GW Veterans missed out on items due to RNG?

Lalocat.6793

edit: actually now that I think about it, dedicating an item to your HoM did not even soulbind it, just not allow them to dedicate it to theirs so you could get cheaper priced items if they were ded cuz at that point you can only use them not collect as achievement.

Weapons were soul bound after dedicating, minis were not. (Are not.)

I played gw1 for ~1k hours total which is how long it took me to fill HoM. I did get a froggy scepter, with the wrong stat so I couldn’t use it. Having everything in gw1 tradeable saved me a ton of pain, cause I could do easy/fun things (dailies) to buy annoying or tedious things (200 zkeys. Think I earned ~40 myself playing during bonus times.)

I understand why they made some things in gw1 untradeable, but it doesn’t really help unlucky people. I have average luck when it comes to things I can sell, and terrible luck for account bound things. No fossils, no teq hoard, no ghost dog. I tried to get someone to take the bet that I would get a full stack of spoons before getting a hoard, but no one in my guild would bet against the rng.

  • I recently joined a pug for story mode and then randomly started voting to kick people. To my surprise, all of my votes succeeded until there was just me and one other, at which point I left the party.

Can’t stop laughing. That reminds me of my own personal worst dungeon confession, when some random person found in lfg switched to an alt at the end of cof p1 without asking and I just completely lost the will to live and dropped dead on the spot. This naturally led to a wipe. They came back with their 80, we got the boss down to maybe half, and they logged again, which again caused all the fight to just drain out of me. Their alt came back to another wipe and rather than, you know, stay and do the dungeon properly they rage quit.

I haaaate when people swap to an alt at the end, whether they ask or not. Buy a dungeon if you want to level your alt.

Why do you craft in this game?

in Crafting

Posted by: Lalocat.6793

Lalocat.6793

Leveled them all because I could. Still craft to save/make gold, mostly timegated things here and there. Sometimes ascended items. I made ascended mawdrey and crafted/gathered everything myself. They are also needed to craft account bound legendary gifts, if you want to make it instead of buying the finished weapon.

My favorite thing about crafting is avoiding the trading post. Want something craftable? Got the mats? Go right ahead. Who cares what it costs? I don’t even like to think about it. Sometimes I do work out if crafting is better than buying. Like I bought exotic inscriptions to craft ascended inscriptions, because buying was cheaper than crafting for exotic and other way around for ascended. But for little things like the halloween food collection I find it more satisfying/fun to make it myself. If/when I get around to the weapon set collections, I’ll craft them too.

Ahaha this is me except for the trying part. I dress him up like a swashbuckler too. ^__^ Pistol whip is the only skill you need! (Okay I use the blind too. Sometimes.)

I don’t like to ping my gear for dungeons because I follow the meta except for runes. If I could cheaply and easily recover a rune set it would be different, but as it is now the idea of overwriting 70g of runes next time the meta changes sticks in my craw.

You can do all paths of hotw in <45 min with an okay team. I’m sure it’s even faster with a great group. It’s sad that people hate p2 and p3 so much, because it makes finding this decent group that much harder. I like p2 more than p1.

I googled looking for tips on how to complete this achievement beyond the obviousand found solid gold in a guide that recommended doing every path of a dungeon every day, along with an entire pvp reward tier. Apparently it takes only a week to complete one dungeon collection if you start from zero! Hahahaaaa right.

I had no idea it was so bad! I’ve been working on it since collections came out (really, since the wardrobe patch) and have developed a new appreciation for hotw p2 and p3, and reaffirmed that I don’t like pvp.

It did start to get boring, so I stopped for awhile, then switched class. Done three, making good progress on three more, kind of lagging on the last two cause they aren’t my favorites but I wouldn’t call it torture. Probably be done within the next month or so, unless I take another break from it. So yeah it’s taking a long time, so what? Just take a break if you get bored. Do something else, you’ll get it eventually.

It annoys me when people watch cutscenes. The issue is that very few people do, so it is expected that you will skip them by default. When something is the default, there is no need to put it in your lfg, when it isn’t standard you do. I never ever join groups that have “watching cutscenes” in the description because I don’t want to watch and don’t want to wait for anyone else to watch it either.

And I’m not the only one. Groups with “watching cutscenes” in the description can take a really long time to fill, but if you want to play with “nice people” that is what you are going to have to do.

(Noob): Is crafting worth it?

in Crafting

Posted by: Lalocat.6793

Lalocat.6793

It’s worth doing, but if you are new it is low priority. I think I started leveling crafting after I’d been playing for like a year. Now I have them all maxed and yes it’s nice to have, and very nice to never have to worry whether I’ll be able to make a particular thing (timegated crafting, legendary recipes). If you really like crafting go for it. I seem to recall that I did not enjoy leveling all those crafts, and found it sucked up a ton of gold that I would have rather spent on something else.

If you find crafting boosters use them.

I’ve never gotten a drop worth more than say 10g? 781 days and that is my reality.

This thread reinforces my feeling that despite no precursor drop, my luck is quite average. I don’t have any complaints about the current loot system to tell the truth. I do seem to be getting better stuff lately (more exotics and t6, some of the exotics are even valuable thanks to collections), though whether that is magic find, or doing the “right” things, or a general change or just same old rng, I couldn’t say. I know I’m not rich, but I don’t feel poor either. My best two drops ever by far were this last month and they each sold for about 70g. Before collections my best drop was worth 20g at the time. I like collections very much. (3k hours played, no flipping or farming.)

