FYI, you can still get the kites, they come back. And the only thing that counts is opening the 2 bags from the kites, not the kites themselves.
Possibly a repair of the client? Confirm running as admin? Really not sure here either, have never seen this error. A ticket may definitely be in order.
What video card though? I only see a CPU listed.
I find gw2 uses about ~1.5gb on my MBP… Give or take a bit at times. But again, that’s Mac…the wrapper takes more lol.
(at times it’s up to ~1.98gb, this seems to be more he norm lately)

Fantastic! Keep us up to date if you have any further issues.
Try to export your crash log as a .txt file and attach it using more posting & formatting options below.
Look under my documents/guild wars 2, arenanet.log.
No worries, post back if you have any further issues.
Try it out with your upgrade, if it’s still crashing, do me a favour and check your CPU and GPU temps. Istat is a free widget you can use.
Perhaps you could consider lowering game resolution if you are still having issues? (was just looking up some stuff on your video card, not sure if it will help or not)
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Some people seem to have some fps drops others have crashes. It doesn’t seem consistent across the board though o.O
No worries about the most recent crash, what you posted has more than enough data lol.
With your game install, it’s okay to copy/paste the gw2.dat file from one comp to another. As a good practice, it’s great to keep a backup of it, this way, if you need to download again, you won’t have to download the complete ~17.5gb file again. However, you should download a fresh installer, let it install, then once it has started to download the rest of it. Close it, paste your gw2.dat file overwriting the new one, then load the client again. It should scan this new dat file, then proceed to only download new updates and misc files.
You should always run the client as administrator.
Btw, have you tried running a repair?
Post back and let me know.
I forgot to ask about your drivers, have you tried the latest version yet?
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
I unlocked the radiant bracers on a necromancer and when I preview them, it says heavy class. Luckily, I chose them for a guardian, but still, what if I wanted them on a clothy also… Just seems a little weird.
Ricky, have we looked at your GPU and CPU temps yet?
If not, let’s do that. Get the temps while running gw2, preferably just before your system lags 20 minutes in the hole. (but definitely after running the game about 15 minutes)
If you don’t have one, I highly recommend this piece of free software. It helps diagnose issues well.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Post a screenshot of that after running the game for about 15 minutes. A tad sooner if your system is spent by 15 minutes.
First thing we need to do is see what these errors are! When these crashes occur, you should view the details before closing and find out what went wrong. Could you please post your crash log or if you can’t find that one, post the arenanet.log. (my documents/guild wars 2) If you can export as a .txt, you can attach it using more posting and formatting options below the input box. (then you won’t have to copy and paste segments and miss vital info)
Don’t assume it’s hardware failure yet!
Please post the rest of your specs, particularly, CPU, GPU, free hard drive space.
What kind of Internet connection are you on? (private/home or public/university)
I’ll post what I found regarding this issue, but as a note, they recommend port forwarding, I personally use QoS. But if you are on a public connection, you may need a VPN if the first suggestion in the post doesn’t work. Might was well try it! Let me know how you go.
I’m not sure if this is still current, but it is from the gw2 support page:
"
Error Code 58 x x x x
(example – 58:11:2:1064:101)
“The game client was unable to connect to the log-in server. Please restart your client and try again. If the problem persists, contact Customer Support for assistance at http://support.guildwars2.com.”
If restarting the client does not resolve the issue, please follow the direction below to create a new shortcut:
Navigate to your Guild Wars 2 folder.
Right-click on the file GW2.exe and select Create Shortcut.
Right-click the file Gw2.exe – Shortcut and select Rename.
Rename this file to Guild Wars 2 NewAuth.
Right-click on the file Guild Wars 2 NewAuth and select Properties
Locate the Target line and add the following:
For NA players, add: “-authsrv 64.25.38.54” (no quotes)
For EU players, add: “-authsrv 206.127.159.107” (no quotes)
Your target line will look something like this: C:\Games\GW2\Gw2.exe -authsrv xx.xx.xxx.xx
Click Ok to save your changes.
Once completed, double click Guild Wars 2 NewAuth to start connecting to the server. Should you continue to experience error 58, you may need to configure your router for port forwarding.
