We’ve had some issues, but it’s less common on the Mac than the pc, but at least they get dev responses. We’re cut off from the rest of the players here and our only lifeline is support tickets… If they even get answered for us. Keep submitting tickets or your issues and post back if you ever get a response and whatever your fix was.

Or peruse the most recent posts and go through the basic Mac troubleshooting steps. Then make a ticket and post your results here if nothing else works.

The problem is, this forum for Mac is not supported by Anet any longer.

So, who did you talk to (what support)? Was it through a ticket?

Have you tried all of the standard Mac fixes (software update, repair permissions, repair client, disable antivirus and firewalls, delete the gw2 folder contents, etc)? If not, I can post instructions of them for you.

Also, you can roll the dice and try your luck on the pc tech support forum… But we tend to get ignored or told to come back here. And they keep getting help for this same issue including some with solutions.

I’m sorry you’re experiencing this issue, but for us maccies, tickets are truly our only option

Game Crash at Character Selection

You are also at the bare minimum system requirements and the MBA isn’t listed as a “supported” system. That being said, I’ll still list some of the basic Mac troubleshooting steps [length warning]:

Read each step completely before attempting

1.) monitor your system temps using istat or some other temp app. You want to check your GPU and even moreso, your CPU. List both temps while the system is idle and after while “attempting to run” the game or after 10 minutes of play if you ever get there.

2.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.

3.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…

4.) repair the client install

Open Terminal

Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.

5.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many t kitten ues, even without the previous steps

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..

~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:

Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.

6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.

You may need to somehow clean the inside of your system and clear the fans and vents of dust and debris (trust me, it’s in there).

Please come back and let me know how you go and what works.

WASD keys bug out underwater after long play

Not sure if this is your issue, but sometimes a directional key will get stuck (as if you are holding it in despite not pressing it). A fix to try would be to PRESS the key that seems stuck. So if you are running forward uncontrollably, tap W and it should stop.

Come back if you have the issue still or let us know if that fixes it next time it happens.

Many peeps in the US and EU are having similar issues.

You can try this to test the connection to the server and possibly see where the issue is.

You can try disabling your anti-virus and firewalls (including those on routers/modems), or make exceptions for the game.

I think I’ve seen a dev recommend running msconfig and disabling some startup programs. (you can re-enable them if they aren’t causing an issue for you)

You can also try this to help the connection, use the error code 7.x:

I personally use QoS with high priority rather than port forwarding, but it shows the important ports.

If these things don’t help, check the submit a ticket sticky and do so. Then post your fix here.

PROOF of Anet Server lag issues

I’m sorry, I don’t see what you’re talking about with the Mac activity monitor. I run it constantly while playing and I can assure you I know the difference between my system latency and network latency. I’ve run these tests multiple times while experiencing lag and not.

I’ve only experienced lag when I see numbers like shown above, in particular, the first example of the traceroute run. I don’t have lag any other time, even when my #4 hop has some latency, it never actually affects my game play. But you can clearly see that there is a significant packet loss in the first traceroute run which is when I was experiencing the most significant lag. It may not be 100% everything conclusive, but it may help the Anet team find other details they need to resolve the significant increase in players experiencing lag. And honestly, I don’t have nearly the issues that others do.

I run this game on 2 macs and a pc, I have 4 friends who use Macs with this game, but none of thse comps have this issue. And as I’ve said, I’ve only had it one time just after the WvW update.

Because we don’t have many Mac peeps reporting it, everyone who is experiencing it should just keep pushing those tickets in until they find a way to resolve it. Hopefully they’ll find something soon… If they’re still working on the Mac client o.O

I just took this traceroute about 5 minutes prior to posting this (due to login time and typing lol) immediately after I started to experience a significant amount of lag in-game. This lag includes extended loading times, delay in loading into WvW (I sat in the world for about 30 seconds before the loading screen even appeared), delay in transferring items to bank/guild bank, managing inventory, vendoring items, some movement stutter as well as input/skill lag.

Yes, there is some latency in chicago… that is typical for this time of day, but rarely causes me lag issues in-game. What is to note is the latency and packet loss on the Anet Server 64.25.32.26 (hop 12)

You can see this issues is fleeting as it ebbs and wanes throughout the day/evening, particularly at prime times. But here you can see there is no packet loss, but there is still a server lag associated. It is currently roughly about 5pm US server time.

