You found the only real fix other than waiting for Mac. Glad you got your issue resolved.
Still utterly disappointing that there has been minimal response on this forum.
French and German have been known to work for some. Spanish and English are no go… Change it back to your default language once the download completes.
Btw, if one language doesn’t work, try another. If none of this works, try the DNS fix (search the tech forums for that). If that lest work, try running in compatibility mode until you find the os that does. If absolutely none of that works, submit a ticket.
Use the dye remover on them (all colour sections), then close the hero panel to save. Then re-open and dye to desired colour, then close panel again. This should do it.
Try changing the language to French (setting in top right corner, then switch back to default language when complete). Or look up the DNS solution to try. Or try running it with compatibility mode enabled (use different options to see what works for you). Or submit a ticket or personal help… Or try them all.
How about French? That was the first one that worked. Also, there may still be the waiting element. You didn’t mention if you tried the DNS solution.
Btw, they do have support tickets for those instances that can’t be fixed via forum troubleshooting.
I don’t have any screens from pc available (or any atm), but I can tell you that a 15" MBP doesn’t even compare to the 15" MBPr. I run on medium settings and get about 30fps, and between 10-20 during heavily populated encounters. The MBPr gets ~60 fps on high settings, stunning! Also, the vistas on the MBP stutter many times while they do not on the MBPr (99% of the time). Now comparing the MBPr to a pc with comparable vid card (MBPr has mobile version of course), the graphics can be played on the highest settings while still getting over 60fps and zero stutter on vistas.
The pc client is snappier as well due to the fact that the Mac client is a beta version run using the cider wrapper… This is like a program running a program.
All that being said, I have minimal issues running the Mac client on a 15" MBP late 2011. It’s not as pretty as an MBPr or a pc, it’s not as fast, but it plays well enough to enjoy the game most times! And I still think it looks pretty on medium, just not as pretty as he others.
(I have 3 computers running gw2 at home… 15" MBP late 2011, 15" MBPr 2012, and a pc that is currently about 1 year old (little less))
I hope the language solution works for you, if not, try the dns one. (there is a Q/A post where someone listed it recently)
If none of that works, submit a ticket! Then post your fix here.
Well, very constructive criticism if I don’t say so myself.
Have you tried this:
Or the dns fix?
There is also the dev recommended fix of waiting for the alternate system to finish the download, but some have said that could take up to overnight plus a few more hours.
I don’t think they do. Notice how Mesmer clones will fight on the dragons head? He’s not really on the ground I know, it sucks! My main is a staff necro that uses wells (minions die too quickly to be useful anyway, I use marks for the protection boon and life steal)
1. What language?
2. Are your firewalls and antiviruses temporarily disabled or with gw2 exceptions?
3. Have you tried the dns change option? (that works for some)
Hahaha, yeah, I’m just really hoping that someone will be coming by to update… I know, futile, but trying to unbury some lost optimism.
Try this, it seems to be working for some.
Sivantes, some have also said changing the language to German works as well.
But it none of the posted fixes that some have found work for you, you may have to submit a ticket to get to the bottom of your issue.
A moderator closed a recent topic on our forums today, I wonder if they’ll get someone to update us on our current status? (state of the Mac client, known bugs being worked on, will we have official support or are we still on our own)
~crossing fingers~
This has worked for a bunch of people!
If you call or submit a ticket and get a proper fix, come back here and post the solution.
A person on the Mac forums had this issue and he said “changing the language in the top right corner caused the whole patch to re-download and complete” he did note that Spanish did not work, but FRENCH did. Once it finishes downloading, you can change the language back to your default. (the devs recommend leaving the client run 10-20 minutes to re-initialize an alternate download, but some peeps have reported it can take up to overnight plus a few more hours on top of that)
This may or may not work for you, but several peeps have reported German to work also.
Please post back and let me know if this works for you.
It’s like looking at the moon!
Have you tried uninstalling and re-installing the latest video card drivers? (definitely check for the newest version)
If that doesn’t work, you might want to try deleting your local.dat file (check the tech support forums for instructions, search around).
If you just can’t figure it out, submit a ticket, then come back here and post your fix for anyone else who experiences this.
Ashley on the tech support forums mentioned that we should still be posting our Mac client bugs here (considering that Anet is no longer supporting the Mac client forums)… So here we are posting and yet nothing still.
Where are you guys? Are you even listening to us Mac customers? One month without a response, what is going on?
I absolutely agree… I haven’t settled on just that response, but I’m trying to get as much attention in as many places as possible in hopes that they will assign someone here or at least tell us straight up what is going on.
Btw, has anyone tried fb or twitter yet? (sometimes social media gets more attention due to the sheer number of people who view it)
That is bad! You may want to delete those links so no one else actually clicks on them and maybe forward this email to the arenanet team for investigation and possibly to warn customers of this. (reason I suggest deleting is if they are substituting lower case L with a capital I (i), it could still cause a problem)
Gazully, I’m guessing the option he was referring to is the last option under the camera settings called: Mac Beta: Use either mouse button to change direction
That seems to negate the “use free camera” option.
I run an MBP late 2011 with way less specs than that and I keep my settings on medium (on average), I get ~30fps. Yeah, it’s not the 60 fps my hubs gets on his MBPr or a pc with high settings, but it suits me better than low (I’d cry if I had to run low).
I was playing WvW for awhile with these settings… I refuse to lower all of my settings, but I did adjust the WvW culling settings to medium and low. I haven’t played much since April, but I wasn’t getting that much crashing then… Before the march 26th update I had a ton, after I had a few model reference and memory errors, but that’s pretty much it. I was getting between 20-30 fps and variations during large zergs. But never closing out unless there was a crash.
Try watching your GPU and CPU temps and let us know what they look like while the comp is idle and after you’ve played the game for over 10 minutes. And any other symptoms you may notice (fps dips, etc).
Also, I just remembered this, I notice on my Mac, my inactive memory takes over and won’t relinquish when it’s needed… I end up running out of memory (was a huge issue with 4gb, but 8 isn’t as bad). When this happens, my system while running gw2 will lag so bad the game is unplayable. Check your Activity Monitor and view the memory tab, if your blue/ inactive memory is large and your green is tiny (I’d go down to 10mb at times), you need to open terminal and purge to free it. That fixes my lag and fps dip issues usually… You have 24gb, I don’t see how you could ever have this, but worth a check anyway.
Also, check your console log for errors around the time of a crash.
I was just glad to finally be acknowledged. Please feel free to help us continue to get attention here and the help we deserve.
Did you try French?
Well, let’s hope someone follows through with checking in on us and giving us an answer about the state of the Mac beta forums and our bugs.
To get the achieve, you have to make sure everyone gets karka’d while you remain standing. I believe you can also clock someone and knock them down while everyone else gets steam rolled. This achieve has absolutely nothing to do with holding the crab last as the game ends. I convinced a group to help me test the theory because none of us could figure it out.

