There is a small rock shortly after you start your glide, aim for that. After that, keep right, you’ll crash again against some spikes, but not hard enough to die. And then you’ll be able to slide down without any problems. It took me a few tries to find the spots again, but once you’ve found it, it’s really handy to remember :p

Undersupply of Giant Eyes?

Giant eyes are almost impossible to get, with perhaps a 0.1% reward from heavy moldy bags, and mobs not dropping them. You are as likely to roll a precursor from rares as you are to find a giant eye in a moldy bag.

Funny you should say that…. I got a precursor from rares (a year ago) but still never had an eye drop for me….

So, you go to the gym to renew your membership, and you take your friend with you, who hasn’t been there before. They ask the same price from both of you, but since your friend is new, they throw some “free” shoes and a towel in to sweeten the deal. And then they tell you you won’t be needing these, since you already got them when you first signed up a few year back.

Actually, this is not the same situation. You bring your friend, he pays the same price as you, but he can make use of that shiny new device, while you have to pay an extra $10 for it.

1) A new WvW borderlands map and some accompanying mechanic changed and new siege equipment. This could very well change the face of WvW and make it much better. But we will not know that until we try it.

Bad move if only HoT players can go there. But then, I don’t do WvW, so why do I care.

2) A new PvP game mode with Stronghold (which I have tried and feel I will enjoy just as much as conquest).

If not getting HoT means I won’t get that map, I ’m all for not getting HoT.

3) New ways to explore PvE zones via the mastery system. Currently we know about gliding and mushrooms. We also know that lore masteries will grant us ways to explore the map and conquest challenges that block our path.

You won’t miss those masteries if you don’t have the new maps.

4) New ways to create legendaries via the mastery system, which will also bring with it new legendaries.

I will have to play another 2 years anyway before I have the required materials again to even think about legendary crafting again

5) Guild Halls that will provide a variety of interesting options and activities, as well as some really nice QoL changes. This has the potential to offer a lot of content to consume and repeat. Also: Customizable guild arenas!!!! That feature alone I would pay $50 for.

I see it as a convenience which I’ve done without for 3 years already, I think I can do without for another 3 years

6) A new profession: the Revenant. The revenant will feel different to play and will bring with it many skills and playstyles with which to enjoy the different game modes.

which you can’t even create when you buy HoT. You have to pay extra.

7) Elite specializations for each profession, bringing further build options and a new weapon to each profession. This will change the meta big time and drastically refresh the combat system.

I read about that specialization for the ranger, I wdidn’t like it, which means I don’t need it.

8) Large three tiered zones, providing dense activities withing a large vertical playground. While we do not know how many maps we will be getting, we know they will be slightly larger than a normal map, with each having 3 vertical tiers. This will effectively make each map more than 3 times the size of a normal map. Not only that, but each map will have its own overall themed dynamic event cycle and many repeatable adventures.

Another reason to not pre-order: we don’t even know what we’ll be getting for a full priced game, only that it won’t be a full game (for those that already own the core game)

9) A continuation of the Guild Wars 2 story, which may well culminate in the defeat of Mordremoth. How big this story will be, we will not know until we play it. Anet is not going to give any spoilers in this regard. But judging by all the little lore tidbits they have been dropping here and there, it seems like they have gone into some pretty hefty depth on this.

The only valid reason so far to buy the game, but the price is too steep for me for that alone.

10) New mini games. While we do not know what these are, or how many there will be, we do know they are adding new ones.

see point 8. And keep in mind that they promised us a lot 4 years ago which we still don’t have.

For me, it looks like it is more than worth the price tag and I was happy to hand over my cash. I am not trying to convince you either way here, I just wanted to highlight some of the things we know and some of the things we can safely assume. And I wanted people to see it is a bit more than just some other nonsense.

for me, and I think many with me, it isn’t. We’re essentially paying for promises (keep in mind that a lot of the changes for HoT, especially regarding traits, skills andmasteries, are in the core, which everybody will be getting) and most people know the reputation of Anet about keeping promises.

The main reason why I think this price tag is unfair is because of point 6. I have to pay extra if I want to try everything HoT has to offer.

