Switching to the newest FotM isn’t something to be proud of. Just shows that you have little creativity.

Plus, it’s far more impressive for someone to kill people as a non-FotM build than it is with an FotM build. Also shows that the person is actually good at their class.

My goal isn’t to be the most creative player I can be, it’s to be the most effective player I can be. Sometimes creative new builds outperform old builds and in that case they quickly become the meta. Sometimes people try new things and it underperforms and doesn’t make it into the meta at that time. If I discover a new build that I believe will outperform my old build I switch immediately. If a new build underperforms my old build it gets dropped.

My goal isn’t to impress my opponent but to beat them. I don’t care if they think I’m good or bad or anywhere in between that’s not my problem and it’s not something I can control.

I make a serious effort to never complain about enemy builds, tactics whatever. If someone beats me with something I just try to find a way to beat them. If I can’t figure it out that’s my failing not theirs.

Very nicely said. On a side added note. Every single build have their strengths and weaknesses and other build/profession that completely counter them.

What is with everyone on Badgegate running bunkers when they roam? I realize that you dudes are terrible and face tank everything, but you’re never going to get better if you play such forgiving easy mode builds. Strap on some damage and let’s have a fight that doesn’t last 10 minutes.

Everything in excess is horrible for solo raoming. That include both too much bunker and too much zerker. Against a full tanky player, the 1v1 duels are boring due to the time it takes to finish (sometimes it never ends unless the 1v1 becomes 1v2 or higher scale). Against a full berserker is also boring because there is no challenge on defeating these too squishy players.

With a precursor as a reward I’ll be happy for the entire lifespan of this game as long as it is not one precursor that cost less than 100 gold…

Pve is extremely easy so of course you can. I did 100% map completion back when i was still spvping and roaming with d/d weapon set.

Would using s/d in wvw/spvp without fresh air completely destroy your damage? Given that it’s a great burst tool and is staple in a lot of current meta s/d builds, I’m trying to create an s/d build without fresh air but all signs lead to “hits like a wet paper tower, gets torn through like tissue paper.” Just asking for some general opinions and anecdotes.

I was using my burst build months before fresh air was even introduced and it worked perfectly fine with 30 in air. Fresh air trait just makes the dps a bit more sustainable. You’ll do fine if you choose not to invest 30 points in air or choose another master/grandmaster air trait.

What is up with magguma having mostly mesmers roamers in sor bg atm? so far i have seen 8 mes, 1 ele, 1 ranger and 1 warrior.

They hit hard but are squishier than anything I’ve faced in a long time, same with most Mag hammer trains, a lot of damage output but once you get in the back lines everything is easy. I will admit it is more difficult to get into their backlines than a lot of servers but we’ve been fighting BG Hammer trains for so long that Maguuma’s just aren’t as scary. So, yea I will compare Mag’s Hammer trains to old BG’s (recently BG’s have been a huge disappointment, I think it is due to a lot of new WvW’ers playing now, which isn’t a bad thing).

mmmm I’ll probably get beaten by my own burst medicine if magguma roamers hit this hard. I’m still in queue… hating my gw2 night life right now

So far so Glassy™… Seems like most of the roamers are concerned w/ DPS over sustain and surviving. I got 100 to 0’d a few times by a mix of classes, but in a group fight situation we’ve been able to res each other up most of the time. I’m looking forward to roaming over the weekend to see what they have to offer. So far we haven’t had any problems winning outnumbered battles against Mag. I think the Mag roamers are like us and like to roam on other BLs instead of their own so you can find them running around in our borderlands.

You’re gonna be blowing these kids up dude. Good luck trying to find a decent duel.

You may not get one- shot but you won’t kill good players with a bunker low damage build specially in spvp. Bunker builds aren’t the only ones that determine if you survive in teamfight. Player skills play a major importance when you play with a build with less armor and hp but much more dps/burst… even a glass cannon ele can survive in group if played right. Finally, don’t assume that by bursting it means to be glass cannon or to be “one-shoted” because that is not always the case.

Here’s my bumblebee asura ele. I <3 it so much that I stopped playing all the other professions.

The skill animations of the hammer from the warrior are very noticeable. You shouldn’t be getting hit with a single stun from this weapon unless you ran out of endurance and utility. The mace stun skill is a different story but I can understand how difficult it can be to react while you are at a melee range with d/d.

what “immune” button? do you mean endure pain?. That’s very easy noticeable if you always check on enemy buff. (which you should do one every duel against any profession/player) The problem with d/d weapon set is you have to be at melee range to do significant damage. In this type of close range, a good warrior will always win. With s/d burst build whether you are glass cannon or not, you can easily kite the warrior and burst him down while he is unable to hit you or if he does hit you it is just once or twice.