Guild Wars 2 requires TCP ports 80, 443, 6112 and port 6600 be fully unrestricted and accessible, both inbound and outbound. For further information about opening ports or port forwarding, you can visit the following website: http://www.portforward.com Please note, this site is not affiliated with or supported by NCSOFT or ArenaNet.
If you are connecting to Guild Wars 2 while on a campus, military, or business network, please check with your network’s administrator to verify that these ports are fully opened and unrestricted. If you are on a home Local Area Network (LAN), you will want to make sure that your network’s hardware is properly configured.
"
I thought that was normal, lol, that’s probably why I completely missed it.
These numbers aren’t that bad! But keep in mind, your connection routes through Washington, Atlanta GA, and Texas, these are high population nodes and you are going to see residual latency there. However, it seems your connection goes through multiple ip hops per node, each hop is a potential packet loss hole. Luckily, your numbers are’t that bad, wait until they say 300+ms, then you’ll see wicked lag lol.
Fraco, have you figured out how to find your info to post on a ticket? And has your lag lessened with the recent updates?
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
It shouldn’t.
Did you try step 2 with disk utility?
Also, please post your system specs and which Mac you play on.
Gw2 doesn’t always play nice with overclocked CPUs either though.
Which error messages?
A couple thoughts to try:
Delete the local.dat file under my documents/guild wars 2.
Make sure you are running the client as administrator (always).
Make sure you don’t need drivers specific to your laptop and make sure all windows updates are complete, even the optional ones.
The error you’re getting is a denied access, so if running as admin doesn’t help (leave it enabled regardless), try disabling any antivirus/firewall software and try the game again.
Please post back with any results.
Where are they? When did you first install? And what kind of problems are you having tht you need to reinstall?
You can try guesting on another server (lower population preferred), if it lets you log in, move your char and log out elsewhere, you can then move back to your server. It’s temporary and free to guest.
FYI, LA is one of THE worst places to log out (leave a char camped) due to the possibility of high populations.
Sometimes, it can take up to 5 minutes (or more) to get into LA depending on many factors. I have ~8 characters and I sometimes leave one in LA, all of them log in relatively quickly (under a min, unless sparkfly fen, wayfarer, blazeridge steps, queensdale, etc during a world event) until I get to the LA one, then I usually walk away, get a drink, come back because depending on if new content is out or a holiday or time of day, I know I’ll wait over a minute to get in on her.
I hope this helps with some perspective, but let me know if guesting works (no one ever comes back to confirm if that works or not).
It would look a lot smoother and hopefully less choppy when you are moving about. 30fps is very playable, 50fps looks more stunning to the eyes. (just a small opinion of someone who gets 50fps very rarely lol, usually ~30)
I’m not sure why your browser would crash from running the gw2 installer.
Are you using the run button right through your browser? If so, try locating the installer, then run the installer as administrator. It shouldn’t need a browser at all, except to log in and get it from your account page. After that, it’s pretty stand alone.
Post back and let us know how you go… If no luck, please post your system specs, especially CPU, GPU, ram, os, hard drive space available.
I’m on a Mac and I watch my memory usage like a hawk (without lasers lol) because when I had 4gb, I had huge fps dips with lag and stutter. I thought I was overheating, but then I found that gw2 uses a ton of memory. And on top of that, my os doesn’t like to relinquish the inactive memory that was used, but isn’t being used currently (just in the off chance it may need it again). So I started using a purge command to flush my memory and just use the bare min. If I didn’t do this roughly every hour, I would run out of memory (with about 10mb left for my system to actually use) and my game would nearly freeze and would be like a slide show.
I’ve since upgraded to 8gb (on a 64bit os of course) and although my system is still selfish with the memory, I never go below 3gb of available memory. I don’t need to purge anymore, but I still do for optimal performance.
However on windows, 2gb is the min requirements for gw2… Maybe more virtual memory allotment could help?
During my time in AU, I rarely had to buy computer equipment, my hubs did, but we only really knew Melbourne area. If you’re around Melbs and wish to know the shop, I’ll find out for you.
