The Mac client isn’t necessarily a priority xaos.
That’s a bummer. I know there is a config file associated with the client that has a mouse sensitivity value, default is set at 1, I’ve considered messing with it, but I’m not sure if it will help. Maybe a dev will check in on this and possibly confirm.
I have to apologise that I don’t know exactly where this file is located on pc.
I absolutely agree Trog. A straight forward answer about the current status or “near” future updates would be fantastic. I’d truly love to know where we stand.
I won’t be ungrateful for the support Ashley is trying to give, just remember, a staff member is reading this finally.
Better than the support elsewhere, yesterday or so, I saw Jeremiah Lee (may have misspelled) give the pc-ers a set of instructions to clear the gw2 cache on windows to try and help repair a wonky tp…so I casually asked “How could we do this on Mac?” he said in a few more words, “submit a ticket.” most Mac users’ questions are just ignored there.
Please, update us on the status of the Mac client!!!! Is it going anywhere? Should we expect any updates or bug fixes any time soon? Will there ever be anything other than this beta client (native client)? Anything? Will the mac client start receiving regular support again?
Thanks for keeping us informed Ashley, it’s very much appreciated.
Very understandable. The level of Mac support is a bit frustrating. We even had a Mac user given instructions on how to run game advisor for windows… Duh!
Most of us would love to see some genuine support. As appreciative as I am of Ashley and her keeping tabs on this forum, it’s not Anet fully supporting us or even making progress toward a permanent client. I’m a really happy to know that one of our awesome tech support staff (Ashley) is actually reading this forum again and helping us get some support…it would just be really nice to see the rest of the company on board and backing her up. Thank you for that again Ashley!
But I understand how you feel aigisthos, really hoping to hear some news soon.
Still awaiting a fix or even news about the investigation into the matter. Le sigh.
(posting this in both places until someone else can help better than I) So the box is open, finishes downloading, the box itself disappears, then reappears, then disappears again and that’s it, right?
It’s a little tough to figure out what’s going on exactly. 1. You may want to try running a repair of the client (create a new shortcut of the guild wars 2 exe file and append " -repair" without the quotes to the shortcut path, then use that shortcut to start the game once). 2. You could uninstall and reinstall the latest drivers for your video card, make sure direct x is completely up to date, and ensure you have run and completely installed all of the windows updates (even the seemingly insignificant ones). 3. Make sure you don’t have an antivirus or firewall blocking the program from running. 4. Run msconfig and temporarily disable all startup programs, restart the computer, the try loading gw2 again… If it works, run msconfig again, enable 1 program, restart, try gw2 again. If it stops working again, that’s the program causing an issue. 5. Deleting the local.dat file under /my documents/guild wars 2, then reload the client.
These are a few options you can try until someone else chimes in with better help. These are some of the easier fixes that I know of for random “game not working issues.”
I hope something helps, if not, I hope someone with better knowledge comes on. Also, if nothing helps, post your system specs for other peeps to see. If something does, post what fix worked for you. Good luck friend.

Anthony, could you post your system specs please? And list any other symptoms that occur prior to the crakitten might also be helpful if you check your crash logs in console to see if any errors/events correspond with the times you crash. (I found the source of my constant code 7 disconnects that way and haven’t had it since… Unless the server has gone down or lagged out lol)
It seems so. I wish we could get that too, it would eliminate us having to repost the same things over and over (if it was stickied, we could just use a link that never gets old and never dies lol).
We do have a lot of people who end up in the wrong application support folder due to the hidden library thing and not being able to alt/option + click things (that’s why I post the one with photos), it does seem confusing to a person if they aren’t too familiar… I tested it on a fairly computer illiterate friend lol. She wouldn’t even let me talk when I sent her the link with pictures so she could do it right without needing her hubs. So it seems so. Maybe you could make a photo to post. We could start a troubleshooting thread with photos to help others. What do you think?
Right, so what disappears, the client box or the download bar?
Ooh! I’ll have to try that next time my tp stops working. Thanks for posting that.
Are you referring to the download bar or the launcher? Could you get a screenshot?
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
What disappears? Could you post a screenshot of what you see?
Your folder is hidden and you’re in the wrong one because of it. Try step 4 in this list, if that doesn’t help, go to step 5 next. Or start from 1, but I don’t think you’ll need that. Follow up if it works for you please. Read step 4 COMPLETELY!
Length warning!!!
1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.
2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…
3.) repair the client install
Open Terminal
Type the following:
/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair
You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.
4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp issues, even without the previous steps
Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)
/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2
You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.
Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..
~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:
http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models
Others claim alt+clicking a file/folder unhides the contents, but that was never successful for me. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.
5.) check support.mac.com for instructions on how to reset your pram and smc.
6.) If none of this works, check the sticky and submit a ticket, then please come back here and report the fix that worked for you.
