Some people think Trump’s not racist or sexist.
There’ s just no accounting for fools.
What class does Trump play?
So I guess the “sky is falling” crowd are eating crow?
There’s no crow to eat because the Mesmer proved its just not viable. Making an appearance doesnt mean it’s effective.
The discrepancy in team skill stopped the mesmer not the mesmer class.
You’ve got a hilarious double standard here. You’re saying that the mesmer’s poor performance can’t possibly indicate that mesmer is poor because the team was bad, then you turn around and say that the mesmer is clearly viable because it showed up in the tournament, despite having just claimed that you can’t tell anything about the mesmer due to the bad team. You can’t have it both ways, either it means something or it doesn’t.
I’ll say it again. A pro team went with mesmer for a reason and didn’t consider guardian, thief, or warrior at all.
Yeah. Want to know the reason? http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Portal_Entre
That’s literally it. They chose mesmer because we have portal. Not because the class outside of portal is even remotely good.
Our class is better off than those 3, and you literally can’t deny it. We are not trash tier. We may be at an under powered level, but we are going to have to see how our utility pans out in this new meta.
Based on what? The only team that took a mesmer got dismantled. Yes, I know, the team played badly, you’ve already mentioned it…but it’s nothing short of lunacy to use the fact that a team brought a mesmer as mesmer being viable when that team got massacred.
Until you can give an argument more intelligent than ‘but a team that got destroyed brought a mesmer so mesmer is viable’, you’ve got absolutely nothing to say.
It didn’t matter what classes Rank 55 ran against PZ….they were that much better than them. So coming to a conclusion on how well mesmer works in this meta can’t be done.
What conclusion can be made is a pro team decided to run mesmer b/c they saw something in our class. I can guarantee you that they’ve faced Rev, Rev, Necro, Ele, Engi in their scrims with the abjured (who just happened to run that comp) before the finals.
Thank You
Yeah. They saw portal. I’m not sure why you keep denying that portal is the singular reason they ran it, with moa as an honorable mention.
I’m not denying anything simply stating we don’t know because they haven’t said. You’re assuming I’m going byou facts.
Please come with facts not emotions
Everyone in this thread has been shoving facts and reason in your face, you’re just denying everything.
No they haven’t.
Well you just denied everything then.
This guy is a thief
So, yet another thief complaining, who would have guessed?
Its always thiefs. They are by far the worst players in the game and the worst posters on the forums.
Seeing as game balance and class design is based on multiple game modes, multiple game modes are necessary to be considered for PvE balancing as well.
Looking at the last few metas/balance patches Anet doesn’t care about class balance in PvP so I don’t see why we should when talking about PvE.
Ranger players never demanded the druid/healing spec. We wanted the sword animation fixed, pets fixed, ways to permanently stow pets, more dps output, better traps, stealth detection, better stealth(camo), etc…. No one ever was asking for the ranger to be given basically a nearly all healing elite.
Did you notice that the other classes all got combat boosts. Guardians got uber traps that make ours look like mouse traps. Mesmer got massive boosts in the gravity well and alacrity. Elementalists became damage absorbing machines along with damage output. Thief got damage output boost after damage output boost. Warrior got even more a damage output boost. Engineers finally got a lot of lovin’ from ANeT who actually listen for a change. Ranger got – healing. i.e. Ranger got kittened.
I’ve been here on forums for a very long time. A time that long that I saw at minimum of 3 threads before HoT asking for healing spec. Naturally, a lot of us disagreed with the idea because of the “every man for himself” design that disregards healing.
But a lot of healer fans wanted it. Just because you weren’t one of them doesn’t mean nobody asked for it. And since you don’t know that community asked for the stuff I mentioned while I do only means that I probably know more about what has been going on at forums. Are you going to deny that people ever wanted Healing Spring to become a trap that is so overbugged and horrible for actual mobile combat like it is, too?
Of course we received the short side of the stick – but it made us viable and people asked for this side of the stick. We got what we asked for.
3 people asking for a healer spec does not mean every Ranger wanted a healer spec.
Up until the announcement of Druid people who played game still believed Anet wanted rid of healers and weren’t just going to jam a badly designed one into the game to try and sell Raids.
Actually I remember quite clearly after the announcement of Druid that the ranger forums blew up with excitement over the new elite spec. People were going nuts with anticipation about it, both here on the forums and on in-game chats.
Edit: In fact, with the possible exception of Chrono and Daredevil, I don’t think any elite spec was as highly anticipated.
I was actually there, it was a bunch of non Ranger players coming over getting caught up in announcement hype before going back to thier own better designed classes when the Betas started. Most Rangers were pointing out the problems with the spec straight away.

Druid is not necessity for casual or daily content.
