I thought the websites typically have those available? But I can’t be certain. You may be able to download and fresh install the newest version of direct x, but i haven’t tried this as I haven’t had any issues. Hopefully some else can drop a line with any other suggestions.

I do hope your problem gets resolved.

Sigh, I can reliably reproduce this on 2 different systems by doing it quickly, if no one else can, well that’s not going to help. Bummer. And I have zero problems on these systems, this s the only true crash I can cause or typically happens (other than the WvW crashes on the Mac). Thanks for trying.

For the proper application support folder to find the guild wars 2 folder, use this:

Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). I found this after googling:

http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models

After you use this, then navigate to the folder listed in my first troubleshooting step. If you have deleted some other guild wars 2 folder contents, please recover it from the trash.

For the command line to repair client, all dashes are regular dashes (-), if you see a long dash (—) it is in reality 2 dashes, please correct this prior to running the command.

{I really dislike that the forum is randomly changing two dashes to one long dash, it really complicates helping people}

-I should’ve noted about backing up any contents prior to deleting, my apologies for being so absentminded.

For the USE command, change the single long hyphen to 2 short hyphens(I tried to make that clear, but the forum keeps changing the thing to the long hyphen). It should look like it does following “GW2 – -” not — … 2 separate hyphens, repast and change the 2 before USE. (bahhhh stupid forum… There is no space between the 2 hyphens either, I put one here so you can see there are 2, how troublesome it keeps changing them /cry)

Sorry for any clarity on that, hope that helps this time.

Just to confirm, I didn’t find any other fixes than deleting the contents of the hidden folder for gw2 (location described above). The only other “fix” is to wait it out, it should start up again as traffic decreases. (can take a good while) That used to be my fix when I encountered these issues.

FYI, there has been a secondary update following the big patch already.

Again, let me know what worked if it does.

Sorry those didn’t help. I was having these issues during the last few major content updates, it would just randomly stop. Sometimes restarting the client worked, most times just waiting. I had zero issues downloading this today on 2 computers simultaneously. The only difference between then and now was some router settings.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

Follow the instructions for error code 7. I used QoS on my router because I have 3 comps running gw2. And port forwarding uses static ip addresses. It might help you too. I set my priority to high because gw2 was the only thing suffering on my network.

If these don’t work, I highly recommend a ticket. I noticed others on the pc forums having some issues with this too.

I’ll glance around the forum more and check if there were any other troubleshooting steps I may have forgotten and post those after. Please keep me updated if you can.

Try this:

You can try this and try reloading the client and see if it helps:

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client.

This is a general fix for most things. If that doesn’t help, try this:

repair the client install

Open Terminal
Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in too. (check the dash) Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)

Let me know if this works.

I’ve had this kind of issue in the past and waiting it out helped me then, as for now, it may or may not help. I didn’t have any issues and I am currently sitting in game.

I can’t imagine that it is my luck to have 2 completely different computers with completely different operating systems and specs to exhibit the exact same crashing behaviour with 2 very different outcomes, this has to happen to others, it can’t just be me. This takes literally under 2 mins to test and recreate.

There are multitudes of others posts, all saying the same 5 things and because I use one thread, it gets shoved to the bottom never to be seen. It’s Tuesday already, Monday blues should be gone lol.

Anyone else able to get this crash using the method I described? This crash will occur on a PC or a Mac, it’s the same steps either way. Thanks in advance.

So please, hear our voices too! Most of our issues are fixed by following one of 4 different steps, but whole client issues like this won’t get fixed unless someone hears or sees us waving our flag. At least let us know you hear us and that help will be on the way eventually. Thanks.

Kyllaa.1385

When did this start? It does seem like you are at the bare minimum specs to run the game, has it run well before?

I’ll post for you the basic troubleshooting steps since you didn’t list if you tried them or not.

1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.

2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…

3.) repair the client install

Open Terminal
Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in too. (check the dash) Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)

3.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one:

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client.

4.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket..

Let me know how it goes.

Honestly, in my opinion, forums aren’t the best way to get help, they are great if someone else had your problem and solved it, but otherwise, a personal solution via ticket is probably best. Really, you need to read the stickies and search the other posts here and dig deep for solutions. If you truly wanted help, you’d give details so others could help you, as described by Caed.

If you refuse to post exact details or fill out a ticket, run down the list of suggestions Caed listed (you can find how to do them by looking around this forum). And while you’re at it, check for updated video card drivers and updates for direct x (as the minor description you listed sounds graphical). Make sure your windows is also fully updated.

If those don’t work or you don’t care to try them, submit a ticket to the pros, but you have to be very specific, I’d read the sticky about submitting tickets too.

