People are being melodramatic here.
Let’s not forget that it’s difficult, if not impossible, to truly measure the value of any single change/addition without looking at the larger picture. Until we have more information (especially regarding changes to other professions, not just our own), speculating on the future state of eles is pointless.
I could see this being particularly useful in WvW (or GvG, if you’re into that), but reserve judgment until we know more.
True but I find it fun to speculate on future outcomes when something new is announced. I also see this being particularly useful one wvw Zerg and gvg. Specially for those that already enjoy the support of providing water fields and blasting them for healing.
I finally finished watching all the videos after viewing like 2-3 per day. I enjoyed all of them and more eager to lvl up my engi and get him to wvw. Thank you for the motivation!
I was just tired of people saying only L2P or taking pot shots at posters without saying anything constructive. Glad you appreciated it.
He did not appreciate it. He is making fun of it.

Hi there i have played d/d ele for over 500 hours and am just starting to get a tad bored with the same ol’ combos and wanted something new. I HATE being glass cannon however i’d like to put out a nice amount of damage, i usually roam ina group of 2-7 taking on groups twice our size, so the key things for me are mobility and damage and survivability, any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks alot happy roaming
If you want something new, try s/f or s/f related burst builds. It is a different experience and challenge than d/d playstyle. Just keep in mind it is not as forgiving as d/d arcane builds. What tomo posted is a decent build, though for my liking i prefer a bit more of power and crit damage to burst harder.
In other words, if another class will always do a job better then the Elementalist, why would one ever be used?
Because they can do multiple jobs at the same time.
Lol you wish, you are the “jack of none”
Only some players are the “jack of none” not the profession.
Do you even spvp? Are you serious?
Hi, Staff Ele here, I’ve hit (and held for a couple of weeks) top 200 soloq with a hybrid build that could do a decent amount of everything. Consistently ranked within the top 1k, currently 525 or something (though right now I’m messing around with Zerker Staff and really enjoying wreaking havoc).
Come back and tell me that Ele is jack of none once you get up to, say, #600 in either leaderboard playing any build with any class. If you can’t do it with anything else, it’s unsurprising that you can’t succeed with Ele, and this is a l2p issue on your part rather than a problem with the Ele as a profession.
(Woo, I’m being an elitist kitten by spouting out my meaningless ranks! And feeding trolls who can’t even play well! Go me!)
That’s why all the high ranked teams play one….. oops, guess not, show me the build and a video would love to see all that action and effectiveness in game
There are high ranked team with eles in their group. Why would he bother on showing you a build and video when your experience with the ele is negative in the first place. Ultimately, it won’t help you become a better player.
In other words, if another class will always do a job better then the Elementalist, why would one ever be used?

I’m sorry, but your rotations are way off, and the first battle made me not want to watch anymore of the video. You are not procing might stacks, and weren’t using your projectile reflects at the right times. The guardian also bowed at one point to call the fight, to which you chased him until he was downed, staked, then jumped away like a proud princess.
Spamming all skills just because they’re up is not how you play this class. kthxbye
The elementalist can be played in various ways and still be successful. This profession is very versatile within that aspect. The method you mentioned is just one in many.
Dude, can I tell you
I’ve only been playing this game for 3 months, and finally I decided to make Engi my main thanks to you and your videos.
Your roaming videos are by far the best and most enjoyable I’ve seen. I just wish I had half of your skill
He influenced me too from a single video he posted on a thread I made within wvw. A highly skillful player.
My latest funny moments:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Iw1W40rlH6c
The last 3of them are my favorites (well, not necessarily the 3rd^^)One I can only tell about:
2 trebs attacking our north east bay wall from the snowy plateau at the south west of garrison. Zerg passing by the sentry, I retreat into the ruins, cap the north west one, build the cannon, destroy the trebs with it just as they notice what’kittenting them and come to kill me -> zergs doesn’t get into bay.
I really enjoyed that video. Very funny experiences from start to end. Made me want to lvl my engi and get him to WvW roaming.
The cd is not 15 secs anymore….Forzani, I used that build for s/f a while back. It can be a lot of fun, specially when you have the reduce fire skills cd trait. You can also try taking 5 points away from water and give it to arcane. Roaming with s/f and from 0-10 points in the arcane tree is very effective.