Edit: Dueling against a good skillful player on whatever profession is not easy for ele. It takes a lot of effort on reading your opponent movements, countering them and outputing enough dps and defensive skills for you to win.

It’s impossible to kill a “good” warrior in wvw as an elemantalist.
You can throw yourself a party if you can get 20 percent of his health down.

In spvp you can use alot of your immobelize, knockdown and knockback and your stun. Its hard but possible.

It is impossible as a d/d bunker spec from low-average damage. Ele needs to kite and burst them down to stand a chance. Toe to toe warrior wins without an effort.

Then invest only 5 in arcana. That’s what I awill keep doing in this upcoming patch. That minor trait is too great to give up on my burst Ele.

A trait that protects you from conditions in a toughness traitline still seems a little backwards to me. If you want a condition buffer you should spec into vitality but anet has something against water.

Meh, too much collateral damage going on in wvw for it to be worth it anywhere else but solo roaming.

Idk how it is on other tiers but on tier 1 zerg vs zerg still deals small dmg because everyone is mostly built into bunker spec where most of the dmg comes from conditions. The only scenario this trait won’t be proven useful is if you are at the front line ALL the time. Combined with ether renewal this trait will be very powerful in the hands of good players until it gets nerfed.

It is a perfect trait as already stated. No need to modify it anymore. Besides Jon posted an updated comment about diamond skin coming at 85% instead of 90%. It is not decided yet.

Switch to fire, cast fire ring and arcane wave utility. You will still get your reward even in a large zerg. This come from a burst non-glass build s/d ele from Blackgate. One of the tier 1 servers that what know best is zerg in massive amounts each tower and keeps.

There is no “best" gear for Ele. It depends on your playstyle, build and role you want to run. The best guideline is your own personal experience you acquiere through the game. If you want shortcuts at least provide more detail on what do you want to do in a Zerg. Dps? Support? Tank? Hybrid?That way other players can help you further.

I have tested this consumable in pve and in wvw and it doesn’t show the 200 power increase when my health goes below 50%.

I have each of the profession at lvl 80 and I keep coming back to my ele. It is the most fun class where I dominate all the others in wvw.

It’s awesome that they are finally listening to the community before implementing such detrimental changes.

But I would like to point out the decision of moving Arcane Resurrection to Master tier. As if anybody ever uses that trait. Redesigning the trait in a way that it is a worthy Master tier trait would help a lot. Like if it triggers the aura if you are reviving an ally and not after the revive has succeeded would be a good start. But even if this were the case, it’s still one of those many traits that will never be seen being used.

I’m sure they will improve or even redesign the whole trait now that it is going to a higher tier. Soothing wave is an example of this possibility. I’m going to protest that soothing wave should be a grandmaster trait in fire and not a master trait in water…. I’m getting intimated by this trait because I just faced the most challenging bunker/healing ele (Serane from SoS server) tonight and even though it went both sides of wins and loses, I was sweating bullets on every duel lol. I can just imagine how much harder he will be with this trait o.O.

Well made thread op. I completely agree on everything you stated. You should definitely send a thank you email to them. It is indeed an admirable approach they are taking toward this future patch.

Ouch bunker healing build eles will become a pain to beat with this incoming Soothing Wave redesign. I guess I have to burst more now with this patch.

The only reason why I take this trait is for the swiftness and its perfect sinc with fresh air for getaways. It’s time to adapt again and come up with better builds for my ele when this patch is released.

Answer….. no. For pve the best noticeable impact any profession can bring is high dps/burst. Now for wvw zerg setting it can be a different story.

With rock barrier your armor will be over 2700 so make sure to have it up all the time during outnumbered or in zerg encounters. You can chance your rings to knight if you want more armor. Don’t listen to players saying in order burst you will be glassy. They are completely wrong. You will survive a lot if you are a good player with this build and be able to burst down instantly all those glassy players and these bunker d/d eles.

You just need a non glassy burst style to beat them easily. Don’t expect to beat any good condition necro with a bunker, low to moderate dmg d/d build. Make a necro and play with it for a bit in spvp to learn its playstyle. Also your toughness have no effect against conditions dmg.

elementalist is not fail in wvw….. you should rarely be losing 1v1’s to power builds … perplex engies, dhumfire necros, and condi mesmers however can give you quite a bit of trouble

The only profession that should give you trouble in WvW solo roaming is a good Mesmer player. It doesn’t matter if it is condition based or burst type, if the opponent is skillful he/she will always defeat the Ele easily. It is the only weakness all Ele experience.

