Mesmer – Are very biased towards their profession, to the point they will defend against any nerf. The love they have for their class is admirable however, and they show an endearing passion in all aspects Mesmer. In fact, they are the only class to have their own subforum guild in game. What? Mesmers will declare almost anything on the class as OP and accept any change they recieve as the strongest thing ever and hate people who disagree.

Personal Story Restoration update

I’m having trouble wrapping my head around this. Under the original system I got up to Ships of the Line and haven’t touched the personal story under the current system. Am I fine to stay there and then when this rolls out will I just be able to carry on the story as if nothing had happened or am I going to get bumped to a different mission?

Similarly my other character got to Temple of the Forgotten God under the old system, are they ok to just stay there?

OP didn’t even mention why it shouldn’t become a trap beside “I don’t like it”. I mean really? I agree that the signet thing is very forced. You want to rename it, icon would need to change, in the end you completely change the identity of the skill.

That a heal on trap works shows the new guardian skill. Imo just give the complete heal on casting and activate the water field and condi pulsing when an enemy enters. Alternatively it could not trigger on enemies but on allies with less than 50% hp. This would mean it doesnt change at all as long as you cast it below 50% or if you drop below 50% after casting it. Actually would allow to “precast” the whole thing.

How about the fact that making it a trap completly messes with how the skill works and will basically be a nerf.

It would bot change it “completely.” The change is minimal, really. How would it be a nerf?

Because it changes it from n on demand water field with condi clear to something your enemy is in control of.

WiIlderness survival would make the most sense, if it can’t be due to TU then I’d prefere a signet. We should have got a heal signet instead of water spirit in the first place.

Give us a signet elite while they are at it as well.

Stealth Revealed Bug - affecting you?

Its a good first step, stealth in this game has more in common with exploits in other games instead of mechanics and has no counter play. Sorry thieves, not liking stealth is as much a l2p issue as going into stealth and running off when you health drops to 30% makes you good at the game.

If this makes Mesmer even worse in PvP then so be it, its already aggressively unfun whenever the enemy team has a thief (99%) of the time.

This is most likely a bug though and due to thief tears they will completly revert it instead of looking at whats happening and seeing how it can improve the game.

It sounds like it could be pretty good. If not druid then I hope we get a spec like that at some point.

The problem is that in the Chrono reveal they specifically mentioned the Druid being designed with the Staff in mind so I doubt the mechanic will be about letting us replace our weapon skills like this. Wouldn’t mind if I am wrong though.

Isn’t Sword the most directly damaging weapon? If it needs a buff, doesn’t that mean every other weapon needs one as well?

I think Staff auto attack is pretty much the only auto attack that people don’t have a problem with.

Sword is our highest damaging but hits for a lot less compared to other classes damage focus weapons.

I do like the sound of that one… kind of. I actually hate how broken stealth is in this game and in particular how theives can cause massive bursts instantly out of stealth but if theives can do it then I don’t see why we can’t have some benefits from attacking from stealth.

I’d prefere it as a Signet. As you said the passive you gave it would cause problems with some skills and would mostly just cause us to have reveal most of the time. Not sure what passive I would give it that would stick with the genral theme of the skill though.

I guess even after two years Anet hasn’t learned kitten, or maybe they’re too busy buffing the hell out of mesmer and guard while simultaneously kittening rangers and still not giving necros the things they’ve needed either.

The Ranger changes are much better then the Mesmer changes. The placement of our two condi traits are the only major problem. The Axe/GS traits and a couple of useless ones are more minor.

DH is rediculously over the top though.

Sword is simple to fix, buff damage, revert blurred Frenzy nerfs and change skill 3 into a leap forward like other gap closers. Maybe leave a clone behind on skill 3 like the skill we were orignally going to get when they first announced the class.

A Defiance Bar isn’t something that they can add by a grand master. It’s a real change to a class, it’s a entire mechanic. And if they change the DS with “new skils” (but anet already say that they’re all similar to the previous skils to mantain some combos and trait effects, then nothing is really changed) they can’t also make us waste our life force to obtaina defiance bar, that will consume all our LF before we can go into the new DS.

