it worth the cost. I use Copper-Fed/Basic because it’s convenient for everything except rare 68+ gear and ecto itself.

Yep, pretty much my plan, as well. In the long run, it seems reasonable to ignore a kit’s claim about rarer materials since it doesn’t relate very well to any typical salvaging routine a player’s going to experience.

I still wonder under what circumstances will a kit’s stated numbers re rare materials actually bear out? If ever. Could be the underlying salvaging process has gone through enough revisions that these numbers are literally fantasy by this point.

That would work like Magic Find. Seems reasonable.

It’s possible depending on the actual underlying base numbers, but if so, the descriptive text is misleading as the rates for rarer mats and upgrades is expressed identically, and upgrade retrieval rates are provably accurate as flat rates.

Even this could be sussed out over time with a mix of kits and enough samples, but I haven’t got the stamina to do it myself.

Salvage kits' "chance of rarer materials"

Kruhljak.2705

Every salvage kit states that it has an “X% chance for rarer materials.” However, does anyone know what this suspicious claim actually means?

I used to think this applied to items that could yield a +1 mat from standard salvaging (for example Hardened Leather over Thick for L80 medium armor). But…

My recent ~4k salvagings using Mystic kits on L80 blue/green medium armors attests otherwise. That result was 9.25% chance to yield Hardened Leather over Thick, which just so happens to be pretty close to my earlier testing using Basic kits which came in at 8.25% over ~3.5k results. This smells like any kit may have the same, or similar, chance to get a +1 tier mat. My sample sizes are large enough to reveal the gulf between the 25% claim (if it even applies here) and actual results, if not showing total accuracy. I also broke results up into 500 unit batches (before combining them for a final number) to ensure there were no oddities. No batches exceeded 11.5% chance.

In addition, a small sample of about 120 exos salvaged over a several month span using Black Lion Kits which claim a 50% chance for rarer materials only produced 18% T6 mats from strictly L80 exotics. Higher than Mystic/Master’s, but nowhere near 50%. It’s unlikely a massive sample would make up such a huge difference. Especially as the presence of a large gap between the claimed chance and my actual numbers remains regardless of the kit.

So, in my experience, it seems safe to say the chance for rarer materials does not apply (or is not correctly applied) to simple salvaging of gear that has a chance to yield a +1 tier mat.

So what does that leave? Ectos and dark matter.

Well, that might be something if not for the fact that you will not see a 25% chance of ectos salvaging rares using a Mystic/Master’s kit. Rather, you’ll see something closer to 60%. Using Black Lion kits on exotics also doesn’t convey a 50% chance to get 1+ ectos or dark matter, but rather something closer to 75% for ectos (i.e. 3 of 4 salvagings will yield 1 or more ectos) and ~50-55% for dark matter. It’s obvious the kit quality affects this, but it is nowhere near in line with the kit’s claim for rarer materials unless, perhaps, you confine it dark matter, but then again, the kit % claims far pre-date the advent of dark matter, so that can’t be done, anyway.

So, I reiterate: WTF does “X% chance of rarer materials” MEAN? It doesn’t appear to apply to ANYTHING.

Is this the parasitic twin of the problem kits had with upgrades where the stated chances were completely unrelated to reality? That was eventually fixed, though it took years to get to it.

Anything I end up having to kill comes from the mass of karka that spawn inside the camp, so the only way I’d get non-event karka on a repeated basis would be that some of the karka that spawn at the event’s beginning aren’t considered relevant to the event. If so, it’s quite a screwy design decision.

I suppose I can torch a few extra karka along the way in the future and see if it makes any consistent difference.

The event title says to “burn out the karka nests” not “yolo a 1v75 vs elite and vet karkas then burn out the nests” so I’m confused as to why credit is not awarded for fulfilling the stated completion criteria.

I bought (gold and tickets) the entire Plasma set, cuz I thought some were neat enough to use and I got a 7 ticket rebate for the entire lot once added to my wardrobe. Most opinions I’ve heard are that they’re meh at best. So, to each their own. The benefit of having gear that is visually unpopular is that they’re also unusual in the field, and isn’t Fashion Wars predicated on being “special”? Can’t be special if everyone and their brother is rockin’ the same thing you are. Silver lining, and all that. Maybe this set will be like that, too.

Anyone have any ideas as to why I have a depleted ancient sapling node in Frostgorge Sound (the one a bit NW of Slough of Despond) that has not been logged for ages by any of my characters, including a few that were brought there for the first time (i.e. they got discovery XP along the way)?

The node isn’t a phantom, as a horde of other players have happily logged it in the five minutes I stood around looking up wiki info to see if there was a reason. As far as I know, there is no limit to the number of ancient logs you can harvest in a day (as there is for, say, blooming passiflora), so I don’t get it.

Oh, I should note, this is not an ongoing thing (I hope). I just visited here today after a long time, so it could be fine by tomorrow. It’s just weird, and it should have been live for all of my characters unless there is actually some internal limit to the number of ancient saplings an account can harvest, as I did harvest a lot from other nodes on other servers earlier in the day, but none from this particular node.

A similar situation was brought up in another thread a couple weeks ago, and the conclusion that people seemed to come to there was hanging out afk for geodes is an exploit. Admittedly no dev stepped in to say something either way….

I don’t yet see the difference between that previous thread’s version of afk exploitation and what’s been brought up in this thread other than the lewt…. o.O

~EW

edit: and personally I’d love to know if that means it’s not an exploit if I afk while waiting for Pristine Spore Samples to respawn… please, oh please let that be the case….