I have no idea, not counting BL chests or the Forge. I do get an exotic from a JP chest once in a blue moon (but I have about 15 lvl80’s parked there) and I very rarely get an exotic as drop.
If money spared counts, I’ve gotten 1 ascended armor chest from a WvW chest and one from a PvP chest.
If the BL chests count, I’ve gotten an ore node.
If the forge counts, I’ve gotten the Hunter (which I wanted from day one I knew it existed), and used.

Crafted Mawdrey II, why did I bother?

LadyRhonwyn.2501

An ascended and exotic backpiece (with selectable stats) is an awesome reward. Last time I checked, the ascended backpiece you get from crafting Mawdrey is good value for money. The skin is unique and a lot of people really like the look of it. So far, I think you are the only person I’ve seen that has voiced dislike about the skin… but we all know that beauty is subjective.

So.. why did you craft something you didn’t like the look of?

Also, the rewards you get from feeding Mawdrey are random. I certainly haven’t made my money back on her yet, but I’ve received plenty of silver doubloons, t5+6 crafting materials along with some exotics, rares, cores and lodestones (and a load of merchable junk). Certainly better than throwing my heaps of bloodstone dust away.

I’ve also heard a lot of people who made Mawdrey simply because they found the scavenger hunt a thrill.

I don’t care for the skin, I don’t care for ascended items, but I loved the hunt. And I love to gamble with useless items. I didn’t spend gold on it, but I could have made gold from the materials used, if I ever would sell materials. But, being a packrat, I don’t. So this dust eater is s great addon for me. Now I only need one for Ore….

Thats over 10 silver.

LadyRhonwyn.2501

I just made the run: It takes 1:35 to run from the north gate in SW to where the kidney guy stands.

Therefore, if it takes less than 62 seconds to rez someone, it’s more profitable (for the team) to rez. Longer = WP and run.

But, that’s probably the longest possible run in the game outside of fractals. Normal situations would seem to take less time to run (the aforementioned IG2, for instance).

Does anybody know how long it takes to rez someone?

For VW, you’re under time restrictions. You lose DPS and time when reviving people from being dead.

And you’ll lose DPS for the rest of the battle if you WP out, as you cannot return.

So all the titles and/or achievements associated with obtaining said items will mean nothing AND the legendary market will crash.

Sure. Totally worth it. >_>

It simply means that if you use such a stone that the item will be removed from your achievement list as well. And your wardrobe naturally.

What’s sad is that for Necromancers, all but the weapons restrictions are the opposite. Improved combo play, faster attack speeds, higher damage, still have high CC (both soft and hard) and good mobility, and even more reliable utilities (in the form of minions) than on land. Nobody, and I do mean nobody can challenge a Necro underwater solo and expect to win.

That would be completely dependent on the necro. I really can’t seem to kill anything with the necro and the ele. I only like the underwater combat on the warrior and ranger. If you fight me with any class, and me on my necro, you’ll be guaranteed a win.

What’s happened to the supply of Black Lion Chests!?!?!?

I was looking at GW2TP and noticed a 75% decrease in stock… It went from around 2.7M to 210K in a matter of around 3 hours…

That has happened before. Someone buying up large numbers of them to resell a little bit higher and make a profit that way.

Yes, but more than 2 million? That’s over 8000 stacks…

Weird character movements

I have no idea how else to describe this than as a weird character movement.

I have a newly made (and turned 20) human. I got some free copper tools for my trouble of using a lvl20 scrolls, so I decided to visit some havesting farms (Beetletun, Caledon Forest, Matrica, etc). So, I went to Beetletun, moved to Kessex Hills, crossed that into Caledon, harvested the letuce patch there too and went for dinner.

When I got back, I found my character standing at the entrance to the Grove.

Hmm, I didn’t move anywhere near the Grove, the Grove is still 100% fogged, which means I shouldn’t even have the waypoint unlocked… And as I wasn’t standing at the waypoint, but rather close to the Grove portal, that wasn’t used either…

No idea if I can reproduce it (I’d have to recreate my character again…) but I’d thought I’d put it here “ter leering ende vermaeck” as we Dutch say… (which translates to something like “for learning and fun”

This is great news. Thanks a lot. Four of my characters have been waiting for this for so long.