Chill isn’t a defensive skill. Slow is a defensive condition, because slow the enemy’s attacks. Chill reduce the activation rate of the enemy skills. Good, but not a thank thing. Expecially in pve. The enemy will still be able to hit you at the same speed that he can before.

You can make a new build, but that resume an old one that isn’t been played for ages because it’s unefficent against any kind of enemy.

Chill can be good only if you start to spam it every second with almost every skills, then you can inflict chill more than the enemy can clean it. But if you focus all th inflict chill you take all your time to take the enemy down while he kill you with it’s non in cooldown skills.

That build can be good in combo with a mesmer. Chill and Slow mixed can be good, but all alone a reaper can’t do alla that things that ANet will try to show us

In the blog post they put up explaining specializations better didn’t they say some class was going to get a GM that gave them a defiance bar? reaper seems like the most likely choice.

Also I am unsure how one new shatter is an entirely new mechanic when 5 new DS skills are just ‘a little rework on it’s DS, that don’t change all it’s DS broken mechanic problems’.

Then again I am unsure how giving Necro’s what seems like a melee tanky build with pbaoe shout skills and lots of control isn’t a new build either.

Kind of afraid of what Druids will get. Who knows? After all of this dreading, it might turn out to be really cool. If not, we can always stay a Ranger.

Also, if Druids get Mantras, there better be some cool lines that vary depending on the mantra AND pet. “Power. Torment. Bacon!” (with a pig)

I’d rather it be “Pork, Sausage, Bacon!”
The active of this skill is make your pig explode and does huge AOE damage within 1200 range.

I might be ok with this.

Reaper and Dragon Hunter get access to 5 new weapon skills in addition to multiple new profession skills. Traits and utilities are nice things, but it’s your weapon skills and profession skills that provide the necessarily feedback in combat. Mesmer getting just 2 new weapon skills and one new shatter is disappointing comparatively, especially as to use shield you have to basically rely on sword or the horrid awkwardness of sceptre for your main-hand.

I’m really looking forward to Dragon Hunter personally.

You cannot even judge any effects if you don’t know what they are. Just because mesmer mantras don’t see much play doesn’t mean druids are automatically bad. Your comment is silly.

For the effect sot be worth dealing with the Mantra mechanic they would have to be so powerful that other classes complaints will pretty quickly get it nerfed.

If Druids get Mantras I am going to be very sad. Very clunky mechanic with effects not really worth the charge time compared to other classes instant use skills.

I hope we rangers steal some concentration or mediation from Guardians, since Guardian stole our LB and traps anyway.

I’m hoping for meditations too.

I think its worth repeating that the new Sheild Phantasm is actually pretty bad. Its going to run into the same problems iMage and iDisenchanterr run into. Rolls designed for high phantasm upkeep when now more then ever they are trying to encourage us to shatter, close range bouncing mechanic and slowness of projectile only being effective in very small gorups or 1v1s, pointless in Zergs, low damage while taking up space from other phantasms.

Sheild would be much better off if it dumped the Phantasm and gave us a couple of seconds block like the Warrior Sheild/Ranger GS/old mimic. Or possibly keep the phantasm but just have it spawn on the first hit while we keep blocking.

The two heavy classes coming to Mesmer forum to complain about something being too strong, whats next a theif popping in to say Mesmer’s have too much stealth?

There is a lack of +damage% that is going to hurt Mesmer in PvE especially with the changes to other classes seeming to let them stack more then ever. Not necesaraly something that needs added to Chrono but Improved Alacrity could be a good source.

I think alls well that ends well needs to stick with condi remove so that we can actually fit these wells on our bar (instead of null or mantra) but the trait needs a little something extra as well as more condi remove (maybe CD reduction) but also possibly another trait that helps give wells some extra effects. I like Fays idea of All wells pulse their last pulse one extra time or maybe throw out some extra boons.

