If we did a test where you were on power ranger and I played every meta class against you, I would bet I would win every time. If I played power ranger and you got to play every meta class than I guarantee I would win at least 6/8, depending on your skill level 8/8. To me, that would suggest it isn’t power ranger that is strong nor that I’m a good player, but that you lack the ability to stand behind a wall, in a game mode where you can place yourself between the ranger, the wall, and the objective the ranger is trying to get to. That would mean, therefore, that it is a learn to play issue. I heavily encourage you to do so as many people don’t have problems with this class that you complain so much about. You also mention not seeing the ranger. This is again indicative of a learn to play issue, if you do not have the awareness to see a high dps class coming to kill you, then you deserve to die in this dog eat dog world of PvP that we have.

I also find your reasons to nerf ranger unsettling, “I’m bad, I die to ranger yet most people don’t, it makes the game unfun for me, please nerf it because I can’t learn to play”. Thought processes like this are what makes the community become toxic. Take some responsibility and learn to play, please.

You’re talking about dueling…. whats out of control is in conquest mode how much damage they do from so far away so easy. Other zerk classes have a much higher risk for the same reward/effectiveness.

The skill level it takes to play zerk shatter mesmer is much much much much greater then a zerk ranger… rewards are the same.

Yet 0 rangers on top teams? Every team has a thief, and often a mesmer… If ranger is easier and just as effective, why are there no rangers?

Do you read at all? It’s not about being effective, it’s about ranger being easy as hell and still being able to dish out lots damage. No one talks about 1v1’s, couldn’t care less about that. You might not have the experience as a soloquer but lots of us do. You think it’s fun to fight against power rangers who keep camping ledges the whole game without moving? No. Do you think it’s fun to have these players on my team? Hell no. Seriously, the most fun games are without a ranger on any side, but sadly lots people actually do play ranger. Do you know why? Exactly, because it’s that braindead. I really don’t care if rangers are overpowered or not, it’s a dumb build with nothing to offer. Most players playing ranger are so bad, they will waste their most important skills on blind, backpaddle from you while shooting you with LB with no distance, never bother press the kitten F when a teammate is down, never rotate. I’ve met only a few good rangers that I was actually happy to have on my team while I’ve met hundreds that I wish I never met.

If you want to play a build that requires no skill, go on, but I would much rather if they actually rework this class and make it viable AND skillful to play. But then again, half of the people crying here about rangers being too weak would cry it’s too hard.

And btw there is no valid reason for having a ranger over 1500 either.

Doubt it, they can hardly balance the game without water combat. If they brough it back, it would probably take a few years before it was sort of balanced.

One. Your naked or a light armor in zerk
Two. Your opponent. was a 66 longbow build with every available damage multiplier working as well as a good amount of might. (He has 100% endurance. And your being hit from behind=20% damage boost + multiple other damage modifiers)
Three. Your opponent was also complete glass.

What that means is he was running a built fairly similar to the old maul builds that used to be more common. Pop multiple damage modifiers (10% damage from endurance. 10% damage from flanking. 25% from SotW. As well as the signet of the hunt proc all at once) and make sure that one attack hits.

Which means you got wrecked by someone in a literally perfect situation. Im assuming he ganked you. Your probably died at about the same speed you would have if a good thief had ganked you.

That’s not the point. The point is you can do this as a ranger while sitting on the other side of map.

Realisticly it’d only happen in Hot Join zzz.
If a ranger just sit on the other side of map doing his stuffs, he either is a bad ranger, or your team suck and couldn’t force ranger to stand on cap point because all your nodes are being taken by enemies.

I know that recognizing someone is exaggerating from a written text can be difficult, but I imagined this was an easy one.

I don’t need exaggeration. My point is I have a much much easier time playing as an Engi or Warrior, and be successful than playing a power ranger. Almost any competent conditions/ celestial spec can eat my power ranger alive if I make one mistake.

