The team with the most personal score wins the event of a tie.
Hey guys, I can kill people without wearing statless armor.
Some people will let the enemy team neutralize and cap the points for 20 points. The enemy will then let them recap it, and so on. It’s just a method of glory farming.
I would not recommend doing it, however.
“You won’t find many threads like this in the elementalist forum.
And yes. Thieves have stupid burst.”
Most likely because the majority of people playing the profession are not very good. A good Ele is a god.
“That said, there was one time I was capping Waterfall, saw a thief running up. I had seen this thief earlier in the fight, and new she used the Devourer > Steal > Haste > Pistol Whip combo. So, I dodged as soon as I expected the steal. And there she was just slashing…at the air.
Turned around, CnD > Steal > Assassin’s Signet > Backstab, dead. "
You’re obviously lying, seeing as how Steal has a ~30-45 second cooldown, and seeing as how the steal would both be redundant and break the stealth from CnD.
I think it’s fine, and I actually really dislike LoL’s voice actor. Your opinion is just that.
Hello, I am looking for a group to do tournaments with. My homeserver is Sanctum of Rall, but I don’t care what the group’s homeserver is.
About me:
- In school
- (however) lots of free time due to how it’s set up. I can play virtually any time of the week
- US/East Coast
- English
- Skype/Teamspeak/Mumble/Vent for VOIP in order of preference
I want to do competitive PvP in Guild Wars 2 once it is enabled. My prior experience is primarily WoW arena, at anywhere between 2000-2400 rating depending on the time period. I have no experience in WoW rated BGs. Other than WoW, I do competitive Tribes, and I played SWTOR very heavily for a few months (rank 50ish in powertech). Other than WoW and Tribes though, I don’t have any competitive experience, and most PvP games (SC2 for example) are mostly casual.
Currently I am sporadically doing tournaments with a small guild of friends in GW2. I want a more competent group however, since we’re mostly guessing and learning from our mistakes. It’s difficult though, since there’s no MMR, to know if what we did was a bad strategy or if the other team is just miles ahead of us.
At the moment I am mixed between a ranger (shortbow-condition & GS/longbow-power), thief (backstab-roamer), and warrior (Hammer/100B & sword/axe/longbow-conditon). I can of course change my build to whatever is suitable for the comp, or change professions. The only profession I don’t feel comfortable playing is a mesmer, since it’s the only one that isn’t immediately obvious for me. I can learn it, but it would take a few weeks. My rank is 23.
I’m of course not the best player and can’t promise anything like that, but my main motivation is just to learn and get better. I can’t do that my current set-up, since everything is either not a challenge, such as fighting a random person in hot-join or in a PUG, or I get destroyed so badly I learn nothing from the experience, such as fighting any good premade. Whenever my group encounters these, we try to emulate the strategies, but that really doesn’t help us because of what I already listed above. We don’t know if we did something right if we get destroyed every time by better teams.
What I want from the group
I’m not expecting anything like Paradigm or Super Squad, but I’m looking for a group who are at least competent, have prior PvP experience and current PvP experience in GW2. A good indicator of the “skill” of what I’m looking for: beats PUGs incredibly easily with a large success rate, and at least puts up a very good fight or wins versus the majority of premades.
I want a US-English guild, timezone is irrelevant though. West coast, east, central, or mountain work just fine.
You need to do frequent tournaments, with at least several a week. Majority members as well should probably have around 20+ rank as well, as that demonstrates that the members have done tournaments/sPvP fairly frequently.
My set up:
- Keybinds
- Logitech G600
- Asus 1680×1050 primary monitor (game window)
- Random 1280×1024 Dell monitor as a secondary (internet, ect.)
- Cheap Logitech keyboard
- 8 GB RAM
- i5 760 @ 2.80 GHz
- single Radeon HD 6850
- Scenic view of concrete wall

You’re just in luck, not a single one of the abilities listed involves spamming one ability. Rather, the entire fight is a preparation to set up that single ability. No, rangers do not spend the entire fight desperately mashing that 1 key. No, Thieves don’t spam their 3.
And I worry for you if you honestly get caught in “100B spam”.
I do find it humorous that people honestly consider shortbow rangers as just following the FOTM or OP. I’ve been running this build since release, and that’s news to me.
I really want Precision/Condition Damage/Vitality. ._.
In order for tPvP: Mesmer -> Guardian -> Thief
In actual 1v1s: Thief -> Mesmer -> Ranger -> Engineer
Necros, Eles, Warriors I really never have any issues with at all. I’ve seen some pretty fantastic bunker necros, though.
