Have you explored the WvW areas? Eternal bg and all 3 borderlands? (I want to guess you did since you have 100% skill challenges)

Also, on your world map, you can mouse over each zone name to view its completion. If you haven’t gone back to re-explore the newly released content, you would definitely be missing several waypoints, several poi’s.

Several new bits include a new poi in DR, guild challenge locations in plains of Ashford and I forget the 2nd location, cragstead and Nolan hatchery just to name a few.

Mail Problems

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

You guys have to remember 1 thing about “full mailbox” issues and not receiving new mails. In-game mails from Anet (not hearts, explore, personal story, or new dungeon emails, they don’t count) count toward the quota and don’t always show up as counted in the 10/10. For example, if someone got a free gift from Anet ever or purchased a free item from the gem store, like the gw2 hat that was available after launch, but never took them from their inbox, this item counts towards their quota, but never got counted.

The solution is to just delete ALL EMAIL, (especially any that have an envelope icon, as opposed to a heart or green star) so their mailbox is empty. Typically queued emails will start to show up as those 10 mails are deleted.

This happened to me, I had 3/10 but wasn’t getting any mails from anyone. Even money and items sent weren’t showing up until I deleted several emails that didn’t look like they’d count toward that quota, including gem store purchases and free gifts. Suddenly, I had about 30 emails queued that started coming in as I deleted each one.

any lag issues been fixed by support help?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

This doesn’t seem specifically related to a Mac, but there are so many reasons to experience lag that it is very difficult to troubleshoot and fix one specific cause. Someeeps issues get fixed, but again, not all, especially considering how many causes of lag there are.

This page details some specifics for port forwarding which could help with disconnects, code isn’t important, but the 4 ports listed are. FYI, I use QoS rather than port forwarding since I have 2 macs and 1 pc that run gw2 and it works fine for us, no lag unless our connection bugs out or someone tunnels with a VPN.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

You can test your lag while playing by following the instructions here, both Mac and pc instructions are listed, just click the links on the page for lag/latency:

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/9245/kw/Lag

Also, some have mentioned that some versions of windows don’t like to play nice with Internet connection sharing causing lag for others on the network, but I can’t confirm this nor explain why.

There have also been reports on the tech support forum of lag issues all around for many, one person posted an image of recent hack attacks which could potentially disrupt Internet connectivity if your connection routes through these areas.

Time of day and routing node population could affect lag (I know it affects mine during prime time Internet usage hours) and latency. Chicago, dc, texas, so cal… All of these areas are extremely high population node regions and if you route through any of them, you may have lag. Level 3 networks are very troublesome.

Overheating can create perceived lag. Verify your CPU and GPU temps whie experiencing lag. If using Mac, try istat. If using pc, this software is fantastic: http://www.cpuid.com/softwares/hwmonitor.html
It also helps troubleshoot hardware a bit and power supply issues.

If you connect wirelessly, this could cause connection lag due to random interference of wireless signals from all sorts of sources.

As for anyone else experiencing lag, I tend to observe more lag just after a new content release and on occasion during prime times. I’ve been having more fps dips in the last week or so, but I can’t say this isn’t because we just had a nasty heat wave. But something it’s due to the latest update, who knows… I’m just monitoring to see how it goes.

Hopefully something here helps you too.

That’s odd, you may want to change your password or setup the authenticator (if you have a compatible device). I believe you can use your account management page o view recent connections to your account, haven’t tried in awhile so I can’t quite remember, but I thought it would show active logins as well and from what ip they are logged in from.

Is there a way to ping servers?

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

If you type /ip you can get your servers’ ip address, then you can use that to run a traceroute in your preferred program. I’ve also seen others using the active tcp/ip connections in windows for that.

That’s what I was thinking too, you just can’t be too careful when dealing with your guild influence lol. Especially for us small guilds!

If your buddy was also guesting still, you guys may want open a ticket regarding this issue (one from each of you, even the guys who did get the points), this way, it’s guaranteed to be read and possibly even replied to by Anet staff. I don’t know if they can or will do anything, but at least make sure this issue is known and possibly gets fixed sooner rather than later. Support it with screenshots of your influence from completing the dungeon with 5 guildies and only 3 of 5 receiving the influence (influence tab screen) commendation bit.

Good luck guys!

2 suggestions, Anet recommends the sit and wait approach, after about 10-20 minutes, the alternate downloader is supposed to kick in and finish the download, some have experienced much longer waits… Up to overnight plus a few hours on the extreme.

Another option, change the language in the top right corner to French or German (not Spanish), wait for download to finish, then switch it back to default.

Shiverpeak Explorer Bug

I can’t remember which zone, but one of the shiverpeaks areas has a “cave” near a grawl area, you can’t go in unless grawl is your sympathetic race, but you can run up to the wall blocking the cave and uncover it. I believe it’s in a north easterly area of the map for that particular zone. (probably 40-50 ish zone, maybe Dredgehaunt)

FYI, the explorer achieves (not map completion) relies mostly on the white text regions listed on your maps, definitely not on poi’s or waypoints or anything like that.