Will the story instance entrances be returned to their original locations, rather than the current airship ‘airdrop’ thing that currently occurs at Fort Trinity?

The original entrances of the story-missions and what happened on the maps fitted together very well – it makes little sense to me that I had to travel back to Fort Trinity and board a ship to get airdropped at a place I had been a few steps away from.

this change was the best of all… The continually moving back to Fort Trinity doesn’t make any sense… And was annoying as hell…

but at the point where they make you back track to
a previous story step after you’ve cleansed Orr I just couldn’t
stand it anymore.
I mean…did they ever play the story once before they did this?
Whaaawtf…etc etc.
Unbelievable that such s@!#t can come out as a product of a studio
like Anet.

I finished my PS last weekend, just to see how it worked out withe the new order. And to be honest, I preferred the new order… The only thing that bothered me was some lines of various NPC’s that should be changed as they refer to elements that still need to be done. But with the new order, you try to cleanse Orr first and then start the journey to clean up the rest (aka Zhaitan).

But, I would have liked it better if you killed Zhaitan first, and then ckeanse Orr by giving it that life injection. The cutscene of that story part is just awesome, but a bit wasted in its current position in the story order…

Dungeons have never been required to explore yet they are more connected to Tyria than WvW. You only had to farm one dungeon for a specific gift.

Gift of Knowledge, requiring 500 crystals from the Crucible of Eternity, and you still do. (This one is one of the components required for the legendary rifle The Predator.) Actually, I’m given to understand after discussing the subject with guildmates that certain other legendary weapons require you to farm another specific dungeon (depending on the weapon in question) for the rewards needed to get the gift.

Every dungeon has its own gift and every gift is required for at least one legendary. And, as mentioned before, you don’t need to do the dungeon. I finished the Predator last week (or was it the week before that?) and I never set foot in the Crucible. I figured I’d try the PvP track instead. I don’t like PvP and I don’t like dungeons, but at least PvP can be done several times in a row within a fairly short time and you get a reward even with a loss and you get both crystals and armor/weapons!

If they shortened the afk timer to 1min while inside an active event perimeter, I’d say that would work. Anyone that needs to step away for a drink or nature break could very easily step outside of an event circle before stepping away.

So, I’m going to the bathroom, and I’ll feed the cats in the meantime. Takes me about 5 minutes. During that time, an event spawns around me. And I’m kicked because I happened to be at the wrong place at the wrong time for a second too long.

That is correct.
It is interesting when people equate “getting kicked” with being punished. Its called a character select screen. When you return from being away — simply log back in and continue on your merry way.

if that was only true in SW… I can be in a map that is about 10 minutes away from a breach, get kicked (for whatever reason) and come back in a map that has just finished the vine…

Good luck finding people that are willing to leave defending a certain tower, or camp or whatever so I can commune at a sp…. Especially if your side is already undermanned.

So the problem is BAD EVENT SCALING DESIGN, not people being afk.

No. Especially in SW, where having more people active is crucial for the breach and vine events, AFK’ers don’t so much scale up, but rather prevent active people from joining in the map so the events can be evenly filled…

I’ve managed it 8 times – it isn’t hard if you are intelligent about it.

It’s not hard at all, it’s just tedious as people are killing you while it’s 1000% clear you are not there to WvW but to map.

…and being “ganked” repeatedly…

Just for the record: you have not been ganked. You have been killed. How often did you die during PvE-Map completion or doing PvE-events in general?

Think of WvW as “PvE finally having a decent AI”. Because that’s what it is: the challenging game mode.

And if you’re communing at a SP, and you’re killed, you’ve been ganked. If you’re one step away from a Vista and somebody attacks you, you’ve been ganked. If you’re halfway killing a foe required for a SP and somebody kills you, you’ve been ganked.

I could sell the 500 for around 120g I believe, but then again, that may not be much since as I said, I’ve been away for a year and a half so I assume people have millions.

You probably got them when the chili cheese poppers were the vogue, way at the start of the game. You could buy them with karma then. But as bot cheese and chili peppers were karma items, Anet decided to remove the chili from the karma merchant and make it a rare drop instead…

WvW is NOT, despite some claims to the contrary, actually a physical part of Tyria; as another poster pointed out earlier, it’s actually a region of the Mists, and therefore should never have been included in map completion requirements in the first place.