Lag on a laptop could be caused by several issues, including overheating. Overheating also can cause a battery to stop charging (since heat is generated by that as well). Typically, even without the unplug/plug in fix, it should resume charge once it cools a bit. Now your system may lag due to heat without actually shutting down; it only shuts down when it’s TOO hot to prevent damaging system components. Systems that come with a charger that can’t fully support the load of a completely taxed system tend to draw that power from the battery also, generating another source of heat… Laptops and the problems gaming on them lol. The only thing I know to help that is to buy a cooling pad that elevates the unit and has fans to help circulate the air underneath. Even without that, a laptop must be placed on a solid surface (never alone on a lap or pillow).

As for your drivers, I can’t comment on those, but I’ve seen that help others on here, so as a troubleshooting step, double check for a new update (some one recently said there was a new one for their vid card just a few days ago, so they can come out before you even realise). And I’ve seen a dev recommend checking for a direct x update as well. Updating is always worth a shot. If that doesn’t work, try rolling back your vid card drivers to the previous version available.

Do you think it could possibly be due to increased volume of players in these locations? I am finding them to be the most laggy and on a slower or choppier Internet connection, I can see this causing disconnects.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9245/kw/Lag

Maybe try a few steps from there for lag (traceroute, etc) and if that doesn’t turn anything up, try this:

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

I personally don’t use port forwarding since I have 3 computers running gw2 on my network, but QoS works beautifully for me (not all routers have QoS or port priority).

Yeah I read most of those in their entirety, but none seem to match this one. Otherwise, neither of my systems have any major crashing problems, let alone whole system lock ups. Ths isn’t even a kernel panic. Thanks for your input though.

Came back 3 hours later, turns out, I got the first one 56 mins after the first authorisation was sent, the 2nd one arrived about 35 minutes after the second was sent. Bummer. Judging by the Mac bug, it may very well be a graphical issue. I reproduced this again on the pc today just so I could view the report that gets sent to Anet and it mentions some graphical references, so, it’s definitely a graphical reference possibility.

Double click on taskbar

Kyllaa.1385

I remember this being an issue during the beta test and at the start (before Mac client). I in-game reported it then and thought it was fixed since I was able to pull the game up after minimizing without an issue before. I don’t remember if I single or double clicked it, but it definitely caused a huge crash on my boot camp system. Haven’t tested it since, but if it’s still there, that can’t be good.

(this never happened on my hubs pc running win7, 64bit, but I’m hesitant to test that crash on a system that isn’t mine, especially when I’ve crashed his gw2 multiple times reporting bugs lol)

Reporting bugs seems to crash my game...

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

So now I’m not sure if this is a game bug or a tech issue, but we’ve gotten no response either way. This is an issue for both pc and Mac, but the crash is more severe on the Mac.

To duplicate the crash (my findings):

File a bug report on a character, then hit esc to close any open panels on screen, hit esc again and choose logout, once on character select screen, quickly double-click to log onto a new character and voila, instant crash.

On pc, you get an option to send a report to Anet, then it closes the game recovering the system.

On Mac, the graphics will freeze (character idle movement stops), the music will continue to play until the end, the mouse will still be active. However, you can never leave this state, option+command+escape does not force quit, using the x does not close, cannot open any panels on the menu screen, command+tab doesn’t work, pressing the power button does not bring up the restart/shutdown/sleep dialogue box. The fans do spin down and system resource usage seems to return to the normal state while in this condition (according to external temp, fan sounds).

The only fix to recover on Mac is to hold the power button until a complete shut down occurs. Then restart.

The only way to avoid it, is to wait after submitting it, close each panel slowly, and don’t log out immediately… Wait!

I’m truly hoping someone could re-create this scenario and confirm it so that it can be fixed. I’ve done it multiple times on both PC and Mac.

Thanks for taking the time to review this.

Kyllaa.1385

I have now duplicated this issue. It occurs on both pc and Mac clients. It is however, more severe on the Mac client, for me anyway. I have only observed this in the last week or so, never had it happen before on either system, but 3 times in the last week. I have filed an in-game report for 2 of 3 occurrences. (post-recovery)

On both, if I fill out a bug report, then use esc to close each panel of the ui open (confirm bug report, esc to close bug report panel, esc to close hero panel or inventory, or any other open windows), if you logout of the character immediately after that and return to the character select screen, then immediately double-click to log on to another character, the crash occurs. If I wait several minutes, I have not had a crash.

On pc, I had it prompt me to send a crash report to Anet with any description I could offer, then closed the client. I was able to recover and launch the client again.

On Mac, it is a full system lock. Initially, the graphics freeze (character idle movement stops) and the music plays smoothly until it ends, then stops. The mouse continues to work, but nothing responds. You cannot close using the X, you cannot open any options panels, but worse yet, you cannot get out of this state. Option+command+esc does absolutely nothing (no emergency force quit), you cannot tab out, trackpad swipes don’t work, and pressing the power button to get the shutdown/sleep/restart dialogue box doesn’t work either. The thing I noticed also, is the system itself acts as if the game has shut down meaning it immediately starts cooling off and the fans spin down, demonstrating that the game is not using CPU/gpu resources, it just Crashes the system. The only way to recover is to power down holding the power button until it shuts off. Then restart it.

my specs are (for Mac) just in case:

MacBook pro 15inch, late 2011
2.2ghz intel core i7
8gb ram
Amd radeon hd 6750m 512mb
OsX lion 10.7.5 (all updates complete)

Please don’t refer me to the Mac forum as they are not supported any longer (still awaiting confirmation). And considering this is a pc and Mac issue, I see no problems posting this here. Besides, no one is reading the Mac forums, so it would never be seen there by Anet (over 4 months since official post, over 2 months since a community coordinator closed a single thread).