If you know any local computer shops with peeps who specialise in refurbishing computers, they may be able to point you in the right direction if they won’t sell to you direct. (I know some areas are pretty spotty with ability to find things, but if all else fails, try to search online and see if any AU online merchants sell over the net…for reasonable shipping lol, rather than from US)
Techbuy.com.au carries the stuff Abomally recommended.
mwave.com.au seems to have better prices, my hubs purchased a custom built comp through them a little over a year ago, no complaints.
Megabuy.com.au has a small selection.
Pccasegear.com was recommended highly online. Seems to have a good selection.
You won’t be able to find this stuff in places like office works, kitten smith, or jb hifi though, you needs specialty places that carry computer parts of all kinds, not just basic vid cards, ram, and hard drives.
Let us know how you go and what you decide to do. (better to have a working and safely functional pc than to be annoyed with extra work imho)
Does you computer use hot corners? Or any software that utilises the corners for some function?
Could you post a screenshot of what you mean?
I take it that disabling those softwares didn’t help?
Please tell us what kind of Internet you have and how you’re connected (as asked above).
Also, as a reference for you:

(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Hey, just a heads up, most peeps aren’t trolling here and those who are, typically don’t get to do it for long, so… You’re safe from that threat however, welcome to the game!
One note about download speeds. Most ISPs provide your speeds in Mbps which is megabits per second, guild wars lists download speeds in KBps and MBps, which is kilobytes per second and megabytes per second. So a 15mbps download gives you roughly a max download of 1.875 MBps speed through gw2 (1920KBps). Bytes are bigger than bits. So, 400KBps isn’t ideal, but it could be much worse… But moving on.
Now, to test how well your download is going, you’ll want to find the gw2.dat file. Once this file is complete, it will be roughly ~17.5GB in size. Therefore, this allows you to truly see progress or not. (FYI, if ever needing to reinstall, you can backup this file to prevent having to redownload in the future). EDIT: if your friend is local, you can get a copy of his gw2.dat file on an external hard drive or something and overwrite your partially completed file with his complete file, then only have to download the updates and misc files after.
As for the client, when the client is shut down properly (manually) while downloading, then restarted, it will quick-scan the file and pickup right where it left off, but the client shows a bar that looks like it starts from scratch every time. However, if the client or computer crashes or the computer gets shut down improperly (ex is a power outage while downloading or kicking the cable out), this is where issues arise… The .dat file may not have a proper checkpoint or becomes “corrupted” and it will have to start over. The only way to be certain, is to watch the actual .dat file size.
Typically, screen locks and such are enabled under power settings or power saving features, but could also be under security settings. Usually, it will ask for a password after returning from screen saver. The smart thing is to temporarily disable all power saving features (no shut down hard disk, no screen saver, no powering down of network cards, etc) and just use the good old fashioned power button on your monitor (or dimmer on a laptop). Sometimes, you have to dig deep into these features and settings to get it all right.
Post back and let us know how you go.
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Could you please post your complete system specs?
Please post your system specs. (particularly CPU, GPU, ram, os)
Sometimes, these settings are a delicate balance between performance and quality and you have to fiddle around with different settings to get desired (or at the very least acceptable) performance/appearance.
Plus, depending on vid card, you may want to make sure that any video card control software is set to application controlled. But still, post your specs.
I’m not entirely sure, but are you able to disable one of your vid cards? However, considering this seems like a laptop, I would imagine it is using one or the other, but not both.
You may need to load into the bios to disable one card or force your comp to use the better of the 2. The 7520 seems to be an integrated card, so you may want to force the system to use the 7610M. This setting could be under some video card software that came with the comp (or catalyst), or power saving features, or the bios.
It just seems like your system is unable to keep up with the demands of gw2.
Considering this is a laptop, you will definitely want to verify your system temps while running. I’ll link a nice piece of free software for you, please post a screenshot after running the game for about 10-20 minutes.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
Also, quick question, have you ever gotten this game to run well on this system? Or is this the first time trying?
Lastly, verify that all graphics card drivers are up to date.
Let me know how you go with checking the vid card and temps.
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
Perhaps you should open a ticket with support, maybe there is something they could recommend for you that players can’t. Please, if you do, post back and let us know if they help you find a fix or not and what it is. In case anyone else experiences this.
You may want to include the screenshot of your system running the game for temps.
