Have you checked your CPU & GPU temps? Test them while your system has been idle for 10-15 minutes, then test them after playing the game 10-15 minutes (before crashing). Post both sets.

Your CPU is running a tad warm, but I forgot to ask for your system specs before to check on that. As a good practice anyway, you shoud definitely open up your system and clean the dust out of your fans and heat sinks and test the temps again. In the meantime, could you post your system details please?

(added: it very well could just be the heat from the CPU, it’s possible after 20 minutes (or an hour or so, depending on your activities and location) the heat finally reaches its upper threshold and is shutting down to prevent damage. Try my suggestion above and run the same test and post results again)

You may want to start with a check up of the internal bits. Verify that each piece is inserted or connected firmly and completely. (vid card, ram, etc) next, double-check the drivers for your vid card, make sure you have the newest drivers, maybe uninstall and re-install them.

I’m sure others will have thoughts too, but try starting with those.

Kyllaa.1385

Typically, this is an overheating issue (GPU and/or CPU are top culprits), however, it’s always possible to be something else. Let’s start with the easy to diagnose/fix issue.

Do you have any temperature monitoring software so you can see what temps your CPU and GPU run at? If not, you may want to download one and test it out. Try it with your system running idle after 10-15 minutes (no applications active or fresh reboot). Ten run gw2 and check the temps after 10-15 minutes of gameplay. Pat temps for both instances on both CPU and GPU.

2. One your options panel
3. Change the language to French
4. Wait for the trading post to reload in French
5. Change the language back to English (anglais)
6. Test trading post

Does lowering your graphics settings increase your performance?

2nd, are you monitoring your system temps (CPU & GPU)? If not, I highly recommend you download an app that can do this and check your temps after your system has sat idle for about 10-15 minutes, then test it again after running the game for 10-15 minutes. Post the before and after values for both CPU and GPU.

(and I kind of agree with tage a bit, performance tends to decrease during high population events, but let’s test things anyway)

Try going to your video cards website and try to install the latest version of the drivers. If I’m not mistaken, your integrated video card uses shader model 2.0 and you need minimum 3.0, but I think I saw that the latest drivers might try to work around that.

Please try and post back after trying gw2 again.

You may want to uninstall and try a fresh install of the latest drivers from the website. Verify direct x is up to date. Make sure all windows updates are installed, even the optional ones. There is also a note in the stickies about going to your nvidia control program and clicking restore (maybe you have another setting conflicting with the gw2 self-check).

If none of that works, create a shortcut for gw2, then go into the properties of the shortcut and where the path location is add " -repair" exactly as it appears within te quotes, but do not type the quotes. (space dash r-e-p-a-i-r) Then run the client. See if that helps.

Check your crash logs also to see if it’s generating an error somewhere.

Try those basics first and please post back if any of that helped.

1st off, you can’t really compare gw2 to others games, this one uses way more resources than most. 2nd, please post your system specs. And 3rd, I was thinking that the fps on the Mac client was awesome today, way better than it was before. I’m liking whatever they are fixing. Normally, we get the worst performance due to a cider wrapper port, no direct x, and our client requires twice the resources just to run.

So, post your specs and maybe someone can try and help you out

Quick fix for broken/non-loading trading post

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

I was perusing the bug and tech support forums and saw a thread about trading post issues. There were many complains: tp stops loading, can’t sell, can’t buy, can see what I’m selling, won’t load gem currency, constant spinning gold circle, etc. and this player who had the gem currency not displaying issue posted this as a quick fix as opposed to a full client restart to encourage it to start loading again:

“I used to have an issue where my gems box was empty my currency just showed up as three dots buy was always greyed out and sell was always blank.
I found a fix here on the forums that did not envolve closing the client.

1 Open trading post
2 Open options
3 Change game language from English to French and wait and watch the TP or other windows (usually gems will show up) but either way wait till text shows up in french.
4 Change game language back to English
5 Close options and use trading post as normal

This is not a permanent fix across different logins but it tends to stay fixed for the duration of a single playing session"

So, I of course tested this for a random issue that occurred for me, I could not preview anything or interact with the search results after an odd loading of the whole trading post/gem store, it worked! But then I closed and reopened the tp again, this time it was not loading much of anything, not my selling tab, search screen, anything related to trade, so I did it again… It worked!

So, yes, this works, after my 2nd attempt, it continued to work for at least another 25 minutes before I logged out.

The problem: after using this “fix” my screen reloaded as well, but this caused a gamma issue. It looked as though my gamma was turned down quite a bit. The fix for this is simply open the graphics panel, slide the gamma away from it’s current value, then back to your normal value. It occurred both times I used it.