It’s been a spec we’ve been asking for for years and I believe people should realize this already. It makes me nauseous seeing how people keep hating stuff they themselves asked for.
We needed AoE CC, We needed team support, we needed damage modifiers, we needed sustain, we needed reliable pets and they gave them to us with 1 specialization!. (I don’t even know how did they manage this, frankly, seemed impossible to me)
So many lies in one post, please stop.
staff = pew pew pew v2.0
Can you explain this sentiment? I feel like the “pew pew” meme nonsense is based on people thinking LB is an OP damage weapon , but staff is one of the least damaging weapons in the entire game.
It is the weapon that gets me a lot of kills. It is far far superior than Longbow.
- It tracks players. You can not side step away from staff attack.
- It is instant. The moment you press the button is the moment the player gets damaged.
- Staff 3 is one of the best mobility skill in the game. Combine with GS, enemies can never escape you or chase you.
It is impossible to escape Staff pewpewpew. At least with longbow, I can see the arrow coming and dodge it when I see it near me. I can get out of range because Longbow doesn’t have a mobility skill.
And any of this would be of any value if Staff did good damage.
So I guess the “sky is falling” crowd are eating crow?
Yes, one bad Mesmer build that didn’t achieve much proves that Mesmer is fine in all game modes and isn’t suffering from severe design problems.
This is where I roll my eyes so you can really get the sarcasm.
Mesmer under ideal conditions has lower DPS then any other class just spamming skills.
To get to those ideal conditions you have to wait to you can get 3 sword phantasms up, hope the phantasms don’t die, hope you don’t need to shatter for something and then when the enemy dies set up the 3 phantasms on the next enemy.
Some of the comments here really makes me cringe. Druid is actually amazing on a zerker/marauders set up with longbow too. Some people just don’t know how to build or think for themselves other than what’s listed on metabattle. Seriously, take a look at the trait lines and the utilities and think about how they can synergize the best. Druid has multiple synergies.
Except for Druid is whats listed on Metabattle….
Yes, it is by far the worst and most poorly designed elite spec and one of the biggest dissapointments in this game. Watching all the cool and fun looking new specs of the other classes then finally getting to Ranger and seeing this pile of kitten was awful.
Poorly designed.
Trash Utilities that somehow managed to be worse then spirits and the old shouts.
Doesn’t synergise with what we already have.
Boring.
No thought put in how fun it will actually be or if it will add anything to the class outside of raids.
By far the worse weapon in the game with only 1 good skill.
Basically no beta testing, other elites got massive changes over the betas they were in that changed them from trash to actually useful and fun. Druid got 1 weekend with the only changes was kittening up how you get into astral form.
All the skills and traits added with it can be summed up with the description ‘and this also heals’.
Every other classes elite can be added to various different kind of builds, either to make them better, create them or just a variation to be more fun. Druid is just go healing and ‘if you don’t like it kitten off’, paraphrasing the devs there.
The astral form is all over the place in how its built and the skills are useless. Skill 1 needs to be some sort of high damage aoe, skill 2 needs buffing like they said they were going to do in beta but never did, skill 5 needs to let you move while using it and speed the channel up. Just some more utility and damage to the form so thats its actually useful.
Most important of all of them, THEY HAVE ALREADY NERFED BASE RANGER BECAUSE OF DRUID and they will probably do it again.
You can tell the lack of thought they put into the spec with how they announced it. Going on stream and saying ‘Druid is a heavy heling focused spec, Yep Rangers met now. Meta Ranger. I did it mum Rangers meta now META META META META META I say so’. They didn’t care about what would help Rangers in various modes, they didn’t care about giving them new fun tools to use. They needed a healer to sell the raids to WoW kids and they slapped it on Ranger because they couldn’t be bothered to put any thought into it.
Whats really funny of course is they actually failed to make it Meta so had to slap some bland thoughtless %damge buff to team mates if you spam your skills trait onto it.
Just everything about it is a massive slap in the face to Rangers who stuck with the class for 3 years.
Can confirm, I had more fun doing Maths homework when I was at school then I do trying to play against thieves and necros since the last patch.
(edited by Levetty.1279)
I don’t know what happens but I’m sure as soon as somebody tells you, it will get nerfed.
TL; DR:
1. Keep alacrity at 33%
2. Improve mesmer DPS sustain
3. Reduce recharge and cast times on wells, since those were built around Chrono having more potent alacrity than they do now.
4. Change Well of Precognition to how it was during beta, making allies attacks hit through blocks. At least then it would have use on some skill bars.
