Well, you can “kitten” rage lol… Sorry, I just love the use of the word kitten!
Have any of you tried filing a ticket yet? I mean, no one has actually posted any system specs, only 2 have mentioned their os, but no one mentioned 32 bit or 64 bit. These things are needed to actually help with anything other than generic fixes. I’ve also seen things like this get fixed from making sure all the updates in windows update get installed, especially the latest service packs.
So, if you’re not going to file a ticket, at least follow up with your full system specs, and/or use game advisor to create a report and post it here to give the support peeps something to work with. But if you do file a ticket and figure out your problem, please post your fix here for others experiencing the issue. Good luck to you all!
They may be looking into it, we just may not be getting a post about it. This link was just updated a few days ago.
So, I can’t guarantee they read this, but this kind of tries to assure us that they most likely have.
That is wonderful news to hear! Thank you for taking the time to do this for us, please keep us updated as you can!
I feel your pain completely Jade! My guild is also fairly small, I have 1 left, 1 representing their own guild, 2 completely inactive, 2barely active but 1 day a week, my hubs who barely plays, and me… The only active player. I’ve convinced hubs to log in on 5 daily to help and I do as well, but at 2 points per solo event it’s impossible to “level” a small guild. And I abhor when peeps say “join a bigger guild” uh… No!
It’s hard enough being a small guild, I don’t even have enough peeps to do the training bounties because anyone who can login hasn’t explored anywhere but the main story areas and some don’t even have a lvl 80 yet.
These influence bugs are terribly detrimental to small guilds when login influence gets more than half of the daily influence gained on a marathon play day.
I’ve submitted in-game reports on every character that misses influence for no good reason and a follow-up report after the tally completes. I wonder if this bit will ever be addressed. I mean having 2 characters on 2 different accounts who happen to log on to the same map (one player running around on a map, you don’t know they are there yet, you log onto first character of the day only to see, they are there and you didn’t get your points…fail!) that’s just silly!
Anyway, maybe we’ll see some word on this soon. (end rant)
Glad you got your client working again. And thanks for helping munkiman
I’ve observed this new bug on my hubs Mesmer (haven’t played mine recently). But yes, I can confirm that this is happening… They just randomly stand there and do nothing until the baddie is dead or they are. It’s not consistent, but it is occurring.
Foxx, you kind of missed the point of my post, but it’s okay… We know there are more than 20 unique Mac users out there, so we get it… Really. Those experiencing problems are a minority… I said that. That wasn’t in disagreement, nor was it what my post was referring to… In fact, I actually agreed with you on the minority point.
However, this point is a bit off topic, so ending that now.
Thanks again Ashley. Looking forward to the increased support for others on here, although you must be crazy busy… Hopefully you get an extra cupcake for your efforts!

Try this: (read completely before attempting)
Delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp issues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
After you do this, try out your tp again. Please post back if this works or not. If it does not work, you may need to file a ticket. Please let us know how goes either way. If you need a ticket, please post your fix back here to help others who may experience the same issue. Good luck!
I remember reading about some issue with some asus software. You may want to check your msconfig for an asus program and try disabling that, restart and test it. If you aren’t sure, please file the ticket.
Thanks for the thought Ashley. We’re just really hoping for some news or a confirmation or something, but your help on this forum is very appreciated… At least our issues may be communicated to the higher powers unlike how it was before.
Foxx, you don’t know this and no one has confirmed it. I highly doubt Anet would leave their product in someone else’s hands solely, most likely they paid to get the port and a few months of support from their team, but furthermore, they’d have to pay for future support from an outside team. No offense to those still trying to help us (thank you again Ashley), but they are still responsible for the support provided to the Mac client users.
As for the peeps on the forums, I’ve said it time and time again that peeps only come to the forums when they have an issue and yes, that’s a fairly small minority of players, but some of us just stick around to help others because we found help here once.
So, let’s just wait for our response and hope it’s favourable, be grateful for having a support rep actually reading our forum and offering help to us, and just keep helping those who need it… Without constructive words, there is no reason to post.
Or if you purchase a new battery, you could test the plug issue. They typically run about $100 or so from the Mac store for removable batteries, otherwise, it needs to be serviced by a qualified person. But keep us posted if you happen to try anything that works before your new comp.
Hotspot? Meaning a public connection?
Ah, glad you found it and that would make sense at the point you were crashing. I just assumed you had the right ones… Bad me. But yay for you getting to play!
