Temporarily try disabling the firewall.

Also, you may need to verify your ports on your modem/router. I use QoS, but they recommend forwarding.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

Something to look into is your console (/applications/utilities/console). Set it to all messages (I believe it uses that by default), then next time you d/c, look there immediately for any events that occurred at the same time as your d/c.

If I think of anything else, I’ll let you know.

Kyllaa.1385

Now that I see your log, this really belongs on the tech support forum.

You’ve encountered a couple different errors today alone.

I saw a few “out of memory” errors and a few “cannot be written” errors, plus one more “failed dx9dev.cpp.”

With one of those errors I’d recommend a check disk of your hard drive to check for a failing drive.

For another, start with closing out all extraneous programs or running an msconfig, disabling all startup programs, restart comp, test gw2.

For the other, well, I’m not sure, you could try a repair of the client, but I cannot confirm it will work.

If this was on the tech support forum, other tech savvy peeps could give their opinions and try to help you.

Anyway, start with those bits and we’ll go from there.

Game crashing become very frequent

in Account & Technical Support

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

These crashes are quite common on 32 bit windows systems. And somehow (this isn’t exactly confirmed, more my speculation so I could be completely wrong) there are more of these crashes associated with peeps using the same vid card.

Some options to try:

1) Make sure you have the latest vid card drivers installed. A clean install is preferred.

2) Close out any extraneous programs running and try to save some memory for gw2. One quick way to do this is with msconfig. Run msconfig, disable all startup programs, restart comp, test gw2. You can re-enable by repeating the steps.

Gw2 is using a little more memory this patch it seems. 32bit windows only recognizes up to roughly ~3.5gb of ram and a portion of that is used by the OS already, any extra stuff running is just chewing it up and not leaving enough for GW2s massive usage. Mine is using over 2gb now, last night, roughly 1.85gb (I’m on Mac and we need more memory due to our client). But if I’m getting this, I can only imagine what a 32bit system is doing.

Guild Wars 2 - crash... again and again

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

It doesn’t really leak away, it just uses an intense amount.

I have observed that gw2 is using slightly more memory since this patch, but again, it stops there. I watch my memory very closely. This game is currently using over 2gb of memory, 32bit windows systems can only use up to roughly ~3.5gb and usually a good portion of that is used by your OS itself.

Plus, there are some instances of it running out of video memory, but that’s a little more tricky to work with.

To start, try closing out as many background processes and applications as possible. Msconfig is a great for testing this, run it, disable all startup programs, restart comp, test. You can re-enable them after by repeating the steps.

Graphics settings seemed to be dropped to bare minimum with this patch, but that should GIVE an fps increase, not diminish it.

Could always try deleting the local.dat file (my documents/guild wars 2), then reload. This will clear all saved settings.

Gw2 is a totally different animal from other games and you can hardly compare them.

It’s very possible this is a client issue though, they may have changed something in the way they client is connecting, but without seeing the crash codes or messages, it’s impossible to speculate here.

Check this out either way, you may need to have a play with antivirus/firewall settings or mess with your modem/router ports.

https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8994/~error-codes

FYI, another person mentioned that their antivirus locked gw2 with this patch, so maybe you have a similar issue. Food or thought.

You can backup the gw2.dat file to avoid having to re-download ~17.5gb of data. That should shave off most of the reinstall time. After you install the client and it begins to download, close the client, then overwrite the newest gw2.dat file with your large backed up one. Then reopen client to allow it to try to download the updates and misc files.

Test that out and let us know how you go.

Very low FPS on 2012 Macbook pro

Posted by: Kyllaa.1385

Kyllaa.1385

I know it’s a bummer, but try turning your resolution down to 1440×900. (Why: my hubs has 2012 MBPr and turning his default screen to that nets him a lot of fps)

First, we’ll clear your settings and refresh your gw2 folder (this post will be a smidge long):

Delete the contents of the gw2 data folder, it’s a pain to get to the right one: this step is a general fix for many tp and graphics issues, even without the previous steps however, it will lose all saved login/password and in-game settings.

Mine is located under the hidden Library folder (navigate using finder or follow instructions below, do not use spotlight to search)

/[yourharddrivename]/users/[yourusername]/library/application support/guild wars 2

To access this:

1 Click on the “Finder” icon located in your dock or the desktop of your computer to make “Finder” the active program in the finder menu bar.

2 Hold down the “Option” key on your keyboard while clicking “Go” in the finder menu bar. A drop-down will appear.

3 While still holding down the “Option” key, click on “Library” in the “Go” drop-down.

4 Once in the Library folder click on Application Support > Guild Wars 2

5 Move the entire Guild Wars 2 folder to the trash and then empty the trash.

The next time you launch Guild Wars 2 it will recreate the recently deleted folder.

Launch the game to recreate this folder now

The contents of that specific folder include “config, dyndata.dat, user.reg, userdef.reg, and folders p_drive and wineserver…namestuff…loca..[long name]” (just to list a few).

~~FYI Your folder is probably hidden (as is the default). Hidden folders display as greyed out text and icons.

Try this first, then if your fps and performance don’t improve, try this after:

Reset your SMC and PRAM:

To reset the SMC please follow the instructions provided on the following web page.

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3964

The NVRAM/PRAM is what stores certain settings to allow your OS to access them quickly. I would like to ensure that none of these settings are interfering with the game being able to launch. Please note that resetting the NVRAM/PRAM will also reset these settings which may include resolution and volume among other information.

To reset the NVRAM/PRAM follow the instructions below:

1. Shut down the computer.

2. Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (?), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.

3. Turn on the computer.

4. Immediately press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys. You must press this key combination before the gray screen appears. Continue holding the keys down until the computer restarts, and you hear the start-up sound for the second time.

5. Release the keys.

NOTE – Resetting NVRAM/PRAM may change some system settings and preferences. Use System Preferences to restore your settings.

Post back after testing this and let me know how you go. Once your game does start running smoothly, you can tweak and adjust various settings to get a nice compromise between visually pleasing and performance. I get ~25-35 on mostly medium settings on an MBP late 2011 with 2.2ghz, 8gb ram.

Let me know though, there is still or more option to maximise performance here.

So, I looked at your logs again (from original post) and you have a couple issues cropping up. (FYI, just posting these long scripts of text don’t help completely, we need to see codes generated as well)

You definitely want to make sure you have the latest video card drivers. And windows system updates also, including optional bits.

You are having “cannot be read” errors plus connection errors. Have you considered checking for faulty hardware? You may need to run check disk on your hard drive and/or test your memory. A great way to troubleshoot your mem is to pull a stick and test the game, then swap them and test again, this rules out a failing stick and you have adequate amount to run with half. You can run a memtest as well, but this isn’t always 100%.

There is some connection issue, but I’m still trying to figure that out. You’re getting connection failed errors and hidden code 7 errors as well. If I find a post I have in mind, I’ll link it for you, but in the meantime, let’s keep working on this.

Start with your drivers and updates and we’ll go from there.

So don’t post any more long scripts, just copy and paste the full error message to a .txt and post like you did on the first message. And with any luck other peeps will see something I may have missed and help out.

Btw, you can make a backup of your gw2.dat file (from a working copy of gw2), then, instead of downloading all ~17.5GB, you just have to stop the installer once it tried to download the whole client data file, paste the dat file over top of the new, small one (overwriting it), then re-open the client and let it just finalise the misc files and updates.

Just save this backup externally so if you ever have to reload your system, you don’t lose it.
