What's with the new loot chests?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lord Aargadon.4135

I willing to bet its the drops that are bugged, not the chest appearing, pretty much proving that something is wrong with either DR or loot tables, it could be items registering as incorrect quality or not looting due to bugs. In other words, everytime you see a steel or wooden chest, its not that the chest with porous bones and fur scraps shouldn’t be there, I think its that something that should be isn’t there.

Don’t need to tell you how that ended.

…Because we’ll find out in a few years when we see it for ourselves?

Nah, we ended up in Orr year 1071AE, found some scrolls, blew up Arah and a Charr invasion. Unfortunately, they didn’t have waypoints back then and everyone was kinda dead, so we had to wait until re-release for someone to res our corpses.

We’re just testing your secret jumping puzzles. Raine was anticipating Gwens ghost to be on top, I was waiting for Proffessor Yakkington and Nicholas to pop up asking for 10 porous bones(ermagush is that a vampiric dragon sword in taht bag Nick?)
and I was hoping that after we jumped off, hit 80 mph while simutaneously being hit by lightning, we would end up in restored Orr. Don’t need to tell you how that ended.

I know these aren’t intended, but they definitely are jumping challenges.

1st was a pain to get too, involves a lot of jump shotting up and down cliff edges that meant death if you missed or overshot, and a tiny hole you have to jump through(ironically, I the charr made it through on the second try, but my human bud couldn’t do it to save a baby quaggan.)

2nd (3rd picture) wasn’t bad only two jumps were commonly fatal for about 6 deaths total. Took forever though, one jump you have to land on an invisible lip of an edge. But of course, it was definitely worth it. This is on top of Cathedral of Zephyrs I believe.

Both of these are in Malchors Leap and require jump shot(an engineer) or one of its bundle counter-parts from karma vendors.

Transform Skills

Lord Aargadon.4135

Maining an engineer and thief only, Ive only expeirenced 4 of the transforms, whirlpool I believe is actually pretty good with the never-ending pull and decent dmg per pulse, I wish I could use it on land. Daggerstorm I think is a transform, is decent in some circumstances. The other 2 might be decent if they had a CD of say… maybe 40s lol?

Anyways, a simple perma boon or skill added would fix a lot of them, tornado for example, is very slow and melee, permanent swiftness or a dash skill could make it so much better when it comes to hunting down ranged. Rampage, on the other hand, is much better off than tornado, but would greatly benefit from a heal skill or quickness to compensate for its slow attacks and loss of other skills. Btw, Im mainly in WvW, so I do realize that usefulness differ greatly between pve and pvp, and should probably be split or buffed accordingly.

Personally, I dont believe they are as terrible as what I hear about them, they are just supa situational and most of the time not worth the CD. Give them a heal, one perma boon and/or a skill to compensate for each ones weakness.

Engineers: Only for Elite players?

in Engineer

Lord Aargadon.4135

Flamethrower cone is one, I got pretty discouraged by it initially, but my stubborness overcame it. Once upon a time as a new player I had Elixer X, which used to be very bugged, around 40% chance of failure back then and still rarely fails, which is very frustrating, its an elite that doesn’t even work, you anticipate something amazing to happen. The rifle and pistol skills tend to fail at melee range until you’ve mastered managing the camera, rifle blunderbuss used to fail occaisonally. Thats all I can think of at the moment.

Engineers: Only for Elite players?

in Engineer

Posted by: Lord Aargadon.4135

Lord Aargadon.4135

Another thing, its not that the profession requires the ‘elite’ touch to use superbly, its just that a few bugs and certain aspects really discourage new players to the profession. If you’ve rolled a warrior first then go here, you are going to be discouraged by the lack of (easily obtained)heavy melee pressure and range. There is no killshot, the closest thing to it is static discharge zerker. The engi has no backstab, no stealth, no illusions, no deathshroud, no daggerstorm, and no heavy armor. The things that discourage most? We have stunbreakers that stun self, a flamethrower you are probably going to miss half your shots with the first few minutes you discover, superheavy GT kit that you will only appreciate if you were first a mark necro, traits that completely make or break your build, a shotgun in the disguise of a rifle, and only two mainhand weapons both ranged. A lot of our bad rep comes from this and the fact that in dungeons and the sorts, many of us are still learning and we are just an akward profession. Were not bad, we don’t require the elite touch, we’re just different.

Is that fair?), suggested Rust(does it have stackcap or flat rate?), Condition removal, Confusion(does it hurt player to repair?), Weakness(should it prolong upgrades?), immobilize(should it prevent repair?) I thought when DR triggers currently the player just gets less loot, rather than trash items?

You do still get loot, but at a significantly lower rate, MF gear turns to 0%, Im not sure if crafting mats rate is adjusted though.

Although Im not sure how this solves much, essentially all this does is make the bot loose out on junk and make it go to the Mforge to get rid of bound status. The only players it helps directly are those that stay in the exact same area to farm for crafting mats purely, but currently its better to farm your crafts hit DR then go farm gold to buy mats elsewhere.

