Try this:

Delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..

~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:

http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models

You can also try holding alt while clicking "GO " in the finder menu bar unhide the correct Library folder, continue holding alt and click on Library (if you release the alt/option key, “library” will disappear. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.

Well, that’s a bummer

I’m really not sure what to try here since I only use standard keyboard input… And a Mac. I could enter ñ into the chat panel and it showed up, but I’m not sure why certain ones don’t work. I won’t have the opportunity to play for a couple days, but when I do, I’ll see what characters I can get away with and post if I find anything useful.

Sorry friend!

Please post what your CPU is and how much ram you have. Also, please note your CPU and GPU temps after running the game 1~15 minutes and post those here.

Have you considered trying the newest drivers, 320.49?

Either way, make sure your nvidia software has 3d settings and such set to application controlled.

We can try deleting your local.dat file located under my documents/guild wars 2.

I don’t know why your computer would go into standby, you should look into your power management/energy saving/screen saver settings and make sure they aren’t wonky.

Please post your complete system specs as well.

I’d recommend updating to the latest nvidia drivers (320.49), but they may or may not help until nvidia stops breaking the drivers lol. It might though! Don’t use 320.18, however, they are no good!

You ay want to try repairing your client. Create a new gw2 shortcut (rename it to avoid confusion), right click on this new shortcut and go to properties. At the end of the TARGET path listed (…gw2.exe") add this " -repair" (everything between the quotes, including the space, but NOT THE QUOTES…. Space dash R E P A I R). Your target will look like this at the end: …gw2.exe" -repair

Then click ok to save. Then run this shortcut.

Post back if anything hels or not, but be certain to include your complete system specs if you still need help.

Web Filter potentially not letting me log in?

Kyllaa.1385

Have you tried temporarily disabling this web filter and then logging in?

Is this your home/personal/private Internet connection?

You could also run msconfig, disable all startup programs, then restart your comp. load gw2 and try logging in. If it works, then run msconfig, enable only one program at a time, then restart comp. Test gw2. Do this until it doesnt work again, there seems to be a conflict in the last program enabled. If this doesn’t work, then you can re-enable all startup programs again, then restart.

I must say, hylek poisons are the worst… Half the time you think “okay, that should be gone by now,” it’s not! They last for ages without removal.

Just keep an eye on your duration and if you see a duration of 1day or something, then it’s an issue.

However, I think there is somewhere in the game you get a “permanent” condition designed to last for an extended time, but that should go away after you complete the objective associated. (I can’t remember exactly, I may even be making it up lol, but I really thought I remember that from somewhere… Personal story, event, something, etc)

The thing about expecting a fix, if you notice most threads, is typically issues are fixed by user means. Yes, some stuff ges fixed by Anet, but the majority of issues (tech related) are fixed with drivers or repairs or just as simple as reloading a small file. These kinds of things are typically on the user end, so finding a general fix for all computers is daunting at best.

Not to mention, windows machines go wonky if you so much as sneeze while downloading (exaggeration), so they are going to have minor issues and require constant upkeep to ensure things continue to run smoothly. Plus, many run antivirus/firewall programs (obviously a must today), and without even knowing it, sometimes these and other random apps prevent some files from being modified randomly also causing the occassional issue.

So I imagine, until Anet finds what works and what doesn’t, we just need to continue to do our part and understand that things will go wrong (despite being utterly frustrating). Besides, this game is a baby compared to some others, it needs time to grow and mature.

[woot, an overly positive post lol, just trying to keep perspective]

You can’t really compare gw2 to any other games fairly, it does use more resources than most, it’s a bit of a hog.

Also, gw2 doesn’t always play nice with overclocked CPUs, you may want to consider disabling that and testing it. But if you are overheating (especially with an overclock), you’re just risking damage to your hardware.

Just because you don’t want to hear it, doesn’t mean that your CPU isn’t the problem… Either overheating or bottle necking, you might get the results you want with an upgrade.

When you get home, definitely run those temp tests and post individual numbers for each component.

As far as I can tell, those 2 drivers are your only viable options. Some have said that 314 give them the least amount of troubles, you should decide which driver causes you less crashes.

You may want to consider running a repair on your gw2 client (be certain to run as admin).

Nvidia put out some bad drivers recently (version 320.18 I think), make sure you aren’t running these.

Try running gw2 with " -diag" appended instead of -repair. It should generate a file for you to post. (make certain you’re always running it as administrator)

Also, can you please post your arenanet.log and/or any crash logs in the folder my documents/guild wars 2.

You may want to do some extensive virus scanning and look into scanning for a rootkit. I believe right clicking on a drive and going to properties will allow you to access a scan to check the drive for errors.

I can’t say anything for certain, but nvidia put out some bad drivers recently that caused some video cards to overheat and have odd graphical glitches.

If you are still experiencing this, take note of your CPU and GPU temps after playing gw2 for about 15 min and post those temps.

I believe they have released some new beta drivers you may want to try.

Yep! It’s a depth blur bug on the timberline falls map. If you disable depth blur, it will go away.

I reported this in game just the other day, but I’ve been noticing it for a couple months now, just kept forgetting to report it while playing with hubs.

I haven’t been able o correct the issue by any means other than restarting or, most importantly, disabling the depth blur. It isn’t always present either, sometimes it just starts randomly after having been on the map for awhile.

I can’t recall any specific event that triggers it, it just seems to happen. The other day though, I noticed it after dying and using a waypoint to rez near sector zuhl. (but it’s happened all over the map, not just that location)

Edit: good catch again Abomally, I’m beginning to fail on my late night posts. Here I was thinking he had a couple more degrees, but 3C is significant enough to cause spikes like that. Guess that makes part of my post slightly irrelevant.

Wasn’t planning on dawdling after confirming that they were while playing, mr pushy.

My next thought for lag would have been to look at your CPU processing data to 2 GPUs simultaneously, it’s true that it coud be a bottleneck for your setup.

Another possibility for lag is server population and prime time Internet use. I’ve noticed in the past with gw2 that it is sensitive to high server population causing lag spikes and even input lag. (there is this odd trend that when new content is released, more people login and play) And if you monitor a traceroute from home to server, sometimes high population locations/nodes along your route could create your lag/latency, despite your awesomely fast connection. A combination of these 2 would be even worse for obvious reasons.

However, if this didn’t happen on your old system, it would seem more likely to be your processor bottleneck.

Either way, you could try testing out these options on your router/modem, use the ports listed under error code 7. I personally use QoS rather than port forwarding and it works fine, but you choose what works for you if you even want to test this option. Hardware enabled firewalls can sometimes cause issues too:

I actually got better speeds/ping over a 4g modem through Verizon than dsl through verizon in my area. I was raiding and using vent and it was better than my dsl in Australia even. I think it gets better speeds/ping/latency than my current cable connection too.

You can buy an individual Internet plan, but you save more bundling it with your phone service I think.

Hopefully things smooth out for everyone soon… And the Mac peeps don’t get lost in the dark again.
