Scarlet needs to go. Now.

After December 10, there will be just four releases left in the current major world story arc, which we like to think of as season one of the Living World. Our first release in the new year will be on January 21 as we begin our countdown to the end of this story arc. We’ll use the longer break to spend extra time to ensure that our final four releases are as polished and exciting as possible.

Four more updates of Scarlet. NO.

But if you give us just four more patches, we will turn it around and it will be great and . . . NO.

I understand that you want to make it work, “save” her in the eyes of the players and I say NO.

I also understand that a lot of it might already be finished. I do not care one bit to see any of it. Trash it.

As many have pointed out, the problem with Scarlet was the lack of backstory, lack of dialogue, writing revolving around content when it should be the other way around.

In the next update, instead of any content, give us a 10 minute cutscene explaining her tragic past, her misunderstood motivation and how she DIED.

My suggestion:

All the experiments left her with little time left to live, so she lived it to the fullest, wishing to leave no regrets.

Scarlet Briar died peacefully, in her sleep, January 21st 2014.

It was an experiment, you did the best you could, you learned a lot, you will do better next time.

Now kill her.

Thank you Anet for ZERO response

All suggestions concerning combustive shot shared the same idea: 15% here or there doesn’t matter, but either leave the tick intervals be or decrease them. The exact opposite happened.

The only burst skill that was worth using in PvE was turned into garbage.

Why? Because generating 0 adrenaline was just too much in PvP.

Meanwhiles, the trait which made it imbalanced remains untouched. Seriously?

opinions on pve dps

Warrior is number one, no contest. Not in the sense of who does most DPS in optimal setting, but certainly in the sense who does the most DPS on average. Thieves/eles/guards/mesmers can dish out more if the situation is right and if they know what they are doing. But what I’m saying is: Only 10% of players know how to out-dps a warrior with their class in 50% of situations. What makes warrior the most desirable dps in a random group are not just his unique buffs, but his reliability: It’s hard to die, it’s hard to screw up, it’s hard to do low dps. Warriors for the win.

Combat Depth in PvE: GW > GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lampshade.7569

GW2 combat system is great, it could use some polish like displaying enemy cast bars, more visible AoE markers, but other than that, job well done.

Example: today in lvl 32 fractals, 4 team members died after killing firestorm in molten boss fractal, then one guy killed berserker by himself over ~20 minutes.

Alternative: heal/tanking being success-critical. In a 5 man group, tank and healer die and 3 dps jump into lava.

OP suggestion about more weapon skills is quite unrelated, but great. It does require a bit more thought though. How about this : for each slot of each weapon there are 3 skills to be chosen from. That way you could prevent imbalanced builds that would choose 4 long cd big nuke skills and 1 shot people in pvp, or 4 heal eles/guards in pve.

GW2’s economy is fundamentally poisoned by the fact that the “gem-gold exchange” is a black box, where players can’t set their own prices (or pick who they buy from or sell to).

Gems not being player-tradeable has nothing whatsoever to do with the actual problems of GW2 economy. Now back to the real problem – flipping being the best moneymaking process in GW2.

ANet just has to admit that some skill design was just poor to start off with. No matter how much you play with the numbers, if the skill design and mechanics fall short to start with, it’d never be balanced.

Look at GS for warriors in pvp for example. You can increase the numbers, decrease the numbers but the fact is that the skills are simply poorly designed for pvp. Hundred blades is great but it completely takes away GW2’s signature trait: mobility.

What Riot did that helped them evolve into such a huge e-sport is that in addition to balancing, they recognized that sometimes some skill sets simply did not work for the game mechanics. It’s not uncommon for them to completely trash out the whole skill set for a champion if that’s what it takes to make it work.

Now, Anet. You have tried, fiddled with numbers and let your fans down by failing to turn this game into an e-sport. will you keep fiddling with your numbers, hoping for a change or will you actually take some drastic changes?

This is all to true and the suggestions are great. It is also never going to happen.

This is the issue here. You (and many others) find “playing” the TP wrong. But as I wrote (more eloquently) in another thread, this is simply a matter of opinion, of which your are welcome to (and should be commended for) do/doing what you think is right.

But conversely, neither should your value judgments detract from anyone else’s fun, so long as their fun is not harming you in any way.

