Just a thought for anyone who didn’t get a chest. If you happen to logout without opening the chest, supposedly that chest is auto-opened on the character that completed it. But then you won’t get the notification or anything, it just happens.
Bah, I forgot about that video card, I think it only uses shader model 2.0. Someone else had that chipset and they couldn’t run the game either, a dev may have even chimed in to confirm that. Sorry friend
Logitech mouse. I don’t own a magic mouse or any other for that matter, but the problem still occurs while using the touch pad (forgot to mention that bit above, I tried moving around the touchpad to test if it was just dead mouse/mouse input issue). But I have not tested multi-touch gestures as I typically only use those to get to my widgets to check temps and such, I’m old fashioned there.
I sometimes use control when running around so I don’t miss any wooden boxes or when I need to see nodes/items of import on screen, but I wasn’t when this newest occurrence happened most recently, nor do I use control during battle (which is when I most typically lose my mouse cursor and drop ground targetted spells in completely random locations lol… Like on a wall). I do use the Fn key to use the f1-f12 keys, but this happened on my necro, out of combat, in LA.
The only key combinations I use other than standard game play mechanics is command+tab.
My guess is it seems to lose input functionality or even, as you said, mouse focus at times (hence some of the minor movement issues I’ve posted about elsewhere and sticky keys), considering sometimes, the mouse cursor is still visible, but isn’t moving and then takes a couple seconds to respond again.
It’s not the worst thing in the world, but it’s made me consider investing in a new mouse, despite the fact that it only “malfunctions” in gw2 lol. That’s partially why I bring up issues here, to see if it’s only me or not. But since I’ve found that some peeps get it on pc too, I’ve put off that decision for a bit still. It’s relatively minor compared to other things and even more so considering how few report it on the forums, so I doubt it will ever be looked into.
(I figure I didn’t use the word considering enough, so I’m using it again lololol)
It sort of does that, I think I can still use ground targetting, but I haven’t tried it on the ui or clicking anything because I just have no clue where it is. But like I said, it just popped back into visual after I spam clicked my mouse buttons, so I don’t know what is going on.
Here is a note from the wiki:
Bug: Projected patterns may be missing or incorrect; ie. matching a pattern might have no effect, but it is still possible to complete the puzzle by guessing the correct pattern.
-The left pattern (when facing the door) must be done before the right pattern.
-The puzzle might be partially complete: check for lit torches before proceeding. Zero or two lit: start with left pattern. One or three: start with right.
-When matching patterns do not light a torch, there are several reported potential fixes:
-Approach the torch that should be lit. This may light it. Circling the room clockwise will put you near each torch in sequence if you can’t see them.
-Removing all tears and then replacing the pattern may trigger a match.
-Filling all panels with tears and then removing tears to recreate the pattern may trigger a match.
-The displayed pattern may be wrong. Guessing the correct pattern will trigger a match.
[end quote]
We actually ended up completing the right pattern first, or someone may have completed the left pattern and the right one might have been wrong… I have to say, I wasn’t paying attention to any torches, but after trying a few patterns, I heard a noise and the gate finally opened.

Typically dye issues aren’t a high priority… Or they could be waiting to push it with another patch.
Normally, I’d agree with you Yumiko, but the coral issue I mentioned never cleared up and still occurs for my friend and her hubs. I spent over 10 minutes helping her on the vista, we even goofed off and took screenshots to post on fb to each other for a laugh, and hers never appeared, but mine were never missing (on a low population day). Her and her hubs have higher level machines than I do.
So typically, yeah it’s probably a bottleneck, but sometimes, it’s just a graphics processing bug that never goes away. My missing floor issue cleared up after a min or 2.
Yeah, that happens from time to time. (I just tell my character that she’s being a drama queen ;p)
Sometimes, you just have to re-orient the stones in known configurations to get the “lock” to open.
When I did this the other day, the left pattern on the face was incorrect, we checked the wiki and started going through the patterns and it finally unlocked. It’s noted on the wiki that this jp sometimes bugs like that.
Using a 2nd post to mention a new issue occurring for me… And of course wondering if anyone else has had this.