I run on a laptop also, MBP late 2011 specifically (purchased in dec of 2011), my GPU never goes above 82c, my CPU runs a bit hotter (i7 quard core), but nothing too extreme. I picked up a cooling pad to help with dissipating the under heat (which could heat a house in the winter), but I rarely have heat issues. I cleaned my fans and venting areas out just after launch and my system had more bunnies hiding in the corners than a farm and that helped significantly. The fans sound like a jet engine gearing up, but that’s it, no issues.
As for keeping it cool… Keep it clean, use a cooling pad to evacuate hot air trapped underneath, run at slightly lower graphics settings, and just watch your temps. (I run on medium settings without an issue, I lower a few settings for high impact WvW to help with fps dips during Zerg on Zerg gatherings)
Shawn, this is a bit off topic for this thread, but if you do have dual cards, you can go under energy settings and in-tick the option for it to manage which vid card it uses without having to plug in an external display. If you do need further assistance, please open a new thread. Ty
But back to our regularly scheduled Mac forum chat.
Woot, Ashley, point someone here to give us an update on Mac support!
(read first post – we need a sticky or something if we only have limited times for support)
Doesn’t whirlwind use ground targeting?
It’s not an Internet issue. I know poor Internet issues when I see them.
I’ve seen the mouse cursor disappear while managing inventory (makes salvaging a pain), but that is not what I’m referring to. Also, the mouse cursor sometimes vanishes while in-combat making staff necro annoying (I have fast ground casting on, don’t care to turn it off either). I had seen this reported elsewhere also.
I have experienced the pulsing/skill input lag, but considering that has been reported hundreds of times by many others, I didn’t note that because the initial problem I listed is different and never occurs at the same time as the input lag. What I’m experiencing is like “lost input” as if the client never received key clicks it to send over the network to the servers. I’ve had a couple Mac friends experience it, but I don’t run on pc enough to confirm it happening there.
Good luck friend!
This tells you where your log file is… Oh and how to submit a ticket, just in case! ;p
But it seems you may have already found that <.<
There should be an arenanet log file in there. Sadly, I can’t remember the location on pc. Maybe a dev will see this in the morning or perhaps a ticket is in order.
Sorry, I’m pretty lame help tonight. I’m not sure if it could be related, but you could try running msconfig and temporarily disabling your startup programs, then restart the comp. then try gw2 again. If it fails repeat the last steps and re-enable programs. If it works, repeat those steps but only enable one program at a time, restart, test game, rinse repeat until it fails again.
Otherwise, go for the ticket and post your fix back here.
Okay, this is going to be a long one!
So it seems you’re just a but below the min requirements with your os, they recommend at least 10.7, and considering they’ve been “optimising” the client lately, it may be affecting it. However… As for your error, some peeps claim that unplugging the charger from the laptop, then trying to log in (on a character) while running on battery works for them, then plug back in afterwards. Some say this didn’t help them. Others claim running a repair worked, it didn’t for others. Then several also claim that an smc reset worked, but not for everyone… So, try the battery thing! If that works or doesn’t, I suggest filing a ticket either way and try to get some more light shed on this. Please post whatever fix that worked for you back here in case others have this issue.
In the meantime, I’m going to post our lengthy list of troubleshooting techniques for the Mac, you may try them if you wish. If you want to try them, read the list completely first.
Here it is (ready or not):
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and some graphics issues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.

Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. (I think you need to open finder using alt+click) At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Sorry I don’t have a specific “fix” for you, this issue manifests itself differently for different peeps on different comps, good luck and please keep us updated.
So it sounds like it’s unable to start following the last update, hmmm.
Have you checked your crash logs? You can see if there is some error occurring there.
Thanks for posting that, now I know in case I see it happen again to someone else.
We’re all hoping for an update to our awesome client mondello, but maybe now that we have an acknowledgment, we’ll get one sooner rather than later. ~keeping fingers crossed~
For these issues, you guys should really post system specs. And the devs like gameadvisor reports too. But in the meantime, have you uninstalled and reinstalled the latest video card drivers? Running as administrator? Are you certain you meet the min requirements? Direct x up to date?
You can try running msconfig to temporarily disable your startup programs, restart your comp and try loading the game again. (you can re-enable and restart afterwards, but if it works with everything disabled, only enable 1 at a time and test the game in between each restart)
If you can’t get the help you need here, you may want to look at the submit a ticket sticky and do so, then post your fix back here after.
Sometimes deleting your gw2 cache helps, but I have no idea where it is on pc, might want to search around here for that. It’s not perfect and the tp still fails to load without restart sometimes, but it might help.
If waiting doesn’t fix it for you, try this:
Waiting is also listed.