In the case of the TP, “playing” it does not harm anyone else’s ability to “play” the game in the manner they choose. You may not like someone speculating in the market, but similarly I may not like someone griefing others in the Obsidian Sanctum. Yet each is a small subset of a good thing, in these cases a robust and liquid economy and an open-world PvP arena.

To those who don’t like the trading post, then, I ask only be question: How has it harmed you and your playing experience? If it has, then by all means let the devs know, and they should try to remedy this problem. But if it really hasn’t, than accept that the debate is simply one over values, not mechanics.

Hello there.

It’s just as you said, people who have made lots of money on the TP have never harmed me in any way. I’m also not starved for money, I make it mostly by running dungeons and I’m ~200 away from my legendary. It’s also not about effort, someone playing the TP might indeed have put more into it than me to make the same amount of gold.

So what’s the problem?

They get the same rewards. When you see someone carrying a legendary these days, the first thought that comes to mind is : Wallet Warrior / TP Abuser. I want people to know that I worked hard playing the game, not gaming the system. Now you might argument that in the real world, it’s no surprise when someone gaming the economy has better rewards than someone working hard with their hands. But in the real world, it’s also possible that when the vast majority of people get upset about how the gold hoarders use their fortune, they stomp their kittening faces into the kittening pavement.

It’s funny you say that because there seems so be no real point to your post other then to flame people who stated thier opinion. You really didn’t add anything valuble with your post other then an infinite storage. Mainly just making pointless 1 liner cracks at people whos opinions are different then your own.

I stated my own opinion, then made a suggestion I believe would improve the game. The rest was just responding to increasingly offensive reactions (like yours).

You think it’s easy and no effort spending time in LA in front of the TP, doing something you obviously can’t.

I have not once written anything even remotely related to the difficulty of TP gaming. Just FYI though, I have done so successfully and then decided not to continue, because I found it wrong.

It’s very risky playing the tp, the market doesn’t always play out like you hoped. When 99.999% of the time manipulation fails, that’s a big gold sink.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gold_sink

After you read how a valuable gold sinks drains gold from the economy maybe you can understand what i wrote.

I will get back to you on this once I read up.

Edit: Sorry that this post didn’t include anything productive, but I was eager to hop into the shower instead of playing forum-pvp.

How about this: Collectibles stay freely marketable, to provide some limited space for the recreational speculators and those who wish to sacrifice their massive hoards of gold for the greater good. Everything else is bound on purchase, foiling the big time speculations like precursor flipping. This could (hopefully) also help with the problem of some items being much cheaper than the materials they consist of.

Or maybe we could go back to the idea of a progressive tax. It still provides a gold sink and allows long term speculations, but works against the day-to-day, 10-hours-sitting-in-Lion’s-Arch “flipping”.

You got to think of the consequences of this. If i need more mats and i buy them, ill have some i found, which are sellable, and some that are account bound, using twice as much of my precious inventory space. Look at how many different mats some craftable items take, like ascended, could you imagine having this take up twice as much space?

Mats are not an issue. Make deposit collectible slots infinite, each of them remembering the amount of the mats that are bound and those that are not, easy fix.

Also what if i buy too many mats, i’m now stuck with them and cannot sell off my excess. If im throwing yellows in the forge and i buy 200g worth of yellows and get my precurser with only 10g worth, i’d loose the option to sell of what i no longer need.

Well then maybe you will learn a lesson about blowing up 200 gold at a time.

As Buttercup also suggested, the TP is also a major gold sink. 15% of all transactions is huge when you think how much some items have switched hands. It really is keeping prices lower by removing all this gold from the economy, eventhough some temporary items may be higher due to TP flippers. Those items would eventually go up as the supply deminishes anyways, if they do infact have a limited supply and are a wanted/useful item. The more gold thats in the economy, the more people can spend on those expensive items, which could potentially make it worse.

I have no idea what you are trying to say here.

It’s debatable the real impact this could have on the economy, but why change something thats not broken? It would stop TP flipping that’s true, but that’s also a part of the game that many people find enjoyable.

The answer to this issue was already given by Ohoni :

I’m sure they would lose TPPKs if they took steps to limit the profits involved, I just highly doubt that this would in any way hurt the game. They might lose TPPKs but in so doing they would be pleasing their regular players, who make the world a more active and lively place for everyone (and are also much more likely to buy gem store items with cash).

Yeah, why fix the issue of people standing in LA, hours at a time, and force them to go out there and play the game? What horrible nonsense.