Since one of the last couple updates, my cursor completely disappears on my screen while in-game. It used to come back after a couple seconds, but yesterday, it stayed “missing” for over 2 minutes. I tabbed out and back in several times, it was present and working outside of the game, but was still missing when I tabbed back in. It did reappear after I started using the left click randomly.
The odd concern for me was that I couldn’t even submit a bug report because I had no cursor to click anything lol.
So anyway, has anyone else observed this behaviour lately as well?
(oops, I think I just technically derailed my own thread)
I feel your pain MrSens, but usually the issue clears up for me immediately outside the game, but immediately continues the second I’m back in (especially if I tab out/back). If you are having problems outside the game as well, you may want to start checking your computer for issues… Check mouse related settings, make sure you’re not overheating, does it still skip/jump when using the touchpad.
To make sure you’re not overheating, use istat to check your GPU and CPU temps while your system is running idle (no apps open), then check them after the game has been running gw2 for 10-20 minutes (or immediately after your skipping/jumping starts). Please post those here.
Lol, I agree, that’s why I perma unhide my files <.< two library folders confused the kitty out of me ;p
What is “the game administrator”?
You may want to consider making an external backup of the gw2.dat file located under my documents/guild wars 2, it’s about ~17gb in size and it contains the games mass of data. Next time you lose this and the game starts downloading, close the client, copy and paste this file back into the same folder (overwriting the newer file), then reload the client. You would only then need to download any updated files and misc.
If you can’t get a resolution, view the sticky about submitting a ticket in this forum and do so, then post your fix here in case it could help others.
Hey Foxx, I just recently updated my instructions to incorporate a variation of yours… Apparently, those weren’t the ones posted here. Most don’t have issues following mine, but on occasion, I guess they do.
Good on you Foxx! I wasn’t going to say anything in response to the “canned replies” comment, considering I was as nice as I could be when I was hesitant to upload a file from the game that could possibly break the eula, not to mention, push my bandwidth limit. But hey, I guess if us trying to help him was unappreciated, he could rely on tech support or google solely for his help next time. But even still, it’s not always canned responses we provide, we just give those for issues that seem like the common problems seen here daily that are easily fixed by those. And we are a little more creative when the problem is fairly unique, but I never want to risk a possible ban.
As mercury said, this is typically a full mailbox issue, delete a few in game mails and you’ll most likely receive them soon.
It seems Orr has random issues with terrain disappearing. I had just come out of the arah dungeon once and the whole floor was missing. Another time, a friend of mine had the coral steps (they look like shelf mushrooms) disappear while trying to complete a vista, I had to do the vista with her and stand on the jump locations as a marker so she knew where to jump without falling. She later told me here husband had the exact same issue on his comp. But that coral never disappeared on me luckily.
We are all on macs.
Atheria, I don’t think anyone blamed an os, I was just trying to let the support peeps know that this is an issue for all users and could occur at anytime.
I also don’t think anyone has an answer for fixing this, however, you could try to delete your local.dat file under my documents/guild wars 2 and see if it helps with yours… At least a temporary fix.
There is some issue somewhere in the game that causes mouse issues for many, they come and go, but also persist for some.
As I stated before, I haven’t had this specific problem as often ately, but os I’m starting to get different issues with the mouse, so I’m not sure if this has been due to recent optimisations of the game, but it seems to be manifesting differently in Mac and windows.
Yeah, your system obviously shouldn’t have any issues, and the report showed a few things, but not specifics for everything. The reason I mentioned “try running with less stuff open” was because your memory usage was high. Oh, and wow and aion have been out much longer and aren’t nearly as resource intensive as gw2, so it’s almost unfair to compare them.
Some of the errors mentioned “missing” stuff, but some errors seemed to be access/read errors, misnamed stuff, etc. That’s why I recommended a you verify your drive integrity and checking for conflicting programs and antivirus/firewall, as they can block access and such.
Please post back if you start having the issue again and after testing some of the suggestions above. Or even, post back if there was anything you did between posting your first post and playing that night.
You may need to change the dns addresses your computer uses then. I forgot some users need to do this. There were several threads on this forum explaining how to do this. Something in your network settings.
Louiziana, make sure you are navigating to the correct folder, there are 2 application support folders on Mac, but one is hidden. This hidden folder is the one you want!
