It’s not broken! You just have to be patient and come back in a few days. You’ll get your 100%, you’ll probably even come back just for the jp.
This wasn’t the first and it most certainly won’t be the last new poi added.
They just added a new poi that isn’t accessible until 1 July.
Try this: (read all the way down almost)
You can check how large your gw2.dat file is by looking under my documents/guild wars 2. The file should be around ~17.5 gb in total once complete. At least this way, you can see how far you are in respect to being complete.
I know it’s hard to predict a power outage, but if there is any possibility of one, you should close your client manually prior to, if possible, and shutdown your comp. save the download when the weather is more steady. If the game closes without a proper exit while downloading, it’s very likely you will lose that data file and it may have to start from scratch again.
For future, you can store a backup of the .dat file on an external drive incase you ever need to reinstall the client again.
You should definitely post the crash report whenever you want to understand why your client is crashing and looking for a fix. Follow up with complete system specs also.
What type of Internet are you on?
Well, that’s different. Glad they found the issue
Empty your in-game mail box.
Yes, my hawk does, but my eagle does not, nor my owl.
I tested it immediately after it started and I have screen shots from a couple weeks ago. Tested it again after the 1.11 build.
If you are on a “public” (as opposed to private, personally registered) Internet connection, yes, you most likely will have tp issues and possibly game connection problems. Lol, I almost always ask peeps if they are on a public or private network and typically that is ignored or I receive a sarcastic “it’s mine” response… The one time I didn’t, is the one time it might have mattered. Typical ;p
Gw2 only needs 4 ports with full access, unfortunately, port 80, is a common one you don’t want unfiltered. But perhaps, you might want o contact your admins and ask them about it… Unless it’s uni, then no dice most likely.
Ashley has stated that she will pass it along, it is considered a known bug on Mac and, of course, no eta on a fix. Someday our laser hawks will devolve back to normal hawks.
Wow guys, I take a break for half a day to play and I come back to this! ;p
(and yes, it will be long, as usual)
But honestly, I understand both sides of this debate, that is partially why I made it an odd/personal goal to try and get some attention back to our little corner of the forum.
I’m in my own column of “gw2 patron.” I played gw1 on a windows bootcamp partition after my windows machine kicked it; I then wanted to upgrade my old 13 mb (not even pro) just so I could upgrade to gw2. I did and even purchased my first copy of windows in AGES just so I could kitten (lol past tense of the brown word) all over my beautiful MBP with it using bootcamp. Then I saw OMG… COLLECTOR’s EDITION!!!! Yep, I sent money to the US, paying an annoying amount of currency fees, just to beg a family member to pre-buy it for me at the midnight pre-buy launch… Lame, I know! I was overseas and really wanted it ;p to finish the long story… OMG Mac client! It’s beta, but with plans for a final release! I can get my Mac friends from wow to play with me now and I won’t have to omit the functionality of my Mac by the inconvenience of having to use windows.
I convinced about 8 people to buy gw2 after that. Luckily, they haven’t had but minor issues.
I came here due to an issue I had and couldn’t get help at all. Some nice player helped me thankfully and helped me figure out what was wrong. But during that time, I noticed… There has been no official post in months and someone posted a response from Anet support stating that the Mac forums are no longer being supported, but after 5 months, there were peeps who needed help and no one even caring. And this response posted wasn’t even official, it was another player who opened a ticket and got it, he was just thoughtful enough to post it for others.
So yeah, communication would have been nice. And honestly, I think that’s all anyone really wants at this point. Most of our issues can be fixed with reasonably easy solutions, unless it gets broke during an update lol, and the client itself works reasonably well too.
I’m with Trog on this, any response… Even a simple “sorry guys, this is really all you’re going to get” would suffice. Disappointing, but better than sitting here twiddling our thumbs guessing.
I’m really am grateful for Ashley’s taking the time to check in on us. I really feel like she has taken sympathy with our plight. She even followed up with me on the tech support forum for an issue I posted over a month ago that has finally been fixed (at least I haven’t broken it yet again lol). No one else posted on that thread, just me and a single pc user who said they couldn’t trigger the crash, but she brought it to the attention of the right people and it has been fixed. Thank you again Ashley
Only a squeaky wheel gets greased. So, Aigisthos, if you’re going to squeak, make sure it’s only one wheel lol. Let’s keep our “we want attention” to one or two threads so we don’t annoy the only support staff willing to give us the time of (any) day.
As for them moving it… I don’t know, that’s really not cool. It should have been left. Meh.
Okay… Done. O.o
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Doomed, sorry to hear you’re still having an issue with your mouse. I have issues with mine, but rarely the crazy mouse anymore.