So, if I’m getting this right, you start to download the updates from the launcher (pretty white screen with the red downloading bar), but upon completing, it slows to nothing, then closes after the launcher screen clears the download bar and goes white?
I know you mentioned you played last year, so is this a fresh install or an update to your old/original install?
This is a Mac client issue only, it started on 3/26. I’ve been raving in a post on it, but it has not been resolved. It has finally been acknowledged today by Ashley.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Graphical-Error-Bug-on-Hawk/first#post2149427
P.s. you gain influence immediately upon a player choosing a character to login on, but you don’t see the tally until around 2-5 pm server time (US), somewhere around there. And you don’t always see it everyday, sometimes, it skips days and will add 2 days together, which really sucks if you have over 10 peeps login each of those days, after 20 characters, you only 5 points per character. (example if 11 players log in Monday and 11 players log in Tuesday, you should get 220 pts, but if the tally doesn’t show up on Monday, on Tuesday, you will see 22 members for 210 pts)
This has been an issue for awhile, I posted this a few months ago on the guild problems sticky that was recently unstickied:
Many problems arrive because of Lions Arch! Also, as for guild login influence.(I personally, haven’t had any guild admin issues knocks on wood)however, I went through one day and filled out about 5 bug reports for daily login influence (one per character logged with a problem each and one for an end of day tally). My findings for those experiencing issues as well will now be listed in hopes this can help some of us smaller guilds.
1. Stay clear of lions arch at all costs! Do not log any character in la and expect points… Just doesn’t happen, and if you get stuck in an overflow, kiss the points you would’ve gotten goodbye. You can get points rarely, but again, it’s rare! Drop them in the Bloodtide coast or take a gate out to somewhere else, then log out.
2. Avoid zones with overflow, you won’t get them.
3. You will only ever get credit for a max of 5 characters per accountper day. Even if you have 8 characters logged a day, you only get 5 of them, so make them count.
4. Make sure each character you log is in a unique location. (don’t log 2 characters located in Rata Sum, for example, you’ll only get the points for the first one) As a precaution, make sure when you log off of a character, you drop them off in a unique location (unique map) before leaving them.
5. Now this one makes no sense at all, but it seems there is a connection between characters on different accounts within a guild and their locations. Say one person is logged in already (currently) at the Black Citadel, and you log on to your character in the Black Citadel, it seems, you won’t get your login points. I’ve tested this several times over the last few days and it has happened multiple times. So there you go… Go figure how that is possible! Still happens, tested it 3 days ago.
6. Timing also seems to be related. If 2 people log in at virtually the same time, your guild may only get credit for one character… This includes switching characters. Not sure how that works either, but I’ve seen it happen. It may not be consistent, but very possible. Still happens, tested 1 week ago.
I can’t guarantee that any of you will have the same problems, but after tracking this for almost a month solid (2-3months now), I’ve found these issues and tested several of them multiple times. I’ve observed the guild login influence issues since november, but have only narrowed down specifics in the last 2 months. And sometimes, you still don’t get points on every character, for no apparent reason. But these problems still persist and it really makes problems for us smaller guilds. I mean, how many people leave their characters in Lion’s Arch due to convenience?!?! And if you leave multiple characters there, you shoot yourself in the foot.
Small guilds count on these influence points to build currency for upgrades. If you only have 5 players, 1 who logs almost daily and plays a lot, 1 who logs for a few hours on weekends only, and 2 who log only about 2 hours a week if lucky… Most on only one character, at 2 influence per event, it takes a long time to gain points for anything useful. Pve guilds barely stand a chance unless points accumulate smoothly and without fault.
So, I hope these tips I found can help other small guilds to maximise their influence gain. Sorry this is so long, I just wanted to be thorough. And please, refrain from telling us small guild peeps to find a larger guild or change guilds, because we are in these small guilds for a reason, so that’s not helping. These things need to be fixed!!!!
Didn’t feel like chopping it up to shorten it, but added notes. I also recently checked the wiki on guild influence, so several of these points have been confirmed there (ie unique maps, 5 chars, overflow might still be listed -it was when I originally made this post)
I do hope this helps you figure out your issue… Oh and representing is a given lol, you can confirm a player is representing if they have a solid green block next to their name, if it has a horizontal bar through it, they are not.
Yeah, it’s long, sorry!
Are you getting any error codes? Have you checked your crash logs? Also, could you post your specs?
Thank you so much for taking the time to acknowledge us and visiting us on the Mac forums too!!!
