You can’t kill any good thief If you don’t have High burst period. The broken perm steath mechanic can only be counter if and only if you burst the thief down before he resteath or if you interrupt him with daze right before he is about to hide. I also agree on a point made here that most WvW thieves are horrible or simply opportunistic killers that any average Ele player regardless what wep set or build he is using can easily defeat these thieves.

1. answer: I get my opponents while they are moving forward or straffing with this combo, don’t need them to stand still. During this time frame of 1-2 secs you opponent take a lot of damage and now with this bug you too sometimes.

It’s not retaliation even when it happens on pve against a nest where there’s not a single mob…. I understand very few execute this combo but if you keep trying it on a mob or opponent in wvw it will happen.

There is no logic why a HEAVY armor profession should be as or even more agile than a light armor type. It is simply a poor design on this game.

Pandas are coming over to gw2

Anet has perfectly stated numerous times here on the forum that they are aware of this issue but months have passed without a fix.

It is the most balanced mmorpg I have played so far with the only exception of the stealth broken mechanic that both thieves and Mesmers tend to abuse. Not even aion had it this bad with steath..

Maybe it’s better for fighting, but I have trouble believing S/F is better for overall solo roaming considering the extreme lack of mobility outside of FGS.

I find LF and fgs are all I need to get away and/or close-in on opponents. Along with my permanent 25% speed from my runes I don’t even need swiftness (with my current build I don’t have any way to obtain it either).

It doesn’t always happen but when it does it is a double edge combo where about half of its damage is reflected back to you instead of your opponent.

Has anyone else notice when you execute lightning flash with fgs skil 4 to create that small area of concentrated damage towards your opponent…you will get hit with some of its damage? This is in wvw against other players. It has happened to me for the past 3 days. I have no conditions on me, my enemy doesn’t have retaliation yet my heath goes down as quick as my opponent when i execute this combo. It doesn’t always happen so it gets me by surprise when it does.

Actually even the “average” player of another class trying their hand at Ele will realize they are constantly getting stomped by almost every other class/build out there.
The only case where the Ele is handed an easy win is 0/0/30/20/20 (diamond skin) D/D Ele going up against a full-condi Necro (carrion).
Other than that specific situation, it’s all hard work and out-playing your opponent.

That person might consider himself average while playing other professions but he is still horrible with the Ele if he is getting defeated that many times on 1v1 scenarios against all the other professions. The only time it is hard work is if you face a player that rarely lose 1v1. That’s when outplaying your opponent takes place.

Updraft-DT doesnt make much sense, the aftercast of updraft is too long to get off DT fast enough, it can be simply dodged. Gale-DT works tho.

I think about a human Ele but I just love my asura and my armor and that’s why I’m always gonna stick with it

I had the same concern so I bought one of those items that let you increase the size of your character from the tp. Now my asura is at max hight and the weapon sets are clearly visible without having me to zoom in.

I rolled an Ele thinking I would feel right at home with a supposedly “mage” class but it turned out to be something else entirely. Elementalist is nothing like Mage/Sorcerer professions in any other MMO.

Take WoW Mage for example….that class revolves around long-range nukes, lots of kiting abilities, CC, damage absorption (shields) to compensate for low health and complete lack of healing. Through-and-through a pure damage class.

Meanwhile Ele plays like a mage with zero kiting/CC potential, no absorption, just high damage through area-placed abilities and everything separated by eternally-long cooldowns that don’t make any sense.
You are given lots of group support abilities, healing and rely on boons. ArenaNet themselves have said that Ele is a jack-of-all-trades class, and by that definition it’s nothing like a Mage/Sorcerer, it’s just “support”.

Engineer or Mesmer is what I would recommend for fans of the Mage class.

By the sound of “rely on boons” you make me guess you play the old fashioned d/d weapon set/build. I don’t play d/d anymore so for me there are plenty of kiting (kite warriors all day to the point they get so mad after) cc, vulnerability to damage, long and close range burst, instant and charge spell casts.. Of course it isn’t as overpowered as the typical mage type from other mmorpg like the sorcerer from Aion but it does have all the typical mechanic.

They are still there on other bl…… The serious problem in wvw right now is CONSTANT STEALTH BROKEN MECHANIC!

I think highly skilled thieves are almost impossible to counter. One took 5 of us out in approximately a minute in SM today. We all knew the thief was there but had no answer – one or two hits & you were down then the thief vanished before anyone could try & counter. Should their stealth skills be nerfed? I don’t know. Are they any worse than the op hammer wielding opponents or any other perceived op classes?

There is no such thing as player skills when playing as thief. It is that easy to play it “effectively”.

0 value given to boon duration stat since beta. Wait I take that back, I gave it some value when I used to waste a lot of points in the arcana tree back in the early stage of. Ele.

I solo roam most of the time and always find plenty of 1v1 and 1v2 scenarios. My Ele can easily get away from Zerg if it gets gank.

If you are running a build that dies to this, then it also dies to burst thief and is therefore not a viable build (unless you know other team has no reach).