I casually flip exotics for a small profit, just making my gem store and small purchases possible. I’m not swimming in gold, and could probably make more doing other things, but I find it fun and it allows me to casually play alts, or WvW while I turn out a bit of gold on the tp.

So basically, you are saying how satisfied you are with having a steady supply of gold for almost no effort.

I don’t believe the Trading Post should be removed, but I do believe that all items should be made “Account Bind on Purchase,” so that you can sell whatever you own on the TP, and you can buy anything you like on the TP, but you cannot buy stuff with the intent to sell it.

I have not given my suggestion a lot of thought, I just threw out there the very first thing that I believed could fix the issue. This is a much better suggestion and I plead for everyone reading this to support it.

Edit: Also, please lets drop the term “TP-PvP”, or people might get the idea that it deserves “balance” instead of abolishment.

Yes, but my suggestion would be much easier in terms of implementation and easier to get used to after being executed.

You’ve got repressive suggestions, not productive. By your own admission you want to force people who don’t like to play the way you play to not enjoy the game so that only your opinion of a “superior race” play-style will be rewarded (that’s right, I tied in “those guys” in my analogy to show you just how offensive your suggestion is).

Very sound strategy, trying to derail the thread in hopes of decreasing the value of posted anti-TP-manipulation arguments.

Your argument is that people who don’t enjoy playing the way you play should not be allowed to enjoy the game. I had hoped to post a wake up call to you in case you simply didn’t see the error of your position. Since you wish to continue arguing in favor of digital “genocide”, there is no reason for anyone to waste their time debating you as you aren’t interested in learning why you are wrong, but rather wish to rail against an incorrectly perceived “unfairness”.

My strategy at this point is to simply dismiss your “argument” because it is nonsense. Trying to debate nonsense is pointless.

You win. Have a nice day.

If sitting in LA, browsing trading post graphs on a web is your idea of having fun, then yes, I absolutely want you not to have any nice things.

Back to my suggestion though: by setting the value of K close to 0.5, lets say 0.55, those who are willing to wait still sell higher and buy lower that those who buy or sell now, but those who do both with the same item lose.

Too bad it’s never going to be implemented. Sometimes I really wonder why I get these moods where I believe productive suggestions will achieve anything.

Players should not be hindered in selling / buying at will, the TP in general is a great thing. But gaming the TP is just plain wrong. Answer? Progressive tax. When you buy low and sell high, the tax is always high enough to make you lose money. GG trading post manipulation.

( In practical terms, tax on buy or sell would be K times the max-min difference, where K is between 0.5 and 1. )

Educated Warrior Questions

in Warrior

Posted by: Lampshade.7569

Lampshade.7569

Hello there. i have a couple questions about warriors. Some about leveling and some about end game content. I only started playing 2 weeks ago, but i have had my account since beta.

1: Warrior spec?

- Many guides telling me to level with full signets, but that they start to fail around 60+. so should i start a pure damage build that i found on noxxic? or is there a better build guide that i should follow?

For solo exploring, signets are just fine.

2: Warrior gear?

- Guides that i have read has lead me to wearing power/vit. When you get to 60, there is no power/prec/vit gear set that i have seen so i’m a bit confused on what gear i should run with.

Berserkers (Pow/Prec/Crit). If you want to do any PvE at all, better start getting used to it now rather than hold false hopes of keeping soldiers (Pow/Vit/Tough).

3: Warrior Weapons?

-Also guides i have read is run with GS and Rifle. But end game guides tell me that axe/mace combo has the best over all DPS due to the auto attack being so great. So i don’t know what i should do still.

You will eventually come to a point where you will carry and feel comfortable with any weapon. How much you actually switch them up depending on situation depends on the degree to which you care about proficiency – some switch them all the time to keep the best performance, some couldnt be bothered and stay gs + ranged 24/7.

4: Warrior end game?

- How is it? I have seen a lot of forum posts about warriors being strong end game, but i have also heard a lot of rumors about all classes. I have also heard of some dungeon groups where you run 4 warriors and a mesmer (sounded like fun :P )

Thats a loaded question. Some claim warrior to be op, some claim him to be getting weaker lately, mostly depending on how much they pvp and how much they pve.

In pve, he is not the king of the damage dealers he used to be, and organized groups going mes + guard + 3 warr is a history, but he can still dish out relatively nice damage and he brings unique buffs that will, in random groups, leave you in high demand, even if another warrior is already present.