As a d/d Ele, the only Ele I could not defeat was a full bunker s/f. We fought a few matches. It was funny because everyone that came between us died. He went undefeated. I died only to him. They were memorable fights. He was close to dying many times, but focus has enough defense to allow heals to win by attrition. Most of his hits did not make contact, but eventually my dodges and heals ran out every time.

On what server was this on? I still haven’t met a single good s/f Ele that my burst s/d Ele can’t defeat. I really would like to encounter them

I’d like to agree, but I’m a little skeptical that the changes “aren’t final.” They said that about the last update preview and nothing changed that I’m aware of, even though there were items getting incredibly negative feedback.

Anet has been replying to feedback and suggesting some compromises. Those include the possibility of renewing stamina and cleansing wave staying at adept tier. So they are listening and considerating our opinions.

The elemental attunenment trait will be the only one affecting all those eles that doesn’t like to waste points in the arcana tree. I guess i will have to find other ways to gain speeds even if that means sacrificing a utility, rune or another trait because there is no way I will ever again waste 20 point in the arcane tree for WvW.

The Ele profession for me is excellent for all aspects of pve, solo/small group roaming, and in Zerg WvW. The only field where it doesn’t excel is spvp. I have lvl 80 from all the other professions and I can easily tell ya the Ele is the hardest to play well specially in pvp scenarios.. This profession isn’t newcomer friendly,… It takes a lot of time to master so give it a bit more time and you might actually enjoy.

I can get cleansing water going 20 into water, I get 100 (240 in earth) more toughness investing 20 into earth, the grandmaster trait is now a master trait so I can get around 300 more condition damage without sacraficing much condi removal. Sounds like a win to me.

This is also a win to me. I only invest 5 points in arcana and do perfectly fine as a solo and small group roamer in wvw. The movement of traits from this branch doesn’t affect me at all but I can understand the frustration of those players that invest more than that because they feel it is a must for the ele.

I love these changes. Great opportunity for me to make up new builds for solo and small group roaming in wvw that involves the fire trait line.

The proposed Dec 10 patch notes. They are moving RS to the master tier, and making it compete with elemental attunement.

This is a HUGE nerf. Not only are you now forced 20 points arcana for ANY survival, but you have to decide between either having vigor, or having 3-4 secs of protection for burst.

And in that exchange we gained no meaningful source of survival besides Tempest Defense, which was already without use since we use cantrips/arcane shield for CC effects.

Yea I’m reading that note atm. I run only 5 in arcana and 15 in water for solo and small group roaming in wvw and do extremely well but that water trait moved to the master trait line will make me debate a lot. Then again that fire trait that uses cleansing fire automatically when you have 3 conditions on you sounds very, very appealing to me. I’m still reading but so far I am loving the changes. Great opportunity for new builds and playstyle.

If that ever gets implemented, I will have a very long debate on which of my 3 air traits to discard.

Any wvw build works for pve too so no need to change it every time.

There will always be a lot of people whine about its own class. Nerf this nerf that, buff this buff that, change this change that. Every now and then there will be some positive person like you and some others. (I am the former but I already stop doing it since it’s pointless.)

My advice is to run what you like. Check this forum only for guide update. There are some pretty good guides around here.

You will be wasting your time arguing with some people around here. Ele is great class, even though she is my alt, I run her a lot. I am considering to make her main since the gold that I invested on her armor is so awesome!

We need an elite that changes the tide of battle. Not just one that’s good for running away, since we need to run away a lot because the class is so underpowered. that’s our elite skill, running away. Yay! No, we need an elite that nukes the hell out of the enemy and makes them regret ever attacking us. Something powerful that completely shifts the battle in our favor, like Moa Morph, or Supply Drop. THOSE are elite skills.

From my experience FGS is an elite that changes the tide of battles I’m in whether that is 1v1, 1v2, 2v2 etc. It is not only good for running away but it is also great in combat. I won’t argue that Moa (personally consider this one a very cheap low lvl skill that gets me so mad whenever a mesmer cast this on me on 1v1 lol) and supply drop are very good elites but I consider fgs to be better. The only thing that would make FGS way better is if it can be cast while moving.

FGS may turn the tide in a battle against 2 people, but in a battle of 5+, its only use is to escape when things go south. Tornado is decent on choke points when you can knock people off but you have to basically use it, drop it and get the hell out or else you will be focused down. Elemental is ok for air elemental daze but its random, and still not that great for group play. Yeah, I’d take a 4th utility instead of what we have with the option to swap it out for FGS if the elite slot is not on cooldown.

Do you mean in 1v5 battle? if it is 5v5 encounter it absolutely turns the tide of the battle in favor of my team. It happened so many times when I group roam. This elite is the best.