5. Change the language back to English (anglais)

FYI, if you are on the Mac client, this most likely will introduce a gamma bug, but moving the slider around and back usually fixes that; if windows, carry on!

This works, most times, for gems not showing up, no stats/description when mousing over items, non-loading tp, greyed out buy/sell button issues. Of course, if it’s external, it might not work. At least you don’t have to restart to test this lol.

Be weary about upgrading your system, you may need more upgrades than just a vid card (I.e. power supply, etc).

Can occur even when one does have their correct password entered.
"

Make sure you entered it just like you did to get on here.

I don’t necessarily think this will work, but you can try this:

delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

You may want to copy/paste this folder to your desktop as a temporary back up, just in case.

Delete the contents of that specific folder (you should see files like this contained within “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” just to list a few), then re-run the client..

~~Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons. I found this after googling:

http://m.wikihow.com/See-Hidden-Folders-on-Mac-OS-X-and-Other-Recent-Models

You can also try holding alt while clicking "GO " in the finder menu bar unhide the correct Library folder, continue holding alt and click on Library (if you release the alt/option key, “library” will disappear. At least the link has visuals for you. Hope it helps.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

That link lists error codes and some fixes. Possibilities are antivirus/firewall software, conflicting programs, modem/router firewall (sometimes enabled by default), ports blocked, etc.

Obviously, test this with antivirus/firewall softwares temporarily disabled. Verify your router doesn’t have a firewall enabled, if it does, temporarily disable that and test. (modem too if you have one)

If you have a router, then I’m going to assume this is a private/home internet, so I won’t go into the public bits.

If this isn’t helping, you may need to set up port forwarding as described in the link. I personally use QoS without issue.

If none of this helps, you may need to run msconfig, disable all startup programs, then restart computer. Test gw2, if no issues that way, then run msconfig and re-enable one program at a time, restart, test gw2 until you have the issue again. If you find any programs that cause the crash, there may be a conflict there.

These are just a couple suggestions to try out, others may have more or better thoughts about your disconnect.

FYI, on rare occassion, the system may disconnect you and this could be a fluke lol, happened to me twice over the last week and I never have disconnects anymore.

Yeah! That was the first thing that grabbed my attention… 93%… Okay that’s a lot… Wait 20GB!!! Something can’t be right lol.

I can rarely chew up 8gb and I run photoshop, illustrator, dream weaver, 5 finder windows, plus gw2 at times. Plus, I usually will have a browser (I use safari for that since chrome & Firefox are memory dogs themselves) open with roughly 10 tabs while updating/testing websites lol. And during this, I still had memory to spare.

Maybe msconfig is in order, or a massively thorough virus/malware scan.

Kyllaa.1385

That would be your problem, 32 bit win isn’t utilising your full 8gb of ram. We may have picked up on that sooner if we had been able to see the full crash report. 32bit win tends to only be able to recognise roughly ~3.5gb of ram so any extraneous programs running (not to mention the os itself) is eating up all of that memory causing you to crash.

Movement with mouse

Kyllaa.1385

I have the stutter step issue too sometimes, but I’ll get that with the keyboard and/or mouse randomly. It usually occurs while navigating a jumping puzzle which causes me to “trip” on the next jump… Typically, I have to start over.

It seems like after I release my keys or mouse buttons quickly to cease any movement, then start again quickly, it only registers the forward movement without the jump. To e, it feels like if too many keys are pressed simultaneously, the game “loses” some of the key presses or only registers a set number at a time, therefore the keys/buttons that got triggered first register, the rest vanish into key press limbo never to be seen again.

But that is just my guess. However, I am curious to see what our new buddy Luis thinks after your response.

Try step 4 first, if it doesn’t work still, try 5. If it’s still doing it, post your complete system specs and what system you are on.

1.) run software update to ensure all drivers and os are up to date.

2.) try repairing disk permissions via Disk Utility first. Then…

3.) repair the client install

Open Terminal

Type the following:

/applications/guild\ wars\ 2.app/contents/MacOS/cider —use-dos-cwd C:Gw2 -- C:\\GW2\\GW2.exe -repair

You can copy and paste that in, but (check the dash) you must change the dash before the word USE or this will fail the forum shows an em dash (—), but it is supposed to be 2 consecutive en dashes (-). Run it and let it go until finished. FYI if you type the command yourself or paste it, they are 2 dashes (-) side by side… I’m noticing one sometimes looks like an em dash… It’s 2 en dashes though. (the dash before USE is 2 regular dashes)… Reiterated due to previous confusion about that dash on these forums.

4.)Perhaps after doing that, if it doesn’t work, you can try to delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.