This is primarily from the perspective of my ranger, and I typically use some shortbow/condition variant or a greatsword power build.
1+1+1+1=3 btw.
(edited by Larynx.2453)
That warrior build is absolutely horrible, and the ranger one isn’t that far off.
^really? rangers are under-powered? Crossfire is one of the most BS skills in this game. When its combined with haste its like a fricking machine gun that apply 10-25 stacks of bleeds. But it only applies if your at the side or behind!!!! NO acaully as long as your not directly infront of them it applies bleeds. Rangers are one of the best pvp classes at them moment
Literally one stack of confusion or having retaliation completely destroys a shortbow ranger. The rate of fire is actually its greatest weakness.
And countering their quickness burst is also ridiculously easy. Reflection can do a ridiculous amount of damage if they have autofire on.
Want to know something? I played a shortbow ranger build for a while. I thought Engineers and Mesmers were incredibly overpowered. Turns out it was just a profession that countered me. There’s a moral to this story.
(edited by Larynx.2453)
I think it’s more of an issue with toughness. How much toughness do you have? I’m guessing somewhere in the 900-1,000 range?
Oh, I forgot about that. I know there’s that prec/condi/toughness amulet. He might be using that.
You know you can control the angle of the dodge, right?
This discussion is almost as pointless as the original one. I seriously can not believe you really care.
Sorry, I’ll fix the tone for you. My bad.
I’m pretty sure the LDB build would also qualify for a bunker build. I don’t have any experience playing it though.
Necromancers have the highest base health of any profession besides warriors. You’re running with a near zero vitality build. You should have 25-30k health.
Yes, that’s a lot of damage, and I can’t tell you to learn to play since it is near instant and from stealth. Backstab has its own issues, but you shouldn’t say Necromancers are terrible.
At the moment, there’s no underpowered profession. Mesmers, thieves, and necros weren’t utilized much during the beta, but now two of those three are on almost every team.
It’s less a balance issue, and more an experience issue. The meta is only a month old. No one can really say, especially considering the massive differences between the builds of each profession. Sure, thieves might be ranked #1 according to you, but why? Because you repeatedly get destroyed by glass cannons? How is that reason to rank them as the best profession? Can they support, can they control, are they good at point defense, what about sustained damage, or conditions?
No, I doubt you’d be able to answer those questions in relation to every other build for every other profession.
Like the poster above me. Warriors can’t do anything besides greatsword builds? Exactly my point. Warriors have an amazing choice when it comes to building. The only thing they might lack is support. But want to know something? I’m probably wrong. I’m not going so far as to say warrior are great at support or have the ability to support. I’m saying we shouldn’t make any conclusion yet on the capabilities of each profession.
(edited by Larynx.2453)
Didn’t I say that already?
My first lines were in regards to
“Learn to dodge.
No, I will not stop saying to use one of the fundamental combat mechanics. DODGE THEM. You can completely destroy a Hundred Blades warrior, incredibly easily, if you dodge. Dodge the Bull’s Rush. Dodge the Eviscerate. Dodge the Bolas. Punish them for using Quickness.”Saying dodge as the counter for everything. Its too often the response people give on these forms. It’s not helpful for people who are actually interested in learning how to counter these specs. They will only get frustrated when they think that only a good dodge can save them. If you cut out those first two paragraphs I would have quoted you and just said “^this”.
I didn’t say dodge was the counter for everything? I don’t even understand the point of this. Out of context, sure I said that? How does that matter?
I’m sorry you dislike the semantics and structure of my reply.
I’ve seen plenty of bunker builds for thieves. They typically utilize the sword and evasion. I don’t think they’re better than the typical builds, but they’re still viable.
Simple solution to Autobalance issues:
- When somebody volunteers to join the other team, they automatically receive the win bonus regardless of game outcome
- You do not get autobalanced off if your team has 400> points, unless there’s less than a 25 point difference between the two.
Going on the assumption you only have 21k health as a necromancer, I think the issue is more about you being a glass cannon, and complaining about being killed by another glass cannon.
Don’t get me wrong, thieves are incredibly stupid to fight right now… but you might want to look at alternative builds before complaining Necromancers aren’t viable in sPvP…
My maximum is only around 350. o_O
I don’t even know how it’s possible to get 700+.
I have asked around my world and I have searched these forums and google, but I am still unable to find a purpose for Glory.