I have only seen this gamma bug on my hubs MBPr when he adjusts the game resolution back to the retina display size after having used dual monitors. (the 2ndary monitor is set as default and if the game is closed while using that one, the next time he opens the game, it is set to a lower resolution and appears at a lower gamma) He occasionally gets the gamma bug after tabbing out while using the retina display too.

Final thoughts: yes, this is a dirty fix to an inconvenient issue, but honestly, if you just can’t be bothered to restart the client, try it! It can work with the odd loading issues that occur with the tp at times and it saves you the trouble of closing, re-opening and logging in again… Especially if you have exceptionally long zoning times or are waiting to get out of overflow or a wvw queue lol.

Please, if you try this, let me know if you get the gamma bug and what system you are on.

I just wanted I say that I tried this last night when my trading post stopped loading after opening/closing a few times consecutively… Of course lol. It worked! Oddly enough, it created a gamma bug where it looked like the gamma was turned down a bit, but opening the graphics panel and moving the gamma slider a bit fixed that, then just put it back to normal value. The not loading issue occurred twice, so I used it twice and the gamma issue occurred both times, but it is still much better than restarting the client.

Thanks Dark!

Sometimes uninstalling and performing a fresh install of the graphics drivers fixes things like this. Plus, make sure your windows updates are completely up-to-date, including the little seemingly unimportant update. Check direct x to be certain that is updated as well… Just in case.

Also, please list what video card you have, there is no problem mentioning your specific hardware pieces here, sometimes, that is the only way others can help.

new to gw2 having proplems with the update

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

Hi, sorry you’re having an issue… The initial download for the game is excruciating.

So, the game .dat file is around 17.5 gb in size. If you close the client while downloading, it should, upon re-opening the client, scan the data it already downloaded and continue from there. (see ilithis’ post for exceptions to this)

I believe in a windows environment, it saves the .dat file in its install location, you can get the properties of this file to see how much you have already downloaded and guesstimate how much more to go. I can’t remember if it appends an additional extension or if it is stored in a temp location prior to being complete, so this may prove challenging.

However, once the .dat file is completely downloaded, you may actually copy this download file and save it somewhere so you shouldn’t have to download all of it again. Just current updates. If you have a friend who plays, you can use a jump drive, external hard drive, or some similar media for copying data, to copy their file and transfer it to your computer. Just make sure to put it the right location. The client should scan this data to check for completeness and either “finish up” any misc data or move on to the current updates.

Hopefully this helps, and if anyone has further info that could be useful or make mine better, please follow up. I haven’t used windows in a bit to be 100% certain.

But anyway, it’s a crash because your system can’t keep up with how much data needs processing. It typically occurs in WvW during large Zerg on Zerg events.

I thought the peeps reading the forums were not the same peeps actively working on bugs. They just direct these to those who can. The only exception to this is when te devs themselves pop on to post specifically.

This may seem like a silly bug to some, but from an rp perspective, this really can affect submersion and playing in character. Some are so distracted by bugs lie this they don’t want to play that char until it’s fixed… And if it is their main char, it could really bother them.

Unfortunately, Jon Peters recently stated that they may not be actively responding on the forums to things (random bug posts that aren’t directly game breaking) like this.

Mister, have you considered filing a ticket? At least you might get peace of mind if they have an opportunity to respond to you directly. (not that they aren’t also probably very busy, but all tickets are read at the very least)

Error code 5 seems like a conflict somewhere. Make sure you temporarily disable any antivirus and firewall software (even on your modem/router, sometimes those are enabled by default). Unless you are on a public connection, then you may have a problem. Please post back regarding if any of the steps listed below helped, about your internet connection, crash logs (not just the Anet one), etc.

Have you checked your console/crash log yet?

~~~Also, try running a few of these steps, particularly, 1,2,3,5, try 4 again as a last resort after the others if no good (length warning, but please read each step completely):
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Yeah, it would seem, but there is nothing quite like it in there, or anywhere else i could find on my hard drive. But I did find a gw2.tmp within the application contents folder for gw2. I wonder if this is similar or not. This is where the 17gb dat file is, the crash.dmp, and gw2.log are located, it is 0bytes in size though. Still no temp cache or anything like it otherwise. Nor do we seem to run awesomium, but there is note of awesomium in the config file.
Really not sure, I’m hoping our standard gw2 folder is the only one we ever have to worry about (until we get that native client lol… Maybe…someday), and all these extraneous windows folders/files are just that… Extraneous.
Ah, found it rather quickly. Here is the post describing the windows (I was being lazy while poking around my file folders and didn’t reopen this post), however, they describe using search to find the temp folder, but another person described the location… Bugger, I’ll post the link to the thread after this:
“Hi. There are many factors that can cause problems with the Trading Post and/or Gem Store. In order to diagnose your specific problem, we’ll need you to submit a customer support ticket, please. Relaunch the game.