For pvp, he went from doormat to faceroll with a timely combination of over-buff and new exploits. The bugs getting fixed took something from him, but the emotions are dying down and it seems that warrior on top is here to stay.

Tl;dr: Warriors are op.

Edit: But if anyone from the balance team asks, we are poor and weak and struggling with the hell that is our everyday life.

DPS build without GS?

in Warrior

Posted by: Lampshade.7569

Lampshade.7569

GS #1 is 2.3 modifier over 2.3s, GS #2 is 5.5 over 3.5s, axe #1 is 5 over 3.6s. The rest is easy to look up so you can do your own math, but when you sum it up, pure axe slightly beats pure gs in the open, GS slightly wins with whirlwind against a wall, swapping beats both. Worst case scenario you can wall whirl + swap but you are stuck pure axe, around -15%.

GS does have its uses though, on mobs where you know you are not getting to triple chop HB is a lot better than axe auto, havent really tried to get exact numbers but rough guess 50-60% more for HB, also higher mobility and evade.

Sorry for the horrible style very tired atm.

Post 1 and 3 – great work.

On sigils/runes – have you considered some more interaction between the two? For example, each rune has three specific sigils associated with it and wearing a full set of those runes would make each of those sigils grant some additional bonus (different for each of the sigils), maybe strengthen one of the rune effects.

On traits – my opinion is that the sudden and big changes like moving a trait from 10 to 30 or 5 to 25 really need to stop. Smaller changes at a much higher frequency would give you more room to experiment. Which is related to an another thing I wanted to talk about – sometimes, even with the best of intentions, you swing and you miss. When a change turns out differently then you expected it to, you should not be afraid to revert it or to keep tweaking it. Also, paying attention to traits that rarely, if ever, get used and replacing them is something that would definitely be well received.

Post 2 . . . :/

I can only speak for warrior, but we have been hurt in PvE almost every patch, and if you believe its justified then I can live with that, but . . . the kind of changes you keep making are really taking decisions away rather than creating more options. Example : Berserker’s Power and Heightened Focus both ending up at 30 points, making the
30/whatever/30 the only real choice. Also, trading PvE nerfs for PvP buffs is not the way to go. Shout buff could happily have occurred without hitting PvE yet again.

PvE splitting is nice, but I think the real takeaway here is that PvE is now finally getting considered for balance instead of ignored. And that is great.

+1

Right now I use 30/20/0/0/20, you can swap forceful greatsword for crack shot if you expect to stay ranged a lot + its underwater cooldown reduce, and I get a bigger freedom in discipline traits which I swap regularly to fit the occasion. But I will probably be using something else next week, depending on my mood.

I just had two friends quit the game within the past week because they could not afford to spend 2-4 hours every single day to get all dailies done. These friends were both hardcore – one with 12501 AP and other with 10339 AP.

I know people will say “You don’t HAVE to do all the dailies”. But, the truth is hardcore players will try to stay on the rankings and will try to do all of them every day.

I think a possible solution for this is to cap the PvE dailies at 10AP/day. This would let the game have more of the advertised “play how you want” feel.

I have a few suggestions that I believe could prove useful:

1) Get a Time Turner.

2) Use the incredible power of your imagination. Pretend there are only the first six achievements every day.

3) Hire a chinese farmer to do the dailies for you.

4) Manage your time better – includes not wasting it on forum QQ.

5) Get a Hobby – I suggest boxing, imagine you gain 1 Achievement Point every time you pound the bag and you will go through life so much happier.

Hope it helps <3

I decided to keep buying exotics from the TP and salvage them until I get my 10 globs. Used the X6-31 exotic harpoon gun for 1.4g with sigil of accuracy, resell for 60s.

Result: 1 2 0 1 0 0 3 0 0 3
Total cost ~ 8g. Mystic kit.

On the other hand you can make the boss go enrage after 5 stuns in a certain amount of time, getting stability, swiftness and 25stacks might for 10sec.

That would be a smart way to avoid stunlocks. Good suggestion!

+1 on this. Certain amount of time defined by a stackable buff. Each stack granting a partial bonus with 4 stacks making him quite a bit tougher. It would be desirable to keep bosses on 2 stacks max, but when you needed a sudden interrupt, you could still do it – but for the price of one more stack. 5 stacks would grant an unremovable enrage buff. What all this buff grants aside from stability could then be part of the difficulty of the encounter, first alternative to 25might coming to my mind was some strong regeneration.

