As a thief i respect a lot Eles.

Is a hard profession to play but it is also super fun to play.

What i can tell you is that most of the eles i kill easy is because they run glass builds.

They hit hard but most of the times when they fail their main skills (like the fire one that hits like a god) they get very vulnerable.

There are some kind of balanced eles that i just can’t get close to kill.

1 week ago i was dueling a guy in the mill that i could not win a single time, he was more tanky, suddenly a lot of might and hits me very hard.

Sorry for my bad english what i want to say is . . . if a thief hits you by 9k you are going to much glassy.

If a thief hits my burst non glass cannon Ele that has 3010 armor while buffed for over 9k dmg, it only means he will be very vulnerable to my burst as well and it will be an easy win for me.

If they have S/d as one of their weapon-sets, do your best to run. A half-decent s/d thief can crap all over an amazing ele all day long w/o trying. Luckily, the infinite pseudo-stunbreak on infiltrator’s return (sword 2) is being fixed, which should help.

Also, thieves that aren’t bad (not full glass) are REALLY hard b/c they have way more mobility, can easily evade your telegraphed burst, and take quite a bit to get taken down.

Edit: clarified that s/d craps on ANY ele, not just d/d.

This is so wrong. It might be your own personal experience and the experience of few other eles that don’t have the type of burst or/and type of playstyle to defeat these type of thieves easily. What is a lot more challenging is a skillful thief player running a condition build with perplexity runes. I find dealing high consistent burst damage to be the main counter towards these thieves. I also need to emphasize that having only the burst doesn’t make it possible to defeat any good thief player or any good player in general from the other professions… you need to be skillful too. Even d/d eles can land all their “telegraphed bursts” towards any good thief player, the only requirement is to know when it is the best moment to land them successfully.

You did ok. You will do better and better as you gain more experience within this setting specially as a solo roamer in wvw. Just know that no matter what build you run on any of the profession there will always be other profession builds or skillful players that can easily counter your build/playstyle.

I agree with the suggestion to not go on cd if the utility fails. I use this skill in some instances within fractal and it is very useful until it goes on cd when it is unsuccessful.

Completely doubt diamond skin will work against agony. It might at first when the patch is released….. Until that glitch gets fixed.

@frownyclown they added a 8 sec icd to the 6 piece the rest of the rune is unchanged. It does hurt your builds ability to apply the confusion rapidly with shocking aura, earthquake and updraft

@LightningBlaze what server are you on? I remember seeing your char pic here on forums and one day there was a little asura ele that got me with the FGS when I was on my thief he looked like your character. Don’t think I ever ran into you on my ele though.

I’m in Blackgate server. I’m no longer using the gear from that picture….. well sometimes I do but it is only in duel scenarios now instead of roaming. This is the gear I’m using now for roaming

S/d could work in some situations I believe earth and fire auto both apply conditions. Would work great if you could maintain distance but sadly that’s not the case. I like d/d because it applies just as much pressure it would in a power build. I heard perplexity might get a 30s icd which would ruin 1vX situations where you could interrupt more than 1 at once. Search bad elementalist on youtube. Lightningblaze I’m not that great when I lose 2/3 duels to you lol. I’m out of town this week so didn’t get another chance to fight you. I consider you great because even if it is 2/3 ratio, you still defeat me while others never do with your same build. Also, I am forced to pay close attention to your active attunement and get myself at range to get away from your constant pressure; Once again compared to others I don’t need to do neither of those things. I have modified My burst ele quite a bit with a new set of gears and 2 different new burst builds that I will be running after Dec 10th patch. The one I’m using right now has about the same type of burst as my previous one but with an increased of 200 more armor for a total of 3007 armor with rock barrier and out of earth attunement. I’m running rune of the traveler instead of divinity now because of that reason. I got tired of replacing one of my utilities for signet of air even if it was temporarily. Hopefully, when the new bl takes place, all players across all the servers can meet there. It would be great dueling you again!

WvW is both a pvp and a pve setting. There are so much hate towards those that play the game differently compared to the majority. Everyone enjoy one aspect of wvw more than the others whether that is zerging, gvg, dueling, solo or small group roaming. Personally I like all scenarios but I prefer solo roaming more than the others.

Up to this day I still haven’t encounter a single s/f, s/d, d/f condition built ele that is above average (player skill wise) to go against on 1v1. I have faced a good amount of d/d but I’m afraid the only one I would consider to be good with this build so far is Frowny clown.

The best way to answer your question is to read the patch notes since August.

I’m not for the new waterfield, but for the nerf revert to our heals and mobility, that kinda destroyed our viability in PvP, because now the classes with more base HP and armor than we have are better in other aspects, too…. That is not balance, that is chaos.

This is my profession forum since I got tired of playing all the other professions for WvW. The easy god mode Ele experienced before shouldn’t come back. Now there is a bit of challenge to play the class right instead of having a single easy mode describing the whole profession playstyle.

I never said “Give us a god mode back” (even though that was the state of Ele maybe in Beta, not anytime after that), I just said “make our class work properly and don’t apply double standards for our class” and that seems like a big difference to me, don’t you think? Why we should have some of our abilities “nerfed” in PvP, especially heals, when we are the squishiest class in game and our mobility was severely crippled by multiple nerfs? And that is quite insulting when this is applied to a grandmaster trait, really…

Did I say you mentioned the “give us a god mode back”? No, I meant with more healing field/skills at ele disposal, the potential of how the ele was a couple of months ago would more likely come back and that I am completely against. These abilities you mentioned were nerfed because they were overused and outbalanced the other classes during that time.