I have been experiencing some rubber banding for the last 30 mins (prior to running the trace route) while I was completing my story (retribution), but it wasn’t that unmanageable for me, it caused me to dodge INTO attacks rather than out of them, but I survived intact for the most part.

And one more for good measure. Each trace route has been completed 5 minutes apart over the course of 15 minutes. My lag is currently minimal, but I haven’t done anything requiring any significant amount of data, just testing skill input at the moment in the WvW starting area.

Claw Island Personal Story: disconnected

I had issues with claw island d/c’ing when I first did it months ago. It took me 5 tries to complete it… One time, I got the beacons lit and d/c’d while the vid played. I’ve since done claw island several more times on other characters and with my hubs and his instance was so lagged he could barely complete it or get the treb to hit the ship… I had to swim out and smack it to progress the story for him… But it is still super laggy as of 1 month ago when I did it last. I’ll be doing it again soon and hope it isn’t as bad. I findit less laggy when I go alone, personally. It’s an odd bug!

Auto-targeting works, but half the time, you auto-target a baddie farther away and end up pulling 2 o.O

And when downed by several guys at a time, it can make targeting the one with lowest health a challenge when combined with the random target change bug… Tab targeting to the right guy (lowest health, killable) to kill is enough time to get you killed, especially when you target a non-engaged baddie while downed (yes, that’s happened to me lol)

Best settings for Early 2011 13" Macbook Pro?

Honestly, on an MBP low is pretty much the recommended settings. Deal with the screen tearing and leave vertical sync off.

I have an MBP 15" late 2011 with 8gb ram upgrade, I can only run at medium as my max and I get about 25-30 unless a large scale fight is active or when turning in a highly populated areas. I get slightly more on low, but I pick my battles, I’d rather the 30 on med settings.

You just have to play with your settings and find your desired look with your desired performance balance. Just know you will never get the performance someone on a High or even medium range pc rigg gets. (medium is as high as we will ever get to play with, low is “ideal.”)

A few more suggestions from a dev on the pc forums that may or may not help:

-Clean installation of the latest video card drivers (never had to do this on a Mac)
-Remove router/disable SPI Firewall (less common but this has been known to fix black screen issues)
-Delete local.dat file + Repair (Mac equivalent noted above)
-DirectX update (not Mac related since we have a cider port, that’s on their end)
-Delete gw2cache folder (noted above)
-Changing your in-game resolution (easy enough to try if you do get in, if not, that’s going to require work… And probably a ticket so I don’t mess it up on you)

Again, l hope something in one of these posts works, keep me updated here

I’ve got a few more photos that I’m hoping a dev will see and finally address for us.

This issue occurs on hawks around the environment and ranger pet hawks alike. This is very distracting! I also recently encountered it within a dungeon with a Ranger using a hawk.

Please acknowledge this issue and let us know a fix is in the works. This started occurring just after the 3/26 patch. Only on Mac client.

Ah yes, that does happen when it verifies the files sometimes. They use a download progress bar while verifying, but it looks like it’s downloading super fast.

This isn’t just a windows issue! It happens on Mac. I made a post about it in the Mac forums along with several others months ago, but we never got word back as the Mac forums are no longer monitored (even now, I await a response 2 weeks already to verify that Anet is no longer moderating or supporting the Mac forums). I’ve also filed several in-game bug reports sometimes while the bug is active and other times after the restart.

The only fix is a whole client restart. I’ve repaired, deleted my gw2 folder contents, repairs system permissions, all updates complete, and still this bug persists.

I can’t duplicate it, it just happens randomly when it feels like it. I’ve noticed it more in the Bloodtide Coast, but I’ve experienced it in dungeons as well (making me a detriment to the group as I was a minion necro with no control over my target) and other locations, so I doubt that is relevant. Oddly enough, I can still use the mouse to cast skills and use the ui, but I cannot interact with the game world using the mouse in anyway (nodes, npcs, selecting targets, nothing). [forgot to add] this also affects the touch pad, when I tab out, the mouse works perfectly everywhere else, when I tab back in, the issue still exists despite working 2 seconds prior everywhere else.