We got a dev response on the tech support forums finally!!! I’m really hoping this will open the doors for someone to give us a little attention here too.
Also, Ashley still recommends that a ticket is our best course of action here for help needed.
Ashley, I thank you so much for this reply! I will share this post with our current Mac population on the Mac forums.
We understand we’re still in beta and we have posted obvious Mac bugs on the game bugs forum, however, after one full month, we still have yet to be acknowledged.

I know we’ll all be looking forward to any response at all from a dev on the Mac forums… We’ve been waiting a month there too.
I changed the name after 3 weeks because people were still writing there (on the forums, seeking help) thinking they would get an official response.
Thank you again for taking the time to read this!
Probably should’ve filed a ticket, at least more issues are resolved there. The forums are probably the worst way to get help from devs, you’re more likely to hear fom other players here.
I guess this still isn’t being read by the devs
Yeah I agree, sounds like the hard drive is failing. Do you have a backup drive you can install the game on?
They just closed that thread 20 minutes ago…. Where is our moderator?!?!
I’ve had issues of this once or twice and usually there was some app causing the system to divert attention away from the game. But since you aren’t having another window or text box open you may not see it. Perhaps try killing any apps from the system tray and any extraneous programs from running and monitor that while playing. If a new app is loaded then, it may be your problem. I think msconfig allows you to temporarily disable startup programs. The devs have posted the instructions for that on here many times, try searching for that on the forums for the instructions.
Hope this helps… And if not, hopefully someone else will have good insights. Or check the the sticky and submit a ticket. Please come back and post what fixed it for you.
Whenever you change forms (death shroud excluded), your minions die. That is a game mechanic. It does seem a little op and harsh to a necro, but I guess I could understand it because your cast bar changes, therefore, those skills/minions cannot persist. It’s like swapping skills in a utility slot causes a minion to de-summon. (keep lich form in mind… All minions die instantly)
Download failed! Please check your internet connection and try again. (2)

What kind of connection are you on? (home, university, public, wireless/wired) It’s possible there is a firewall blocking your download on the hardware, also, if you run any antivirus programs, make sure those are temporarily disabled or be certain to add exceptions for gw2. I’ve seen others run the app on port 80 to help sometimes too (search around for those instructions)
If you just can’t get it, check the sticky for submitting a ticket and have at it. Post your fix back here
There are several other threads regarding similar issues (blue/green graphics, fps dips, etc). Some of the fixes have been to uninstall and reinstall the graphics drivers ensuring that they are absolutely the most current. There have been some apps that conflict with graphics in this game and also, watch your GPU heat. Search around a bit through the most recent few pages and you’ll find them.
That’s on anet’s side, we have absolutely no control over that as far as I know.
I’m my MBP, my GPU runs a few degrees cooler than my CPU. It may be nothing at all though, just coincidence.
What a strange artifact. I have no idea what that is, but it looks similar in nature to the hawk artifacts. What profession is he?
My MBP runs at about those temps and sometimes just slightly higher, yet I don’t have this issue. Verify your GPU temps though.
Otherwise, have you tried the basic Mac troubleshooting steps?
Just so you don’t have to wait, I’ll post the LONG descriptive list now ;p
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many t kitten ues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Just a bump for peeps still having issues.
Is Tuesday a lucky day to get a response to anything related to the Mac client? Here’s to hoping.
I don’t know, I’m just starting to lose hope here
File tickets, but don’t come to the forum to get answers unless the post already exists.