2. Yes please, this has been needed for so long.
3. Not just wells. Another option is to make the trait improved Alacrity make alacrity 66% on the Mesmer.
4. The reason that was changed is because of how useless it was. The best thing to do with precog which would have left the skill useful, required less work and shut the pvp whiners up would be to make the skill an invuln in pvp and an evade in PvE. It baffles me that they went with this aegis stuff instead.
Also what Mesmer really needs is a high dps build in PvE that can compete with other classes and doesn’t require 30 mins of jumping through a million hoops to set up our phantasms and then be locked out of our shatters for the rest of the fight.
Infact just some consideration for PvE in general while you’re butchering classes for PvP would be nice.
Can’t wait to get that 5% increase to scepter auto attack damage in 3 months.
Downloading now… Can we even talk about this here? xD
Anyways. How does Mesmer feel since the alacrity & friends nerf guys? Is it really “mez ded” or more of a really inconvenient and ill-thought change that makes the class harder and less rewarding to play… But somehow still viable?
Remember the time when Mesmers only had 1 role and not only were thieves better at it but they hard countered us? Like then but now 4 classes are better at it then us, thieves do even more damage, are immune to our conditions and can perma evade when not in stealth.
If buy optional you mean replaced by another Burnzerker in every group, sure.
Please leave Theifs. Your incessant whining already kittened this game, isn’t that enough for you?
And hey, there’s always hope for the future, right?
Well BnS looks pretty good yeah.
I’ve already bought a ship to set fire to, whats this metaphor stuff?
Is there a single change in this patch that wasn’t directed at weakening the Mesmer?
Seriously, I’m even beginning to wonder if the chinese new year festival kittens us over somehow.
I didn’t get far enough to dive into the mechanics or alacrity. Did these new nerfs just bone me completely? Do I jump ship? New char? I was really looking forward to chrono and had just gotten bored of shatter but it looks like the smoke cleared from the battlefield and that’s all that’s left.
Do you play PvP? If so, yeah, jump ship.
Do you raid PvE? If so, discuss it with your raid group.
Do you play WvW? Probably should jump ship, but not necessarily.
If you are not in a raid group just jump ship.
Just jump ship.
This is the first change I’ve been actually really disappointed with, in the long line of mesmer changes since the game first came out. It just feels so badly thought out and as if the development team has never played with one in any sort of group content.
And there for a few months we had representation and consideration from the devs.
If you are reading this, Robert Gee, thank you so much for your efforts to make our profession desirable, even if it turned into this. From the June 23 patch to the first few months of HoT, your dedication to making Mesmer stand out was and still is very much appreciated.
You know he still works at Anet and would have been involved in this patch right?
Barring some strange scenario where 2 Anet employees beat him up in the corner while a third quickly programmed all the nerfs, he was probably the one who came up with them.
I think they should add some fury for the Ranger to Sic Em, make the reveal aoe round the Ranger/pet/both and lower the CD to 30 secs then our shouts will be in a very good spot.
Anybody want to give me a quick run down of the roles, gimmicks and mechanics are of the different classes in Blade and Soul?
Also what the PvE and PvP content is like and how the f2p model is?
In theory its a good idea, in practice it will be useless.
First as I mentioned in another thread people see the tiny buffs we did get and refuse to believe that these buffs do nothing.
Second, even though the reddit board is mostly PvE focused, if you make any complaints about Mesmer you get bombarded with down votes and responses telling you that Mesmer is OP in pvp and you need to l2p. Even if you make sure to emphesise that you are only talking about pve and don’t care about pvp. Even if you say you don’t care about being effective and just want a fun build the response will be the same.
Third, related to the second. Theres this patheticness with the vocal pvp minority that if they think a class is op in pvp (which they always think Mesmer is) they think it deserves to be underpowered in pve.
Needless to say they don’t do anything to actually improve skills/traits.
They aren’t designed to try and trick us into thinking something has changed because anybody who plays the class can instantly see these are useless.
Its to convince other classes we got buffs so they will argue with us when we point out the state of the class, so that we can’t get our voices heard.
Was sat in HoTM testing the changes to see if they actually worked and the usual conversation was going on about the patch notes and while surprisingly nobody argued against Bunker Mesmer now being useless, people swore blind that the scepter ‘buff’ and the furious interuption ‘buff’ were going to make interupt Mesmer and Condi Mesmer very strong.
Obviously they refused to tell me how it was going to make it strong or how it was going to compete with Theifs and Necros, they just saw these changes and thought ‘oh look buffs Mesmer will be OP’.
Oh I was wondering why they nerfed that trait. Turns out one Mesmer actually used it.
Glad they put a stop to that.
Can all of the people who repeated the mantra:
“We don’t even know all of the changes yet”Please stand up, and leave the room.
Okay, are they gone now?
So, who wants to play B&S until BDO comes out?