All ele builds will die to a good burst thief player then that means there is no viable build? The only difference some builds will give you that extra second or two to react and recover while a skillful thief can easily repeat his burst on 1v1 with the broken constant stealth mechanic if you don’t burst him down first. Seriously, there are a lot of builds that are “viable” for each profession in wvw roaming as long as the player is good. Finally a good mesmer will never die within 1 sec time window on 1v1 unless he just finished a hard battle and has all his utilities on cd or got completely ambushed from his blind spot by a bursty player.

I agree. The constant steath is the most broken mechanic in wvw. Both mesmers and thieves abuse it and definitely needs a fix.

Yea no doubt. Just make sure you change it to your server for the current bosses event that are active within your world. YOu will find some of the ones that are very fast only give like 3-5 ores, those with average time 15+. Dragons and temples are usually 30+ per each one.

You’re right, I meant to say who isn’t super active. But you knew that, and addressed it with your friend who plays super infrequently.

The thread title is “Best Possible Stats”, and you would not have the max possible stats with exotic armor.
I personally do not have any ascended armor currently, since it costs hundreds of gold for a hardly noticeable stat increase, but that means that I do not have the best possible stats, strictly speaking.

This is a good point, so thanks. I agree. I am just a little more practical money wise, so I didn’t think of it that way. I automatically thought “Best stats for the least amount of money spent.” But you’re right.

Wow kudos to you. I liked how you handled that statement. I don’t play d/d anymore but I can give you a reference to this thread that list an entertaining video and build from a good d/d ele. if your purpose is for roaming that would be thief because they abuse the constant steath broken mechanic that exist on this game. For zerg you can’t go wrong with warriors because they have tons of armor/hp and best of all healing power now.

Now if you don’t want to play easy mode by choosing thief or warrior then play ele and put your wvw player skills to the test. If you are skillful you will do very well with this profession otherwise you will perform poorly.

True damage numbers are nowhere near as impressive as in other builds, but the porpose of this build is that a dead dps is a no dps. Most ele players I’ve seen with more offensive builds die way too fast so I tried to do a casual friendly strong build…for more advanced players I’d go with more offensive builds like yours

I think It goes more towards individual playstyle. I have alway played bursty non glass cannon type on every mmorpg as a Mage profession. Wielding dagger and being on close combat most of the time still doesn’t feel right in my book as a caster light armor class…..that’s probably why I got away from the d/d bunker spec in general.

S/d obviously does more damage but s/f is not bad at all. For pve if you are a good ele you would use all weapon sets depending on the type of instance and environment you are playing to help your team more.

Excellent video krazyFlyingChicken. It was very educational and skillful of your part to play the staff ele so well. I really liked you initiative on trying something new like the fire axe for your playstyle. Honestly, that’s how I believe great players are born by taking the initiative on trying something new or less used by the masses and making it work great. Finally, I laughed so hard at the part where you get to say “ligenring elements which is great…….mmmm….. whatever.. meh could do without”.

The focus is a defensive offhand weapon set. I don’t agree any of it skills need more damage. However, I do agree that fire 4 and 5 skill are weak and for me it just doesn’t belong. As for the rest of the focus skills I truly like them.

Expect those players that don’t take initiative to ask you for videos. It looks great for surviving more but the damage output must be extremely low.

Without having focus skills to back up my burst potential as I do with s/d.. I felt i had to increase my power more while reducing hp and armor number.

With 25 stacks from bloodlust and the wvw buffs and without a single might buff your attack reaches over 3700. Modify it to your liking if you feel that’s a bit excessive. I solo/group roam and run with the zerg with this build.. I only change 1 or 2 utilities depending on the setting.

Boring for me is sacrificing fun playstyles because of min/maxing for a tiny edge.

The edge can be way above “tiny” if all the members in the group are into max dps standard. Gw2 pve is very easy where any build is viable. Just run whatever build and weapon set you enjoy and as long you are not affecting the whole group with constantly getting downed then you are good, unless……you run into a group that requires all zerk type of players or any other specific criteria.

Where do these few people come up with this made up “most Ele" statistic…. Just to clear it out you, your friends and even the few that actually post in the forums are not most eles. DS isn’t as strong as I thought it would be for my bursty non glass cannon ele. However, I can definitely see it coming very helpful towards those good players that have different ways to heal and with decent armor type. Personally, necros are no longer even a challenge when I roam with focus offhand.

I was seriously surprised to see you perform that well with that low armor number against multiple targets focusing fire on you even if they were very noobish players. That’s how skillful players do it! Like Ozii I also loved the split between you and your partner on the video.

I looked at the video again its like perma protection party. I only see a few moments where there is no protection up between him and the guardian very effective combo.

Ah nice observation. I didn’t pay attention to that. That would surely help. I like the very good sync both of them had except for the last minute or so of the video. Xun went chasing someone to down him while leaving his partner behind tanking 3-4 enemies by himself. I found that part funny.