I have never been hassled as I never asked for anything. I just ran alone or with the zerg. I have been killed 3 times and well that’s part of the game, you can’t expect to run around solo and not being killed.

Then, sir, you are a very lucky man, in both your server and opposing servers (presuming you ate like the rest of the people that like this change because they don’t like WvW). I already got killed 4 times within the 2 hours it took me to finish the red borderland yesterday…

Map completion in WvW enforced in me the fact that there are jerks out there who revel in the fact that they can ruin the fun of others, and apparently lack any form of compassion. Which is the reason why I hate PvP in general.

Since the year 2 insta 20 scrolls not stack in the bank, I’ve found myself just not opening the mail with the presents.

They do stack. They just won’t stack with the ones you get for your first birthdays.

I wonder who thought of the idea to add an identical mini to the birthday gifts, which you can only use once… So, for the third birthday, I’d like the option to Forge it…

I rejoiced when I read the news. I’ve done 4 completions so far but have PvE completion on twice as many characters. The WvW part was always a pain in the kitten for me. For 93% you can get this achievement without any problems, in your own time. It takes a lot of time, of course, but that’s what I consider the effort in world completion. WvW was an obstacle. I’m on Ruins of Surmia and that server hasn’t always been as good in WvW. Try getting an enemy Borderlands when you don’t get that colour week after week. You could have everything except that one map for a long time, waiting for a chance to finally get that last 2%.

This is the biggest problem of putting WvW in the map completion part. You don’t have any influence on when you will be able to finish that last borderland… It depends deeply on other servers and luck.
If the colours would always rotate (green last week, red this week, blue next week, rinse and repeat), I think there would have been less problem with the map completion in WvW.
If servers would always go against servers of their own calibre, I think there would have been less problem with map completion in WvW.

As it is now, pure chance can keep you away from finish that map completion for months. Simply because your server is not good enough to keep its own against the other two or because you simply don’t get the colour you need. I’ve been waiting for over a month to finish the WvW part of the map on two characters, simply because we won’t turn blue (that would be completion nr 7 and 8, so I know what I’m talking about…)

As somebody earlier already mentioned, it’s only about 4%. And it’s actually the easiest part, if you’re lucky with your server and rotation. And even if you are unlucky on either or both, it just takes time, a lot of patience and frustration, and not an ounce of skill…

I have finished the wvw maps on multiple characters, by just waiting and waiting and waiting…. Oh and by respawning, being killed while running unarmed, naked (before the armor damage cost removal) and respawning again. I’m back at waiting again (will at least be a month total) for our server to finally turn blue so I can finally finish the wvw maps on two more characters…

What gets me is the pattern is endemic in all games. After a certain point in time the game begins to “dumb down” or be made easier to appease those that cannot be bothered to work at something. Eventually there are flashing neon signs pointing the way, thinking and planning become secondary to following the crowd, dungeons become scripted where everyone does exactly what is needed to be done to get it done in record time, innovation is gone. The game starts to hold your hand and at that point I start searching for new horizons.

I don’t see how removing the annoyance of having to do WvW maps is making the game easier… In WvW, you have three identical maps, that don’t require any skill. Just luck. Take today, for instance. I wanted that SP in the south of the borderland (near the spiders). We’re red (again and again and again, but I have even more characters…), so it is the commune version. I was happily communing with it, when some red person comes along and kills me. I was communing! He could have waited 5 seconds and then kill me, I would have had my skill and he would have had his ego stroked: I killed a non-fighting person! Now, only the second part was true and I had even more annoyance while mapping WvW.

I went and got 100% world completion on 9 characters with a lot of perseverance. Now they are going to give it to you on a silver platter.

Sad…..

Yes.

What part of the game you are playing?

I am interested how people can miss the dungeons.

Easy. A loathing to join pugs and no friends who do dungeons. though, I don’t really miss them…

I’m sitting on 15K points, I have finished all parts of AC and CM, and one or two paths (or story, no idea as the game doesn’t tell me) on some of the others. And the last time I did a dungeon was over a year ago (to get the dungeon tokens for my legendary)

There’s an option against trash talking: report and the block. You’ll have the last word….
