Why are rangers unable to do liadri fight

in Living World

Posted by: Larynx.2453

Larynx.2453

Liadri isn’t a DPS race. It’s about playing smart and not getting hit by avoidable damage. Losing 20% of your DPS because you can’t control your pet is not what is causing you to be unable to do the fight. I promise.

Change your build and play better. Simple as that. Just because there’s content in the game you can’t face-desk with 149 other people doesn’t mean your class is bad.

Says the guy who only plays zerker warrior, you can’t “control your pet” to avoid Liadri 1 shooting it. You MIGHT be able to get the pet to last until phase 2 and get 2 autos off, but that’s pushing it.

Also, the pet contributes AT LEAST 30% of your damage, unless you’re running a bear and 6/6/x/x/0 zerker, then it might be like 25%.

Well I mean I beat it on a thief autoattacking with shortbow. Are you really going to tell me a dedicated ranger build does less DPS at range than a thief without clusterbomb? on top of having less health and less HPS.

Not that it’s even a DPS race to begin with…

Except that you are on a timer.

It also takes about 20-30s to kill Liadri in phase 2.

It’s only a DPS race if you’re cleric or soldier.

I know what I am talking about.

I bet you do. Thanks for letting me know. Don’t blame the class for your own failings, Liadri is almost trivial if you know how to play to game. It is mechanically simple, and requires about a minute, two minutes maximum, of concentration. If you get fatigued after that long, I’m really concerned.

How about instead of moaning on the forum, in a thread where you’ll get no sympathy, with devs who won’t give it a second thought, you actually go kill Liadri.

I’m really curious what you think is so hard, specifically, about Liadri.

What made mage/rogue work in wow was their amazing abilities to kite, reset and burst. As far as I can remember that was the only class combo that would work without a dedicated healer in 3’s.
So translate that into GW2 and you would have the most self sufficient proff’s in a 2/3 v deathmatch. As far as I can tell that would be warrior/thief/ele or mesmer; though ele might suffer with its lack of ability to reset completely.
I think this is also the reason a larger more complex BG would be more fun as well as promote more diversity

Most hybrids could do it, especially Druids and Paladins.

More like translation: Anyone with sufficient control of a fight or sustain/support. Every class, maybe besides necro, has a build that fits this.

25 stacks might is simply a boon, which can be removed very easily.

it is just that people are lazy to do so.

introduce better ways to strip boons instead of asking for nerfs.

It’s much stronger than any other type of Rune, nothing even comes close to provide you access to a thousand more stats. What you are asking for is power creep, which we don’t want. Nerf it instead.

it is only strong if the user managed to stack 25 stacks of mights.

oh, there can be better ways to remove boons without more power creep.

I’ll also add this: if they didnt nerf Lyssa Runes, (most) people would still be using them.

Rune of Strength is simply the best Runeset for dealing damage. It is simply “the best” runeset for Elementalists, Warriors and Thieves.
Same thing can be said for Rune of Balthazar for condi Engineers, rune of the Nightmare for Condi Necros, or Rune of the Soldier for Bunker Guardians.

I want to say that even for condi engi, Rune of Strength + Sigil of Battle is better than Rune of Balthazar now. Not only you have much stronger burning per tick, a much stronger direct damage on attack, you also are less susceptible to condition clearer because you don’t have to rely on having the burning going for full duration to reap the benefits. That’s only part of it, with increased condition damage, it also benefits your other conditions, rather than just burning.

Rune of Strength is really overpowered, and people recognize it. As soon as the patch went live, price of a Rune of Strength increased from a few silvers to 13 gold a piece. Now it’s 14 gold and still going up. In pvp, Rune of Strength is “the” rune, since it doesn’t cost gold to buy.

Actually that’s because Ruby Orbs became terrible, and Runes of Strength are now the best pure DPS runeset for unorganized PUGs in PvE. The strength duration is almost irrelevant.

that includes the rifle.

Anything is better than rifle. It does less damage than any other weapon (including longbow), even on single target.

Can give you actual numbers for why Longbow is better than Rifle single target?