Haha, well when you say it like that, it just sounds silly. Last time I checked humanoids are humanoids, very similar body structure and such n’ such. Dwarves were well known for architecture, weapons, age, and of course, their fondness of ale. Norn were well known for being independant, stubborn, also fond of alcohol, and the crazy amount of strength that the Great Spirits gave individuals from time to time.

Tengu are pretty much a mystery. Similar to the dwarves and Order of Secrets, they possess knoledge of the dragons, but I can’t think of anything else outstanding that hasn’t already been mentioned.

The Tengu

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lord Aargadon.4135

Lord Aargadon.4135

The dwarves all got stoned so I doubt they’ll be playable. Last time I checked all but a one of the known dwarves(allied) are still flesh, any survivors are either stone dwarves or different clans hiding out who knows where. So quick summary of the dwarves, Stone Summit were almost completely wiped out, one known fleshy dwarf, most stone forever fighting the destroyers(much like the ghost of Ascalon hating the Charr), and with the tiny possiblity of hidden clans for extensions or whatever.

Tengu. Sure whatever, they might be added, I heard it was they just needed the game to ship so they cut out the Tengu, they already had the major races in. Rubbish? Well sure, but charr look horrendus in a majority of the armor, their unique body features all clip(fangs, tail, ears, and horns), norns are just humans scaled up in size, a majority of the female norn, human, and sylvari bodies designs are complete barbie doll shapes, all boobs and butt, their hands are sooooo tiny, and Asura are so small that we get occaisonal complaints of their size giving an inherent advantage over other races. Maybe the Tengu story was even more terrible than the human, norn, and sylvari. Maybe they just ran out of time and money….

Should they be? I’d say yes, maybe, they have a lot of potential for the future. Maybe we will take back their land in Cantha? Ive heard people say each dragon is anti-x race, maybe one of them oppose the Tengu. I could go on, but Im done ranting for today….

About that topic that is. Don’t bring anything to the table? Look at the norn, what did they bring? Beer and whiskey, and their drunken bodies too. Basically all they do is go kamikaze/hey lets go be drunken heros and end up killing our friends as we get possessed. As I already stated, they have potential for being one of the dragons main oppenents and the whole Cantha speculation.

For story, your gear needs to be close to your max level. That beside, depends on what you’re doing. Pve, you should probably go for bombs or flamethrower for damage and blinding. For weapons, rifle is more damaging and has plenty of control, pistol pretty pathetic unless you trait for it, but the utility is nice. Mob farming at high lvls, the easy/lazy way to go is speccing for grenadier(this alone pretty much outclasses every form of dmg engi does) and do whatever with the rest of your traits, works decent enough in dungeons. WvW grenades are fine and dandy for zerg and wall control, nothing else. Spvp, the grenadekit itself is terrible, hits slow yadda yadda.

WvW is pie when you have a group going, no effort really required, while fractals is bugged and a pain for those who don’t do dungeons, you need to set up a group, retrait to be effective for some, and deal with disconnects and player kicking.

Overcharge, net shot, net turret(imob/stun)+ hidden net, supply crate(stun+1s imob from turret, freeze grenade. 100nades requires you to be in 800u to jump shot, you have to hit right on them, supply crates elite and easy dodge, net shot X2 you can strafe out of at 800u+ or easy dodge, freeze grenade strafe or easy dodge and has a nasty habit of hitting ceilings and ledges at great elevation diff, net turret 600 range but has a bonus occaisonal imobi and 2or4s stun(assuming it doesnt get hit), and of course 100nades jumpshot, easy dodge if they stunbreak right as you jump shot. All of this is pretty difficult to dodge in close quarters though. I dont deem it OP because of how easily something can get screwwed up timing wise or if you get stunned/pushed its easy for them to keep range. Just don’t use this on warrs/engis when they reflect shield….

3 built in cc if you run rifle, 2 pistol, 4-5 depending on utility, and the elite, but Im not counting that.

But if you make the unfortunate choice of trying to melee a 100nades, no cc needed :D

What race is the coolest engineer?

in Engineer

Posted by: Lord Aargadon.4135

Lord Aargadon.4135

I don’t think so. The alchemie comes from the engineers not being able to use magic and therefore having to search for a replacement. Asura are a highley magical race, I can’t see them having to rely on alchemy like that. It’s more likely that it comes from the Hylek, who are known for their potions and poisons. It was probably the Asura who refiend it later, or maybe the Charr.

…The engineer profession was born from the technoligical advancements of the Charr, who mainly shun magic(and magical elixers). In several interviews long long ago, Jonathan Sharp points out that the engi spread quickly and was ‘adapted and refined’ by all races, directly afterward mentioning elixers, he makes a reference to a certain asuran elixaholic you can find….

I wish I could find the interview that directly states that the elixer part was influenced by the Asura, but saddly I cannot. Just saying, but their unreliable nature (and birght colors!) pretty much screams Asura.