I was the OP of the thread you referenced above.

Because I kept seeing these people hanging out there in the Flatlands scaling up all the events, I decided to ask support about it, and this is the response (along with my question):

(question)
Mar 31, 08:34

Wondering if all those rangers that are always standing around in Dry Top in the Flatland Wastes are considered exploiting the AFK system? Many of them are there literally 100% of the time I’m there, just standing there with their pets. I know from testing for myself that doing this will garner free geodes while functionally AFK. This sort of thing also scales up the nearby events than run through there (especially the Race, which often fails because there are more AFKers standing around than active players bothering to try), which is detrimental to all active players in the area.

I’ve recently been reporting a few of them as botters, since it’s clear they’re using some method to avoid AFK kicking as they’re there for hours at a time pretty much every single day. But, I’m asking this now to get an official stance on whether this behavior is actually botting and/or exploiting as per ANet’s definition, and whether I should bother reporting those I repeatedly see there for long periods of time without moving / acting, or just ignore it.

Thanks.

Suggestion: alternative key for the glider [Merged]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Kruhljak.2705

Kruhljak.2705

I posted about this right after the patch, then figured out it was because I tend to hold the spacebar down for perhaps a half-second or a second after a spacebar jump. I kinda brushed it off and figured ok, I can adjust. However, I continue to find this to be a pain to manage since the auto-deploy happens so quickly.

This issue is that the deploying occurs almost immediately after a jump over open air. Even while actively trying to avoid holding the spacebar down after a jump I find it still opens too often, and since I can’t instantly un-deploy it after it happens (there’s a small delay before you can do that), I often can’t avoid flying right past my target.

So, yes, whether other people have gotten used to a different way of jumping and having the glider auto-deploy isn’t a problem it IS a problem that many people do and will probably in the future continue to have due to the very slim margin required to avoid it.

A toggle to disable gliding manually in cases where a player knows they don’t want the glider to deploy no matter what is a win for many, and a non-issue for everyone else.

Wow…it was me. Apparently, I’ve gotten used to holding down the spacebar for a little bit after a jump without even realizing it. I’m not actually hitting it twice, once to jump and once to deploy, so it is auto-deploying a short while after the jump if I hold down the spacebar for a second or so after. With that in mind, I can still fall to my death the way I used to. Yay!

JaFW: That’s atypical. With all the sets that have been released, it’s hard to recall, but I don’t remember any other sets staying at 1 ticket past a new set being released, regardless of reception. The recent Dwayna and Improvised sets weren’t winners, either, and judging by the current values of skins on the TP, Plasma skins are outvaluing both despite being up for 1 ticket for several more weeks than either of those were, implying they’re more popular than those.

It’s all speculation; ANet’s not going to reveal their reasons. Just figured there might be some insight to be had. Not a big deal.

Plasma set, added Nov 17, still 1 ticket per item
Merciless set, added Dec 1, now 2 tickets per item
Timekeeper set, added Dec 15(?), 1 ticket as per usual until a new set comes along

Even the older returning Wintersday sets: Winter’s Weapons and Wintersday Weapons are 2 tickets a pop. Aside: You’d think ANet would toss in some Xmas joy and rerelease these at 1 ticket during the festival….

This boggles my head. And yes, full disclosure: I did buy some extra Plasma skins for future profit (it’s standard procedure for me and many others). It’s not “fixed” on the server side. I’m still unable to load characters into HotM and LA on one account. My other account couldn’t load into Plains of Ashford or directly into a pvp arena yesterday, but can today.

Repairing main account now. Either way…oy, what a mess.

Edit: Happy to say that after using the -repair commandline option everything looks good (so far). Loading maps properly now.

Revenant Underwater Bugged/Inconsistant

It’s not gamebreaking but it’s pretty annoying. As one of the apparently few people that’s actually playing a Rev from L1, I went through most of Queensdale and the initial personal story step, neither of which have any/much water content to deal with.

By L15 I had some Dwarf and some Ventari skills and when I went into the water to get the HP in Godslost, I noticed I had neither heal nor any utility skills because NONE of the Dwarf/Ventari skills are usable underwater. With no more points to spend, I’m basically forced to do all water content with only weapons skills until I can get enough points to get another stance unlocked, and then get the heal skill, which will leave me with empty utility slots because I need even more points to get those filled.

Not gamebreaking, but not very well planned out for actual progression. Heal/Utility skills, in general, have always been an issue since many can’t be used underwater, and it seems the only reason is aesthetics, not functionality. Necros have a so-called elite minion skill that can’t be used for underwater content while all other “lesser” minion skills can. Why? Because the devs apparently decided it was too much bother to make a proper underwater animation for it. Yeah. I don’t think that’s a very good excuse, either.

Messy. I can log in to Plains of Ashford with one account and not the other. The one that can, can get into HotM, but can’t get into an arena. The other one can’t get into HotM at all.

ANet crowed about how smooth the launch of HoT was in their latest info update—maybe this is the universe balancing things out again.

And the elitists show their shortsightedness. Those you label as casuals make up the majority of all multiplayer game populations, thus they push the most cash into the system you’re benefitting from. Watch them leave, and you’ll eventually be shoved out the door in their wake when the company behind the game slams it shut due to insufficient funding coming from the much smaller hardcore crowd.