The pro scene is tiny, it’s not an indication. Only a small handful of people bother with PvP long enough to play at that level, which is an indication enough that something is seriously off with how PvP is designed and balanced.

At entry level it makes absolutely no sense. Few people bother to take the time to understand the clusterkitten that is GW2 PvP as a result of this.

It’s not deep or complex like Dota2, just so badly designed that it only makes sense to a select few hardheaded fools who bother to play it long enough.

If you want to balance anything around Hot-Join, then any build will be OP.
My condition engi is insanely OP in hot-join, and can 1 v 2 most of the time lol.. I really don’t need to use ranger at all.
It’s pointless to argue with blind people.

I agree with this, but don’t forget that with the change they’re planning, lots builds will be able to bring self condition cleanse, so condition builds will still have a hard time and should be balanced around their condition application rather than nerfing shoutbow even though it is a tad too strong atm.

They could make Spinal Shivers not able to crit, like steal and then you wouldn’t get the SS + Air + Fire combo. I think it could help at least a bit, but ye it’s what i hate about power necros. The procs are too strong. It’s especially even more annoying that once you get them down, they might as well kill you in their downstate.

I’d much rather prefer to 100% actively mitigate dmg opposed to recovering from it when ever I felt like it. IMO it would be way cooler to have to intercept an attack in order to heal a good amount opposed to just healing to full when ever I feel like it. Wouldn’t it be cool if this is how sword functioned?

I don’t want another d/d ele like spec with sword. For the sake of the class I hope it’ll bring a viable dps build.

Actually in order to get damage like what’s displayed here the player had to have been using a 6/6 set up, which means they have no survival from their traits, and blew two utility skills for the damage spike. So this ranger’s entire survivability is summed up as one block on their greatsword, a 3 second stealth on hit, and 6 seconds of invuln from Signet of Stone.

Meanwhile any good thief build is going to have loads of stealth and far more mobility, making them harder to pin down and vastly harder to track. A thief has much, much better disengage potential and can easily reset the fight. Zerker ele has three powerful cantrip defenses, more mobility, and has more healing and party support built into the class baseline.

The main defense for thief is stealth. The main defense for ele is cantrips and heals. The main defense for power ranger is that incredible range. Without it they wouldn’t be playable.

That is true, however you forget the amount of cc ranger has. Also, the greatsword can block multiple attacks if played correctly, 6 second endure pain is quite strong, medium armour and hp pool…While thief has better ways of disengaging, the defenses are active and not as strong as Signet of stone for example. It’s great thief has stealth, but you have to play correctly, you might be forced to dodge in stealth, too since many attacks track stealth. So, I wouldn’t say ranger does not have many defensive utilities. Also, the fact it has so much range is the reason why it’s so braindead.

Go try one in tournament, you hot-join heroes. Just go try it and see how successful and easy you can be.

Yes, no one runs zerker ele in pvp. Only half of people who play ele.

PvP match with character gear

You have wvw for that. You say it would be more interesting, while it would allow players to have an advantage over others who do not have as good gear. It’s structured pvp for a reason and I see no point in having yet another queue when the population is quite low. Also, there couldn’t really be any rewards as it wouldn’t be fair to players who cannot afford the best gear.

I assume the issue is not having both EA’s rather than not being able to go 6 in Arcana. The master traits are pretty bad.

So you’d still exclude 2 or 3 classes every day, how does that fix the problem?

Well my suggestion was to have 3 dailies, one light armor, one medium, one heavy. That includes every profession.

Then whats the point of having any achievement at all lol? Thats basically saying win a match.

And how is ‘’win a match as a ranger or thief’’ any achievement? It would be much better for the state of pvp if it was just ‘’win 3 games’’ for example.

stealth doesnt stack. If i get 2 sec stealth and prolong it with shadow Refuge it will end after 2 sec anyway, Rly fun patch, i can see the trend right now, 1st making shortbow 5th skill unusable due to “no valid path”, now breaking stealth, lets nerf thiefs on HP and DMG and later lets delete thiefs why not, i know its fun to break them patch after patch but there should be end to it.