How do you interpret the term "exp" from LFG?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lalocat.6793

Lalocat.6793

To me, it means “I know how this is done in a PUG.” This is basic strategy and knowing how/where the boss is usually fought (in a PUG context).

Yes, this is how I think of it too. So I don’t join groups with exp for paths that I don’t actually know well, like cm p2 and cof p3. I’ve done them (cm p2 at least a dozen times), but if expected to take the lead I’d be clueless.

vote kicks

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Lalocat.6793

Lalocat.6793

What I would like to see is an actual vote. Right now one person initiates the kick, another confirms, and there is no option for anyone else in the group to vote against the kick. If you don’t want them kicked you just have to wait and hope that no one else confirms before the timer runs out. There should be a check and an x, not only a check. If vote kicking waited for input from every other party member, it would work a lot better.

It’s insanely bad, and not only in dungeons. A full group is absolutely necessary when doing world bosses because dcs are so common, I had a lag spike while waiting for megadestroyer (pre event hasn’t even started iirc) and when things started moving again 3/5 members of my party were offline. I dc multiple times a day, in open world, in instances, during big boss fights, and while standing around on an empty map doing absolutely nothing (camping eye of zhaitan pre). I’d make a bug report but the only thing my dcs/crashes have in common is that I was playing gw2 at the time.

The only times my groups had trouble (regardless of gear, sometimes he dies fast and sometimes slow) is the p1 final fight where his attacks aren’t telegraphed by huge red circles. There it helps to have someone healing if your dps is bad. Otherwise count 3 dodge works perfectly. It’s possible to dodge everything. Timberline Falls map completion on a Level 80 Elementalist. I opened a few chests but I did not include them, didn’t open champ bags. Didn’t include map completion items. This is only mob drops. Things my character can (technically) use in the top bag, things he can’t underneath.

It’s kind of horrifying. I mean, yes, I could play light classes all the time to get the best loot, but I don’t really want to. I didn’t notice it before because I usually salvage and sell as I go and most of my loot normally comes from chests which aren’t affected. I guess I’m happy to have gotten my fill of playing thief and ranger before this update.

The soulbound unsalvageable level rewards are an ok idea, but I think I mentioned they are unsalvageable. After all the complaining about unsalvageable karma, order, and wvw gear, they add more of it to the game. Why. Am I really going to level a character to 65 just to have a shot at salvaging 3 linen scraps? I hate unsalvageable gear.

I have been leveling since the patch but I’m cheating and using scrolls and tomes, so can’t say much about it. My character does seem quite strong, now that I’ve hit 60 and can use traveler runes so running around doing stuff is more fun.

A big bonus was I learned I was dodging wrong. I new something was wrong when I fought the Karka Queen. She would roll; I would dodge back and live, but many other players would die… it was awkward… But after the dodge tutorial, I am now doing it correctly. I let the Karka Queen kill me and wait to get rezzed, When the chest spawns, I dodge into it. I feel like a real pro now.

The dodge tutorial came up in the ui as something one of my lvl 80 chars should check out so I did it… I don’t feel that my results were as good as yours though, maybe I did it wrong.

antigaming path sellers

Lalocat.6793

Casmurro, I think I just said literally that I did not want the dungeon to be dumbed down. I said I want it to be more fun.

Mad Queen, if Arah isn’t fun for you, why isn’kitten What would you do differently? Maybe we could all come up with some ideas for new, different dungeons that are varied enough to be fun for everyone.

Not Mad Queen, but for me it’s the skipping. I hate the skipping. So long, so much cc, takes forever to get a “perfect run” where the entire team makes it to the boss… and then if you wipe you have to do it all again. And if you kill the boss, it’s on to the next skip. Yay. Yeah, I’m a regular buyer. I’ve done every path at least once the right way, that’s good enough for me.

Tom is correct, there are many people running Arah and it’s not hard to find a group. I see lots of groups while browsing for paths to buy, and they fill quickly. Granted most of them are “exp only melee lupi 7k ap” but there are enough that are just the path number. I don’t buy because I can’t find a group. There are a lot of people doing the dungeon, not just sellers. At least in EU.

I wouldn’t petition to have it changed, obviously many people like it as is. I’ve had fun in Arah before, some nice guild runs. Don’t like it, leave it alone. Or buy. You can get skins/tokens from pvp anyway, so it’s not like you are claiming something no one could get if they didn’t personally run the dungeon and there were no path sellers.

They are pretty and you get to feel very majestic running around with all the other people who have them.

It’s funny that you consider two drops in your account lifetime “unlucky”. Two more than I’ve had. I’ve said that if I make a third legendary I’ll wait for a drop, but I expect that statement to go down in history along with “pfft legendaries who needs them” and “more than one? Nah.” I was really surprised how much I enjoyed having them and the shine hasn’t really worn off months later. Right before equipping I thought I would regret it (both times) but I didn’t and don’t. So that’s the big benefit for me, shiny, fun, nice to have.

I have almost everything else I need to put it all together (short 2 fractal relics), it’s just that selling the plant foods every day is a super easy way to get gold. I’ll take the gold now, and make the backpiece later.