He says he’s got -60% condi duration so I assume he’s running -40 from food and -20 from hoelbrak runes so only vit comes from food. He’s also got 30 arcane which accounts for even more stats that all could’ve been min-maxed into power.

Also Dec 10th is coming soon so it’s a bit early (too late?) to call it your final stat combination Unless of course you’re going to run the exact same build since it won’t have changed much.

Want to give a shout out to the magguma thief and ele I kept encountering on 1v2 in bg bl with my asura ele. Ya both had great sync. Great fun challenge I had on our various fights.

If you played a thief extensively before and played a ele then you would know that thieves are pretty easy to beat on most occasions. I think the fight is even with equal skill except in the case of a condition X/X/30/X/30 with perplexity. Those are a pain in the but because they can steal 2 boons every 21 1/2 secs. With interrupts and don’t really have to get in harms way of your aoe to put damage on you all while being pretty tanky. My P/D setup on thief has 17.5k hp and 2.9k armor.

If we are talking typical D/D then there is good burst there just get ready to go to air for shocking aura, earth, for protection, water for frost aura. When you hit about 50% they will heartseeker you probably dodge toward them not away.

D/P doesn’t have the burst of D/D but has really good sustain pressure and can stick on you like glue also with good blind access. The major damage comes from backstab. D/P thieves are like this Backstab, 1 maybe 2 auto attacks dodge roll away black powder, heartseeker, repeat. That is usually how it goes with D/P thieves.

Keep your ring of fire down kite through there if they try to get away let them in most cases. They usually wont disengage until after shadow refuge is blown most thieves save that for last and usually don’t re-engage after they used it(most).

Really best way to see how thieves work is to play one or duel someone that has one but thieves should not be much of a problem once you become familiar with them.

Pretty much this! The first thing you should do when you think about a suggestion is ask about if and how players would abuse it, because they will if they can. Then the next thing is if they can abuse it would it be overpowered.

While yes he did do this, it’s only because our profession as a whole is broken to begin with.

I think the threshhold should be brought down to 80-85% though.

John did stated on one of his posts from that Dec 10th patch thread that the threshold will probably be 85% instead of 90%. Let’s hope that possibility comes to reality. Either way this trait is awesome for my burst ele.

My ele won’t be bursting as much if many players start using that one instead of bloodlust.. specially if it turns out to be 10 points per kill.

Two weeks of Blackgate, and all I have to show for it is videos of BG running away consistently.

But, I’m glad Magumma is back! You guys have the best roamers to fight, the T1 guys are just downright awful sometimes.

Grouping a whole server’s skill based on your few experiences is foolish. Besides, not being able to finish off an enemy in a roam scrap is partially your own fault (unless GS warrior).

I don’t judge all of SoS’s skill for losing this 2 v 7 against me and 1 RIOT member. Just an hour or so later, I fought a really skilled SoS ele for about 7 minutes that ended in a stalemate.

That ele probably is Serane from Agg. The best d/d ele I have ever encountered so far on 1v1. Then again, If he was that ele he should have defeated you, unless you are extremely bunker or a mesmer/thief that constantly steaths to recover.

My personal favorite and I have it on 2 different set of armors is divinity. Now for the upcoming 10th patch I am starting to love rune of the traveler as much or possibly even more than divinity for my ele.

I almost always go for the most threatening class first.

I don’t know why you wouldn’t.

Unless the most threatening class is a bunker-type class, then I go for the lower armored people behind it.

If there’s a group of people, I’ll usually go straight for the engineer, then thief when they get bold enough to attack. Necro is also up there, but so is Warrior.

From my approach I usually go for the squishiest or less skilled one first. In your scenario I would first target the easy mode thief simply because he can shadow refuge any other member you down and res them and because I find thieves to be a lot easier to defeat than engineers. However, if necro is involved in this group fight then he becomes first target regardless of what other enemy profession is involved.

Wvw roaming is pvp… If you meant spvp well that gets completely boring after a while. The same case comes from wvw zerging. Solo/small group roaming is the most fun aspect of pvp in this game imo.

I think its funny how Mag roamers have complained about plex runes, condi, tanky builds, zergs, ads to fights, etc. They have no clue what T-1 roamers have had to fight in a JQ/SoR/BG match-up for weeks on end. Just by the rage I see from the posts, I think if they ever “roamed” in a T-1 match-up, it would make them have an aneurysm.

Like it or not, it is the Meta, no sense in complaining about it, just adapt or go duel for the week until the match-up is over.

I don’t really consider oPP a roaming guild. There are some good players in it, but most of the guild just sits on the island with as many people as they can and adds on fights.

Not really my battle as I’m not in oPP, but this seemed relevant.

It’s fine Cyy, Mag really doesn’t ‘roam’ any different to how we ‘roam’. They might think they do things differently but the number game is the same from both sides.

We have a bunch that roam solo and we have a bunch that run in small groups, either way… sometimes you fight 1 and sometimes you fight 10. So be it… Just deal with it.

The only 2 differences I personally see between Blackgate and Mags roamers are that they like to post for each kill that they get (which is luckily not all that much) and the other difference is that we’re a bit tankier due to us playing with zergs more.

Other then that.. nothing new, nothing different. It’s been fun to see more roamers, that’s for sure

I agree. It is a lot more fun with this many roamers from maguuma. I’m looking forward for more encounters against them.