Just want to clear the misconception of them “nerfing” shortbow 5. The port changes did not affect any port locations, it just prevents you from wasting initiative on a port that would fail anyway. The port changes made in that patch were a quality of life change that significantly improved the game – not the opposite. Stop spreading misinformation please.

Yeah, that’s what I wanted to point out, it was an improvement to all ports rather than a nerf and not only for thieves. It’s great when my Lightning flash does not go on full cooldown just because there was no LOS.

However, I think this is just a bug, there is no way this was meant to happen.

I’ll call bs on Shadow where he says Roamer getting kills gets the least points. If you’re getting kills, you’re getting points. Usually Roamers rake the most points from my experience.

I do agree with you, however sometimes you might not get points for the kills. It happened to me a few times when I was moving between two points and got the kills, but the players were left to bleed out and in the end I wasn’t recognized as someone who killed them, too.

No, usually you let people bleed out if it’s possible because you prevent them from playing for quite a long time.

Ah, sure, but you still have to make sure they don’t heal and rally. Which would keep the kill for you, no?

Not if you move between points and it takes quite a lot of time before they actually die. This happens when you +1 people on different nodes and move between those.

19/5/15 Patch and Dailies

I agree with you. It’s better than before, but it’s still bad. I would much more prefer ‘’Win x matches’‘. Randomized dailies wouldn’t be too bad, but again it would encourage players to play something they’re not familiar with and could be too hard to code.

But against an experienced ele, 1v1, they would just LF out of sight and return RTL in under 20 sec.

Meanwhile you’ve capped the point and have points ticking in. It will take a while for an ele to beat you like this, by which time you can get +1d.
It’s extremely hard for an ele to stay on point and 1v1 a necro with a high amount of life force.

…and wasted a 180 sec cooldown, which can turn a team fight around for a 1v1.

I’m still completely clueless as to what you’re talking about.

Previously there were 2 standard dailys and 2 class specific dailys.
There are now 2 standard dailys and 2 dailys that each allow a choice between two classes. This means in order to get your 3 dailys, you need to play 1 our of 4 classes rather than 1 our of 2.

What I mean is that you can do your dailies while playing one class. However, some people finish all 4 dailies for the reward track booster, so it means they’re playing on a profession they do not know twice for the daily.

That’s not any worse than the current system. There’s twice as much chance that at least one of those two dailys will include a class that they play.

I know, I was just explaining what I meant. I understand the chance is lower, but it’s still only half of the classes in the dailies, so there will be quite a lot of people playing classes they do not know. Obviously it’ll be better than the older system, but I just don’t understand why the dailies have to be class specific, winning a number of games would be much better and people wouldn’t be forced to play something they do not know. Or anything else, there was many suggestions how to fix this.

I don’t understand what you mean by this. Surely the change makes it twice as likely for people to get a class they play as a daily?

I think it would be a good idea to implement a tutorial for new players that would actually help them to understand the basics of available maps in pvp. There have been lots suggestion for this and I think it would be beneficial for both experienced and inexperienced players.

I’m getting tired of people arguing that:

1. Going for NPC right after the start on forest in 2+ people is so great, BECAUSE IT GIVES 25 POINTS. They will argue that that’s how you win and call you kittened if you tell them it’s not such a good idea.

2. Going for lord before even hitting 350 points on legacy and leaving the team outnumbered everywhere is the best thing to do.

3. Capping ferocity is SO useful.

4. Guarding trebuchet in two people will win the game.

It’s really furstrating, they won’t listen to you even if you tell them nicely. I believe if there was a tutorial for each map, they wouldn’t do these mistakes over and over.

Just a FYI when these changes occur you will be running 3.0.3.0.3 meaning you still get teh full ‘6’ in arcana

I assume the issue is not having both EA’s rather than not being able to go 6 in Arcana. The master traits are pretty bad.

my point is you can win vs engi or ele… and no they don’t have to make 10000 mistakes for it, you just have to play perfectly as thief

I would say even if you play perfectly you might lose if you’re against someone who knows what he’s doing, but everyone can have a different opinion.