Please re-read step 4 that I have posted above and try it.
Support says to wait 10-20minutes for the alternate downloader to kick in, but a few have claimed it could take a lot longer. You could also try changing the language to French or German in the top right corner of the launcher, once the download ompleted, just change it back. (none have had luck with Spanish)
Try running the downloaded file as an administrator maybe? Make sure you are logged onto an admin account. You could also try disabling UAC. Temporarily disable any antivirus and firewall software and test it out.
If none of that helps, please post your system specs. Maybe someone else has more thoughts too.
Make sure catalyst is running 3d graphics and such as application controlled.
Also, you’ll want to make sure that your CPU and/or GPU aren’t overheating. You’ll need a temp monitoring software for this, there are a couple free ones you could download. Please test your temps (both components) after your pc has been idle for about 10-15 minutes, then post your temps after running gw2 for 10-15 minutes.
You can try to delete the local.dat file under my documents/guild wars 2 and see if it helps.
You’re fairly limited by your processor and ram, considering they are near bare minimum. More ram and/or a 64 bit operating system couldn’t hurt.
Just a couple thoughts, I’m sure others could think of much better suggestions or possible solutions for you.
P.s. you should consider renaming your topic to something a little more descriptive of your problem.
I don’t know if this will help at all, nor do I know much about your system (it seems at a glance that it should be more than okay, but we don’t have specifics). For future, when having crashes, always list your complete system specs. But I’ll post a few bits anyway.
I see you’ve done a repair already, but it is always possible to be a hard drive issue, run a diagnostic on it.
2nd, you should definitely try running with much less going on, Skype, steam, and chrome are wicked on system resources, combined with gw2 (also a major resource hog), you’re asking for problems.
Make sure that you’re running gw2 as administrator.
Double check that all of your drivers are completely up to date, and windows too, including optional updates (just good practice).
You may want to temporarily disable any antivirus and firewall software. Also you can try running msconfig, disable all startup programs, then restart your comp. Test gw2. If the crashing stops, re-enable one program at a time, restart, test gw2 until you crash again… Then the last program enabled might be conflicting with the game.
If myself or anyone else is not able to help you, I highly recommend you check out the submit a ticket sticky and do so. Then post what fix actually did work for you.
If you filed a ticket though the online support page, just wait to get help. If you are only referring to the post crash report that sends immediately following a crash, then either view the sticky about submitting a ticket and do so, or post your system specs and your crash log file here and hopefully someone can try to help you.
Keep in mind, prior to gw2 loading, it runs a self check. Not sure if this only occurs after installation or every time.
I think a too small page file could also cause crashes, but as you mentioned, nitro, without crash logs, we know absolutely nothing about what is going on. I believe that’s why I asked if he was still experiencing crashes.
Kronzeh, post your complete system specs and your gw2 crash log.
Awesome, glad to help
Nexxis, I believe you can right click on the icon, then choose properties. Somewhere in there, I believe there is a tick box to enable the application to always run as admin.
Someone else was getting this issue, but I don’t think we found a fix to it. I can post the basic Mac troubleshooting/basic fix steps, but there is no guarantee any of it will work. You may need a support ticket regardless to figure out why it is continuously updating the client version. So, I’ll post, try them if you like, but it may not help. (I doubt you’ll need step 5)
Also, make certain you are running the client and any troubleshooting steps as an administrator (on an administrator account).
This long, but read each step completely before continuing:
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
You can also try holding alt while clicking "GO " in the finder menu bar unhide the correct Library folder, but that was never successful for me in the past. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Please submit a ticket to support if you cannot get this issue to resolve, then post your fix from them back here to help others who are also experiencing this problem. See the sticky at the top of the Mac forum about submitting a ticket.
True Foxx, the anomaly I mentioned is when it transfers that colour profile to your desktop/other programs or gets dodgy when returning to gw2… So yeah, nothing to worry about unless you continue to only experience washed out colours in game.
It depends on what is causing the issue, but tp loading (or lack there of) is a common tp problem, even on windows. Typically a restart fixes this. However, I’ll post an in-game test to see if it fixes it, then I’ll post the usual fix for a broken tp on Mac. Try the in-game one first and read all instructions thoroughly before attempting the 2nd one if needed.