Lol, it came out while I had a ton going on and never got around to it… Then I was worried I would lose functionality of a few of my programs that I don’t have disks for any longer… I wanted to upgrade for gw2, but hubs tried to convince me otherwise (he has 10.8 on his MBPr and it runs gw2 beautifully). Anyway, yeah, 10.7 has problems relinquishing “inactive” memory for the gw2 client… I was trying to hold out for non-beta ;p
Have you tried modifying the mouse speed via the mouses control app? Some brands will allow you to set different setting for different applications, including games, that work only while that application/game is running. It’s worth a shot anyway. Post back if that helps or not, maybe someone else will have a thought.
Did you check your GPU temp specifically? For the kind of fps dips/lag/stuttering you’re describing, GPU heat is typically the culprit. But give us an update after you clean out the vents and such internally.
Lol, I’m still in 10.7 <.< I was hoping our client would continue to work with that for a bit, or we get a better client
Poor girl, her bum cheek is hanging out. And honestly, I think the skin colour looks fine, very natural.
That was going to be my next suggestion for michelleb. If you still have issues after that, post back and I’ll post the rest of the troubleshooting bits for you.
Lol Trog! Well played!
Good questions. I’m sure these are burning questions on many of the Mac users minds. It would be fantastic if we could get news on this.
I <3 being able to play on my Mac os and I tend to have minimal issues (nothing I can’t fix… Normally), but a native client would be even more awesome
At least bug fixes lol ;p
You also can’t really compare gw2 to other games in performance and system load, gw2 is a resource hog and generates a lot of heat. If you’re on a laptop, after cleaning it as ilithis mentions, you may want to pick up a laptop cooler with a couple fans. Helps mine a smidge and it’s an MBP with no vents underneath, it elevates and helps dissipate the heat that builds up underneath.
Also, just to confirm, are you getting any error codes with this freeze? Or just lag/stutter, then lock up? Any full system shut downs (on it’s own)? You may also want to check your crash logs and such, but it does, at a surface glance, sounds like overheating.
We’ve getting some updates on the Mac forum here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Error-confirming-purchase-of-gems/first#post2228804
Of course, there is nothing today regarding our issue… They did suggest if you need gems now, to use a windows client (either via pc or bootcamp). Not ideal, I know, but it’s all they’ve got. There was some mention of buying a gem card, but I haven’t tested that so I can’t confirm if that works.
I would love to see some progress too considering this has been in effect for over 4 days now (since extended billing maintenance on 6/12).
Just wanted to post a link to a thread regarding this issue on the Mac forum. Seems we’re still waiting on a fix.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/mac/Error-confirming-purchase-of-gems/first#post2228804
This seemed to be a problem yesterday for many peeps including myself. (sorry I didn’t see this then, we were discussing it on the Mac forum) I hope you got this fixed yesterday, but if not, I’ll post for you.
For me, I just restarted my client 10 times or so and it worked… The lazy fix! But others used this: (read it completely)

Hope this worked for you if you didn’t already get a fix. Post back if you need anything else.
Please post your system specs. This may be something as simple as drivers, but knowing what peeps are dealing with makes finding a fix easier. There are also issues with control apps associated with certain vid cards.
Is there a way to clear this cache on Mac?
Sometimes the tp seems to quit if you open and close it several times in a short amount of time. It sometimes dies when you zone into different areas, but many times, it will die once you hit LA. It’s a buggy little bit, sometimes, it will come back after awhile all on its own. Inconvenient if you need it now though. The only instant fix is restarting the client sadly.
Some peeps buy gems to buy gold lol.
Not too many have had great success with that. It is possible if you have a remapping program for the buttons. On pc, I know xpadder is one. I have never used one for Mac though. The reason doing so may be difficult is because there are so many keys to use on the comp (1-0, jump, F, all the buttons to open different panels and switch weapons…h, o, b, g, I, y, esc, ~, plus movement keys and strafe, f1-f4, some targetting key). At minimum, that’s 26 unique keys, more if you play an ele or some other profession that uses multiple F# keys like ranger, engi, warrior, guardian… You get it.
So, it’s possible, there was a thread on the tech forum awhile back about someone who got it working. You could always look into different controller mapping apps and try it out.
If you do find one that works out, could you please post back here for other players who may want to try this as well?
Here’s the basic rundown of why it works better on bootcamp:
The game is a native windows program that runs using direct x, therefore, the game requires HALF of the minimum system requirements for windows (Mac requires 4 gb ram & windows only needs 2gb min). The Mac client is a cider wrapper/port so you have to run one piece of software (cider) just to run the second (gw2) while “emulating” a direct x environment… So it’s much harder on your Mac system.
Also, on windows, all of the graphics settings are enabled, while on Mac high res character textures is disabled as well as some higher performance settings.
In general, the pc client requires much less in terms of ram and processor, therefore, your performance will be much better there versus fighting to get by on the Mac client with min specs.
I haven’t run my of client (bootcamp) on my system since the Mac client launched, but I remember the graphics were prettier and smoother, and with the recent optimisations made, I can only imagine them being better now than before. (especially considering the graphical improvements we’ve seen on the Mac client)
Hope that helps until someone who has run bootcamp lately can chime in. (MBP late 2011, 2.2ghz intel core i7 and 8gb ram, amd radeon hd 6750m with 512mb)
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Thanks Gillo! I’m glad that our posts on this forum have helped you get acceptable performance from your Mac client! It really makes me happy to be able to help others here. Any time you have an issue you can’t find an answer to, just post a new thread with as much detail as possible and several of us can usually come up with a solution, except in the case of a coding bug… We’ll just keep you updated.