Would love to finally hear something about this… Sorry guys, but I’m glad to finally see a pc person with this issue, maybe it will finally get the attention it needs. Because it makes the game nearly unplayable and causes sticky, unsurvivable conditions.

You’re still going to need the Internet following a complete install (if you can even install it without the Internet at all), the client auto-detects for patches on loading… Gw2 uses lots of Internet for those.

We could implore them to include total patch sizes with each one somehow for monitoring, but it won’t solve the problem.

I had the same issue in AU with Internet there, very expensive and very limited bandwidth for crappy speed and loss of connection issues. Hope you can find a resolution.

Lol, I completely understand. Same boat, I have boot camp and feel like I betrayed my computer putting windows on it.

As for the error, I got that a bit too just after the culling update, but I haven’t gotten but one time… Granted, I haven’t had much time to play larger scale stuff in the last few weeks sadly. And this error is just us maccies.

I do have an easier time in those fights since I modified some settings on my router (don’t get as much slow down and choppiness which would always occur before a crash with error), but that may be completely unrelated. But I can say, it made a huge difference even before the culling update… I could heal!!! Once… Then die ;p

Why don’t you submit a ticket? At least then they could see more samples from Mac peeps which is severely lacking due to lack of support on this forum. Check the sticky, do it, and come back here and post what fixed it for you please

Merge the lag posts

At least they’re responding sometimes here. You get threads that have been solved closed and sometimes, even an honest to goodness answer/response from a real dev. We have peeps on the Mac forum with issues for months and nothing. I’ve been waiting 2 weeks for an unnamed moderator to come back with a response.

Mac peeps come to the pc forums for help and get ignored or told to get back in the Mac forums (in slightly nicer words). [please forgive my frustration on the issue]

But not to re-rail here, I agree, these threads need to be merged, too many to try and sift through for answers. It would also help to get the “game won’t download” threads merged as well as the “bad fps since…” threads merged. Too many of those around and nobody going back to them and reading them, just creating new threads. I was just thinking about this the other day too.

Btw, we have a bunch of update download and fps issues since the patch on the Mac forums still too needing help. At least you guys on the pc forums get asked to post reports for troubleshooting lol.

P.S. to the devs, please send someone over to the Mac side to help there too lol

Serious fall damage bug

When I experienced the issue, I was using my engi in a pve map. I don’t think I was swapping weapons (since I can’t, nor swapping packs) or doing anything special at all other than running off a cliff to move along the base to get to the start of a vista (Harathi Hinterlands).

That being said, it very well could be possible I had a grenade pack on and took it off, but I really don’t think I was doing that.

I’ve been very careful to not jump off cliffs so much since I got lucky during my first and last bout, but if I can replicate it, I’ll report back… However, it seems enough peeps are having this issue to merit further investigation from Anet, especially considering they already merged the jump loop threads.

Usually a client restart fixes that. (it is a silly looking bug lol, but frustrating at time too) I usually get it (when I actually get it to occur, hasn’t been much lately) following a code 7 disconnect or some other random crash that sends me back to the character select screen. Rarely do I get it upon lading the client, if ever. If a restart doesn’t fix it, you can try these steps: (read full instructions before trying)

Deleting the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many t kitten ues and some graphics issues

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..

~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders appear as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:

Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.

This will reset your graphics setting and sound setting I believe. But if it doesn’t work, check the sticky to submit a ticket, then do so. Please come back here and post the fix that worked for you. Let me know.

I saw this as well in the Bloodtide Coast map, guy just appeared at the node (which caught my attention because he didn’t run near me), cut the tree, then was gone before I could even click him.

Of course, I wouldn’t think to report it initially until the full behaviour was done. Then I remembered seeing this once before and reading another post about it. And by the time it strikes you as odd, they’re gone and you can’t remember the spelling of the name or which guild.

I’ve seen 2 other posts on this forum regarding this exact issue in the last week. 1 person fixed it by uninstalling and performing a fresh install of his video drivers, using the latest available. I saw one other more recently, but I can’t remember the outcome at the moment. I think a dev posted on it.