I was under the impression that Glory was to be used to purchase PvP gear, but then I realised it is only used to by new skins for sPvP gear. Hopefully, I am completely wrong and just cannot find the proper information, but I would like to clarify what I know.
There is currently only 1 way to get new gear for WvW PvP and that is through PvE content. Is this a correct statement? If so, does anyone else find this bad design?
Welcome to Guild Wars, not Gear Wars, where everyone is at equal footing.
Learn to dodge.
Punish them for using Quickness..
Despite being right about how easy it is to destroy a 100b warrior. I really hate all the focus on dodging. It just doesn’t do justice to the game. You can blind so the charge misses, you can chill so his charge takes so long that you can strafe out of the way. There are defensive skills to be utilized like protection or invuls, stun breakers can be used, or teleports. You can gain distortion if your a mesmer without a dodge left. What more can be said.
Didn’t I say that already?
“There’s no reason you should ever lose to a warrior with that build unless you have terrible latency. If they manage to immobilize you, bring a defensive cooldown. Use Shield Stance, use Protect Me, use Mist Form. Don’t complain about someone killing you because you didn’t bring a utility. It’s foolish to ever not bring some form of invulnerability or stun break.
You don’t even have to dodge. There’s tons of evasion or block abilities in the game. Every single profession has at least one."
Guardian full heal also has like, 5 a second cast time.
Because that would be ridiculous.
Please stop saying “Learn 2 dodge/Learn 2 play”. If you do, you’ve obviously either not come across this kind of stuff yet, or you are abusing it. And people seem to forget you only get 2 dodges before your Endurance has to recharge.
Learn to dodge.

The typical fight for me fighting a 100B?
Signet of Rage -> Bull’s Rush -> Frenzy -> Hundred Blading air -> Dazed -> Dead because he took 50% more damage.

I’ve personally played a 100B warrior in over 100 tournament wins, and played from the position of a ranger fighting 100B warriors in over 100 tournament wins. Yes, I have come across and abused this plenty of times. It’s not an issue at all. I’ve even encountered incredibly good warriors in tournaments against teams like Super Squad and Legacy and vVv. Want to know the outcome? They did slightly better than a random in Hot-join.
The only annoying build I can even potentially understand complaints from are Dagger/Dagger backstab thieves. But that has absolutely nothing to do with quickness.
Moa probably needs changes to make it more obvious, as right now it is incredibly difficult to avoid in the heat of battle with clones and particle effects going off everywhere. And nevermind if they STEALTH.
Portal needs changes, in my opinion. It’s making stacking Mesmers far too important, and this is especially so with Treb- > Repair. I can’t think of a single team I’ve lost to on Khylo that didn’t bring at least one mesmer.
(edited by Larynx.2453)
I still can’t fathom why developers continue to add stealth classes to their games. The only people who don’t get frustrated andkitten off at them are the people who play them.
Especially when they’re the typical, “Kill you before you can react from stealth”.
Oh. I guess… I guess you beat me. Oh well.
It’s just not fun. I have an incredible success rate versus those gimmicky HB warriors. Want to know why? Because I actually have a chance to react. It doesn’t matter if they can take 50-80% of my health away, since I can very easily dodge Bull’s Rush, Eviscerate, ect.
Even if you manage to dodge/avoid the thief’s attack, he still has the rest of his initiative for it. He doesn’t rely on 30+ second CDs. On a vigor stacking ranger with Sigil of Energy, I STILL don’t have enough endurance to avoid the entire burst chains. Who cares if they have 12k health when throughout the entire fight you’re on the defensive and never have a chance to scratch him.
(edited by Larynx.2453)
The passive damage from pets is kind of silly. Almost all professions have some form of it, and there’s several runes and sigils that have them. Mesmer Illusions are especially annoying, since they typically do 70%+ of the total damage to me.
I have about 5-10 of each booster, and I have yet to purchase a single gem with real life money. I have about 40 of the Glory boosters even.
Sorry, but this is a ridiculous complaint. Boosts are so irrelevant and so plentiful that it’s a non-issue.
WvWvW kills is a completely irrelevant statistic. It proves, as someone else said, you enjoy massive zergs and have the capability to use an AoE.
Congratulations.
You do realize ArenaNet doesn’t actually maintain the information presented on the wiki, other than a few specific situations from the GW1wiki, right? It’s player driven. If there’s wrong info, don’t blame ArenaNet. Blame the players, and go correct the information.