And while on the topic I think the signet trait could be buffed up to 2 condis removed as well.

Obviously great synergy with Danger Time and Lost Time/our other sources of slow, I really like it. Part of my problem with the base spec changes is the ‘synergy’ in those trait lines seems to be mostly load a bunch of effects up on a shatter or interupt. Not that I wnt you to get rid of that but it needs more combos like Danger Time + Lost Time or the Mantra trait + condi cleanse on heal.

Chronophantasma, Flow of Time and even more so Seize The Moment actually do help with the idea that you want us to shatter in every build even when we need more sustained dps then burst aka phantasms. Some more effects like that could help in the base lines as well particularly dom and duelling. You already have the Phantasm recharge trait on shatter but maybe also
-+damage% for x seconds for each illusion you shatter
- Increasing the might on shattered strength
-Gain might or fury everytime you summon a Phantasm (to encourage cycling through them more) which then could have synergy with Chronophantasma

Interms of the typical power shatter, ie have to get the highest burst possible to down this guy, I think Illusions will still be the way to go. Chronomancer can provide some interesting alternatives to a power shatter build but illusion will just allow that initial burst to hit harder.

More weapon skills, changes to the class mechanic, hard hitting utilities with the chance at a condi build, perma cripple on auto attack, lots of AoE, lots of control, 1200 range maul that peirces and can be traited for stab, knockback every 7 secs, high vuln uptimes, lots of damage modifiers.

First Impressions, some pretty good traits there.

All 3 GMs look good, though I agree with Chronophantasma spawning the Phantasms too close.

Improved Alacrity seems a bit lacking maybe something like a damage bonus when you have it to help with PvE.

Kinda dissapointed with the well trait, or maybe to be more exact the lack of them because giving it condi clense will be a good way to deal with bar compression so we can actually bring them but, like others have said, is should be 2 removed at the end or a condi cleansed per pulse and maybe some CD reduction.

1s Alacrity per shatter seems way too low, per illusion would be good.

The shoulders look pretty good, unfortunatly they also look the kind that end up looking rediculously large on humans, especially females.

I don’t know how they’ll do it but it will need buffs to compete with the other classes that can stack it like crazy like guardian.

Also not sure how they’ll balance the stacks because in the dragonhunter video it was ticking for 4.5k at 6 stacks which is completely ridiculous. With burning stacks like that why even bother stacking 25 stacks of bleeding…

Amplified Wrath+Kindled Zeal+carrion amulet no other class should have similar burn damage since guardian is limited in damaging conditions.

i know they are limited but there’s no reason that 6 stacks of burning should be hitting twice as much as 25 stacks of bleeding when 25 stacks of bleeding is inifnitely more difficult to get and maintain.

And even if they are more limited it is still crazy that only 4 stacks of burning STILL does more dmg than 25 stacks of bleeding AND in the video he also got like 15 stacks of bleeding.

In its current state this is completely broken.

Everything about the DH in its current state is completly broken.

They seem kind of meh to be honest.

Well of Calamity and Gravity Well will help in PvE tagging and Zerg vs Zerg (Gravity Well looks particularly fun there) and G Well looks pretty useful in PvP.

If Mesmer can pull there wait in terms of DPS, which it is looking like they won’t, people will want Well of recall and Well of Action in Dungeons but you will have to slot it around might blasting on fire fields.

Well of Eternity just seems bad. Maybe if it was a Water field and we had some friends around to blast it for us.

Well of Precognition is incredably meh. You generally need Evasion there and then not in 3 seconds time.

Unfortuantly all of them (except the elite) are Ethereal fields which are very bad unless you are a Mesmer taking the Staff trait, presumeing all sources of Chaos armour give protect.

Combine that with them competing against utilities like Blink, Decoy, Condi cleanses they will need some very good buffs throught traits to compete.

TLDR they all look kinda meh outside of Gravity Well which they are already considering nerfing.