Thanks again for the kind words
You most likely only need step 4, but just in case, I’ll post all troubleshooting instructions. It’s long, but read 4 completely anyway. Please post back what fix worked for you.

To open terminal, start by opening Finder go to the Applications folder, the find the Utilities folder under there. Within Utilities, you find Terminal and Disk Utility (for repairing permissions). Once you have terminal opened, follow the instructions I posted in an above post, where you copy and paste a line of text into terminal…please read the instructions carefully as these forums change a crucial set of dashes to only one dash.
Let me know if you need any further help.
This just happened to me, I restarted the client about 10 times and it worked finally lol. I was being lazy.
Do you mean like suppressed due to spamming too many messages in too short a time? Or like “GF” means something offensive and you get reported?
Anytime, hopefully we’ll get a fix soon
And here is an additional reply to that for anyone interested (I shared this on the Mac forum)
“Thank you for getting back to us on this issue. Believe me, we are not trying to be insulting. We just want to offer any alternatives we can think of until Arenanet gets this issue fixed. I can assure you that it is being tracked and worked on and we will contact you once we get it taken care of. "
So hopefully it won’t take too long, I try to keep the faith and stay positive
I’m not sure if that post is referring to your local.dat file, but that is under /my documents/guild wars 2 I believe, otherwise, I have no idea on windows lol. We don’t typically have driver issues or anything like that… And even still we only have several fixes available to us ;p
I do hope you figure out what’s wrong, if not, check the sticky and submit a ticket.
My mouse sporadically drops out for a few seconds and comes back. There is a thread about wireless mouses out there somewhere, but I’m certain you’re not having that issue.
There is a “known” bug that occurs randomly though, where your mouse will still be present, still interacts with the UI, but stops interacting with the environment. It tends to occur right after zoning or using a waypoint, but can really start anytime. The only fix is to restart the client.isthat what you have Lyn?
We had a thread about that some time ago, but nothing came of it. I’ve also posted several in-game reports.
It doesn’t occur as often for me now, but does still once a month or so.
Hmm, when did this awesome symptom start for you? What graphics settings do you use?
Personally, I have noticed some graphic improvements (fps in particular) recently… I noticed some (meaning not all) stutter much less than they used to, but I noticed some of that about a month ago or so. I always watch for it because I tested one of the config file mods some time back, but I didn’t like the results despite less stutter since I could accomplish it by turning down in-game settings. Next time I try a vista again, I’ll make note if it was one that had noticble stutter in the past.
I did that already and everything else I list for fixes. I went through the whole routine myself to be certain. I walked a friend through as well as received feedback from another player on here. So no, it didn’t work. I did what I could, even poked around the config file and the contents of the app file with nothing feasible to work out.
We’re just stuck waiting for the billing maintenance team to figure out what they broke or figure out why the cider port hates what they “fixed” lol. And maybe they’ll get a patch to us that won’t… Break… anything else. Lol, I’m just hoping it’s soon, it would be nice to see a Mac bug fixed (any Mac bug) in a timely manner.
Try this! French, German, or wait it out.
Lol! I did see another player using PayPal also receive an error, a different one, but still. Just FYI ;p
Oh, I got a response back from support after I noted how the Mac client barely supported, bugs have gone for months unfixed, and how offering windows as a solution is insulting. I’ll post the meat and potatoes of the message just so everyone knows where we stand.
“Thank you for getting back to us on this issue. Believe me, we are not trying to be insulting. We just want to offer any alternatives we can think of until Arenanet gets this issue fixed. I can assure you that it is being tracked and worked on and we will contact you once we get it taken care of.
Thank you again for the feedback."
So, I’ve made many of our concerns apparent in my email and stated how “beta” implies one actively working on bugs and trying to elevate beyond beta status, etc. this was my response. I don’t know where that leaves us in the grand scheme though. I really just wanted our voices heard. I wonder where we’ll be after this o.O
Anyway, just wanted to share this with the maccies so everyone understands the status of our newest bug. Let’s hope for progress toward our client next!
I think they aren’t offering them anymore since that event is over.
Are you on a Mac?
If so, https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/tech/Cannot-purchase-Gems/first#post2219555
Try this! French, German, or wait it out.
Trog, I have spent the last hour replying to my ticket saying nearly the same thing. I mean I finally have the ear of a support staffer, I’m going to use it! After reading someone else’s post yesterday about “use windows” I almost didn’t believe it, but my first thought was “what an insult to those who purchased the Mac client exclusively.” I shared this with my friend and she was ticked, to say it nicely, and agreed that it was insulting. I included just those words in my message back.
Now I want a real update again and not just a time wasting statement about our status. Maybe it’s time for a new thread regarding “We Want Answers”