I would recommend deleting the contents of the guild wars 2 folder in application support (just make sure you go to the right folder or you won’t get this one in particular) first, prior to testing any changes to the config file. If after you load the client and that doesn’t help, then definitely test the settings that Foxx recommended.
Getting a fresh download on that folder fixes many issues with gw2. You should create a backup of it first by copying and pasting the folder to your desktop, just in case.
The location should look like this:
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
If thse don’t work, you could try repairing by following these instructions:
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
Post back to let us know how you go.
Glad to be of service
Not really sure what’s going on there, but you can try to delete the local.dat file from my documents/guild wars 2, then reload the client.
You could also try to repair the client if that doesn’t work. Create a new shortcut for gw2, right click on this shortcut and go to properties, in the path for this shortcut, add everything between the quotes here (including the space), not including the quotation marks though to the very end of the path " -repair". After you add the space dash R E P A I R, save it and run this shortcut.
Post back how you go.
Make sure your modem/router has its firewall disabled (as temporary anyway) also when you make an attempt next time, sometimes those are enabled by default. Considering we’ve undergone several billing maintenances in the last week or so, it’s possible something has changed that now conflicts with gw2. And if you suspect computer antivirus or firewall software, try to temporarily disable those completely as well.
That is usually one of the first troubleshooting steps for broken tp issues.
But either way, let us know how you go, and if you just can’t fix it, file a support ticket and post back here any help they give you that fixes this problem.
I’m not exactly sure if this is against the EULA, but I know I don’t want to take a chance at being banned.
You may want to file a ticket explaining the situation and everything you have attempted to fix this, there might be something specific they could do to fix the issue for you.
Lol, I imagine German works too ;p
Sorry nothing seems to work for you, but if you’re working with support, then that means they are aware of the issue and maybe a fix will be coming soon.
We had a broken gem store on the Mac client recently (started with dragon bash after maintenance), but after working with support, they got a fix to us too.
Please let us know if anything does work, but if nothing does, I’m sure support is trying to find out what happened.
Nope, this happens to most, especially in LA. This is a common issue for the tp. However… I do have something you can try so you don’t lose your place in the queue, however, this will most likely instigate a gamma bug. So just keep your options panel open and move the gamma slider slightly and put it back to your preferred value.
1. Open your trading post (leave this open until finished)
2. Open your options panel
3. Change the language to French
4. Wait for the trading post to reload in French
5. Change the language back to English (anglais)
6. Test trading post
Please post back if that helped or not next time it happens to you.
I changed the vid mem on that one (app contents), but haven’t noticed any changes or any new issues, I only did that about 2 weeks ago to test it out. So, I’m still up in the air as to whether that does anything or not… Guess we’ll have to play with some of the more overt features to see.
Try Trog’s suggestion, if french gives you an issue, try German… If no luck, wait it out. The devs stated after about 10-20 minutes an alternate downloader should kick in allowing the file to complete. Once your update does complete, make sure you are set back to your default language.
There are reports that waiting could take up to overnight plus a few more hours still.
I haven’t seen anyone successful with Spanish.
I haven’t made too many mods to my config file, but when I did, the one that caused changes (just after launch of Mac client) was the one in application support. I haven’t really made any attempts to play with the config file located in the package contents.
The thing I am interested in with the config file, is the mouse sensitivity setting, I’m wondering the range of viable values and the differing effects. (I have mouse issues, but only in-game) but I’m more hesitant to mess with it since my Mac client has been so well behaved lately lol.
Have you tried running the repair yet?
You may just need a ticket
I found this post, I don’t know if it could have anything to do with your issue, but windows is odd like this (hence why I went to Mac lol).
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/My-fix-on-sky-pirates-patch
The registry cleaner is what I was looking at here. Might be worth a shot if nothing else works, after that, I say you might be up to a ticket status or a shiny Anet post helping hand.
I’m wondering if the billing maintenance was affecting you this morning (just actually looked at your posting times). But Sorcerak stated for 2 days now. I know the trading post was down to add new items and today is maintenance, but trying most of these “fixes” should have helped.
Is the gem store loading for you at least? (I have just confirmed that mine is working 2 minutes ago)
It would appear that this issue has been resolved on the Mac. I was able to quickly logout from one character and immediately onto another with no crash. I’ll keep tabs again the next time I need to file a bug report in-game.
I cannot test this on the pc though since my tv was hijacked and moved to another room lol. But if it’s not locking my Mac, I can only imagine it will be 10 times better on the pc
Thank you so much for getting this worked on for us!