I just saw Ashley’s post also. I’m pretty stoked to see her posting here to help our maccies having troubles. Perhaps she’ll be able to stick around to help those still having issues and newbies to the Mac client (at least check in with us every couple days). I know she’s quite busy on the tech support forum, but because the FAQ points new maccies here, it would be great to have a knowledgable tech support person able to help out, if a Mac specialist isn’t available.
:) yay progress, I hope she doesn’t leave us! ~crossing fingers~
I’ve never observed this, I’ll have to try it next time my bags are full.
Btw, I know you can’t unequip 2 1hand weapons for a single 2 hand weapon if your bags are full (ie rifle in place of 2 pistols) since there won’t be any space for the 2nd item being unequipped. But I’ve never had an issue with armor. Will test when I can.
What symptoms are you actually getting?
Can you open the game to the launcher? Does the launcher complete the download/patch step? Is it even getting that far? Is the play button greyed out? Does it crash when you hit play? Do you receive an error anywhere along the line? Does the game fail to launch at all and jut go back to desktop with an error or message? What’s up?
Monitor your temps while playing. Also, watch your psu. Typically systems shut down like this due to overheating, but it could also be an insufficient or faulty psu or oter faulty hardware (motherboard, memory, etc).
Just watch your CPU and GPU temps and see how you go. You may want to clean them out a bit or add extra fans. Dust bunnies are tricky little culprits that sneak ino the tightest spaces. Gw2 is very system intensive and will tax out even the nicest systems if they aren’t properly maintained.
They love reminding us that it’s beta lol
Got a response though and an acknowledgement that this issue exists.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Graphical-Error-Bug-on-Hawk/first#post2146126
If only we could get an update on this forum lol ;p
You can try this or wait it out. Works for some.
Seriously, where did Ashley’s post go?
Lol, my hubs said to me “when you get a bee in your bonnet, you just don’t quit” I couldn’t help but laugh… Especially in regards to this. Just trying to help all of us maccies in some way.
Foxx, you misunderstand the whole point of this thread. It’s not about complaining about the Mac client, as I’ve said before, this was a pleasant surprise and convenience for Mac users like myself.. I also purchased the collector’s edition for windows prior to launch, so this was just a treat.
What we are making a point about is how on the support FAQ page, they specifically state that the Mac client is supported here, but 5 months ago, they stopped supporting here. We just want them to update/inform players of this status. Ideally, by making a sticky on these forums (original title of thread)
As for support, I clearly state to anyone seeking help that they could try the basic troubleshooting steps, then absolutely submit a ticket. If Anet can’t help with those, then there is a problem. If they can’t help because it’s a transgaming port, then that also should be remedied in good faith since many paid specifically for the Mac client.
We just wanted a response to the very first post on this thread. Yep, we get sidetracked and would like answers, but that is the point here.
P.s. Ashley responded to me on the tech support forum and stated that our bugs should still be addressed on the bug forums, but as of yesterday, she responded and then deleted her response to my bug thread on there (just before I could read it).
Next time it starts linking to chat, try actually linking something on purpose using ctrl +linkable item (I usually drop it in guild or party chat). That tends to fix the constant linking from mouse clicks for me.
As for your minimising issue, sounds like a process is running that is pulling attention from the main window, you usually see this when an error occurs or something needs your attention. You may want to check running items or try msconfig to temporarily disable your startup items and test if it still happens, then check for running processes if it does. You can re-enable your items afterwards. Always restart after running msconfig and making changes.
How bizarre is that, I know I just saw a post from Ashley on here just now. But once the page loaded, it was gone and now this thread is back down the list with no post, but the icon is still red as if there was a post from a dev. What did I miss?
I don’t crash when unlocking a skill on my engi, but I do get a nasty lag spike every time. If I try to unlock multiple skills consecutively, it takes about 20-30 seconds to recover. I thought it was just the client, but after trying it on another character I noticed it didn’t do it… So I was blaming network lag or Mac client issue for a bit until I saw this. Glad to know it’s not just a Mac client bug!
I’ve seen some peeps fix the rainbow of colours (blues/greens) by uninstalling video card drivers, downloading and re-installing the newest drivers from the website. Try that and if it doesn’t work, file a ticket (see the sticky), then post the fix here for others.
The devs recommend the waiting option, since after 10-20 mins it’s supposed to re-initiate an alternate download. However, some players have stated that they’ve waiting overnight plus several more hours for it to work. So sometimes this option is faster for them. But I’m glad to hear you got yours finished
Waitin waiting waiting, all season long. Waiting waiting waiting, it makes your patience strong, all season long!
Still waiting