With rifle, over 30 sec, you can use:
2 brutal shots (0.5)
3 volleys (3)
20 bleeding shot (0.4)
1 fully charged kill shot (3.25)
so if you add up the coefficients it will make 21.25 total

With longbow:
18 dual shots (0.66)
5 fans of fire (1.2)
3 arcing arrows (2)
for a total of 23.88

Rifle has a slightly higher weapon damage, but it isn’t enough to make up for the difference.

You’re ignoring base damage, conditions (8 vuln on rifle, bleed on rifle, pin down on longbow), rifle 5 (DPS increase over autoattack), and traits (in the case of using kill shot especially).

I mean, really? Power coefficients? That’s ALL you use? Rifle is kittenty, but give it a fair comparison.

Autoattack AFK in a zerg is very dynamic and interesting gameplay…

When someone can literally tab out for 30-60 seconds at a time, not die, and do 90% optimal performance, you done messed up somewhere.

This has no relevance to the topic at hand. Nobody is asking for that, and you can do that anyways if you like with the current events.

The title of the post is “Don’t hate on the zerg” and the entire content of the OP is about how you shouldn’t hate on the zerg.

The zerg, in GW2, is what I described. The “core” content of the game is spamming 1 semi-AFK, that is zerging in GW2. Zerging is inherently boring due to the nature of having that many players. In order for the content to be doable, the content needs to be trivial and require very little mechanical effort.

See 40+ man raiding in any MMO ever. Individual effort is basically showing up.

ArenaNet can take active steps to improve the bosses that are being zerged, and I sincerely hope we see more mechanically challenging (I use it very loosely) fights like we see in the QP. Zerging would still be boring though, since it’s lenient content designed for groups of casual, uncoordinated, and frankly bad players.

Unless my grasp on the English language is flawed, discussion about zergs in a thread with a title and OP about zerging is extremely relevant to the topic at hand.

Something to take away from that video, she played unnecessarily defensively in phase 2. Using a greatsword to range her down while kiting her in phase 2 is better than just letting phantasms tickle her.

The shorter the fight lasts, the less chance you have to make a mistake. Pick a ranged weapon and just do semi-circles around the room.

Bad content with bad rewards is not fun.

Is that better? Zerging is still not fun, but at least there’s a point to it.

Thats my point, yes. Its nice I suppose that they figured out how to stop zergs. They apparently idnt put any thought into making it worth our while to do so though.

Zergs aren’t inherently bad, I’ll say though. A lot of these fights, ironically, are very good world bosses/champions. All of them have some sort of mechanic that an individual player needs to pay attention to. There’s no safety in numbers, but at the same time your life isn’t based on some RNG-one shot mechanic with no telegraph. Things like the Ogre fight and Centaur fight especially are really interesting, and we need more interesting mechanics that encourage people to play an active role in the fight, instead of autoattacking and watching TV.

wow, such helpful. -.-
obviously i did that. using aoe would be amazingly stupid. i pulled, i pushed and still after 2-3 attacks there are 2-3 slimes around him again. you can’t not attack until the single target skill recast is over (or you have gained some initiative) because you simply don’t have that time while 20 slimes are attacking you.

I can’t really offer anything more in-depth than that advice since it took me a grand total of one attempt to do. Mechanically there’s not much to describe. Position yourself or the boss in a way such as to not kill the adds. Killing him very quickly likely is the best solution.

You can cleave the adds. On my attempt, there were at least two adds under 10% health. They aren’t squishy, so you don’t need to constantly try to avoid hitting them.

You’re a thief, so instead of invulnerability you’ll need to use reflects and blinds. Try Thieve’s Guild + Hide in Shadows + Smokescreen + Haste with a 25/30/0/0/15 zerker or whatever backstab uses build.

I can make a celestial warrior work, and it’s actually a very competent build. There’s a difference between making the best of a situation, and being optimal.

Good players don’t sacrifice efficiency at the cost of having a quirky build. For some people, running what is best is what is fun. Running something that has some minor thematic appeal at the cost of their team’s success is not fun for them.

PvP players are a very exclusive clique, and they’re usually not helpful sources of information. Yet, without knowing the general strategies used in the higher levels of PvP, new players can’t realistically play the game. sPvP has a huge learning curve, and there’s nothing to help climb that hill.