(edited by Kyllaa.1385)
You’ll want to check the temps of your CPU and GPU to be certain you’re not overheating.
http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
That is a nice free piece of software that is great for troubleshooting. Post a screen shot of your temps while running gw2 for about 15 minutes.
Great point doom! Thanks for mentioning that!
Please post your complete system specs. It could be possible that you are below min requirements and it’s not passing the startup self-check.
User name is almost always your registered email address. If you just can’t get it, file a support ticket so they could help you out. It might be something beyond changing password. You may want to also post any error codes you are getting specifically when you try logging in.
Please post your system specs, Internet type (private/home or public/university), wired or wireless connection, and what error code(s) you are receiving.
Also, be certain to run the game as administrator always and make sure you make exceptions for gw2 on your antivirus/firewall software and on any security settings on your modem/router. Or temp disable those and try the game, then let us know how you go.
Interesting post Ricky!
I played throughout the day today and had some minor lagging, but nothing game breaking. At one point it got a little sketchy, I watched groups hop across the screen around 3pm (us server), but it cleared up again a few minutes later. So I can honestly say that I’m not being affected the same way you guys are. My ISP routes through Chicago, to Texas, to Anet (major hub regions) and it is not on the list above.
Just wanted to add further perspective from someone not experiencing the significant difficulties the rest of you are.
At a glance, your CPU seems to be running a tad hotter than recommended. Max is 71.4C and it seem you are significantly over this at times. And I wonder what TMPIN0 is, that bugger is boiling water at times.
There also seems to be some odd power fluctuations, especially on your CPU.
I’m hoping someone else could pop in here for a second opinion since I haven’t fussed with a power supply in some time… But to me, it looks like one of those 2 components is playing up on you. Which would be my suspicion for your crashing.
This game is a huge resource hog, it’s almost unfair to compare it to other games for that reason.
However, I don’t know if you’re overheating, can you post a screenshot of that app so I can see your temps maxed out?
Also, if you are overheating, shutdown your computer, open the case and give it an awesome cleaning. Make sure your heatsinks and fans are gunk free and get all of those hidden dust bunnies out. Make sure all fans are running well too. And it never hurts to reseat with thermal paste.
Either way, let’s see one of those screen shots!
Try running a repair on the client. Create a new shortcut for gw2.exe, rename it for repair, right click on it and go to properties. Find the target path usually ends with …gw2.exe" after the last quotation mark and this exactly SPACE DASH R E P A I R (or " -repair" without the extra quotation marks) so your path will now end like this …gw2.exe" -repair
Click OK to save, the run this shortcut.
After it completes, play the game and let us know how you go.
Side note:
If you ever have to re-install the game, you can make an external (or separate) backup of the ~17.5gb gw2.dat and save it elsewhere. After you get the client to install and after it starts its mega download, close the client, then paste this backed up gw2.dat file over the new one and overwrite it. Then load the client again. It should only have to download any updates and smaller misc files. Sometimes this helps with the painful reinstall unless this file is the problem.
That would’ve been my suggestion too. Let us know how you go.
That’s interesting muscula. It seems to be a different issue though.
Check your task manager after it (the launcher) disappears to see if gw2 is still running. But also, please post your complete system specs for us.
You can try deleting the local.dat file under my documents/guild wars 2 and see if that helps.
If you could post a screenshot, that would be great. And if the local.dat doesn’t work, post back with that screenshot and the rest of your system specs (especially your CPU and ram, plus os). Maybe others will be able to pop in and help too.
I get this many times in the shiverpeaks locations, especially Timberline Falls and Lornar’s Pass. Usually, if I turn off depth blur, this fuzzy image goes away instantly. It usually occurs just after I waypoint to a new location or waypoint rez on the current map.
I’m on a Mac though.
Yay!
How much CPU usage? How many cores?
Typically mine hovers around 95-100% (roughly 1 of 4 cores worth of usage) for the login window.
Well, at least you seemed to have fixed the local.dat error.
Btw, the temps posted, we’re they for GPU or CPU? (curiosity)
Also, maybe check your crash logs or arenanet.log files under my documents/guild wars 2. Or your system event viewer for corresponding items.