First of all, props for being successful with another build that is not 0/0/0/30/30; specially with d/d. The problem many player have is that they believe a single build/weapon set can defeat all the others. That does not exist in guild wars 2. There will always be at least one build and /or profession that counter yours. As far as recommendation goes if you want to defeat engies with the same build you have, try focus off hand and they will become the easiest opponent for you but then you will have another Achilles.
Dragon tooth would be in the perfect spot if it was 1 sec less to hit. Regardless both of these skills are in good place. Gotta love S/F weapon set!
It is that healing signet that is very strong. Everyone knows that. I have never encountered a condition based warrior that I can’t defeat with my burst non glass cannon ele within wvw..
Don’t miss it at all. I do miss the mage profession type doing massive damage with great amount of cc yet very vulnerable to damage and the warrior that does massive damage if it catches his prey in close combat but are not more agile than light armor professions.
D/d ele has become so boring to watch. Nothing against you spoon. Good initial music.
No problem, I understand. Thanks for your feedback.
I’m sorry, I should have added “for me” at the end of the first sentence. I’m sure many others will enjoy it and I hear you are great too as an Ele. I believe I met you once, you sent me a party invite and said “it is you Heidia”. Or something like that. Appearantly you recognized me by a forum picture. Keep being awesome!
Now that’s real skill! I haven’t enjoy a dueling video this much over a year. When i tried to duel with staff I was so mediocre but once again you prove if you dedicate enough time to polish your skills even while wielding a staff you can be awesome with the ele. I’m getting myself to roam with staff again lol. I can only imagine how much more powerful you could be if that meteor shower can be casted while running. Easy the best staff player!!!
Agreed. Im gonna practice everyday now
Ya the good old saying still holds true. Practice makes perfect.

Weapon swap is rather pointless, we have such a limited access to them. Once they add pistols and Hammers, then i would be interested in weapon swap. I am happy with D/D, it just needs a few tweaks here and there to bring it up to the standard of certain other classes.
I would LOVE D/D to get Magnetic Aura though. I was thinking that it could be done by changing Arcane Shield to Arcane Aura – grants a 5 second aura based on your attunement on a 45 second cool down.
It wasn’t that Ele were OP really, it was at the time most other classes weren’t strong enough to really counter it. You could put the old Bunker D/D back in the current Meta and it wouldn’t be as strong now due to all the buffs other classes have gotten and the fact that people know exactly how to play against ele now.
Thank you, you just made me win $50. When the other classes weren’t strong enough to counter a profession build what would you call it……… OVERPOWERED!!
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
Funny how you bash folks for being skeptical and go right in the complete opposite direction saying ele might become op. Last time I checked, none of us had the patch notes… and it’s probably more realistic to be skeptical given the track record. I’ll believe ele is op when I see it. An 8% reduction in healing signet hps and evade on burning speed don’t exactly sound like game changers to me. Of course setting my expectations low means more potential for me to be pleasantly surprised.
I really, really hope that the new awesome thing eles are supposedly getting is weapon swap though. That would open up this entire class so, so much… it’s getting extremely stale as it is. I am convinced lack of weapon combinations is a huge reason eles have stagnated in the meta… everyone knows how to deal with the few types of eles there are, and it’s nearly impossible to adapt to new metas.
How is that going the opposite direction?? please develop your reading comprehension more. If the profession these players always complained about being weak, underpowered, jack of all trades master of none …….is getting buffed to the point it MIGHT become op like it used to be then they should stop complaining. I bet someone will post “the ele was never op” blah blah blah…
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
thief is pretty good too for skilled players too
There is no such thing as skilled when playing a thief.
Who understand you guys. Most of you have posted comments/threads to buff this and that for the ele and now that the ele might become an easy op mode profession again there are still complaints? The ele forum is so disappointing.
Ranger hands down is currently the most crappy profession in WvW..
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
Wow that was quite the experience you had. What an intense brawl. I love those type of roaming scenarios too. I accidentally transferred to sor. It actually became a great thing. I got to experience tier 2 and 3 and possibly tier 4 soon too. It is a complete different environment and type of players going against these servers that so far I am enjoying as well. However, I’m BG since beta so definitely will be back but not sure when.
It never happened to me…………… because i don’t build!
Don’t give up. Keep making noise!
There are so many funny and unique experiences posted here. Keep them coming., I’m reading each one.. They inspire to solo/small group roam more for the immense fun it is obtained through WvW.