In-game:
1. Open your trading post (leave this open until finished)
2. Open your options panel
3. Change the language to French
4. Wait for the trading post to reload in French
5. Change the language back to English (anglais)
6. Test trading post
This usually initiates a gamma bug on Mac, to fix this, leave your options panel open after switching ack to your default language, go to the graphics panel and move the gamma slider slightly, then put it back on your preferred setting.
If that doesn’t fix your tp on the spot, close gw2 and try this:
delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.

Please post back what worked and please confirm if you receive the gamma bug. If you have any further issues, please let us know.
I posted on your other thread.
This is an anomaly that occurs with gw2 sometimes (it seems to create an overlay). Instead of swiping, try using command+tab and see if it still occurs.
I have had my graphics get all dull and lacklustre at one point, but I was playing with settings in the config file… The only fix for me was to delete the contents of the hidden gw2 folder and restart the client… But I only had that one time. (it looked like when you go to the area in Brisbane wildlands near that special tree that becomes a vendor while the nightmare court need to be driven out)
I always keep my hidden files shown (had a few programs keep downloadable content stored in hidden folders so I couldn’t access it and need it for certain web files/design).
So odd I have that then lol. I wonder why o.O
Lol, that’s what I get for trying to remember the location without being in front of my computer ;p
[yourusername]/Documents/Guild Wars 2
Sorry for being a bonehead, if I’m going to ask a question, I should make certain of the location…. Fail!
Have you filed a ticket? You really should take a look at the tech support forum at the sticking about submitting a ticket and follow those instructions. Then once the support team figures out what’s wrong, you can post your fix back here for others who may have the same issue.
Nexxis, what troubleshooting steps have you tried thus far & when did the issue start for you?
What kind of crashes were you getting (error codes or crash messages in your log)?
Have you tested out deleting the local.dat file under my documents/guild wars 2?
Also, if you could post your crash log, it might help.
Oops, I seem to have lost tabs on this thread, sorry guys. I’ll post the full troubleshooting steps here for you, then at the end, I’m going to run something by Foxx for thoughts.
It’s long, but please read each step completely prior to attempting (#4 will be a repeat):

Foxx, do you think deleting the local.dat file in the regular application support folder (obviously not our hidden gw2 folder one) could help issues like these for Mac? I haven’t really had any issues to test it myself. Just curious to hear your thoughts.
There was a recent issue on the tech forums that none of the standard fixes for this known inconvenience weren’t working. I spent almost 2 days helping different people until Sorcerak posted on the forum I linked.
So, they may just be experiencing the typical bug or they may have to do this to get it working again.
Lol, I would definitely try it, just in case
Good luck!
You should definitely provide any crash reports available. Otherwise, everyone is just stabbing in the dark trying to figure out what’s going on.
Lol blizzard does suffer from that too at times, I’ve had it happen. And steam is an odd duck that uses a ton of system resources while sitting in your system tray, even while seemingly doing nothing, who knows what it is doing.
But if this is a new download of your client, it has nothing to fall back on if it was in an odd bit while writing the data.
But honestly, if you’ve never had an issue from a power outage, count yourself lucky! If this is your first data loss ever, I’d say you’re still ahead of the curve.
And yes, I forgot to mention the bit Veeber mentioned about the data bar, but that was why I recommended checking the gw2.dat file.
I’ve seen a few complaints about this. If you’ve run the repair, you can try uninstalling and reinstalling the newest drivers for your vid card. And maybe try deleting your local.dat file (located under my documents/guild wars 2).
Hopefully that helps, but if not, I’m crossing fingers that some brilliant person could pop in and help you.
Anytime a computer powers down improperly (especially windows machines), there is a likelyhood of file corruption or data loss. That is rule # 1 of owning a pc, shut down properly and in the event of inclement weather, shut down just in case.
I understand that some residential areas around the world have unreliable power, but when you live there, you just understand that data loss is a great possibility. It’s really not anet’s fault.
To prevent issues like this in the future, you could always pickup an uninterruptible power supply battery backup unit. If the power goes out, it can give you the couple minutes to quickly shut down properly. Usually a great idea if you live in an area with unreliable power.