It was completely broken since the average player could exploit the mob pathing, but instead of fixing it ArenaNet just cut it completely.

Really IMO the issue with GW2 PvE is that the content is too easy. Most enemies are giant meatbags which one or two shot players (making Zerker so attractive) and have barely any mechanics. Most of the content can be soloed even.

Compare the most difficult content GW2 has to offer to something like heroic raiding in WoW. There’s a very specific demographic that ArenaNet refuses or is unable to appeal to, but it’s okay because most players want to spam 1 and complete the dungeon in 10 minutes.

No racial skills has a type attached to it, (except for the norn ones, that are transforms. But no trait/rune/sigil interacts with transform skills) to prevent a race from gaining an advantage in playing a profession.

So if I follow your logic, why does Asura Rangers get a 6sec stun with technobable? Why does the Sylvary Guardians can easely stack up to 25 vulnerabilities with grasping vines? Not to mention Hiden pistol works with Mobile Strike sinds it is a mobility skill, so that shouldn’t happen either! So explain me why should other racials have synergies with class traits while Battle Roar shouldn’t?

Not to mention, Guardian, Rangers and Warrior shouts get the benefits out of runes of the Trooper, they are not of the same professions but are still in the same category, shouldn’t it make sense for Battle Roar to also work with those runes and be categorised as a Shout?

If you want racials defining your character, play a different MMO. It’s literally as simple as that. Racials are flavor, and are never meant to be better than profession skills.

0/30/20/0/20 or 0/20/20/0/30 Mace/Shield + Greatsword is really the best 1v1 build. Unfortunately anyone with half a brain or stability will counter it.

Hammer is objectively worse in every way to Mace 1v1, taking an Axe defeats the purpose of it being a greatsword build (since you will never actually use 100B, and without 100B Greatsword does far less damage than axe), and longbow isn’t really that good in a situation like WvW where they aren’t forced to stand in your AoE.

Mainhand sword is actually probably better than all three of those weapon options, and it’s a really old takeaway from the pre-Frenzy nerf days. I wouldn’t really recommend it though over mace. It works vs stun breaks and stability, but you sometimes get a animation bug when weapon swapping during the F1, you don’t get the benefit of Unsuspecting Foe, and they can still use abilities (blocks, evades, etc) during it. It’s harder to dodge than skullcrack, I guess.

If you’re in a situation where you don’t need mobility, any axe build will beat a GS build. More damage + More frequent burst phase + Less cost for missing each burst. When factoring in the cast time of 100B, Eviscerate + autos also technically about the same damage as 100B too.

Don’t worry almost nobody that says things like this has any idea what they are talking about. I also promise the warriors that say they have 3k armor don’t.

Answer is thick skin.

Thick skin is an extremely deceptive minor trait that makes your armor look like its 100 more than what it really is. Its also very useless.

Dolyack Signet is an extremely deceptive signet that makes your amor look like is 180 more than what it really is. Once you used it its also very useless.

If you have 2800 armor base line without any of these traits or sigents you are fine. Somewhere someplace someone said that 2800 Armor roughly translates into 33% damage reduction.

If someone is using this trait and that signet and they say they have 3k armor they dont.

But if you have 2800 armor and you are using any of this stuff you don’t have 2800 armor.

25 to 30 points in Defense + Valkyrie or Soldier is over 3,000 armor.

~3350 OOC – 280 = 3070 armor in combat.

Taking toughness as a primary stat will make it even higher, obviously.

Go to a point and 1v1 the Mesmer. Cap the point after about 30 seconds. Die 5 minutes later with the Mesmer thinking he accomplished something.

Any other profession build, maybe with the exception of really unviable stealth-spam Thief builds like P/D, are perfectly reasonable to fight 1v1. Mesmers have so many escape tools that trying to actually kill them is a waste of time since a good one will never die.

You know what, stealth in general. No real counter-play to it. Completely invisible, isn’t broken on CC, isn’t broken on damage, most sources are difficult or impossible to prevent. On top of that, they’re not even that good in high level play besides something like D/P (which is hardly a stealth spam build).

A really, really good damage Guardian, as rare as they are, actually is a good counter to a lot of Warrior builds. I can’t say they’re annoying though, but definitely an interesting 1v1.