Just wanted to leave the details where others could see and hopefully prevent an issue for them. And maybe get a fix one day.

Thanks for reading this.

Game Client Lost its connection to server

Kyllaa.1385

Error code 7 is a typical error code for a disconnect. Here are some tips from Anet (it recommends port forwarding, but I personally use QoS, this has also helped with my lag significantly.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

You may also test this when you are having huge lag issues:

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9245/kw/Lag

It sometimes helps to determine the cause.

However, there have been reports from many players that code 7 has been occurring more frequently starting after the last minor patch this past week. I personally have not been disconnected, but had started experiencing extreme lag and input lag. Others reported this concurrently also. Mine cleared up roughly Wednesday night (Pacific time US), but is still occurring sporadically.

Try those steps, if you can’t stay connected, check the tech support forum for the sticky on submitting a ticket and then do so.

+ Also, be certain any and all firewalls, virus scanners, or port blockers are temporarily disabled to test if that is the cause sometimes, even modems/routers sometimes have them enabled by default and need exceptions made. Windows firewall is notorious for that stuff too, I think 64bit windows needs 2 exceptions for guild wars2.

Kyllaa.1385

Maybe just submit a ticket for yourself. At least then, you should almost definitely receive a response from a dev. Also, you may want to check any error logs (that’s how I found my problem), my error was generated by my comp, not Anet or game client.

Btw, I’ve never disconnected from any other game with my same setup, gw2 just didn’t handle the band change well. And oddly enough, it was only my laptop doing it. (hubs and I would play together and I would d/c, he wouldn’t) so 3 comps on my network running gw2, only mine disconnected. I even had my ISP out here 3 times and one phone call the guy got annoyed and hung up on me claiming “everything is fine.”

Took me 2 months to find the problem with zero support on the Mac client forum and another 2 weeks after the last player post, but I’m happy I triple checked everything… Twice!

[Possible length warning to help you]

I was having this issue too, but I fixed it. It was on my end. Now I don’t know anything about your system, laptop/pc, wired/wireless, location of modem/router, firewall or antivirus or none (remember, some modems and routers come with these enabled), if the wireless on your router is dual-band?

Yes, it’s possible that it might not be on your end, has anyone helped you troubleshoot this before? Have you submitted a ticket?

Have you done this? Code 7.x instructions:

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

I used QoS for mine and I don’t get random disconnects in WvW during intense battles. (only random crashes on huge zeros on occasion)

My major problem was my router and wireless card. It was magically changing from 5ghz, to 2.4ghz unexplainably and randomly. A name change for the SSID of each band to unique names fixed that for me.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9245/kw/Lag

On a day you’re having trouble staying connected, do the traceroute instructions, it could help you to determine your end or theirs. You should know what a good connection looks like by trying during a non-prime time also.

Example, I haven’t been having disconnects, but in the last week the lag had skyrocketed and input lag was up to 3-5 seconds, baddies would stop, then be on top of me and take 25% of my health before I knew what happened. I ran a traceroute and I saw Anet servers had over 600ms where normally (on a good day), they have no more than 75ms, sometimes ~150-300ms. I also observed along my route there were areas in the 300s. But 9:00pm one night (pacific time US), it just stopped! Not one hop over 50-75ms.

So details are needed from you. If you don’t even want to try, submit a ticket by following the sticky instructions.

I’ve mostly been playing my engi in ascalon recently and I’m having it there severely. It was consistently happening a few days ago just after the patch, but it’s gotten a little better for me since Wednesday/Thursday, but it is still happening on occasion.

I think we’re still waiting on word of these issues.

Snoringpiglet The folder contents you will be deleting are only a few mb, make sure the contents you are deleting are the ones that include “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few. If you see these, you’ve got the right one.

This folder contains most of the configuration details and settings for your client, therefore, it seems to reset them and give you a brand new fresh start. Some of your stuff is saved on the servers, but things like graphics settings will be reset… But since you haven’t played, I doubt that will affect you much. I know, new install shouldn’t need this, but hey, if you can play, why not. Hope it works out.

FriarTech, you could try to run the repair and see if that helps. If not, submit a ticket. I ’ll post the steps for you. Pasting from another thread, sorry for length.

Here are a few things to try:

1.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…

2.) repair the client install

Open Terminal

Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in too. (check the dash) Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though.

Delete the contents of that specific folder, then re-run the client.

If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket..

I just recently submitted an in-game bug report for this also. The footprints do face the correct direction if you are walking backwards.