I think this might be connected to the similar issue when you join a queue and your game freezes. People have stated it is not tied to a bad graphic card/driver/connection and it’s also account specific.

Yes, you possibly could but they must be doing one mistake after another. They will just simply outsustain you. Landing burst on these classes is not really hard. But again, it will take too long anyway and you’ll just waste time instead of doing something useful.

Well if the thief is patient and just keeps resetting till enemy gets bored and eventually makes a mistake, then yes thief can win any 1v1. They can reset against any class quite easily while no other class can reliably reset against them but this isn’t really all that important in the grand scheme of things other than wvw trolling.

Haha, have you ever played a thief? The fact they can reset does not mean they will win the 1v1. They have very little chance of winning a 1v1 against a d/d ele, shoutbow, cele engi, heavy condition builds, dps guard…don’t need to go on. These classes will have more sustain and the thief won’t be able to take them down at all nor any time soon. Not even speaking of the fact that if thief does this in pvp, his team is basically playing 4v5 and he’s being useless. In wvw for trolling possibly, but hardly for anything in pvp.

Ele’s weaknesses is continuous pressure from range and keeping clear of his 240 radius attacks.

Ranger’s and Mesmers have the best chances of beating him 1v1 for sure. He’s vulnerable to conditions if you work around his Water attunement… but not so much if he’s in a group as every Regen he applies to a teamate will cleanse a condition (needs an icd, please). Most of an ele’s sustains comes from mobility through peels. Lock him down for the win.

oh and @Supreme.3164 Elementalist / Slick shoes Engi / Shoutbow / DPS guard are all in the same level :]

Gerdian is not on the same level as engi and ele in a 1v1 standoff. They kite guards so hard, they’ll win 99% of the time.

The fact that d/d ele will kill a dps guardian does not mean that it’s not on the same lvl, just saying. Shoutbow will most likely beat a d/d ele in a 1v1, yet they’re on the same level. DPS guard is very forgiving for a zerker spec with its high sustain, lots condition cleanse and crazy dps. Obviously in team fights it’s a bit different but yeah.

Nerfing is not a solution! Buffing may be!

That’s a hyperbole if I ever saw one. You should never ever advocate buffing over nerfing. It will eventually reach a point where fights basically become tic-tac-toe with win-button skills. And that is horrible.

Queues used to be split for team and solo. It did not turn out well. People found a way to abuse the system (sync queuing, playing during non-peak hours for easy wins, etc).

It wasn’t any better than the current system.

It was, you didn’t have to face premades all the time if you happened to queue solo, which is pretty demoralizing. I don’t really care about people syncing queues, it’s still random, at least I didn’t have to be on losing streaks due to being queued against the same premade several times.

There are several ways to work this out. However, they do not want eles to have access to both Evasive Arcana and Elemental Attunement.

I think the devs need to remove that mindset. The opportunity cost of not using evasive arcana is too great to pass it up.

Possibly yeah. I don’t think it would be that bad if there were actually some good master traits in arcana and many of minor traits weren’t complete trash (Zephyr’s Speed, Lingering Elements, Arcane Precision…)

By not nerfing things that are truly overpowered, but rather buffing some other things, you’re asking for a major power creep.

I agree sometimes people ask for unreasonable nerfs, but it’s important to actually not let things go too far and from time to time there are skills/specs that need to be toned down.

I suggest you to go and play all other profession…maybe then you’ll get an idea of what it means to face a cele d/d ele and what counterplay means

There is very little timeframe where you can actually harm the ele using a d/d cele build and that would be no problem at all if that small timeframe would be a direct consequence of the player skill level..which is not now

The ele community has grown too comfortable with the cele meta, all concepts of strafing, positioning, strategy, team play are all inevitably lost; your typical ele these days will just rush head first in the fight with perma protection/vigor, that’s too strong and I’m glad is gone.