Search around, I know there were 2 separate posts about it. If you can’t find then and don’t get a response, check the sticky and submit a ticket.

Whatever your fix, please come back here and post it for others.

I know a couple peeps who would like to see fancier clothes for the ladies. But not anything like the showgirl starter armour for light clothies. Elegant, not flaunty… Or (sad to say this) kittenty…

I, as well as others I know, would love to see town clothes, and even better, armour skins for the ladies that looks reminiscent of mesmer armour from guild wars 1… I want to see Countess Anise’s clothes around… We can be everyone else practically, but we can’t get her outfit.

Anyway, just my .02¢ worth.

unlimited gathering tools

This is a bit disappointing. I know it’s my fault for not paying attention prior to buying it, but I didn’t realise it was soul bound on use either (unlike every other gathering tool in the game). I have 8 characters and was very excited to not have to keep a ton of picks around for each char (as with sickles and axes too). I could just switch this among them and never have to worry about moving to a new zone and having the wrong level pick on and accidentally destroying ore.

That’s why I bought this… One less thing to worry about. Even the advert says “never run out of mining picks again” I actually thought that truly meant never… Sucks, now I have to decide which character actually gets it

Great concept, account bound would’ve been brilliant though!

Can't Always Sell on Trading Post

Are you getting an error while selling (red text next to the sell button) or the continuous spinning gold circle at any time loading the trading post?

Have you tried any of the steps I’ve listed yet?

As I mentioned, on occasion, the tp plays up for me also, usually a client restart can fix it, but sometimes, it just won’t load and all one can do is wait it out.

Also, sometimes the game itself will block too many consecutive attempts to sell as a means to most likely prevent botting.

This is always an on and off issue with the tp. For me restarting the client helps, but on occasion, waiting it out is all that works. Sometimes just deleting the contents of one single folder fixes most t kitten ues (it fixed my inability to buy gems), you may want to read all steps, but try that one first.

I’ll post the list of basic troubleshooting steps for Mac, but if they don’t work, view the submit a ticket sticky and do so, then come back here with what did work for you. [length warning]

I’ve read some posts that t kitten ues may be caused by firewalls and/or anti virus programs. You may want to ensure that gw2 has exceptions made for those. You can troubleshoot by temporarily disabling these and try to recreate the issue (this includes router firewalls also).

Here is something to try if you are on a home/personal network, it will not work if it is a university or public connection, use the instructions or code 7.x:

I personally use QoS with priority set to high. Port forwarding requires static ip addresses.

Fixing gw2 steps:

1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.

2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…

3.) repair the client install

Open Terminal

Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.

3.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many t kitten ues, even without the previous steps

As a heads up, I don’t know anything about your system, but I found this post recently about a similar issue:

“Hey Guys,
I had a similar issue with crashing after hitting the play button. Like you, nothing appeared to have changed however the problem was tracked down to a program used with AMD radeon graphics cards called ASUS GamerOSD. Uninstalling this program fixes the problem.”

Maybe if anyone else has the issue and that first suggestion doesn’t work, maybe they have this problem.

I did find this post and although it is not the same issue, I wonder if it doesn’t possibly contribute to your issue as well. I found this on the “game won’t start” thread quoted as this:

I don’t know if this will help at all, but it’s worth a shot if Warder’s suggestion doesn’t fix your issue.

What is 60C, the GPU or the CPU? We need both temps to be certain it’s not heat. And we need to know which one is what temp.

After that, it’s possibly a hardware issue; faulty component or underpowered system due to inadequate power supply.

I understand. Have you filed that ticket yet?

Sometimes they’ve got just the thing, I mean, it’s not like anyone has ever said “code C0000005 is an error produced because x failed to y and therefore correcting z should help with that” I don’t think anyone other than Anet even knows what exactly that error even means.

It would be nice to get a list of those types of error codes and the basic cause of them, so we could be less helpless in finding a solution. Pc and Mac alike, the only answer for this one comes from them directly and I’ve not seen a solution here or anywhere else.

So, make a ticket, get the fix from them eventually, and repost that baby here to help others!!!! Good luck to you and hope it gets fixed soon.