3 cheers and a hug to you!!!!!!
Flyingfridge, is this still happening for you or have you been able to load in without issue yet?
Ooh, I will have to test this again. I’ll follow up afterwards.
Frenzy, are you running gw2 as admin? Also, temporarily disable any antivirus/firewall software and test it.
What happens when you try changing the language?
Great
Do you have your video control application set to “application controlled”?
Also, when do you tend to receive the crash that you posted above? (I.e. what activities are you performing, location, etc)
Are you sure it’s actually downloading and not verifying your .dat file? Make sure the shortcut you are using doesn’t have " -repair" appended to it. Or any other tags for that matter, unless you specifically added one for a particular function.
Btw, you can actually copy your gw2.dat (~17.5gb) file to a new location, uninstall the game, re-install a fresh client, quit the client once it starts to download, load your old/saved gw2.dat file back overwriting the new gw2.dat fie, ten reload your client. It should verify the file and only download a few misc files plus any new updates, saving you a ton of time and download data.
Most times, a client restart fixes these issues, but maybe we coud fix it without that. Try this please and let me know if it happens to work for you: (use a different language from your native language)
1. Open your trading post (leave the window open)
2. Open your options panel
3. Change the language to French
4. Wait for the trading post to reload in French
5. Change the language back to English (anglais)
6. Test trading post
Please post back if that helped or not.
Try this (waiting it out or a language change):
Keeping this current.
You can actually copy your gw2.dat file to avoid having to re-download the whole thing again. Once you re-install the launcher, quit it, then copy the original .dat file back in (overwriting the new one) and restart the client, it should verify and only need to download some minor stuff including recent updates.
As for the language change, make sure to leave your trading post window open while making the changes, you should be able to watch the data in the trading post load/reload into the new language.
Good luck!
Please try this, it will however clear your saved login info and your in-game graphics settings. Please post back if this works or not:
Delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Okay, if that didn’t help, try steps 1-4 once more, yes, you will be repeating a couple steps again, but I’d rather waste a few minutes for something to work rather than have odd behaviour in my system. If anything helps, please let me know. If not, follow step 6.
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps this will clear your saved login info and in-game settings.

Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
(heads up! I’m going to make 2 long posts)
Sounds like a really odd problem, could I have you try one more thing? Afterwards, I think you need a ticket and cross your fingers you get someone who knows the difference between Mac & pc <.<
Try running your client from a root account. You need to have administrator access to do it, but I’ll post the instructions (I’ll post instrctions for 10.7 and 10.8 since I haven’t a clue what os you have, remember to DISABLE THIS AFTERWARDS) it is not a good thing to leave your account as a root user for security reasons, please disable when finished
10.7:
1. Open Directory Utility
This is located under [yourharddrivename]/System/Library
2. Click the LOCK
3. Enter an Administrator Account Name and Password
4. Click OK
5. Go to the EDIT menu, choose “enable root user”
6. Enter the root password you want to use in both the password and verify boxes
Click OK
10.8:
Support.apple.com/kb/PH11331
Run the client after enabling this, but disable after. Please let me know if this helps, if not follow my next post, then if no results, file a ticket!

Lol okay, I’ll bite and post ;p
I’ll post our basic instructions for deleting the config file, etc. This will reset all of your In-game settings and it will clear your login/password details if you like to keep them saved. Read it completely prior to attempting. And please, make sure te -repair command is removed from your settings as listed above…. I’ll also post one-time only repair instructions if you need it in the future.

Which screen is your “default” screen?
The tp not loading is a common issue. Sometimes deleting the gw2 caches can help. However, you could try this while in game:
1. Open your trading post
2. Open your options panel
3. Change the language to French
4. Wait for the trading post to reload in French
5. Change the language back to English (anglais)
6. Test trading post
Please let me know if this helps at all.
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Silver, could you please post the rest of your system specs?
(I see a little from your report, but not everything)
Kris, I suggested msconfig because it does seem like something is blocking or interfering with gw2. This way, if you disable all startup applications and gw2 starts fine and works without issue, there is definitely a conflict with something.
But feel free to try an uninstall/reinstall.
Pagkon, your issue definitely seems completely different. Perhaps start a new topic/thread and I (and others) could try to help you separately without disrupting Kris’ help. When you start your topic, please post any errors you are receiving, your complete system specs, and describe your symptoms (and any occurrences leading up to your crashes). Then we can try to help you personally also
You may want to consider filing a ticket.
Did you try the msconfig option?
Monsoon, try this: (I know this is off topic, but I wanted him to see it)