Please, they are all in game on their theives spamming auto attacks. They were never Mesmers.
It counts towards everything except for the kitten auto attack of the weapon which is entirely dependent on the projectile speed which is slow as kitten.
Ranger staff
No damage or useful effects on skill 1, healing is laughbale.
Skill 2 is the same as skill 1 but with slightly better healing.
Skill 3 is alright but a simple movement skill can’t carry a weapon.
Skill 4 would be the worst skill in the game even if you could hit things with it.
Skill 5 is inferior to reflects, is way to small and is too situational.
All this patch tells me is that in PvP Anet is fine with every class being OP except for Mesmer and they couldn’t give two kittens about Mesmers trying to play PvE and leave PvP alone.
mesmer op, l2p
learn to read
I’d argue the Mesmer scepter change was more worse then useless since in their minds they have probably ‘fixed’ scepter and will need 3 more years of complaining to get through to them that they didn’t.
Honorable mention to Ranger Axe trait as well, showing they completly missed the point.
Ranger shortbow is not the most underpowered weapon in the game.
Yeah that would be Ranger staff.
All this patch tells me is that in PvP Anet is fine with every class being OP except for Mesmer and they couldn’t give two kittens about Mesmers trying to play PvE and leave PvP alone.
Buh buh buh we don’t know all the changes!
Mesmer sucesfully removed from PvE and PvP
The removal of defensive amulets, the crazy buffs to Necro, the uneeded buffs to theif and precog stopping point capture was enough to drive most bunkers out of the game including Mesmer.
Completly gutting Chrono was just Anet being petty and revealing how little they think of their players.
The sad thing is, because of how Scepter Auto works, the trait won’t even be a 5% buff to its attack speed.
Your joke notes are better then what we will actually be getting.
They could give it distortion in PvP to stop caps and give it blur in PvE to stop skipping the green circles.
Their entire insulting argument about “the people who play our game are too kittened to know what to do if we split skills between modes” wouldn’t apply because the people who would get confused by skill splits also wouldn’t know the difference between evade and invuln anyway.
They should nerf continuum split so that it does not recharge elite cooldowns. They should reduce the CD on continuum split to make back some of the loss. This way I think continuum split would have more depth to it so that it would not be used only for the double elite
Reminds me early on in the games life when Rangers were complaining about Longbow being a bad weapon so Anet nerfed shortbow range and damage and said everybody should use Longbow now.
Ranger shortbow is still crap to this day btw.
Troll in the dungeon! The issue was chronobunk not the damage.. Completely disregarded the post and you decided to troll a constructive thread, contribute or gtfo. You probably dont even play mesmer anyway so why should you care.
Says the thief who wants to nerf all our other trait lines along with Chrono.
Do you know what I always found OP about Mesmer? Their auto attacks do damage! WTF is that about? Shatters do damage why do they need their auto attacks to do damage as well? If Mesmer players don’t like it there are 8 other classes whose auto attacks do damage just play as one of them why do you want Mesmer to be OP?
I’ve said it before but the fact that the info they released to get people hyped for the next patch is a complete gutting of the Chrono, with only a buff so small it might as well not exist to a bad trait for a bad weapon, it tell you everything you need to know about their attitude to the class.
Their won’t be any major buffs to Mesmer in the final patch.
Isn’t it enough that theives constantly get Anet to listen to their whining and destroy any and all unique or fun builds/metas in this game across all modes just so they can run around hot join spamming 2, do they really have to infest our forums with their kitten as well?
You mean the tiny increase to the attack speed trait that will bearly effect the auto attack of the weapon because of how badly its designed isn’t enough for you?
I’ll wait for official and final patch notes before deciding, they said some sceptre love, we’ll see how much is it
Considering part of the reson for the preview was to get people hyped for the next patch and the way they decided to get people hyped was to stick up a giant middle finger to Mesmers, I’m not sure why you would be expecting more.
Except that Alacrity was the big sell for HoT Mesmers…
Looks like HoT hype is over. Plus it was bound to happen: whole raid\group depending on one class mechanic is not a good thing at all.
They’d better compensate it somewhere else though.
You mean the tiny increase to the attack speed trait that will bearly effect the auto attack of the weapon because of how badly its designed isn’t enough for you?
Yes, it does. It’s not enough to make mantras competitive, but it does affect them.
May I know where you got that info?
In game.
There is no bunker meta anymore, now that the full def trinkets get removed. Just keep that in mind.
So they nerfed Bunker Chrono in every single way possible and Shatter has gone back to being theif food.
I don’t see the point on putting regeneration on Search and Rescue since who is going to use the shouts without the trait?
I expected nothing and I was still dissapointed.