Depends, what do you want it for?

If pvp, then go cele.
If pve, then don’t do it.
If wvw, probably mix of zerker armour and defensive trinkets.
If for trolling, nomad/cleric is your choice.

The new might on cantrip with reg/vigo on cantrip and removing condition on reg ele should never have a condition on them longer then 1/2 of a sec lol. 60660 d/d ele or even staff ele should be mostly unstoppable by any type of chill.

If you go 60660, then you have one condition cleanse on each utility, which are on pretty high cooldown and water 5. Also you might take soothing ice, but thats random and you don’t know what it’s going to remove. It’s really not more cleanse than what ele has now.

You have 4 to 5 base line if they add in the cantrip heal / elite that 2 more and if you count the fire one beyond its passive effect that 3 more. The reg on crit is 1 too. So you will have about 7 ish in a 30 sec window maybe more.

You seriously cannot count elite when no one uses elemental.

Its 4 if you use 3 cantrip in your bar and use the passive cantrip from 4 in fire then its 3 more from that passive. You can get one more from passive EoA this is where the 4-5 base line comes from at least from cantrips. The added note is that they may be making a heal a cantrip and an eliet. Then you get the get reg every time your crit on a 10 sec cd for another condition removal. Just going 6 in water is a very powerful anty condition line Fire line give you one “ok” removal and Earth give you one “bad” removal if you go that way and one “good” temp. hard counter.

Oh, you don’t know what a baseline is, that explains it.

Let’s count together, what ele will have when going 60660:

1. Burning Fire, which cleanses 3 conditions, will be probably on 40 (?) cd and is passive, might be wasted on one stack of bleeding, cripple..etc. Also, it’s bugged and does not count as a cantrip.
2. One condition removal on 60 sec. (Armour of earth)
3. Two on 32 second cooldown (LF and Cleansing Fire)
4. One on 10 sec cd (Soothing Ice)

What ele has now:
1. One for attuning to water 9 sec cd (Elemental Attunement)
2. One condition removal on 75 sec. (Armour of earth)
3. Two on 40 second cooldown (LF and Cleansing Fire)
4. One on 10 sec cd (Soothing Ice)
5. One for dodging in Water 9 sec cd (Evasive Arcana)

So yeah, your new awesome cleanse build has less removal than the current d/d ele.

The cd for all cantrips will be -20% becuse of them combining reg/vigor on cantrip and -20% so your numbers are a bit off. Also 4 in earth gives you -33% movement effects.
Are you talking about befor the update or after the update becuse you cant have both dodging in water and swamping to water to removing conditions so its one or the other.

Yeah, that’s included there. Notice the difference in cooldowns, but they’re still pretty high and I’m talking now, hence why there is ‘’what ele has now’‘. I already said why Geomancer’s training is not great.

Well if your going off of what ele has now you cant have -20% cdr to cantrips and reg on crit hit. The cdr is far better then just 1 reg every 10 sec most of the time. Also your only working with 14 points now but you get 18 points (well 9 that works out to the old 18) after the update changing things. Mostly that you can get an cantrip burning fire and still go all the way in water and earth / ar if you wanted.

Please, read the post again and notice I included the cooldown reduction in the future spec and didn’t do it in the current spec. I was working with 18 points, not 14.

So wait your using current effects but with the points of what to come? You cant do that becuse your making things up at that point. See your making things WAY more confusing then you need to. If we are talking about Reaper we are talking about future spec ONLY to talk about current spec at all is to waist time.

OR is this just a hidden rages agen the ar changes? becuse you realty should be upfront about it if it was. Your going to just confuse your views and no one will have any ideal what you believe.

I wasn’t making this up, nor making anything confusing but you should really read the post again. I was comparing the spec you suggested and current meta d/d ele spec and proved why your spec does not have more condition cleanse than current d/d ele.