PvE build advice: change to some defense?

For survivalability in dungeons and fractals, have your GF/wife roll a guardian.

On a more serious note, get rid of knights gear and run berserker/ruby orb.

Sometimes you need a stun breaker and sometimes condition removal or more dodge, so swap signet of fury for shake it off or signet of stamina. Identify the problems and learn to live with them instead of expecting one solve-it-all build.

Most of your encounter suggestions are about forcing the players what you want them to do in order to complete it. The idea right now is that, at least I hope it is from what Ive seen, that any group can complete any dungeon as long as they all know what to do, they just might not be as efficient about it.

Yes. Every team composition should be able to do it. If it can’t be done by 5 thieves, there should be a way to get an npcbuff or find an environmental weapon that can help out, even if suboptimal. (Preferably suboptimal to what players can have at their disposal from a dedicated build)

The idea of enlisting the help of an NPC that brings what you lack did cross my mind. Some optional quest that, at the end, gives you a choice between several helpers, each with different focus, so you can address a specific issue of your team composition.

I think it’s worth mentioning that it’s not only dodges: reflective skills in the current state of things are also extremely unhealthy for endgame PvE, as they completely trivialize encounters that would otherwise be challenging for the group:..

I share you concerns here. Reflects are a bit too powerful in many parts of the game. . .

I do think there is a bit of an issue with mobs using an attack that spreads like 5 bolts, destroying the wall rightaway and making this work just like giving everyone an aegis. Maybe a shorter duration could work better for many encounters? Or giving mobs some more piercing attacks? Perhaps the Wall of Reflection could even be %-based, stopping only half the attacks. Something could certainly be done to make reflects useful and unique as they are, but less overpowered.

Something could certainly be done . . . but certainly non of that which you are suggesting. All those changes would take away an important reason for using reflects – their reliability. They work well in weakening reflects against numerous targets, but when you need to block a specific ability in order to avoid faceplanting the lava . . . lets say its % based, you put up two walls, and yet you still wipe as the spell passes both of them. Shorter duration, that does not really work in favor of the idea of brains beating reflexes. Personally, I believe reflecting is one of the things that works well and should only be changed carefully. IF you see a problem there, I suggest you focus on proposing new boss abilities that are not as strongly countered by reflect rather than poking at the game mechanics.

Let me first mention that I really like GW2. A game with great potential. The game is still young and Anet has proven to be very ambitious, which is why I feel that this post is worth the effort.

First of all Id like to thank you for all the effort you put into an attempt to improve the game. That much said, I disagree with most of what you posted. Sometimes you start with the best of intentions, put a lot of effort in it, and yet the magic just doesnt happen.

I see a lot of ideas for dungeoneering, but consider this:

1) The same abilities have to stay viable for pvp/wvw.
2) New mechanics would require reworking all of the current dungeons.

Now as for healing, I agree that there could be forcefully made situations where you would have to heal a lot or die. And if the only way to do this would be to improve your own healing abilities, that would be great, and it would probably work well. But that would require the complete absence of skills that heal your allies, otherwise all the healing would be pushed off on some poor guardian healbot. The only way I see that possible is to make the only way to help allies some stacking version of regeneration, that would then heal them depending on their own healing power. But with the current mechanics, that would require large amounts of work, remaking all of the skills that heal allies into something else.

These were just a few of examples, your real problem is: In your revolutionary ideas, you do not consider the mechanics already in place and how much effort it would take to change them. If you would, you could see how most of your ideas (Part 6) are, Im afraid, worse than useless.

On smart players with bad reflexes, though, I completely agree there, we could use more encounters where outsmarting the boss counts for a lot more than outdodging him.

And of course, +1 for some creative uses of terrain.

One last thought just came to me. Most of your encounter suggestions are about forcing the players what you want them to do in order to complete it. The idea right now is that, at least I hope it is from what Ive seen, that any group can complete any dungeon as long as they all know what to do, they just might not be as efficient about it. Right now, players have a lot of freedom, including the freedom to bring 4 berserker warriors and a mesmer.

Greatsword Revamp + Burst HB!

Leave the auto-attack be, just increase the damage by 10-20 % or increase the amount of vuln stacks. Remove HB entirely, replace it with some frontal slash that does around 2x attack damage and applies weakness. Burst skill – stab your GS in the ground, creating a field that does damage, warriors definitely need some more of those, dark or lightning come to mind.