MAKE MORE NOISE!
Mbelch is not bursty. He just deals consistent good dps with dagger. It can be debated to be better than being bursty with cds in between burst. Both damage dealer type have its advantages and disadvantages against other professions and builds. Never expect a single build to be able to defeat all the builds/professions in the game. That doesn’t exist in guild wars2.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
The way this game is heading with the reduction of crit damage, bunker and condition builds will be more “meta”. Weird because many other mmorpg prefer damage over boring defense specially as a mage type. You don’t need rtl to get out of situations. All you need are fgs, swiftness (or traveler rune 6 effect) and lightning flash. That’s all the mobility i personally need with my s/f burst ele while roaming. Those that state that s/f is not good for roaming are just players that are good with only dagger/dagger and suck with the other weapon sets within pvp.
Explain or show video link to your most funniest experience as a solo or small group roamer. I’ll start by stating mine that just took place a few minutes ago. While I was solo roaming i noticed a member from my server downed but not out near a high cliff. Close to him are 3 thieves doing /laugh emote without finishing him. I go in without fear to try to save this guy from their left side. My ele is a burst non-glassy s/f wep type so i figured if I can get at least one of the thief downed and killed by my devastating fiery greatsword combo then there will be 2v2 and a sure win for us. Needless to say my fiere greatsword skill 4 + lightning flash fails to execute to a single spot due to an unexpected lag. Instead it does the fire trail hitting all 3 thieves that were on a straight line. My guess is none of them saw me coming and when they got hit hard out of nowhere they used withdraw healing skill… making them roll back and fall off the high cliff. All 3 thieves died in an instant and my buddy rallied lol. I wish i had recorded it.
LightningFlash is ok the way it is. The only 2 things that can actually make it a lot better is either increasing its range to 1200 or renewing the stun breaker effect again. This is my favorite utility since beta day one.
The Ele excels in all wvw scenarios solo roam, small goup, dueling, guild vs guild, zerg you name it. A lot depends on how well you do with the build you copied, created or improved on. Only when it comes down to going against good players then other variables take place. It takes a lot of time playing with the ele to become even decent. My advise as always is to start with a very defensive build and gear like the popular build 0/10/0/30/30 and with time experiment with more offensive builds, weapon sets and gears. Don’t get stuck with just one build.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
Wow those dance emotes are so EPIC!
Has Anet announced the acquisition of ascended gears through dungeon/wvw tokens or drop from regular mobs like exotic?
A Machismo thread
Condition ele is a lot of fun. I have my own ascended set for condition builds now too and i love it. I still see burst as more enjoyable but that is very subjective.
Don’t underestimate the best NA server!
LOL this is hilarious. I tried it with my mes for the fun of it.
The profession becomes good when the player does. This is no longer an easy mode profession like it used to be. Many will fail and give up. Don’t be part of that group and keep improving. Don’t get stuck in one build or weapon set. Master a good amount of different builds, playstyle and weapon sets.

Learn from self experience or from guides created by experienced successful Ele players. When you ask these sort of questions on the forum without you giving yourself time to search, you can expect many negative and positive comments that will confuse you. There are some very good guides for pve right above this sub foru. Try those first.
A great amount of good players don’t bother to check on their opponent buff bar specially in team battles. It is not necessary for most encounters. On 1v1 duels or going against someone as equal/greater skilled then you put more effort to defeat. The skill animations across all professions skills (very few from necros…) is where the attention goes.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
Hammer warriors are the easiest to beat if you are using a range weapon. An ele player that dies by a thief that spams heartseeker on 1v1 will pretty much get defeated by anything. Based on his negative gameplay and experience, he will consider the profession as trash and try to influence others. I’m tired of these type of amateur players.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
Very nice to see something new. I’m the same way on not liking meta builds. It shows lack of creativity and skills to play with a build that the majority uses such as the 0/0/0/30/30 variant builds for the ele. Condition build ele is a lot of fun to play too. I prefer direct burst damage but when I experimented with 3 different condition builds it was a lot of fun to stack those confusions, immobilize and seeing my burning/bleed do very nice DOT.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
There are just so many easy kills in tier 2 and tier 3 while roaming on weekends. I guess the above average players roam more during the weekdays. Dueling has become extremely boring for me too. When you do it in excess for a long amount of time eventually it becomes a drag.
(edited by LightningBlaze.4913)
kite and burst is all you need.
FGS ftw! no contest.
Since he mentions Asura, it is safe to assume he/she meant for appearance.
It always being like that since beta.