Well, this isn’t very relevant, but seeing the “rank 10+ req”, “rank 20+ req” ect. in my opinion is really silly. How do you expect me to prove I’m that rank? The only way I can think of is with finishers, but expecting people to save finishers specifically for that is absolutely stupid.
You can always turn titles on – although it doesn’t mean you can play the particular character you happen to on. =p
I did forget about titles.
Yes.
And you’ve already told us the incentive to get glory: cosmetics.
I half expected this to be a good post. And I do sincerely hope you mentioned 100 Blades sarcastically and for the pure irony.
Every time I die to a mesmer, and look at the death screen, things like Mage Strike and Illusionary Duelist are over 60% of the damage done to me.
It’s kind of silly.
And freaking Moa-morph. That ability needs some serious reworks. In a game as fast paced as GW2, where the longest hard CC I can think of is 3 seconds, I do not understand it. Even in something like WoW where it’s CC galore, Polymorph, an 8 second CC, still gets removed on damage.
The animation for it is hard enough to notice if the mesmer is by himself, but when the mesmer has 4 copies and there’s particle effects blinding me and he’s cloaked… you should not expect anyone to reliably dodge that.

Even if ArenaNet add a plethora of additional maps, only have conquest will shorten the longevity of PvP by a lot. Even with the gimmicky mechanics of each map. They’re nice, but they don’t change the fact that the matches are still capture points.
I don’t even care or expect additional modes for competitive PvP. At least add them to hot join, where the majority of their demographic is. You don’t even need to balance around it, they’ve already said they will turn a blind eye to WvWvW.
Some game mode suggestions:
-Capture the Flag
-Deathmatch (8v8, limited amount of spawns for each team, first to zero loses)
-Arena (2v2, 3v3, 5v5 deathmatch)
-Rabbit
-FFA (last one standing?)
-Something akin to Alterac Valley/Isle of Conquest (first to break into the enemy base and kill the boss wins)
-Payload (Team Fortress)
-King of the Hill
-MOBA
Anything you could think of basically. Those are just a bunch off the top of my head.
And I second the SWTOR thing. It does kill me a bit, but Huttball and Voidstar were so much fun, and pretty unique in their execution. Jade Quarry in GW1 was a neat twist to Conquest as well and could realistically even be added for tournaments, too bad I hated the aesthetics.

Is there any reason for Death Shroud to start at 0% at the start of a match
in PvP
Posted by: Larynx.2453
It’s not that big of an issue. You just have to plan accordingly. Don’t send your necro to do something solo. Necros even with Death Shroud aren’t really great at 1v1s, so in my opinion this is not very important.
At least be grateful it’s not in the tournament rotation… yet.
I second the “No, no no no no.”
The entire conclusion to the personal story was very underwhelming. I was also excited to hear more about that story arc, among others I encountered, but I got nothing.
Lack of downed state most likely would not work for a Deathmatch game mode due to the mechanics of Guild Wars 2’s combat system.
Stop trying to offer balance suggestions in the mindset of a player. Offer them from a developers viewpoint. Don’t balance the game around yourself, balance the game around the game.
Consider this scenario:
You die to another player in a 1v1. You curse to yourself, quietly think, “Wow he’s so overpowered.” And continue on your way.
Consider the next scenario:
You die to another player in a 1v1. You think about what his build was, what he did to kill you, and what you could have done to counter it.
Which is the most productive?
(edited by Larynx.2453)
There’s a disgusting lack of support.
Lets ignore that half the maps are terrible to play on, the absence of custom games and challenging other teams, the lack of anything besides free tournaments, dueling, spectator mode, and other missing elements from sPvP.
But I still can not ignore why was this game released without any form of MMR? Moreover, who’s idea was it to allow premade teams fight against random pugs? Being completely crushed repeatedly by organized teams, and having absolutely no chance to win is not fun for either team. It’s pointless to even try for the losing team, and the winning team doesn’t learn anything or get satisfaction from such a meaningless win. That kind of a set up does not foster any sort of competitive scene for this game, and it’s honestly quite amazing that ArenaNet intends for it to be an eSport with this incredible lack of support for even the most basic necessities.
Guild Wars 2 has an amazing foundation for PvP. But it will go absolutely no where with the amount of care it is being given currently.
I cry every time I see Risen Quaggan.
Well, quaggan are born from eggs, too.
I guess they’re not what you think they are :P.
The plot thickens. Quaggan are actually a unique class by the name of Quagganalia.
Um, wow. Calm down. It’s a harmless, meaningless flavor dialogue.
